Frankly, Jeff ought to have sued the cops who kept interrogating him after he asked for a lawyer. After all, they performed a blatant violation of his rights.
There's a reason for that actually. I mean he may just really like cokes but he's going through heroin withdrawal, the sugar in those cokes will be releasing some dopamine and help alleviate a small amount of the discomfort. Science
Thanks a lot for all your vids, they helped me a lot when questionned about a minor incident by the police, even if the laws in my country are different, I could still see the traps that cops would setup for me and happily jumped over it while saying.."Oh there is a trap"....the lady cop who interviewed me clearly wasnt happy that i did not play her game.
I loved the antihero description and using Billy Bobs character as a reference point - brilliant. What’s left out is the fact that heroin is the true epidemic sweeping thru our streets killing our friends and family while the pharmaceutical and drug suppliers get rich. Also, Jeff is a relatively intelligent guy other than his unfortunate drug problem.
simply remaining silent after being read your miranda rights is not enough. you need to verbally acknowledge that you do in fact understand that have the right to remain silent
@@Tohkie You still have the right to remain silent even if you don't verbally agree to it. You generally cannot be arrested simply for failure to respond to questions. If a person is in custody the police must read the Miranda rights if they want to ask questions and use the answers as evidence at trial. By not agreeing you're just making their job a little bit harder, which is probably what Jeff wanted.
@@roizyo Agreed. Cops need you to say you understand otherwise the interrogation could be inadmissible. But there's really nothing to be gained by talking to cops especially if you're guilty, but even if you're not. So say nothing, except I want a lawyer please and thankyou!
@@roizyo he’s already been arrested. He won’t get charged additionally for refusing to answer questions, if that’s what you mean. Dea is right in that “the right to remain silent” is a term of art. It simply means you have the right not to answer questions. Literally not speaking has not foreclosed the possibility of cops continuing to interrogate you. “I do not wish to answer any questions” or “I choose to remain silent” or “I will not answer any questions without a lawyer” or simply “I want a lawyer” is how you clearly and effectively invoke your 5th amendment right against self-incrimination, i.e the right to remain silent
I'm not some ACAB nerd, but I firmly stand by the stance that the second you get into an interrogation room, those people are not your friend even if they're looking into a case that you're innocent but close to, they are your enemies who will lock you up and not give a second thought about it, so any effort made to piss off interrogators no matter who's doing it is always a good thing by me.
I’ve seen interrogation videos where the person was guilty (Chris watts, etc) and the cops are praised for their intelligence and prowess (and I agree). But seeing the same “tricks” and tactics used when they’re trying to nail an innocent person makes you realize how neutral they really are at the end of the day and how you cannot depend on your honest communication to do anything but screw you over. Cops aren’t all bad and they certainly aren’t all good but they don’t care about you they care about how they can work you over once you’ve gotten to this point, your actual guilt seems secondary. It’s nice to see someone like Jeff shake up the power balance by even 1% and throw these guys off their game tbh!
Some of the police officer's body language (the little I notice): 6:24 - Notice his scratching of his chin as he says, "talk to you about what happened last night". He is clearly nervous. He knows they don't have a case. No doubt Jeff (most likely subconsciously) picks this up. 6:44 - After saying, "I think it's in your best interest to (talk to the police)" he starts sitting restless in his chair, moves forth and back, moving things about pointlessly. Again, nervous, unable to find a good resting position, not at ease, not calm.
Jeff without a doubt is an addict but you can tell that he is not responsible what the fuck happens here based on his tone of voice and his natural badass manner
You can be detained and not free to go but not under arrest. But yeah as a general rule that is good. If you are detained don't talk to cops. Everything can and will be used against you. Not to help you

perfect beginning of a movie 1:29 ... "playing good cop?" "usually i'm the prick" "you look like a prick" Narration - "this is Jeff. Jeff is a heroin addict......"
Well the cops say "anything you say can and will be used AGAINST you in a court of law" they don't say "anything you say can and will be used in your favor to help you out" So obviously 🤫🤐
They just keep dragging guy outta the cell and giving him cokes. He drinks the coke, doesnt sign anything, then says "take me back to the cell". Fantastic.
Remember though that each time he gets out the cell for interview he is further into withdrawals. Heroin addiction makes you need lots of sugar (don’t ask me why, it’s a strong craving) the police are using (or hoping) to use his withdrawals to get him to crack.

Cop: "You have the right to remain silent, do you understand?"
Jeff: *Remains Silent*
Cop: And I took that personally
simply remaining silent after being read your miranda rights is not enough. you need to verbally acknowledge that you do in fact understand that have the right to remain silent

ACAB?
Some of the police officer's body language (the little I notice):
6:24 - Notice his scratching of his chin as he says, "talk to you about what happened last night".
Only robbery Jeff pulled off was getting 4 cokes out of those suckers.
