I just recently started making lures and decided to use the alumilight just for the ease of it and I love it. I built a similar box and used the reflective insulation also installed a turner that’s removable for bigger baits that runs down the center of the box. I used 4 60w uv flood lights mounted to one switch for mine but I also have a cardboard box for a lid 😂
Something you could try from the scale modeling world is pledge revive floor wax, sprayed through you airbrush. You can use it in place of your spray can clear coat. Gives a good smooth surface for decals and is like $6 for a big bottle. You also could try decal solution like micro sol/set. If your lure is textured the solution makes the decal basically melt into the texture perfectly. Great videos, count me as a sub.
Harbor Freight sells a dremel tool for around $5. I've been using one for over a year now and it's still going strong. It comes with several bits. I've been using the same bit for over a year and it makes cleaning the hook eyes out very simple. I use to use a xacto knife also and the dremel is the way to go.
UV coatings are affected by florescent lighting, not much, but enough to harden it if left too long exposed. I found this out during my days as a photographer, taking photos under different lighting. You're so right to keep the resin in a dark jar. Also, I have stored some resins in the refrigerator along with my superglue.
Hey man you might like this tip or not. When you go to clean out the eyes for the hooks take a piece of wire that is relatively the same size as the hole. I heat it up with a blowtorch and just push it through there and it cleans it out immediately. Thanks for the cool video
I use something similar for coating 3D printed lures. The term you were searching for is “self leveling”.......I use a lure spinner and I put them on the spinner for a few minutes so it self levels without buildup and drips and the air bubbles have time to pop. Then I turn on the light to cure.
Enhorabuena por tus productos,se ven fantasticos, sabrias decirme si el alumilite-uv y el diamond finish sirven para aplicarlos sobre madera para un acabado brillo? Obtendria buena aderencia y los mismos resultados . Gracias por adelantado
I appreciate the video because I was wondering because I have been using the 2 part epoxy and no matter how you mix it it always has a touch of tackiness to them however washing it with dawn dish soap helps with that
I ended up making a uv cure bucket. I bought 32feet of 90 watt light strips. I wound them on top of each other around The Whole inside of the bucket up to the top. Works good but it gets a little warmer then I like, but it cures in about 5 minutes. Lol
Where did you find 32 ft of. 90 watt UV strip lighting? Or are you saying you got 2 strips at 45w each? . the highest wattage I could find was 60 thanks in advance
I bought three 12x12 inch LED grow lights to be used in the winter inside my shop for my plants. Since they are UV in nature they should work as well, we'll see.
Just started watching. Have never painted but very interested. I see some videos that they have a special booth? If the paints are water base why do they need one? love your work. Thank you
Hi. Great vid. Very informative. A couple of questions. Can you apply multiple coats to create a greater build? Also, I have used uv resin previously and it yellows after a while. Does this product go yellow?
I tried using that spray on clear coat for putting my logo on my baits and it wrinkled/boiled up my paint job, I use createx, I wonder if that’s why? What kind of paint do you spray? Edit: I see you paint in the video now, hmm wonder if I just sprayed too much🤷🏻♂️ also are you in a well ventilated area for that, do you think I’d be fine dipping with this clear coat in my basement? Thanks!
I use Alumi UV and have had 2 lures sitting on my workshop table coated with Alumi UV...after about 3 months of just sitting on the table, I noticed the lures are tacky.
I make my own baits as well and i use both kbs and uv cure the only difference is kbs takes longer to cureand uv is much quivker but if left to long it will yellow (burn) and will look like shit
I’ve started using Diamond clear around $25 for rattle can on Amazon deciding on trying out this method too I really like the Diamond clear finish though I’m putting 2-3 coats down and very pleased with it. Curious if this other method is worth changing too
Thank you for the great videos and sharing your knowledge. I have a question. This product is shipped in as low as a 1/4 pound package. Would that fill a mason jar enough to submerge these baits? Thank you again!
I plan on doing this soon as a hobby.. im curious why you dont brush on the clear opposed to dipping your main lures. To me, it seems like you spend a lot of wasted time and material using the dip method.
The term you were looking for re. the brush strokes in the clear coat is 'self-leveling'. Your lighting takes so long because standard black lights are not the correct light so not as effective. The proper UV light lights emit a wave length of 365NM. Always look for this wave length, they do specify when you search for them. Cheers brother
I am interested in the Alumi-UV, but I am wondering if it is glossy and clear... I've heard that it can be a matt finish and/or yellow... also the resilience of it... right now I use True Coat a two part epoxy, that does really well! The only downfall is TIME.. it takes over night to harden with a turner. I am really interested in the UV but is it the same quality of finish as the True Coat? Also you mentioned special UV lights that Alumilite has for extra fast curing.. I couldn't find them on their site, can you hook me up with a link to those?
I only leave it hanging for a few minutes and then put it into the curing box. On most lures if I’m putting clear coat on the bill, I will rough it up with some fine sand paper so the clear coat will stick 👍
I believe a lot of mirrors do not properly reflect UV light. Not a 100% sure on that but it was questionable so I just went with the foil. I would look into it tho before buying a bunch of mirrors!
Quick question. I started using Aluma-UV and purchased a strip of 365NM uv lights. When I take out the lures they seem perfect and hard like a lure bought from a store. However I find that when I fish with them the UV coating and paint comes off. I dip the lures then put them in the UV box to cure for several hours and they look store bought but they just wont hold up to bass fishing for a couple of hours. Any ideas to help out? Thanks
So what do you think kbs or the UV?? i see both sides of it seem like UV need to put in a little more money not only the product but the lightbox itself but KBS it seem you need to watch out storing it and more of a Hassle?? What do you think would be best money
I'm getting into airbrushing lures and after I've painted them I make sure the paint is fully dried and when I spray the Rust-Oleum clear gloss the paint cracks and starts separating on every lure. Can anyone give me tips on why/what to do about it.
Lmao 🤣 🤣, I was like FLUX and then you said cringing. Cool process. Similar to mine, looking to increase dry time, durability, and ease of process. Self leveling is the term for losing the brush strokes. Cool product for sure. Nice lures dude. I'm going to have to try this product.
I have been using True Coat 2 part epoxy and I must say I am not impressed with the durability of the clear coat. I put one coat on, put it on a rotisserie for 12+ hours , add my logo decal and then put on a second coat. I have a lure that I have taken out and used a half dozen times and probably caught 12 Bass and a couple of Pickerel and it already has a couple of chips that go down thru the paint. How is the odor ? The True Coat does not stink up the house too much where as I‘ve heard the KBS. Is pretty toxic smelling. Like you, I don’t want customers to get lures that chip up easily.

When taking out the eyelets to get proper coverage, simply add a small amount of super glue to the screw before placing the eyelet back into the hole.
