    I'm not a fish-tackle kind of guy, but I always appreciate good instructional when it comes down to airbrushing. And you my dear friend, do a phenomenal job. Most people are always too focused on the fact that they can mess-up but you do an amazing job reinforcing the basics and showing proper handling and application of your paints and surfaces. I learned more from your video than from a 30+min video by some know-it-all UA-camr. Keep up the great work! :D

    That compressor would drive me nuts. 😂
    You need a Silentaire. 😉
    Put the compressor in another room and run an air hose to your workbench. It would be a lot quieter.
    Just a suggestion from someone who used to airbrush T-shirts and had a noisy Craftsman 1-1/2 hp compressor. Made me jump when it came on sometimes. 😂

    I know this is old. But what this "effect" is called in the art, pour art or art resin world is
    " Celling" the paints make little cells like a photo negative. It's a chemical reaction. So whatever is in the opaque and the metallic paint causes this reaction..great look on a lure for sure...
    Fantastic work!

    Your technique is beautiful. I tried it and used transparent brite red, transparent deep red both creatix followed by wet on wet wicked detail black magenta and could not get it to give the acid look. Is it the transparent on the first two colors that killed the effect? What should I be using? Still looked good but no effect.

    Hi Jen, Great videos you put out there. I learn so much watching your videos. I love them. You are quite the pro at this. Wonder if you would ever got to a Fred Hall Show here in California. Anyways, I do have a question. What assortment of eyes do you recommend buying if you are just getting started. There are so many types of colors and sizes to choose from that it can be overwhelming to decide what you need to start out. Jettson Lure Eyes and lurepartsonline seem to be the go to sites. Any suggestions on how many, what type, colors, styles. Thank you for what you do. Keep up the great work.

    Very nice effect, what about air drying under a light bulb or heat lamp to cut down on drying time. I'm assuming the effect is caused by spraying resin paint over water based paint.

      Except that it’s near impossible to clearcoat over silicone, but YES! Very similar. I do use silicone for acrylic fluid paintings, but not on Lures. I'll do my best to update within the next week 🙂 I buy replica blanks from Dinger, Shelts Tackle, Cedar Run, Backwater Outfitters, Alternative Lures Tackle, and a few others. More than not, i repaint brand names these days. I have torn feelings on companies working hard and testing their products only to have others replicate their merch. But, we all have to put food on the table and pay the bills... so it's hard to balance it all without keeping a low overhead cost line

    When you do the final clear coat, how does clear coating the bill affect the swimming action of the lure?

    • @Jekyll424
      @Jekyll424  6 років тому +5

      Think about it like this: a lure is specifically weighted all the way around to swim a certain way. But if you DON'T clearcoat the bill with the rest of the lure, it can throw the balance off. An even coat of epoxy all the way around that covers the entire lure up to and including the bill, helps keep it consistent with how it was balanced when it was originally molded.

    I have the same identical paints and tired this at least 40 times I have had 0 successful attempts. I Even tried with the trans bright red then deep red and wicked detail black magenta over and over and over it flat will not do this. Not even kinda . What’s The secret ? Because something ain’t right. Have you done this recently? My paints are brand new literally just opened them. I can understand a couple times not working but 40?

      Haven't done an acid in a while. When I get the new shop set up I'll go start to finish continuous shot and open new paints on camera. I do have better luck in the summer months but like I said in the video I can't always get the results either. Happy thanksgiving!

      @@Jekyll424 thanks let’s me know if ya don’t mind. I’m thinking they may have changed something in the paint. I’ve tried 7-8 different colors and none have worked.

    This isn't so much a mix of the paints, it's happening because you're laying way too much paint down and then coming in with more super heavy coats, the paint isn't drying underneath and they're reacting.

    You must reduce your detaile paint. Every bottle I have ever baught has been like slime. There is no way it will shoot without reducing it. Like 20 bottles

    Red actually isn’t the best color for deep divers. Red is a lot less visible then most colors at 25-30 ft. I was just making you informed. It’s proven and you can look it up. There are charts that show at what depths colors become less visible.

    • @Jekyll424
      @Jekyll424  6 років тому

      I agree it becomes more of a dark profile color, but when a color / pattern is requested by a client for a certain lure, I will paint it to specification every time 🙂
