      This album has some very chorus driven songs but this song and Death Trap have some of Dimes most uninhibited lead work, and I feel the glam tag was only because of how they dressed at the time, but seriously I wouldn't expect anything different from Texas in the late 80's.

    This album seriously needs to be re released and remastered on CD. This is literally not even part of their glam era. They looked like glammers, but the album is not glam at all. This album needs to be part of their albums that they are most famous for. Although it is not as hard as their later albums, it is harder than their glam era, and it fits more with their popular era.

      Having long hair does not make you ‘glam’! Pantera with Phil as lead was never considered glam. This was metal kicked up a notch. Glam , before it morphed into anything and everything with long hair and from the 80’s, was reserved for bands that wore heavy makeup and lipstick and were played on constant rotation on the radio and mtv and every girl you knew loved them!

    • @bigalexxx

      @@allisterfiend_2112they were literally Glam in their first 3 albums, and Power Metal is closer to the glam sound than it was to any other metal that was around bakc in the late 80s. It certainly wasn't thrash, death, black, or classic metal

    • @allisterfiend_2112
      @allisterfiend_2112 11 місяців тому

      @@bigalexxx The term 'glam' represents a look, not a sound! The earlier Pantera albums before Power Metal sound metal, when Phil joined the band for the Power Metal album you could start to hear them kick things up a notch, The Power Metal album title is literally telling you what type of music it is. We called it power metal back then and if you can not tell the difference between metal and power metal it probably means you were not around at that time living the experience. As with all things, over time, all terms, categories eventually get combined into other terms.

    There is a lot of Megadeth sound / feel from this song. Guitars, drums, & vocals - very similar to old school Megadeth.
    I really like this record because it's all over the place. Traces of their Glam past, some influences of Metallica, Megadeth, 80's metal (glam & non glam), &most importantly you can really start to hear the modern Pantera surfacing - this is especially true in Dimebag's guitar playing.
    What they did between this record & cowboys from hell is amazing.

    The album cover may look kind of glam metal but musically it's more thrash metal.

      Not glam .
      Just see How David vincent was in late 80s with Morbid angel , not different from Phil there ..
      Pretty look alike .

    Pantera is unique because of their musical lineup style. Most metal bands have 2 guitar players. Pantera only had 3 musicians that played instruments and a singer. That was more common with glam metal than pure metal. Makes since because these guys were once glam.

    As much as I favor CFH as the definitive Pantera album, this one is also very fun to listen to. I like Phil much better than Terry for a vocalist. And I really love the powerful thrash elements used in this album.

      Not speedy enough :) The tones are like early Exodus. There's the groove metal thing already very present in this one.

    • @kasebmohamed5468
      @kasebmohamed5468 7 років тому +11

      there is a Peace Sells feel in it yes, but I also agree with 11DNA11, the riff makes me think of Exodus's early kind of speed/thrash (especially And Then There Were None which had a similar riff and rhythm), as for the solo, it is typically Van Halen! and of course, Judas Priest's influence is still obvious, as for every Pantera song before Vulgar Display of Power

      Sounds like a Metallica riff if Dave came back in the 90s for a song and they decided to have Rob halford on vocals. This album is so underated

    when i first discovered pantera's early catalogue of material, i almost couldnt believe it was true. once i heard a guitar solo it was undeniably dimebag playing. you can spot his solos anywhere. at first i was confused at how i should feel while listening to the terry glaze albums, but after a few weeks i came to love it. this was about 10 years ago when audiogalaxy was the best download site ever.

    as much as i hate to say it, Vinnie and Dime's style meshes perfectly with glammetal. And Phil's vocals are actually amazing for that genre too. Cowboys from Hell was the ultimate "I am growing out of hair metal" phase for an entire generation. You can hear "the 80s" on that album, but the thrash elements and double bass usage really makes it feel like a totally different beast. Phil's vocals werent as deep on that album
