I did not remember him being that evil. Given enough time, he probably would've just been killing whole governments & people who annoyed him too much. After the fall of Kira the First, the world return to what it was - rotten, chaos, wars, organized crimes and conflicting again. Light did the world a big favor by killing all of those criminals. People who were saved by Kira's action cheers for him, people who escape the death camp cheers for him, people whose house and family that was doomed by wars/crimes/oppression are cheering for him. And as a realist, i have to say that Light had stopped all the wars and conflicts (that including ethnic cleansing and racial oppression) around the world, as well as reduce the global crimes rate by over 70% in just 6 years. Light had done more for humanity than those who try to catch him had ever done - even Near in the recent spin-off manga have to admitted that he respect Kira.
Western peoples always make arguments but never a solution, Light did ask: "Kill me right here? Is that really the right thing to do?".
And he was right, or at least his ideology is. After the fall of Kira the First, the world return to what it was - rotten, chaos, wars, organized crimes and conflicting again. Light did the world a big favor by killing all of those criminals.
People who were saved by Kira's action cheers for him, people who escape the death camp cheers for him, people whose house and family that was doomed by wars/crimes/oppression are cheering for him. You will never understand the righteous in Kira's Judgement.
