i swear most villains in anime are like this
they have a completely rational and benefitting goal and then they go and do something really irrelevant and insane for no fucking reason so that they have new goals and they can classify as an anime villain

This is too real, what they're doing, what they want to accomplish, and their motives are understandable in every way, and then they add that 1 actually bad thing to it either due to bad writing or just them hoping doing this much good means no one will question that bad.

You know? It'd be fun to see an anime where the MC actually sides with the villain after understanding their plan. Like, leaving the final joke aside, this was a really good plot for an anime. MC was working for the government and was told to put this guy down, then he explains that he's doing it to free the people and obtain the "truth" that the government doesn't want to reveal, so what if instead letting him do his thing, the MC is like "alright imma help you", turning his back against the government and becoming a criminal aswell? Then the governement becomes the "villains" and you can continue having a story.
I have read manga like this but it never really works out. Like the writing I mean. There is also this issue with needing the bad guys to be bad guys. Shades of gray are too often ignored in favor or making the mcs enemies overly evil. Its like the opposite of stories where no one is the bad guy.
I want to see more stories like this! It’s always so boring because you know what’s going to happen with the hero/villain formula.
I think that could be really interesting as long as they don't render the plot up to that point meaningless in the process. Like maybe some of the stuff the villain had been trying to do was excessive so it's good that the main character stopped some of it but they realize things would still be better as a whole if the villain won so they join forces but they're still at odds because the villain is still extreme sometimes.
The main character could be extreme in the other direction though. The villain keeps wanting to kill unnecessarily but the hero keeps wanting to spare people who clearly should be killed. Like if a member of the Justice League went rogue & teamed up with Dr. Doom.
I'm sure that there are anime like that
Superhero comics do this pretty frequently, in a way. Villain says some things. Heros solve the *immediate* issue of them trying to do something thats a bit too extreme for comfort. Next episode or the conclusion they start talking about how the Villain has a point, and try to figure out how to rework their idea for the better. Batman especially does this, with Bruce Wayne contributing where he can when things are pointed out to him.
I like it when the villains is kinda right and you can agree with them makes them more interesting to me so long as it’s not stupid

The League of Villains from MHA actually legit have a point about the injustices of the system. And the heroes actuslly prove them right by accepting those injustices even after discovering them. Like Endevor. Which proves that the course Dabi took was his only option. There's no other way to get justice. But then he has to go and kill innocents too...like. The system is clearly evil, but the ones fighting it are unhinged. There's no middle ground villain character who has morals that force him to work outside the law. Its like the show tricks you into thinking you either side with the corrupt government or the unhinged perpetrator of mass destruction and there is NO middle ground.
That's what made me hate hero academia. The villains had a nice backstory and characteristics, and they had legit points until I realized that all their entire plan to get rid of corruption is just pure anarchy .
Also the part where some of them got "redeemed".

I agree with this video. Anime Villains get it too easy sometimes. Tbh, Age of Consent seems to be going to easy on people. There should also be a species difference of Consent too, and I don't mean animals with humans. I don't think Humans would ever be able to consent to, say, a Meloetta (if it were to exist irl). At all. That being said... Truth Crystals must be weak as all get-out to not be able to do anything about the Age of Consent... the only reason why that is up is because only adults can tell when having offspring is a ready experience, and one's right-of-biological-passage only happens once; I'm guessing this is a dimension where so much as bringing up the topic before one is of age is considered taboo, because wow, that Truth Crystal seems to do 0 about the emotional instability of the human psyche.
