Here now. It's a dunghole. Hot, dusty, boring AF. The town reminds me the arse end of Patong, but without the world class beach across the road, and traffic as bad as Bangkok. Even cycling around on our MTBs is crap. Had a fab night glamping at Inthanon and hiking to the viewpoint, but Chaing Mai town itself is a dump. We were going to stay for Xmas but bollocks to that. Life is too short to waste any of it here.

6:57 “Lanna” is not ethnicity. It’s the name of the ancient kingdom in Northern Thailand where the majority are Thai. We Northern Thai called ourselves as “Khon Mueang” (คนเมือง) or “Tai Yuan” (ไท ยวน) and Northern Thai people aren’t considered as ethnic minority. And the background photo you used here is actually a Khmer/Cambodian temple which is not relevant to Northern Thai people. In fact Northern Thailand is the region that has the least ancient Khmer influence throughout the country.
Next ethnic group that you mentioned is Karen people. However the background image you used here is actually a “Kayan people” or “the long neck Karen.” They are different from majority Karen people in Thailand but related.

CM is such a good all around place, any kind of food, and so many enclaves within the greater city, great medical and dental facilities as well, lots of expats and retirees love it for all those reasons…and…many night markets makes Christmas shopping a half hour affair 🙏🏻👍🏻🇹🇭

That's a good point! I'd never really heard of the dental and medical facilities being good, I'd assumed they weren't very good outside of BKK, but that must just be my BKK prejudice. How long have you lived in Chiang Mai?

The term ethnic minority is not really a tasteful term to use, at least in the US. 6:11
