I've talked to this dev and they're definitely full of hot air, his supporters are weirdly die hard for content so lackluster. A good portion of his games shamelessly steal scenes and concepts from other games.

i feel the same way, something to always keep in mind is that while there's "always someone better" out there, there is also ALWAYS someone worse
I wanna be a game dev too, and I've always had this fear. But, just... Damn. This was too much.
I'd say the best thing to do would be to plan it out and then play through it several times as you go along, trying to get into the perspective of a new player. If you could it'd probably be better to have someone beta test it, too. When you get deep into a project the mind tends to block out flaws and mistakes that others would notice quicker. If the game comes off with the desired effect through a playthrough in a player's mindset, or someone you have beta testing reacts the way you'd like, that's a good sign.
I'm not sure how valid these would be in practice for a game but it's helped me with writing and planned projects so I'd like to think something of that would translate over to a game, too.
A prominent rule in film: "Show, don't tell" this rule will help you, too. Good Luck with your career.

If you're wondering, it's been almost two years since this game released and there's still almost half of the series still to be released and finished.
And that's because apparently he didn't finish the installments in advance! So the community finds all the shapes crap in one game, then has to wait three months for the next game when the release was supposed to be a week, and he has multiple other games completely different from this, none of which have release dates either.
Hmm now doesn't this sound familiar to another dev, you know what I'm talking about, regarding an anime game that hasn't got actual new content in years.

However, the developer’s speech at the start states the other games are locked behind a puzzle which is something anyone who bought the game absolutely needs to know.
90% of what he says should be apart of an optional dev diary and isn’t needed to be heard by the average player.

He was trying to be meta and pretentious with his horror game series when the spritework is ok at best right up until the character you play as who has absolutely TERRIBLE proportions and a walk cycle that fries my brain cells the longer I look at it.
Moving past aesthetics, the "horror" aspect of this horror game doesn't even exist. It really probably is just a rehash of one of his projects when he was younger where he thought "OoOoO how scary dude cringe screams into the phone before randomly appearing and kidnapping you OoHhhh NOOOOOoOooOooo"

I'm was reading the comments like halfway through this and I'm like "oh it's probably just a bunch of people who see that Mark is frustrated and are bandwagoning and I'm sure the game is gonna pick up cause the meta part sounds cool a little too over explained but maybe that's part of the immersiveness later in the game and it'll come together. I'll watch the whole thing before judging this game."
Ok so I've watched the whole video, and this video game is just "What if there was a creepy sexually aggressive stalker" which is making it seem like it's just a vehicle for the developer to be kinda gross. Like he spent so much time building this up and seeming a lil pretentious but like he overall believed in his work and then we literally got nothing. We found a key and got a phone call. That was the whole thing.
Now I haven't played this for myself and I know this was back in 2018 but like If I played the first 5 minutes of this game and it went anything like how it went for Mark I'd prolly request a refund and not play any more of that developers games.
Ignoring everything else wrong with this game, if you're gonna make a slowburn game that's fine but don't make the character walk at 2mph so that when you have to run around like an idiot looking for keys or whatever you don't feel like you're watching paint dry.

When I watch horror game footage I get really paranoid and creeped out. This time I just sat here. You could see also how markiplier wasn’t scared or anything, he just kept making jokes the whole time as if it wasn’t a horror game. This horror game absolutely sucked.

I actually enjoyed Bennett Foddy's narration in Getting Over It. It was insightful and entertaining, similar to The Stanley Parable. This narration was just somebody reminiscing about their past in front of a complete stranger while calling it a horror game.

Honestly, if you wanna give us your life story in a long-ass monoligue, put it in a seperete section of the game, like at the credits or a main menu. Not forcing the player to sit through it before playing the game they PAID YOU for; especially since it's in reality about 10 minutes worth of content until you unlock the rest of it should anyone care enough to find your easter eggs.
Part of me is surprised he even uploaded this video. The rest of me isn't, bc there's no way you put that much effort into a thing that'll never see the light if day.

I feel like he should've saved the introductory autobiography for his website or whatever. Like, there was no reason to put that at the beginning of the actual game. For someone who wants to be a game dev so bad, he doesn't seem to understand how games work much. Hopefully he's gotten better by now, I think this could've been an okay game if he didn't spend more time talking about his life than it would take to actually play the game.

So this self-proclaimed developer is only going to make the sequel if someone plays his game for literal hours going on a BS scavenger hunt that is hidden in the game?! That's like if Scott from five nights at Freddy's was like, " you know what, no one is getting a sequel until they beat 20/20 mode, then beat it three more times, find the pink dodecahedron, click on the fan 5000 times, then play the first night using only your feet, upload it to UA-cam, prove to me you didn't cheat, and then buy me a sandwich."

Having a bad day, like an existential crisis kind of bad day, and experiencing Markiplier's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day is somehow a pick-me-up. The existential dread is still there, but at least I'm having a good time while I ignore it.
This is an old video but all I got from this is a guy who likes hearing his own voice (from what I've seen when I looked him up he voices characters as well as develops the games so I'm assuming he was the voice on the phone), seems to think he's some big shot and honestly sounds like he's acting out some whacko creepy stalker fantasy he has going on in his own mind. I don't normally comment much on UA-cam but this game gave me so much ick
