No one else that I saw commented on this so here I go: I feel like with the whole "A lot of people are going through the same thing" spiel at the end, the fish game might in the weirdest way be a metaphor for... well, any hardship I suppose, but specifically depression or existential crises? Like, in the game, all the other fish you encounter are going through the same thing, so "you're not alone" - but is that comforting? No, because all the others seem just as clueless and pathetic in their grasping for answers as you. You know just as little as everyone else, yet it still fills you with disdain to listen to them pondering the problem as though their pain was the grandest (one contemplating whether to follow the advice of loved ones, one turning to idolatry, one supremely sure of their own wisdom, etc.). "I hate talking about it. Because I hate people who talk about it."
I didn't find those images disturbing at all (video didn't get demonetized). They were nothing compared to documentaries about parasites or videos about botfly larvae getting removed. That whole muscial part was just absolutely weird, but I had a good laugh. Still, I wouldn't eat something while watching it.
“How fish are made” felt like a twisted commentary on life and depression. I could be wrong but that’s what some of the ending sequence made me decide. Plus the staying true to your decisions and seeing others struggle as well. It seemed dark but representative in some way.
I mean, I guess you can think it’s some sort of mental stigma but I’m pretty sure this is just some propaganda about what’s in meat and how it’s actually *made*. Especially the bit at the end. At least that’s what I gleaned from it.
Agreed, I didn't think about it the whole time, bit the ending made me wonder and the more i think about it and the more i believe it could be representing depression
Relevant information for "How Fish Is Made": First and most importantly, Lixian is not kidding with his warning before the "musical number". There are many disturbing and disgusting images present, including the putrefaction of a human brain. You have been warned. Trypophobia, or "fear of holes", is the fear of high-contrast patterns, most often patterns in places that look jarring or off-putting to human sensibilities. The trypophobia segments are at 35:30 to 36:02 and a long one from 42:37 to 45:53. The parasite that eats a fish's tongue is a real thing: Cymothoa exigua, the tongue-eating louse. To be exact, it doesn't actually eat the tongue; it removes the tongue and replaces it, then subsists on the mucus of the fish's mouth. As you might imagine, the game only loosely resembles actual fish processing. Those trypophobia-inducing areas with fish in holes, for instance, are strictly there for the squick factor.
Lixian's voice is just nutty. Screw having him narrate horror, I just want him to have a podcast where he talks about whatever in with smooth Portuguese accent
I like how despite the horror of every intro monster Mark gets transformed into, he's still wearing headphones. Should this be a new creepy pasta monster? The headphones man?
Sadly they are bots, similar things happen in Pewdiepie and Jacksepticeye’s videos, you will see a fuck-ton of these bots on many popular videos, my advice, ignore them. And I doubt this reply will be sent because my phone is a piece of shit.
Making horror games can actually be a lot harder than it first seems. Kind of how even if you listen to music for 20 years, actually making music is still difficult.
@@arcticfox037 that just depends on how much time you put into learning to do that thing. i'm a very amateur composer (if you can even call me that), and tha basics for composition are something that could be learned in like a month if you dedicated to that. Mark's experience would help him because he didn't jus play those games for that long, but because he introspected over many of them "was that one good? why? what made it good? what made it bad?" if you listen carefully and critically to music for years, you would just need a little help to start composing too. now, all i said is valid just for the direction of the game, i know absolutely nothing about programming, so the actual programming of the game may be really, REALLY hard, i wouldn't know, just wanted to throw my two cents
@@arcticfox037 Exactly, You cant just play games for a while and then be like i can easily make a game. You need experience i actually making something , not just using it. We've all lived in houses / apartments for years but don't know how to make them as an example. Glad you pointed this out.
To my knowledge the actual origin is debated and the options on the board considered apocryphal, but the most frequent attribution I hear comes from the trenches of the Great War, with the intended meaning being that the people with whom you've fought, bled, and died are people with whom you have tighter, stronger ties than those with whom you share mere familial legacy. But, again, apocryphal.
“The saying” is actually both because people have purposefully and authentically said it both ways and meant it. We don’t really know the origins of the quote so honestly neither one is “wrong”, just a different sentiment. Just because you disagree with one doesn’t mean it’s nonsensical
@@maddieb.4282I think where the disagreement comes from is the fact that one is pulled from the “original” to fit one’s narrative, and a lot of the time, used to justify poor behavior. People will be quick to invalidate it because of this. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but a big reason why people now are very quick to correct it. I know I was satisfied with correcting the old heads in my family that constantly shoved the “incorrect” version of the quote down my throat. It’s kind of like the whole “honor your mother and father” thing but they neglect to exercise their responsibility to not provoke their children to anger (I’m not a Bible expert don’t come for me). Ik it’s not exactly the same but the context of the settings they’re usually used in definitely is.

Fascinating! The last game to me seemed to symbolize how no one wants to be alone, truly, even if the relationships we choose are unhealthy. We’re all insecure, unsure and struggling, but ultimately we feel alone in our feelings despite knowing others go through the same. In fact, sometimes knowing that you’re just like everyone else, but still alone is somehow worse. In the grand scheme of things we’re insignificant and it’s terrifying and feels hopeless. Lol I should go to bed, that last game made me feel like his game play of SOMA did. Anyone remember that game? That one’s stuck with me.

I was actually thinking about the "Blood is thicker than water" saying the other day, and how so many people get it wrong. Thank you for clarifying that, Mark.
Getting it wrong how? I haven't gotten to that part of the video yet so if you could time-stamp for me, that would be really awesome! If you're talking about the rephrasing "blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" (ignore this if not), that saying came centuries after the original "blood is thicker than water". The rephrasing came from a movement of choosing your own family over your biological one. The fact that people have been spreading rumors about a phrase that is so easily searchable on Google is a little disappointing, but it's even more disappointing that people believe it without doing the research themselves. It took me 5 minutes to check the validity of these claims.
@@nomoretwitterhandles Think people don’t bother to check because they understand that the new phrase is better and they don’t need the internet to validate or invalidate that.
@@florpleborp2275 It's not about which is better. It's about the fact that people thing the original is the "incorrect" or "shortened" version of the rephrase. Like, yes, I love and prefer the "blood of the covenant" rephrase, but that does NOT mean it is the "full version" of the original. That's the type of misinformation that's being said about the phrase, which I disprove of. If you read OP's comment, they said "so many people get it wrong". To me, that implies that OP is under the impression that "blood is thicker than water" is getting misinterpreted. Now they could've meant what I said about how people misunderstand that it's the original phrase; or, they could've meant the opposite, which is why I included the information in my comment in case they didn't know.

“How fish are made” felt like a twisted commentary on life and depression. I could be wrong but that’s what some of the ending sequence made me decide. Plus the staying true to your decisions and seeing others struggle as well. It seemed dark but representative in some way.
I'd probably agree but tbh it still kinda confuses me lol, but I think this game is worth talking about!
still confused
I can honestly agree; especially the ending text.
I both was and wasn't expecting the fish game to end on a deep note about grief and/or depression.
Relevant information for "How Fish Is Made":
First and most importantly, Lixian is not kidding with his warning before the "musical number".
Exactly the comment i was looking for thank you so much. im skipping over the whole game because my trypophobia is so bad 😥

The saying is actually “the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” I love learning things like this, thanks Mark!
Pretty sure that “full quote” is just an interpretation born in the 90’s

If you're talking about the rephrasing "blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" (ignore this if not), that saying came centuries after the original "blood is thicker than water". The rephrasing came from a movement of choosing your own family over your biological one. Anyone else here playing and watching how fish is made post mouthwashing?
38:05 I know it's supposed to be disturbing and Mark's just completely and utterly inconceivably dumbfounded, but that's some of the funniest shit I've seen in a while, especially Mark's just... his reaction... I'm dying from laughing too much someone call an ambulance... No words can describe that experience and his reaction to it.
What was it cuz I closed my eyes
I caught my reflection in the mirror and I was grinning like mad. I loved it. Then I saw Mark's face and almost died at the comparison 😅
@@ashlyn_28 it's not exactly terrifying for me. It depicted some real life parasites and other real life things
im shaking and crying rn
Low-key a banger but the fish muscles definitely got to me little
That fish game really put Mark through all the stages of grief multiple times.
Man unlocked the rare sixth stage of grief.
the message at the end of how fish are made really hits home. the whole game hits home honestly. i wouldn't think i'd relate so much to a game about fish and arbitrary choices but here we are.
what is the message to you? I really didn’t get it
I didn’t get it either
Just kind of an allegory for life. You get dropped in, you try your best to figure shit out with the rest of us, then you leave. Probably just as confused as when you came in. What comes after? No one really knows. But you try to think that the adversity you face and the benefits you enjoy make your time worth it.
The game maker tried to make the end seem morbidly comical, like the whole game was. We'll all find out what's true in due time.
Don’t worry, a lot of people are going through the same thing. You’re not alone.
@@ViridianWoF i see what you did there. clever you.
Every once in a while, I come back to just watch Markiplier's reaction to the How Fish Is Made song.
5:45 you actually managed to glitch the backrooms, impressive
When the game glitches you, so you glitch it back.
In most games, unexpected bugs are immersion breaking, but in the backrooms, they add to the immersion.
I thought that was part of the game
Man, that backrooms game looks promising, but I feel it's missing some awful ambience in the form of the buzz of lights and maybe the slightly wet trudge of the moist wet carpet
i can kind of hear what i assume to be the light buzzing but not the wet carpet
yeah, it definitely needs more ambience. i would love a backrooms game like that without any monsters too, because i feel like the backrooms works best when there's no monsters. it feels much more unsettling in my opinion, constantly waiting for something terrible but it never actually approaching
@@demonindenim Even then- I like the idea of a massive backrooms with only like- a 5% chance of even having a glance of a monster. I feel that in a game format, having the chance of something coming for you but never truly knowing if it is or not would be terrifying.
@@wynog994 yeah that's a great idea, it really makes you imagine if you're seeing things and makes you feel extremely vulnerable
@@wynog994 Enter The Backrooms has that for Level 0, at least.
Mark: “Im assuming there is a monster in here thats gonna chase me and kill me and eat my bones”
Me: “well not on this level but yes”
Yeah I was like "Well at least you're not in any Negative levels"
@@4thrsdnt615 i dont know much about the backroom and the levels but why was he still being chased by a monster in it if its suppose to be safe ish?
@@wunder7379 Because everyone interprets the backrooms differently. Some people think there's only one level, which may or may not have entities. Some say there's civilization, some say that's not a thing.
Bone thieves don't chase, but they steal bones and are located on lvl 0.
@@wunder7379 Look at the backrooms wiki, it has become a thing like scp with different levels being like different scps
