This was my first time playing this game and it was way better than I expected. The story and characters are great, the dungeon design is bad though and there are only 144 Pokémon.
I've realized that the endings in Gates to Infinity and PSMD one are to make the player cry(Gates to Infinity: Because they are knowing that the player is going to the human world and giving a tearful farewells. PSMD: If you guys know about Yu-Gi-Oh! Series when that's Yugi who sacrifice his soul instead of Yami Yugi in the battle duel against Raphael, yeah that's the scene. )
What a surprising coincidence, since I remember my young self playing through both PMD Games on their release dates an immediately cried from the endings! 😢
I remember this game like the back of my hand…. It was the only Mystery Dungeon I ever played. *_Still can’t believe The Bittercold wasn’t a Pokemon, even till this day…_*
And the strangest thing about him is that even though he has no HP in the first battle, in the second, his HP is the same as the player's Pokémon. And added to the fact that he has no type (which I personally think is better, otherwise everyone would just use Tepig) and the fact that he doesn't recover health in case of defeat, it makes the battle end faster than it should. Like, if you are gonna make him not have hp recovery in case of defeat, then why you make his hp equal as the player?
@@ikagura Other than the Bittercold, what other non-Pokémon enemies are there? Every other Pokémon game I've played had you fight the Pokémon themselves, or the trainers used to battle you the player.
Omg I remember the Munna fight being so incredibly difficult for me and for a few reasons too: 1. Munna spamming Moonlight, healing up every one of her gang members including herself about 3/4 of their HP 2. Toxicroak charging up Revenge while my team members just sit there and attack Toxicroak..It’s only scary because Toxicroak I believe has the most HP out of anyone in that fight with over 340 so the more hits you deal on Toxicroak the more dangerous he becomes. 3. Chandelure being able to hit everyone with Flame Burst since you’re crowded in one place 4. Rock Blast Gigaliths just using up my Reviver Seeds because Emolga can’t take their hits well
It's occured to me that this game had more battles against the main antagonist group than the other PMD games. Rescue Team doesn't even have an antagonist group aside from Team Meanies who aren't even the final antagonists. Explorers just had the Dusknoir battle (and Darkrai in the post game). Not counting Dialga since the one you face is technically not Dusknoir's master yet. PSMD does come close with the two Void Shadow fights, then Yveltal and Dark Matter, but none of those fights happen until well into the second half of the story. Meanwhile, just a few bosses into Gates, we're already fighting two members of Munna's gang, and every fight for the rest of the game is related to the Bittercold in some manner. ...Also, I'm realizing that Munna's gang is basically Torna before Torna. 😶
Compared to Gengar in Rescue Team, Dusknoir in Explorers of Sky, and the mind-controlled Pokemon in Super, Lady Munna really goes *that* far to destroy the entire Pokemon World. 🌎
@@Aeenjyl What I really like about Gates to Infinity's writing is that the main villains' goals actually tie into the theming of the game rather than being a threat that's kind of just there to be stopped.
Wow man when I saw this I remember my childhood. It was my first ever mystery dungeon game I ever play. After that I love it and got super mystery dungeon. I own Pokemon overdrive figure toy of Black and White Kyurem and when I remember the story that Kyurem was the 2nd antagonist in this game who promoted Munna and the Gang to pursuit destroying the world it pain me being that Kyurem is one of my favorite legendary Pokemon ever and the only one that can absofusion ability. Aww yes. I remember playing this game when I was a kid. I cried at the ending but when I’m went back playing this game at 22 years old I tried holding in my tears but I gave up and burst into tears.
Honestly this was my childhood mystery dungeon game and nowadays i don’t know how i struggled with it when i can now beat the game in literally a day. 😅😂
I don't know why many people hate this game. This game is literally my childhood. And the soundtrack? Oh. My. God. I was pretty young and this was actually one of my first ever Pokémon games. I know, it's kinda weird. But I grew up watching the anime and once I got a 3DS, I wanted a Pokémon game, and I saw this one... I never knew how normal Pokémon games worked back then since I was too young to understand, so I never knew this was considered a spinoff game. Either way, I have so much memories of this game, and I must thank it for existing. It was the main reason I started playing the core series games. Thank you, Gates to Infinity. 💚🎼
I remember this game. And I have no shame in admitting that even after looking at the other games, it’s still my favorite installment. In true Gen 5 fashion, people hated this game upon release because it dared to be different. Yes, it’s stupidly easy, and yes it lacks the majority of Pokémon, but everything else here holds up well for a Mystery Dungeon game. I would also say this is the most accessible Mystery Dungeon game overall, and that in some cases the easier difficulty is actually a good thing so as not to interrupt the story’s pacing too much when an otherwise difficult dungeon keeps the player stuck for longer than would be preferred. I’d still say it’s a slightly worse game overall than Rescue Team or Explorers, but compared to Super this is a great example of quality over quantity.
This what i can give credit to Gates of Infinity They could have done a legendary pokemon be the final boss again but instead they made something original and never seen, which is awesome Showing that in that universe, there are a lot of threats besides pokemon
It's lame though. Bittercold wasn't even a living being. It was just... a thing. This may be ok for a warmup boss like Demons Souls Phalanx, but not for the final boss and the climax of the game. The game would have been a lot better if the final boss was Kyurem. Also Primal Dialga was the best.
Me redoing psmd seeing this. "I know whats next" Now to talk abt GTI, still my least favorite of the 4 worldwides pmd for lots of reasons, i still enjoyed it a lot. But it dosen't have the content the 3 others had, still had a good "fleeing" episode and a good plot imo.
This was my first time playing this game and it was way better than I expected. The story and characters are great, the dungeon design is bad though and there are only 144 Pokémon.
I agree, it was just a matter of adding 7 more Pokémon to keep the classic 151, but it is undeniable that this game is really good.
@@NintenUnity agreed but at least we still have some good story arcs
Be glad for text speed mods
Did you play Super yet i like that one alot (also big difficulty spike compared to gates but you can handle it)
I want a Gates DX that addresses those problems and keeps the great story.
also more postgame and content and recruitable pokemon would go a long way

Mystery Dungeon Gates to Infinity was such an oddity, on the account that one of the bosses, the Bittercold, wasn't even a Pokémon.
Something that I wish we had way more of in the franchise moving forward
