I am always astounded at the people on Whatnot who see a seller for the first time and know they are lying about their price and decide to trust that person anyway.
These are part of the reasons I don't shop on Whatnot. There is no way to verify any of the information they giving since you have to make a split second decision on your purchase. All sales are based on FOMO. I personally hate buying this way. I'd rather pay a little more and be sure of what I get
I've been a seller on Whatnot for a couple of years. The person that told you to return the book for a refund was absolutely trying to scam you. To my knowledge, there is no way for a seller to issue returns or refunds on Whatnot at all. The only way is for the buyer to go through customer service like you did. CS usually gives 2 choices, 1. Offer a partial refund (20% is common), or 2. A return and full refund. If you choose to return it, then it gets sent to a Whatnot warehouse in AZ for a future warehouse sale. The seller never gets the return.
Oh wow!!! I actually messaged the seller that I went through whatnot and they gave me a full refund and told me to keep the book. His response? "Excellent." Huh. lol. So could he process a return claim for the buyer? And if so, that could be why he wanted me to return the book so he can still reap the benefits of keeping the sales money, and then being able to get the book back and sell it again.
@JernosComicsPopCulture that may be what he was trying to do. When a buyer goes through CS for a return, the seller keeps the money, and Whatnot just eats the loss. In fact, the seller isn't even notified that a return is happening and they are protected from negative feedback. I'm sure Whatnot has insurance to help against losses, and also the warehouse sales will help too
I have all but stopped on whatnot, i got tired of sellers whining because people were not bidding up their hot garbage. Seeing books go way more than fmv. Presenting books in mylar that hide flaws, some sellers are good about showing up close the flaws to be fair. All in all, Not worth it to me.
I dove into some of the whatnot “mystery box” gambling bs against my better judgment and this one seller legit sent me books without a board lol….in a bag but decided to save some trees with no board. But then proceeded to send in an envelope between two pieces of cardboard.
I am a seller on whatnot and give my buyers the exact condition and also start my auctions pretty low on the value of my items. I take my time with my shipping even give my buyers an extra book at times. Whatnot is not your issue its that indivual seller on whatnot. You really can't put all whatnot sellers in the same category. just like you can't say all ebay sellers are Scammers. Cause some of us are not influencers types and try our best to make extra money to provide to our families in this economy.
I agree with you 100%, and never did I put all whatnot sellers in the same category, and I always make this clear in my videos. I even posted a video about an amazing Whatnot experience I had a few weeks back. Every marketplace is going to have its issue with sellers. Doesn't matter if it is EBay, Whatnot, or even at the LCS level.
I run into poor shipping methods like this sometimes as well, once recently on a $400 original art purchase, blows my mind how people think that’s acceptable. Sorry that happened to you man
Dude..... I bought a hellblazer 1 from eBay . Scans were perfect . When it showed up in a manilla envelope. I almost puked . It was in all different kinds of beer and liquor boxes . By some miracle no damage. The same seller had an omega men 3 I said I'd buy it but it has to go in a Gemini. They said they have 1 . Bought it and boom same stupid boxes . But more miracles so no damage .
Insurance scam? That could explain the $250 price tag on the book. You take photos of damage and write a note about the damage, then seller files claim for $250 including photo with price tag?
Never thought of that, but if it's all through Whatnot, the insurance, and all, then I would assume they would still use the sold price, but maybe he has insurance outside of Whatnot? I don't know.
This sounds so similar to my experience. I had been out of comic collecting for over 20 years and I got back in with whatnot. Was a huge misfire. $10k+ in a few short months. FOMO got me bad. I ended up with some good stuff, but it ended up being an overall bad experience. I received a ton of comics that were in poor condition. You could tell no one even bothered taking them out of the bag to grade them. I still look back at some shows and they still never take them out of the bag and never really tell you what condition they are. They just start a timer and let the FOMO work.
Seller shipped it like that purposely. I still have a $10 whatnot credit I've never used. Whether comicbooks, coins, or whatever it ends up overpriced and going to one of the sellers fanboy followers.
@@JernosComicsPopCulture Yes the seller. He didn't get the price he wanted. That's why his packaging was poor. I have had it happen to me. Either they take a week because they don't get what they want or they pack poorly. OR they have multiple copies of a book and send the lower end copy.

Same here. Deleted my account now. More dodgy sellers than there are good ones. Plus Whatnot sided with the sellers each time.
Judging by how he shipped that book out, I wouldn't trust that seller on anything.
The worst kind of seller. Lazy, greedy, no pride in their service.

lol crazy
Jernoooo the Whatnot police. Bro, u need to speak up and call these people out during their live shows
They can just block you.
Packing is an important part of selling a product online. Most do a great job, but there are a few careless packers.
Been picking up a few floppies and trades
off Ebay. No issues except the mail
delivery staff folding ruining one of them!!
Oh man :/
Haha worst day ever!
As a reseller, I know this type of packaging is unacceptable.

Good 😊 stuff & West up 🔝
👊🏼
Whatnot is like any other business. Some good some bad
Core-ahhh-gate-ed cardboard 😊
Yes!!! Thank you! lol
Where does the website get their raw comic book sales data from?
eBay, MyComicShop
I run into poor shipping methods like this sometimes as well, once recently on a $400 original art purchase, blows my mind how people think that’s acceptable. Sorry that happened to you man
Ouch. Does whatnot have a feedback or rating feature?
They do.
Who is the seller please. I buy on whatnot a lot.
I hope you come be known as the guy that keeps whatnot in check 😂

Use gemini mailers! In a USPS Priority padded mailer. Presto, great shipping, fast 😊
I would have refunded your money and have you kept the book. Thats good customer service though.
Indeed.
$250?? That seller is crazy. You actually paid FMV for the estimated grade BUT with the damage I’m not sure that is a 5.5.
Oh it’s nowhere close now. I would be lucky if the book got a 2.5 with that damage.
I gave WhatNot 12k in 4 months but the time it took to deal with bad grades or shipping damage made me never go back.

Hmmmmm lol I’ll have to think of something!
Some sellers on there are cool. It’s like anything els. I buy from those I know.
