@Phantomiam if we can have two Batmen at the same time, why can't we also have two Dick Grayson's? One starting out by the end of this film, and one being Nightwing for a few years now.
It makes you think, right?! Like, what if…The Court of Owls had the Grayson family killed as sort of Dick’s initiation into the group. Just fan theory.
Incredible breakdown and discussion. No one can do these like you can. Really appreciate your methodological approach in breaking this down point by point, clue by clue. I agree with you - while it really feels like Reeves is all but saying it is the Court, it’s hard to fathom how, given how all the clues about corruption in the first movie were seemingly wrapped up or explained. As you go through in this video, you could extrapolate some things to mean another hidden layer of corruption, but it feels like a bit of a reach in most cases. However, if we entertain that it is in fact the Court, then to further make sense of this, we need to think like writers. What made the Court of Owls storyline so effective in the comics was that Batman discovers the Court as we the reader discovers it. It’s a shock to him and it’s a shock to us, and it reframes his entire perspective on Gotham, just like it does with us. That’s part of why this storyline is so beloved. In the original 7 issue storyline, the reveal of the Court comes at the end of issue #3, which is about halfway through. In screenwriting/storytelling terms, there is often a twist of some kind that happens at the midpoint of the story that’s called the “Midpoint Turn.” If you look for it in your favorite movies, you’ll be able to spot it fairly easily. It’s often something that changes things for the protagonist in a big way. It doesn’t have to be a literal twist, and sometimes it’s just a realization by the protagonist that they need to handle their problems in a different way. In any case, the comics storyline reveals the Court at this point to give that big turn to the story. However, say in future interviews Reeves reveals straight up that it is the Court, or drops more hints that make us certain that it can’t be anything else. Then our knowledge and Batman’s is misaligned. A Midpoint Turn reveal of the Court isn’t going to shock us. Even if most movie goers aren’t comics readers, there are still going to be a ton of explainers and word of mouth accounts of what the Court is, and viewers are already going to be accustomed to the idea that Gotham is highly corrupt. It just won’t have that punch. “I’m investigating corruption…oh no, there’s even worse corruption!” is not much of a twist. The Court will have to be revealed before the midpoint, maybe as part of the initial setup. But then what is the gut-punch at the midpoint? I don’t know. Maybe this is why it’s taken Reeves so long to write the script. He has a lot of plot points and mysteries to manage if he wants something that recreates the experience of reading that comic run for the first time. One possible twist I thought of, not necessarily midpoint-worthy, but could work for the storyline in general, is that Bella Reál is Court. Otherwise I don’t know! But like you, I trust Reeves, though I think if it is the Court, he’s really got a challenge on his hands.
It would not be easy to introduce a character like Hush naturally into this world, especially considering that Thomas Elliot hasn't been established yet either. Unless they change his identity/give him an actual good motivation, he's gonna suck bad.
If The Court of Owls are being set up in the sequel I think that the Waynes would have to be the former members as they are as close to Gotham royalty as you could get.
And regarding the "clues" I think that Martha wasn't as insane as people made her out to be and that Thomas Wayne was fully aware that she wasn't because he was trying to protect her from The Court.
I think that Thomas was supposed to be planted as the mayor of Gotham instead of Falcone but Martha was coming closer to exposing them therefore Thomas or The Court sends her away to Arkham just so people would doubt her because no one would think twise about the ramblings of an insane woman.
The Court employs Falcone as the new mayor/the Court's fall guy to replace Thomas Wayne if he carries out their murder and takes the blame if someone were to investigate too close.
To be fair, Colson wouldn’t have to know specifically about the Court of Owls to understand the scope of the corruption in the city. He could definitely know that it was much bigger than just people at his level.
@@JNel77 Yeah I think that the court chooses one specific person as a puppet and they kinda talk through that person so they choose someone like a mayor or someone like Falcone to controll everything. Mitchell probably would know that even Carmine Falcone has people in power he answers to he just doesn't know who they are. I'm guessing if he did know he would be executed by the Court anyways.
I just hope there is a lot of snow. At this point i have given up on heart of ice, but snowy envoirement with their cinematography would still be great
Boba, I don't think the sequel will pertain to the court of owls. If anything, I think it will follow up on the thread from the first with Bruce being an Arkham and Martha being a patient. I think the corruption of Arkham will be front and center. However, i don't think The Court Of Owls is out of the question. I would like to see them built up and then tackled in a final "The Batman" film. Pattinson is just too young in the series to confront the court. As a side note, the whole scene with the DA seems to hint at the court, but it's moreso likely about the mob Edit:Damn never mind Boba, I guess I should watch the whole video 😅
it really doesn't matter that much when Batman faces the Court imo. It more or less serves the same function either way. Still, I think its because Matt says "deeper" corruption that makes people think the court. The Arkham thing would just be sort of adjacent corruption I guess.
I share the opinion that given the themes the first film laid out of Batman discovering Gotham's covertly run by corrupt hands, introducing the court may feel kind of repetitive. I know it wouldn't be the exact same, but I think I'd still rather like to see a rogue that offers a different challenge
Couple of things not mentioned. One there’s talk of clayface being one of the villains. Two there was a court of owls mask at Wayne manor. Showing that the Wayne’s were a part of the court of owls. That could be a darker look at the court of owls as that his father or his mother or his grandparents were part of the court. I speculate this will be background and most likely lightly touched on as a background plot.
I have a feelimg Brave and Bold will be more on the "fantastical" side whereas.. a Zsasz, Hugo (as you mentioned), Court, Two-Face, Calendar Man.. I feel like those fit more with Reeves Batman
@@qhorton6743My question is do you think will get the Talons in this as well? I know Reeves said he wanted to keep it grounded and a zombie assassin might not fit within that picture. Or could we potentially get Court of Owls with Reeves and then maybe the Talons for Nightwing?
@@moviebuff9278 I think the "zombie" aspect will be replaced for Reeves universe.. similar to how the Lazarus Pit and Bane were adjusted for Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises
@@qhorton6743 Probably. But do you think a army of assassin might also be too much for his universe? I'm thinking he might have the Talons as secret hit men for the organization?🤷♀️
I like what you said about Gil Colson. It was one thing I didn't love about The Batman - Colson's so terrified about what "they" would do to his family/loved ones and it makes perfect sense in the context of the movie, but...that's the big twist? That the Falcone mob controls Gotham? It always felt somewhat underwhelming and I think it would be more impactful if the deeper corruption hinted at was, in fact, the Court of Owls. Also a good point that Colson wouldn't be privy to the secrets of the Court but I don't think he has to be...all he has to know is that Falcone is pulling the strings, BUT there are even scarier and more powerful people pulling the the strings behind HIM. Good stuff as always!
I mean, if it does ultimately prove to be the COO, then OBVIOUSLY regardless of how 'on the nose' it might have seemed at the time, Matt Reeves 100% meant to tease it in the 1st film. Also, if his clues are so direct, then it would be logical to assume that Hush is the other entity who Batman likely faces in part 2.
Don’t mean to sound like this, but didn’t we already know the court was coming? When Riddler talked about Gotham city’s corruption being its foundation and it spanning back decades, alluding to Bruce’s father being in on it, the detective with the device on his neck saying “it’s bigger than you and me” in the cathedral when he didn’t want to tell Batman anything and, etc. There were plenty of things pointing to them showing up at some point.
Thank you so much Brutal, as always bro. It is, I felt so good when we got this news because it sent me right back to 2020+ - As it's the first real stuff we've gotten in a long, long time!
Remember the quote that Reeves gave during the premier about the “Un-named Arkham Prisoner” (Joker)? As I remember him, saying, he simply wanted there to be the feeling of so much more crime in Gotham, a kind of long-standing persistent undercurrent of chaos that went beyond the Riddler killings. That in someway could be a “seed.”
The first film explores government corruption. What if part ll explores corporate corruption behind gothcorp. And a potential part lll exploring court corruption with ties to Arkham Asylum.
I believe one seed is Selina Kyle. In the film she is a Mary Sue with fighting and stealth skills way beyond what she should have in her situation. I think she could have been trained or affiliated with the court somehow.
Regarding the Court of Owls being responsible for the Wayne murders, I could easily see an interesting way to tie them together. As a billionaire and one of the most powerful men in Gotham, as well as running for Mayor at the time of his murder, perhaps the Court approached Thomas for recruitment at some point. Maybe they even offered him a secured victory in his election if he joined them and agreed to act as an extension of the Court while as Mayor. Obviously the Court would be highly invested in securing the Mayor's office, and it would be a billionaire Mayor no less. But maybe Thomas rejected them, and perhaps even threatened to expose them to the public. So obviously the Court couldn't allow this to happen, and took necessary measures to not only stop him from going public, but eliminate the possibly of him EVER going public. I'm sure the Court also approached Thomas' political opponent at the time and secured his obedience, so as to cover all their bases and ensure compliance from the Mayor's office.
Thanks for the video. Can't wait to hear more! One thing that I think is important moving forward...people will always look backward when speculating and making their wishlist for these next two films. Past movies, comics, etc. With our two Matts cooking on this script for so long they are going to come up with something SO original that we wouldn't have even known to ask for it before. Just gotta wait
I kind of hope that we feel the presence of the Court Of Owls in the second film but I want them to keep them until the third and final movie in which they become the villain. However, I think taking orphans and turning them into Talon assassins would work perfectly. I still hope Professor Pyg is the villain for part 2.
Actually, I thought the Riddler was killing corrupt political officials because he was trying to expose the Court of Owls, and he would die with the court, making him look like a villain.
During the scene where Batman is helping the DA answer riddles, the following conversation takes place: Colson: “I have family, people that I love, they’ll kill them too.” Batman: “who will?!” Colson: “the people are watching!” Batman: “what people?!” Colson: “it’s SO much bigger than you can imagine. It’s the whole system!” Now Colson could’ve just been referring to Carmine and everyone else but this could’ve also been one of those “seeds” for the court of owls
Waynes, Arkhams, Court of owls. Probably going to find out the reason the waynes even started renewal is because the court was trying to do something to take all the money away from the people who needed it and it was their way of trying to combat them without outing them. I think the "seeds" that Reeves is referencing is more so things that riddler started revealing but maybe was just scratching the surface. I think Edward elliot maybe was finding out more than he thought and Thomas Wasyne was genuinely concerned for Edward and wanted to protect him from finding out too much. And that coverup was the beginning of the court of owls forming Also as far as I understand Reeves doesnt say that the main focal point of the movie is going to be the discovery of this very deep corruption but rather that he will continue to discover it in the second part. Or at least thats how i understand it EDIT: Also the warden from arkham i bet will be a part of the corruption and potentially the court
im not a fan of the court tbh. they’re cool in the comics, but for a big feature film i would prefer a singular main antagonist with another side antagonist, like they did in the first film with riddler and penguin primarily (even though carmine falcone is technically included, i don’t really see him as a rogues gallery villain per se) something like scarecrow and hush, or freeze and clayface for the second film. it’s just more cinematic that way. the whole court of owls just doesn’t have that same cinematic punch that one individual and more recognisable big bad would imo.
I disagree I can see it hitting more for the simple fact it’ll be Batman fighting a bunch of crazy undead ninja mtfs and the atmosphere could bring would be like nothing we’ve seen in a live action Batman film.
@@lilstupidahhboy5155 i kinda get where you’re coming from but any villain can have goons. they wouldn’t be ninjas but you get what i mean. and matt reeves wouldn’t make them undead in a grounded take. i’m not saying i want joker for the second film (i don’t), but 200 faceless ninjas would pale in comparison to the cinematic punch that an iconic arch nemesis-like solo villain like that would bring. i think having a whole group of people be the main villains just makes things a little soupy imo. better it be an A-lister rogue like freeze that would give batman a proper face off. not saying i don’t like the court and they do fit this universe’ style, but like i said one or two big villains packs a bigger punch
@@lilstupidahhboy5155 i also think that while the court of owls is by no means a weak storyline, batmans rogues are packed with the most iconic out of any superhero imo. there are so many stronger options to explore with some of the more recognisable rogues. scarecrow, freeze, bane, joker, two face etc are just too good to pass up on for another detective noir about corruption, that’s been touched on enough i feel especially considering some of them like freeze haven’t even had a proper film adaptation yet
Reeves loves the idea of the established rogues gallery and it’s about time we see that in the Batman movies imagine all the main rogues return in the third film as we see the transition from the families to the freaks
From what we have i have some thoughts: 1. The next step; we saw the mobsters side of the corruption of Gotham in part 1 and soon the penguin, so if there was a much deeper layer, it would be the opposite side of Gotham; the elite, the rich folks, the ones above the people. That doesn't necessarily means the court of owls will be the villains of part 2. And honestly, i see them more as the ultimate boss for Gotham in part 3 with the Joker being batman's ultimate foe of course. (Side note: If penguin remains the kingpin for a while, knowing who he is, he wouldn't be happy to learn that he isn't as much in control as he thinks) 2. The Wayne's sins; despite Alfred's claim of innocence, the Wayne's could have been part of the corruption. Like you said, we still don't know who killed them and who knows, maybe we'll learn more in part 2. But they were a wealthy family, so maybe they have connections to the elites of Gotham. 3. Hush, the mention of the Elliots can't be just an easter egg, i could imagine a scenario where, while Riddler was attacking the city's officials, maybe we could see Thomas Elliot killing the wealthy people of Gotham which would include the Waynes. And that would have a domino effect with Batman and Gordon discovering the secret of Gotham's true corruption. 4 the Crime Saga; it is a very interesting choice of title for Reeves story, that would mean that the entire story will not just be about Batman/Bruce, but also the unravel of Gotham's corruption. And in each title, we would see a part of this city's sins: Part 1, Gotham's officials; the penguin, the crime family. What other parts of the city could we see: the elites, Arkham, the court, a cult? Guess we'll have to find out.
I remember the 2020/ early 2021 era of The Batman hype, watching your discussion/ theory videos and being so unbelievably excited for the movie. I'm so glad we're re-entering this era for Part 2
I know a few people are disappointed that Matt Reeves is sticking to his guns on the “realism” aspect of his Batman… but there’s still a plethora of villains we could see him adapt in his else-worlds universe: . - The Court of Owls (and Talon) - Professor Pyg - Two-Face - Deathstroke - Hush - Clayface (OG wax mask version) - Anarchy - Zsasz - The Ventriloquist and Scarface - Black Mask - Scarecrow (realistic drugs replacing his “fear toxin”) - Deadshot - Hugo Strange - Bane (as a large mercenary for hire… sadly without his signature venom) - Harley Quinn - Killer Croc (they could do the tragic skin condition Story) - Firefly - The Great White Shark - Calendar Man RIP to the thought of us getting his more fantastical rogues like: - Poison Ivy - Mr Freeze - Killer Croc (as a giant crocodile man) - Man Bat - Solomon Grundy - Bane (with his Toxin) - Clayface (being a huge shapeshifting monster) - Mad Hatter - Ra’s al Ghul (unless he wants to redo the realistic Ra’s from Nolan’s Batman Begins)
I mean having it be revealed that maybe even Falcone was an agent of the court (not a proper member, but a puppet for them) would be a cool angle, especially if it ties directly into him being used to possibly take out Thomas Wayne who maybe was going to expose The Court.
Guys... Did nobody realize the first film also HEAVILY hints at Hush? I think we're sort of jumping to conclusions when it comes to the villain being the court.
I saw a comment on Reddit about how the corruption could be linked with Hugo Strange and Arkham. Maybe it could involve Strange using the drops to pass people off as insane and have them committed to Arkham, kind of like Thomas Wayne did in the telltale game. With Martha being one of Strange’s victims in a conspiracy that still goes on to this day.
i realy like the angle that reeves is going, because it feels like a natural progression of where batman should go...in the first film he learned that vengence wont change the past and people need hope, but he also learned going around gotham and punching criminals will not save the city,so remember, the thing that created riddler was the corruption in renewal, and it isnt like, falcone is dead ,corruption is over, and it isnt like falcone started all the problems with gotham,so maybe we will see batman investigating where all this misery truly started, and he investigates not just the history of corruption in gotham, but the history of gotham it self, and that is how he finds out there is a source to all of this caos that is gotham, also another seed i think is riddler calling the waynes and the arkhams the "gotham founding families" maybe we will learn more secrets of the arkham family and how they might be the responsible for all this and the source, they being court of owls or not
Back when the first movie came out I was really hopeful that this universe would tackle the Court of Owls because I really think a more grounded take on the concept is exactly what it needs, that aside from the fact that I just sincerely believe it'd fit into this world. Especially with a Bruce who might now be starting to move towards a more philanthropist public image, It'd be interesting to see The Court try and pull him into their fold.
The older are "better" because they have many iterations, because lots of artists had their own chances to work on them - adaptations included (Burton, Timm & Dini, Nolan, even the games)! Reeves picking up The Court is the best thing that could happen to it.
@@claudiabcarvalho I partially agree, but The Court of Owls lacks the existential weight of characters like the Joker and even Clayface. This whole "underground movement in a world of lies" trope is just getting old at this point. And having a bunch of Eyes Wide Shut cosplaying dudes wearing ridiculous owl masks is, as I said, hokey.
@@amasvodka Tropes are only tiresome when they're used as crutches due to lack of writing skills or pure laziness, and we know Reeves is none of the above. He was the only director who was actually interested in Bruce/Batman, not only in his villains. He's doing a great job so far and I have no reason to believe that The Court will be something that sloppy. And we still have The Penguin show!
I disagree with you about the whole Gil Colson quote. I think Gil may not know who or what the court of owls is specifically, but I’m pretty sure he is well aware that there are powers at be beyond his comprehension. I think he knows the corruption goes deeper than what is initially believed to be.
I'm half and half on it. Mainly because I would love to see them in the DCU, where you get to see the whole Batfamily interact with the Court of Owls and the Talons. Plus you can go big with it. I wouldn't be disappointed if they appear in the Batman universe, that would still be cool. Just feel like we can have a bigger, more grandeur storyline with them in the DCU.
*Interesting!* 😉 *Thanks for the new video,**#BobaTalks**!* *Well, we'll see what Matt Reeves chooses for The Batman: Part 2!* *My choice candidate would be the Charles Dante version of the villain, Spellbinder but you like you saud, we shall have to wait abd see for more information as well have faith on Matt Reeve's plan for The Batman 2!* 🤗 🦇
There was a lot sprinkled in the first movie and it can go a couple places one thing many didn't pick up on leads to bane or bane like power because at the end when Batman took the stuff that increased his strength that can possibly be what bane uses or future criminals to increase their strength and give Batman a real challenge(supersoldiers)
My issue with the potential inclusion of Hush in the new movie is that Hush was originally depicted as someone investigating the Wayne family when Bruce was a child. This would make him significantly older, which doesn’t fit well with suddenly introducing him as a friend who was never mentioned before. I would prefer seeing villains like the Court of Owls, which seems like a more fitting direction. I understand that we might not get the more fantastical villains from the comics, but it’s crucial for the film to be action-packed. Watching the original film again, it's clear that Batman's detective work was lacking. For example, he completely overlooked the significance of photos taken outside the nightclub where everything culminates. In the comics and games, Batman would have definitely checked such crucial locations. It’s a major oversight that makes the film’s depiction of Batman as a detective seem inadequate.
25:06 what if it’s not the Wayne’s but the Arkam’s? Martha tries to get away from the court and they frame her and make her look crazy… then they’re killed not because of anything to do with Thomas or Falcone, but because the information that might have gone public would have risked exposing The Court. The movie could end with The Court not quite defeated and loose threads still left unsolved. Part 3 could be like an Arkam Asylum movie, where Batman needs to delve into the depths of Arkam to finally get answers, and face off against members of his rogues gallery along the way
in the arkham scene, where batman and riddler talk, before riddler gets up,the camera angle shows batman's mask as an owl shape mask. I believe that was intensional on behalf of matt reeves.
I can't wait for The Batman Part II and I'm so glad that we're getting The Penguin to tide us over. It's very likely that The Batverse will become my preferred Superhero universe out of the DCU, DCEU, and MCU, we'll see. Thank God we're getting some news on the sequel, I feel like Matt Reeves has poured everything into this movie and I hope it shows in the final film.
I would love to see the court of owls. I hope we get another side antagonist though like The Ventriloquist and Scarface. Having a side antagonist would be a perfect way to reveal the court. Imagine a scene between Batman and the ventriloquist where the ventriloquist is trying to tell Batman about the court while Scarface is trying to silence him. It would be a great villain moment, and also would lead into the larger story.
The court of owls is like the real life bohemian grove. A group of super elites controlling things from behind the scenes. Not hard to imagine the court pulling the strings in reeves’ Gotham/universe.
On the "*blank* doesn't fit the corruption theme..." aspect, I gotta refute that, because neither did Riddler. The Riddler's character is not typically involved with stories like The Batman, and his involvement in unearthing Gotham's corrupt history was made up for the movie. You can easily do that with other rogues as well.
I got some Batman part 2 theories that you could talk about in a video. Scarecrow is responsible for Martha losing her mind while at Arkham, this in turns creates personal conflict between Bruce and Crane. Would be a great subplot to explore. I really think someone like Bill Skarsgard could be great as scarecrow. Court of Owls are responsible for Scarecrow being born and he’s a porn in their big plan? Similar to what happened in Batman Begins with Scarecrow working for Ra’s Al Ghul. Hugo Strange is part of the Owls and is working closely with them?
My only doubt with it being the Court would be the fact The Penguin is getting a whole series to set himself up as the kingpin. Wouldn't the Court intervene with this?? And if the Wayne's were involved with the Court, it would've made more sense Thomas going to them for help with the reporter rather than Falcone
I'm so ready for this sequel. I think Matt Reeves may take this opportunity to explore The Court of Owls, but he can also choose Hush as the main villain for The Batman part2. I guess we must wait and see. But, I think Matt Reeves could possibly use Hush for this sequel, tease The Court of Owls, and save them for the end of trilogy as the grand finale?
I wonder if Riddler was on to the COO, & chose to send his clue w/an OWL on the cover of the card as a way to either test Batman's knowledge, or supply him w/a clue because he believed that he & Batman were working together.
Thomas was a card carrying member and knew about the corruption. He ran for mayor to change things. The court can't have that and hires Falcone. The payoff...the Wayne Foundation fund from the first movie.
Have you noticed the spears on Batman’s gauntlet are literally apart of the court of owls talon costumes? Also; what if Alfred was a member of the owls and that’s where he learned how to fight and fashion Bruce’s outfit? Also, all the seeds… bird seeds?
I'm not a fan of the Court of Owls story. The idea that Gotham's sins and corruption stem from a big bad organization instead of humanity’s greed simply feels boring and childish. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed when I read the interview. Another dive into Gotham’s deeper corruption? That feels kind of repetitive to me. I thought it would have been great to take a break from the corruption theme in the second installment and focus on sympathetic villains like Freeze for once.
Agree so dull I wanna see characthers like the Scarecrow, F Face, Black Mask, Bane etc I loved the first movie but the corruption this has been done adding to much of it is just boring. The whole COO thing is not all that exciting.
I wish Matt Reeves would do maybe 5 movies rather than the likely 3. Would love to see him deal with the Court of Owls, but also quite a few other villains, and for Ra's Al Ghul, Bane and Talia to be in there somewhere at some point. I feel like with both Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan, they were sort of racing through it a bit too quick, often with two villains in each movie, and then their done. I want there to be enough movies that villains can return. Like Heath Ledger's Joker was meant to.
Love your breakdowns Boba! The one thing i don’t understand from fans though is all of the hype with Hush? I mean he’s “okay” but is he really that great? The Hush comic was good because you didn’t know who this mysterious guy was that was always a step ahead and why he hated Wayne so much. Once the reveal happens, it’s an awesome reveal, but to me, that’s where the magic dies for him for me. He’s got the personal tie with Batman which is always great for a villain to have. But other than that mystery, he wasn’t an epic villain, just my opinion. And the whole surgical face swap stuff is cool but in reeves universe? I don’t think it’ll work Now scarecrow or Freeze… those are interesting villains with entertaining abilities that could be realistic and challenge Batman on different levels. Would also love to see some lesser known villains in a scene or 2 where maybe Batman stops them in the opening scene but we get to see them in this universe. Guys like deadshot, anarky, zsasz
I think after the first film Bruce could try to get more involved in the orphanages. He starts to notice that orphans are going missing all around the city. No one used to care so they didn’t notice. Once the court sees Bruce is on the case, they try to bring him into to the court and tell him his parents were in. He has to figure out his parents were actually killed by the court via Falcone and has to take them down from the inside out as BRUCE, not Batman.
So many possibilities. This would be the perfect way to reinvent Tommy Elliot/Hush. Thomas Elliot could totally replace Lincoln March from the comic book and be that main villain. Hush, at least in the book, was one of those rich elites. There obviously won't be undead ninjas in this universe (maybe the Talons are simply hitmen) so Hush could be that secondary thing. Maybe the Court dispatched Tommy Elliot after Riddler leaked that video. Maybe Hush disguises himself as Bruce for, or against the Court. Maybe the film begins with the Identity Theft killings which then leads to the Court connection. In the book, the Court also had connections to Freeze and Dick Grayson, so they may also be a thing in this film or the third. Hush also had a story revolving Catwoman in the Hearth of Hush comic, there's that as well.
Honestly if it’s a more grounded approach it could definitely be Bane…a smart antagonist that was working the system & in the shadows studying Batman until he revealed himself 💯 Again with the possibility that Batman used Venom at the end of the first film, I think the storyline would be intriguing! However the court of owls 🦉 during the winter would be epic!
Maybe Thomas Wayne had a eyes wide shut scenario where he’s seen things he shouldn’t and the court was aware and got him and Martha killed still interesting
Boba... Lin here. I believe I commented on one of your videos about CoO being possible, when I tied it to Colson's lines in the film to it. "It's the whole system." The CoO control the social, economic and political systems in Gotham. With the mob being in their pockets and the rogues running amok, the elites of the CoO stand to benefit most by keeping Gotham in ruin. By the time this trilogy ends, I don't think this Batman will be seasoned, still. I think it will end with Batman *knowing* who the enemies are. It's from *there* that this Batman will proceed being the hero Gotham knows hom to be.
The Court of Owls is interesting but how will he bring them down alone? In the comics it took the entire Bat Family on deck to deal with them. It would be nice if they teased they exist of he begins seeing signs of them, as it stands they have a bigger organization and reach than he has right now and he is only in his what third or fourth year as Batman?
I would think that if they were to do a court of owls story that would be more of a third movie or hell even fourth movie considering that would be a massive reveal for the second movie, where else would it go from there? Since Reeve has stated it would be a trilogy meaning three they need to ramp up the third movie more and I think a hush and owls story would be A great grand finale rather than a middle section
If James Gunn's Superman and Batman: Brave and the Bold flop while Matt Reeves's The Batman Part II succeeds at the box office, I could see Matt Reeves stepping in as the CEO of DC Studios if he wanted to. Imagine Matt Reeves's take on a young Superman alongside an experienced Robert Pattinson Batman. It might not be everyone's desire, but I believe it has the potential to work. This is purely speculative, as I hope for the success of James Gunn's vision for the DCEU.
I would like to have film 2 setting up history for the court of owl's for film 3, with this film following on from Penguin who hears whispers of the myth of the court to set up that show's next outing, and laying down back story for Harvey including old Gotham family's history's. Plus including Slaughter Swamp and using Solomon Grundy as the first tool in this film before using a Talon in film 3 . This film I would do a random killer as a Main villain like Holiday +maybe a Deadman Easter Egg ?
Based on those comments I'd say we'll get there but they will cross the medical field with Freeze, Strange and other twisted experiments first. We saw the operating table and we know Strong is in the cast so its likely well see characters from the medical field with more easter Owl eggs. Then they'll connect it all to the Orphanage , Arkham and the whole "Circus of Strange" that is Gotham and introduce Grayson at the end.
I thought court of owls would be a great entry for the Batman 2. Tons of room for mystery and detective work and opportunity to spend more time as Bruce or at least Bruce outside of the suit.
I’m sad it’s not part of the dcu but at same time having a grounded separate world is fun and cool when you feel like something new , whilst having the fantastical world
I agree on the Hush AND court of owls theory. I think that riddler Halloween card says it all. A skeleton (dead man) *hush*ing you and pointing to an owl.
After Matt's comments, I really do think The Court of Owls will be one of the main antagonists of the film. Also, it seems like the Penguin will have a big important moment at the beginning of the movie, much like he was a big part of the second act of the first film. However, I still think that there will be another big villain. The Court could not be the main antagonists. I think the Wayne and Arkham families, the foundation families of Gotham, were corrupted and part of the Court of Owls, and Martha and Thomas were trying to change that for the better.
If they did this, connecting the orphans with the Court would be a great opportunity to introduce Dick Grayson.
Dick Grayson should be for the DCU
@Phantomiam if we can have two Batmen at the same time, why can't we also have two Dick Grayson's? One starting out by the end of this film, and one being Nightwing for a few years now.
It makes you think, right?! Like, what if…The Court of Owls had the Grayson family killed as sort of Dick’s initiation into the group. Just fan theory.
@@PhantomiamYoung Grayson for The Batman universe and Nightwing for DCU, simple

Thank you so so so much Kaleirrion, appreciate this a lot!!
The Court of Owls and Hush are my predictions as to who the next villians will be in The Batman 2.
i'd like that cuz it's something different. i love joker but he been used a lot
That be so lame. Just had Owls in animated and Hush in game.
One of the most massive Rogue Galleries, has much stronger stories than Court of Owls
I’m hoping for the league of assassin’s
It would not be easy to introduce a character like Hush naturally into this world, especially considering that Thomas Elliot hasn't been established yet either. Unless they change his identity/give him an actual good motivation, he's gonna suck bad.
I want Scarecrow. The Batman was already a thriller, but imagine Scarecrow as the main villain? He is meant for this universe.
Totally agree
I do actually think scarecrow could fit a “deeper corruption” narrative, I mean look at how he was in Batman begins
I just hope there is a lot of snow. At this point i have given up on heart of ice, but snowy envoirement with their cinematography would still be great
It could still happen. Maybe the second one could be Mr. Freeze and the last one be Court of Owls
@moviebuff9278 yes. I'd like to see Mr. Freeze and the Joker in some snow. Penguin fits that too. Then the court of owls for the final movie.
You’ll be happy
Boba, I don't think the sequel will pertain to the court of owls. If anything, I think it will follow up on the thread from the first with Bruce being an Arkham and Martha being a patient. I think the corruption of Arkham will be front and center. However, i don't think The Court Of Owls is out of the question. I would like to see them built up and then tackled in a final "The Batman" film. Pattinson is just too young in the series to confront the court. As a side note, the whole scene with the DA seems to hint at the court, but it's moreso likely about the mob
Edit:Damn never mind Boba, I guess I should watch the whole video 😅
Someone with a clear mind. Arkham and the Drops are clearly where the corruption lies
it really doesn't matter that much when Batman faces the Court imo. It more or less serves the same function either way. Still, I think its because Matt says "deeper" corruption that makes people think the court. The Arkham thing would just be sort of adjacent corruption I guess.
"It's so much bigger than you could ever imagine. It's the whole system"
Could be Hugo Strange and underground corruption of Arkham Asylum. Which would be fun. And then save Talon and Court for Brave and the Bold?
As a DC writer I really LOVE that idea Hugo in Arkham!
Gil: The whole system!
I cover all of 'the signs' in this video, and if they really had anything to them imo.
@@BobaTalks My bad man. I got like a minute into the video and thought about this lol. Love the vids either way😂

GOLLY
Thank you so much Brutal, as always bro. It is, I felt so good when we got this news because it sent me right back to 2020+ - As it's the first real stuff we've gotten in a long, long time!
@@BobaTalks def man, it really sends up back & it’s crazy that it’s been that long ago since we’ve gotten news for another Batman film from Matt.
Yes! I've been waiting to see you talk about all this!!
And a potential part lll exploring court corruption with ties to Arkham Asylum.
i like this theory a lot
😂😂😂😂 the intro killing me bruh
So ultimately, I do think the #1 seed is the Owl on the card.
I need four Batman movies because Matt reeves gets it ,
im js guessing here but since we’re diving into more corruption in gotham could the villian also be anarky if not the court of owls?
I feel like Court of Owls should be a slow burn reveal... Over a few movies at least.
Feels so good to be a part of this journey on the lead up to The Batman part 2! 😬 love the series and content in general Boba! 👍🏼
I believe one seed is Selina Kyle. In the film she is a Mary Sue with fighting and stealth skills way beyond what she should have in her situation. I think she could have been trained or affiliated with the court somehow.
I would prefer Hush instead of the Court of Owls, you need the Bat family for that, save the Court of Owls for The Brave and the Bold Batman movie.
It could also be Raj Al Gul and the League of Shadows
Court of Owls with Hush taking the role of Lincoln March, is my prediction
Actually, I thought the Riddler was killing corrupt political officials because he was trying to expose the Court of Owls, and he would die with the court, making him look like a villain.
During the scene where Batman is helping the DA answer riddles, the following conversation takes place:
Colson: “I have family, people that I love, they’ll kill them too.”
Batman: “who will?!”
Colson: “the people are watching!”
Batman: “what people?!”
Colson: “it’s SO much bigger than you can imagine. It’s the whole system!”
Now Colson could’ve just been referring to Carmine and everyone else but this could’ve also been one of those “seeds” for the court of owls
We get into exactly this in the vid 😉
Waynes, Arkhams, Court of owls. Probably going to find out the reason the waynes even started renewal is because the court was trying to do something to take all the money away from the people who needed it and it was their way of trying to combat them without outing them.
I think the "seeds" that Reeves is referencing is more so things that riddler started revealing but maybe was just scratching the surface.
I think Edward elliot maybe was finding out more than he thought and Thomas Wasyne was genuinely concerned for Edward and wanted to protect him from finding out too much. And that coverup was the beginning of the court of owls forming
Also as far as I understand Reeves doesnt say that the main focal point of the movie is going to be the discovery of this very deep corruption but rather that he will continue to discover it in the second part. Or at least thats how i understand it
EDIT: Also the warden from arkham i bet will be a part of the corruption and potentially the court
im not a fan of the court tbh. they’re cool in the comics, but for a big feature film i would prefer a singular main antagonist with another side antagonist, like they did in the first film with riddler and penguin primarily (even though carmine falcone is technically included, i don’t really see him as a rogues gallery villain per se)
something like scarecrow and hush, or freeze and clayface for the second film. it’s just more cinematic that way. the whole court of owls just doesn’t have that same cinematic punch that one individual and more recognisable big bad would imo.
@@lilstupidahhboy5155 i also think that while the court of owls is by no means a weak storyline, batmans rogues are packed with the most iconic out of any superhero imo.
there are so many stronger options to explore with some of the more recognisable rogues. scarecrow, freeze, bane, joker, two face etc are just too good to pass up on for another detective noir about corruption, that’s been touched on enough i feel
especially considering some of them like freeze haven’t even had a proper film adaptation yet
Falcone was the secondary villain behind riddler
Reeves loves the idea of the established rogues gallery and it’s about time we see that in the Batman movies imagine all the main rogues return in the third film as we see the transition from the families to the freaks
Scarecrow, hush, mr freeze, and court of owls hell yeah 🥶🥶🦉🦉🐦⬛🐦⬛💀💀
How will Mr. Freeze work in Matt's grounded universe?
From what we have i have some thoughts:
1. (Side note: If penguin remains the kingpin for a while, knowing who he is, he wouldn't be happy to learn that he isn't as much in control as he thinks)
I know a few people are disappointed that Matt Reeves is sticking to his guns on the “realism” aspect of his Batman… but there’s still a plethora of villains we could see him adapt in his else-worlds universe:
.
- The Court of Owls (and Talon)
- Professor Pyg
- Two-Face
- Deathstroke
- Hush
- Clayface (OG wax mask version)
- Anarchy
- Zsasz
- The Ventriloquist and Scarface
- Black Mask
- Scarecrow (realistic drugs replacing his “fear toxin”)
- Deadshot
- Hugo Strange
- Bane (as a large mercenary for hire… sadly without his signature venom)
- Harley Quinn
- Killer Croc (they could do the tragic skin condition Story)
- Firefly
- The Great White Shark
- Calendar Man
RIP to the thought of us getting his more fantastical rogues like:
- Poison Ivy
- Mr Freeze
- Killer Croc (as a giant crocodile man)
- Man Bat
- Solomon Grundy
- Bane (with his Toxin)
- Clayface (being a huge shapeshifting monster)
- Mad Hatter
- Ra’s al Ghul (unless he wants to redo the realistic Ra’s from Nolan’s Batman Begins)
Thankyou,I said clayface.I want him very badly in this batman installment by Matt revees
You have my respect my man. You are die hard batman fan like me
I mean having it be revealed that maybe even Falcone was an agent of the court (not a proper member, but a puppet for them) would be a cool angle, especially if it ties directly into him being used to possibly take out Thomas Wayne who maybe was going to expose The Court.
I honestly think Court of Owls should be for the DCU Batman
Orphans being raised as talon assassins is brilliant. I hope they go this route 🤞🏾🤞🏾
I love how rotten this version of Gotham is.
i realy like the angle that reeves is going, because it feels like a natural progression of where batman should go...in the first film he learned that vengence wont change the past and people need hope, but he also learned going around gotham and punching criminals will not save the city,so remember, the thing that created riddler was the corruption in renewal, and it isnt like, falcone is dead ,corruption is over, and it isnt like falcone started all the problems with gotham,so maybe we will see batman investigating where all this misery truly started, and he investigates not just the history of corruption in gotham, but the history of gotham it self, and that is how he finds out there is a source to all of this caos that is gotham, also another seed i think is riddler calling the waynes and the arkhams the "gotham founding families" maybe we will learn more secrets of the arkham family and how they might be the responsible for all this and the source, they being court of owls or not
Back when the first movie came out I was really hopeful that this universe would tackle the Court of Owls because I really think a more grounded take on the concept is exactly what it needs, that aside from the fact that I just sincerely believe it'd fit into this world.
Especially with a Bruce who might now be starting to move towards a more philanthropist public image, It'd be interesting to see The Court try and pull him into their fold.
The Court of Owls always seemed really hokey to me compared to the OLDER AND BETTER Batman villains.
Agreed, it’s just a bit too out there for a grounded Batman in my opinion
@@amasvodkais just a bunch of rich corrupt family members give us freeze clayface the ventriloquist some OG villians
*Interesting!* 😉 *Thanks for the new video,**#BobaTalks**!* *Well, we'll see what Matt Reeves chooses for The Batman: Part 2!* *My choice candidate would be the Charles Dante version of the villain, Spellbinder but you like you saud, we shall have to wait abd see for more information as well have faith on Matt Reeve's plan for The Batman 2!* 🤗 🦇
the Court of Owls is a pretty campy concept. seems like a dangerous choice without some buildup.
Outstanding analysis! The sequel has the potential be a more enlightening & deeper story than the predecessor
PERFECT TIMING BRO I JUST RE-READ THE COURT COMICS
Bathype is back baby
Edit: well it was like a week ago that I read it but you know
I would love to see the court of owls.
It could be the league of shadows
I got some Batman part 2 theories that you could talk about in a video.
Scarecrow is responsible for Martha losing her mind while at Arkham, this in turns creates personal conflict between Bruce and Crane. Would be a great subplot to explore. I really think someone like Bill Skarsgard could be great as scarecrow.
Court of Owls are responsible for Scarecrow being born and he’s a porn in their big plan? Similar to what happened in Batman Begins with Scarecrow working for Ra’s Al Ghul.
Hugo Strange is part of the Owls and is working closely with them?
Ewan Mitchell or Jack Gleeson would be much better as Scarecrow than boring Bill Skarsgard.
I really enjoy your channel. Not much to add lol.
I don’t think it’ll work
Now scarecrow or Freeze… those are interesting villains with entertaining abilities that could be realistic and challenge Batman on different levels.
Yeah Boba, I'm gunna need you to never do that "yes, yes, yes" followed by that clip of Pattinson Batman ever again 😂😂😂
I’m glad for this news Boba ❤
The Court of Owls is interesting but how will he bring them down alone? In the comics it took the entire Bat Family on deck to deal with them. It would be nice if they teased they exist of he begins seeing signs of them, as it stands they have a bigger organization and reach than he has right now and he is only in his what third or fourth year as Batman?
I would love to see the Court, but I hope they build up to them on the second movie, and really have the Court in part 3
I wish Sir Matt Reeves will do more movies including Batman's villains standalone like The Penguin.
Court of Owls would be the BEST story as what it is in the comics.
Then they'll connect it all to the Orphanage , Arkham and the whole "Circus of Strange" that is Gotham and introduce Grayson at the end.
it's quite obvious that falcon'e is part of the court of owls which is a predatory prey of THE BATMAN!
Or….hopefully but unlikely an actually interesting secret society. I’ll take it either way but I really just couldn’t care less about the court.
We are back. This is the actual first episode of The Batman Part II videos 💪🏻
One thing I hope they do, if The Court is adapted, is they reveal that the Court offed the Wayne's!
00:03 - We get the white eyes Batman in that clip for half a second when they roll back 😂
Since the first "The Batman" trailer, this is the only page I'll watch pertaining to Matt Reeves The Batman.
