Just used a sauerkraut can to reconnect the exhaust pipe to the muffler on my Civic. Didn't have enough bite left on the muffler opening to get the can clamped onto it, so I inserted most of the can into the muffler and then used the hose bands to tighten the other end of the can onto the exhaust pipe. Prior to this I had tried to find a band clamp to make a more solid and lasting connection, but the one that I had bought for a stock Honda was way too big. Then I realized that my car previously had a muffler replaced and I didn't know that the shop used a generic pipe 1 5/8" OD pipe instead of the Honda's standard 2.25" OD pipe. Can't find any band clamps that small, so on went the sauerkraut can.
Go on man, awesome job! Keeping a car running is no joke and costs plenty, so anything you can do to avoid getting ripped off at a garage or repair centre, is a necessary step. I love how cracked that windscreen is too....and you can still drive legally? You'd never get away with that in the UK, but thats why I love America (one of the reasons anyway). From state to state, you never quite know what the laws are gonna be...lol..😅. I'm about to repair my exhaust using a similar method to yourself. One thing I would advise when you attempt it next time, try using some exhaust sealant/repair paste and apply it to those ends, so you're sealing up the gaps and making it airtight. That'll quieten down the thing a whole heap and should make it a much more professional repair. But what you did, is cool improvisation and that must be applauded! Great job man!
@@adambishop5739 In iowa i have had that window cracked like that for a good 8 years and never had any issues being stopped. I drove it to oklahoma in the spring of last year and got a fix it ticken and finally got it replaced. I'm going on 15 years with this car now and i don't want to put too much into it cuz the car is probably only worth $1000. It runs so i'm gonna keep driving it! Haha i had ended up putting exaust tape around the exaust amd it helped with the noise a little. If i wasn't planning on going to the philippines in a couple years i would get a newer car but don't want to buy one and then leave it sit here. Hope you got something worked out on your exaust! 🙂
Need to do the same and was searching for ideas and I think I'm going to give this a try. I'm going to give it a good coating with J.B. Weld Extreme Heat before I put the can on to add a little more strength and fill in any gaps. Thanks for the idea.
I got pulled over for ky exhaust being to loud, and rightfully so. My brother in law and professionally fix it for free but with work and kids it's hard for is to find time so until then i think I'm going to try this
High temperature silicone chalk in a tube under a Bud Light can , steel can ,; using a chalking gun to squeeze out a generous amount of material ,then clamping may be helpful ... Clean the pipe of dirt and rust where needed .... 😊
So, you didn’t have to do anything to re-mount it, even though it was hanging down like that? Shouldn’t you mount it so it doesn’t just fall back down again? Just wondering. Or does the can connecting it to the pipe make it secure enough?
Once it is hooked up it holds in place. It hangs down due to it not beimg connected. This is just a temperary solution but sometimes can last awhile. A few years before i had paid $500 to have those flex things replace and were rusted out again in just 2-3 years so im doing this instead.
My pit bike endcan couldn’t be clamped as the frame is “homemade” so i put a coke can over the broken endcan and glued it. It’s never failed me years later 😂😂😂😂
for sure, I was debating on at least two but just wanted to get it done cuz it was loud!! haha I drove it all the way back from Mexico City with it off like that!! lol :)
If the can fails, you can probably buy a flexpipe made for this specific car for not a lot of money. (I assume it's a flexpipe since it's a VW.) On an old car, I'd be happy enough with a can. :-)
WASTE OF TIME. IT WILL BREAK FASTER. USE THE CORRECT PARTS.( FLEX BRAIDED PIPE ) THAT AREA MOVED WHEN YOU HIT A BUMPS OR HOLES. THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE TO USE THE RIGHT PARTS.😮😮

My dad broke a throttle cable out in the boonies years ago and cut a length of wire from a farmers fence and rigged it to work.
YOU WORK VERY FAST
Clamps work for a period of ones they get hot they will break on you but for a quick fix until you get it at muffler shop
THANKS A LOT I NEED A TEMPORARY FIX FOR MY 06 CAMRY

Hey how did it work??
Very creative good job appreciate

If he has a weilder it will take about 30 min and will last longer!

Wonderful job!!❤
KEEP SOME OLD SCHOOL COAT HANGERS METAL ONES THAT IS
Love you dude !!💯🔥💙

I used a coke can, then my daughter hit a curb, good fix.
Sometimes hitting a curb will for sure knock a muffler loose!! Haha
good idea
Would zip ties work as well? My muffler isn't attached to the exhaust pipe and there was a shit ton of tape on it
Zip ties would probably melt.
@@thatslumlordlife I figured
Metal zip ties would probably work. It might be hard to get them tight enough though.
@daerth4423 Thank you man

Should of used 3 cans and make last 3 times as long and stager the cuts

I think all the auto parts stores have them. I was just fine with a can! 🤣
Put it on a 97 Jeep till I got the cheese to fix it

I was thinking of wrapping mine with Rockwool and then a can with clamps.
I think the rockwool would help keep the noise down! Just keep in mind sometimes these cheap fixes don't last long and sometimes they do! 🙂
@@thatslumlordlife I TOTALLY AGREE. :)
