Good morning! So you literally used like a paint bucket? Just trying to be clear because I’m looking to start tomatoes on my deck the exact same way. Thanks in advance!
I enjoyed your good advice and enthusiastic delivery, thank you👍 I grow beefsteak tomatoes from seed here in my veg patch in the county of Shropshire UK. My favourite variety is Costoluto Di Parma, it’s an Italian variety that’s deeply ribbed (Costoluto means ‘ribbed’ in Italian). I grow my beefsteak’s in a poly tunnel, as we’re in zone 8 with a short season and the tunnel allows those extra weeks of growth so that those big tomatoes can ripen aplenty. I’ve grafted some this year onto Submarine root stock. I found it to be an interesting but easy process and I’m hoping it brings even better results.
Beefsteaks are my favorite. I have the packet of America Seeds. I have no prior experience and you seem to know your stuff. Watching more now and looking forward to new vids.
Man! That was a WEALTH of information on exactly what I want to know about, Beefsteak Tomatoes! You have a gift my friend. Really a lot of great detail from seed to seedling to plant and everything else, even how to seed up for next year. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your insight! Subscribing now! Have a great summer.
This is my first year of growing beefsteak's and I have checked out a ton of UA-camr's channels to learn more about them. This video is by far the most informative and easy to understand. I subbed and plan on checking out the rest of the channel. Thanks dude🤙
Thank You! Great Video with good information. I purchased some Beef Steak Tomato plants this past weekend and will be planting them in a container tomorrow. Appreciate your tips and helpful video/advice.
I planted my beefsteak seeds a week before winter solstice, southern hemisphere, sub tropical, 4 days to germinate, now there is two weeks until spring arrives, I love tomatoes!
Good informative video Jay. Our family also grow BeefSteak tomatoes here in Michigan. This is going to be our first year starting all the veggies from seeds.
Wow thank you brother! As a newbie this was more, way more knowledge than expected. But not so much or too fast to grasp either. Jackpot! I can see myself trying to seed for the first time next year. Much love
I love your video. My first year gardening in pots&grow bags. Squash&beefsteak tomatoes started out good but when this Florida heat&sun locked in my plants began to die down. Still have tomatoes but plants don't look good. Tomatoes were growing&bursting open when red&green. Can plants be revived, can I cut them down for possible reproduction? What would u recommend?
Once plants begin to bloom and produce pruning is rarely beneficial. Possibly a mild fertilize or a small amount of calcium. When growing in containers soil can be depleted quickly of nutrients. Heat is brutal this year
New sub here. I've been teaching myself to grow vegetables this year in s. Tx. I start everything from seed indoors and have battled everything from drought to pests and now lots of daily showers. My beefsteak tomatoes have only started to produce fruit within the 3 weeks. I want to ask about the indoor grow light you mentioned in this video? What kind is it and where do I find it please? I'd like to grow some things indoors but haven't been able to find affordable lights. Thank you so much in advance.
I didn't know that beefsteaks come in different varieties; I thought beefsteak WAS the variety. And I didn't know there were both determinate and indeterminate varieties. So I don't know if they will vine & grow 10' tall, or stay short & manageable 😢.
Rookie raise bed farmer here , my beefsteak seedlings are lagging behind my cherry tomatoes... the Beefsteaks have yet to get their "true leaves" (day 36) ... are they slow performers ?
@@tylerlawing7845 ... well a couple of them look healthy and have blooms on them ... but not sure if they'll produce fruit... I think it was do to sitting the Humidity Dome out in too cool of Temps. probably stunted they growth !
This is my first year doing beefsteak tomatoes. I container garden as well. Last year was cherry tomatoes. I had like 12 containers full of them. I have to step my water and fertilizer game up. How often should I fertilize beefsteaks?
Hi thank you for this video !! I thought i planted tomato plants, but they never grew. The vines were prickly and would stick to my skin and scratch me, can you confirm if these are beefsteak tomato vines??? I planted them in April from seed and just cut them and took them out the garden.
Thank you. I just retired from the military. They really did not let us do gardens on base. I’m putting in a 30 foot greenhouse next week. I picked up a lot from this video for our tomato’s. Thank you! 👌🏻
Ok so my roma are fine. MY BEEFSTEAK AREN'T BLOOMING 😔😔😔😔 . Leaves are great. Plant is growing. Gets plenty of sun and water. Exactly as my Roma. I have moved the BEEFSTEAK pot a few times ...is that disruptive??? I've only moved it about 7 times since May. It's now June 30th. HELP!!!
@@colonyhillshomestead4683 I water them 3 times a week. They get a lot of sun and I really put fertilizer in may when I planted them…my guess is the fertilizer. But my romas are fine. Did I move my pot too much??
man this is just basic tomato plant knowledge, i was hoping for some tips like on different beefsteak varieties that produce at different times of the year, prolific, flavor varieties, plant vigor etc
@@colonyhillshomestead4683 yeah i get it, and i know your work helps a lot of people. i just did a specific search for varieties and production time of the year and my search pulled this up as the first result and i didnt see what i searched so i was confused
Great tip about collecting the seeds 👍
Doing a video next on seed collection!
Thanks for shouting out my Lowe’s bucket tomatoes dad! Haha
You did a great job!!
Good morning! So you literally used like a paint bucket? Just trying to be clear because I’m looking to start tomatoes on my deck the exact same way. Thanks in advance!
Fyi it absolutely worked I officially have tomatoes growing on my deck in a bucket.
@Danielle Myers Not sure if it helps a year later, but basically any 5 gallon bucket will work.
Just gotta make sure it's got plenty of drainage
Good advice in these of darkest days.
Thanks yes I can relate
Great information, thank you

It’s a different satisfactory feel when you do it from seeds.
Thank you! I was trying to learn how to get the seeds for next year.

I'm going to do it, too.
Just what I needed thanks
Thank you!!
I love it easy and simple ways that's what I'm talking bout🤙
Yessss
Tell me after growing that variety can I used there seeds to get the same variety as them
Heirloom varieties can be harvested for seeds and used to grow same tomatoes year after year
Dude this is great!!
Thanks
I only have small garden plot and tall tomatoes have to go in the back, so I guess I'll have to rotate my soil.
Add calcium
Earned a subscriber buddy
Appreciate that !
excellent video thanks

What if you’re doing raised beds? Do you still have to rotate your maters?
Amend your soil yearly
Mine are getting really big but they have a weird shape and are splitting. Don't know why.
You must water them on schedule

When do you start to sow the seeds in your green house
I will begin some things next weekend
Where from
Northern California
I intend to start mine this weekend some hydroponically and some in soil.
Is that a Rosebud? I have the same exact tree in my backyard. Same exact flowers in the spring.
I’ll have to review the video
thanks you so much!
Thank you!

I grow an heirloom variety that is indeterminate and mine literally will get crazy tall but I prune them to stay less than 5 or 6 feet
First time with beef steak tomatoes has alot of sun here an water
Enjoy!
Where can I find a $2.50 Led light?
At the time that video was made you could get a grow bulb for that at Lowes. Probably not anymore
Rookie raise bed farmer here , my beefsteak seedlings are lagging behind my cherry tomatoes... the Beefsteaks have yet to get their "true leaves" (day 36) ... are they slow performers ?
They a a bit slower at this stage allot is going on to ensure a very sturdy stem/plant

If I'm growing in 4x8 raised beds, can I grow them year after year if I'm amending the soil?
Yes, if you are adding new compost and the mineral requirements
Thank you!
They do great in buckets but you have to feed them. The only nutrients they get in a container is what you provide.
Yes allot of folks don’t realize ya don’t need dirt to grow anything it’s just a good avail medium!
This is my first year doing beefsteak tomatoes. I container garden as well. Last year was cherry tomatoes. I had like 12 containers full of them. I have to step my water and fertilizer game up.
How often should I fertilize beefsteaks?
It’ll be dependent on soil used. I use compost in my garden and compost tea from quail manure. So I normally fertilize about every 3 weeks. Good luck!

Ok so there are several reason why this may occur too much heat , lack of sunlight , too much nitrogen/fertilizer and lack of water
@@colonyhillshomestead4683 I water them 3 times a week. They get a lot of sun and I really put fertilizer in may when I planted them…my guess is the fertilizer. But my romas are fine. Did I move my pot too much??
I paid $2.99 for a SINGLE Beefsteak seedling in Baltimore . Germinating by seed saves allot of the ole doe-ray-me!!!
Right. In the beginning I paid about two bucks for seed and now I use my own. It’s ridiculous
Hi my beefsteak tomatoes are not producing any tomatoes, and the stems are very spikey am I doing something wrong?
