As an adult I have been planting for 45 years. Starting my own seeds almost this whole time! Love the next few months here because planting seeds begins then moving them into garden. Been growing tomatoes 20 years. I use an old dishwasher to start my seeds. It has a insulated blanket around it. Works great if your room temps are low. I use 2 LED Bright Stik 16-watt 1520-Lumen Light Bulbs and the two bulbs keep the inside above 70. Light schedule is, 24/7 for 3-4 days after sprouting. Then I do lights on at 11pm, morning placement in window for 4.5 hrs of direct sunlight, and back to darkness at 4pm.
I have 2 Roma plants that I didn't get planted last season. I planted them in reused plastic containers from cottage cheese with a hole in the bottom for drainage. I wasn't sure they would make it, but now they are growing like crazy. They went from 2 inches to over a foot tall in a few weeks. I was surprised and impressed. They did require much more water as some of the leaves started drying and dying. I hope they will last 2 + months and I will get the biggest and earliest tomato harvest ever. Great video Brian! I start a little differently but your system will work great. May the Lord keep blessing you and yours.
Hi from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹, I have been gardening for over 30 years, home gardening but have learnt more through using You Tube for the past 4 years. Really focused, it is a long and rewarding process over the years. Started gardening with my mom.
I hear you, brother! I began my gardening journey over 50 yrs ago when my grandfather gave me a bucket of dirt and a handful of seeds and he told me,"With these few items, soil, seed, water and care, you can feed your family and you will never go hungry." He lived through the depression of the 1930's and through WW2 when gardening was not merely a hobby, it was a necessity. The message sticks with me to this day.
The best info I liked about this video is you started your seeds in a good size container!!!! No transplanting until it gets hardened off and into the ground!!!! It seems like most of the garden sites on UA-cam have you starting your seeds in a tray of anywhere from 12 or more planting trays then you have to transplant so many times until you get them in the ground. Thank you thank you thank you👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙀👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video! I stack the red cups and use a drill to put holes in the bottom a bunch at a time. Credit to Roots and Refuge for the idea. My parents gardened, and this will be my eighth year gardening as an adult. Last year, I fed my tomato addiction with over 100 plants. I shared the crop, but no, that was not too many.
Hello, here from Lynnwood Washington. Been growing tomatoes since 1974 - my 50th year! I still like to hear any tips to gardening…never too old to learn something new. 😊
I will throw in one tip then for cutting those little holes he suggested in the cups for drainage. I have to do 40+ cups so instead of cutting each one by scissors, I stock the 40 cups on top of each other, use my drill to put 4 holes through the bottom all 40 at once, and 20 seconds later, they are good to go. Been doing this for years
I usually start mine early to mid March. Depends on the season when I put them out of course . Last year they didn’t go in the garden until mid June. @@badmotherhumper
I assisted my parents growing huge gardens when I was 4. We children each were given 4ft x4ft square of our own to plant whatever we wanted. This was all preserved for our winter food. I grew lots of tomatoes in my own garden from 1974 until the present balcony garden as I am 73. I propagate my own seeds, the tomatoes are delicious!
You got this Christy! Tomatoes are really aggressive growers, so if you know the basics regarding plants in general, your good. Just watch or read as much as possible regarding Tomatoe plants just for having options and ideas in mind. Do you have determinate or indeterminate seeds or plants? Know the difference as I didn't my first year. They can get big and you can grow more as a single vine or more bushy with many vines depending on your space. Just remember even failing here and there is a great teacher and it's always a learning experience. It's all in good fun. Namaste, blessings and infinite bounty in your harvests!!
Thanks for the tips. I don't usually party and on the rare occasion I do, I leave early. Without even saying goodbye. It may be awkward for me to collect everyone's cup before they've even finished their drinks but if that's what I have to do for a successful tomato crop, I'll do it. Wish me luck!
@user-nx6ec7su4p You don't have to go to a party or collect used cups. You can simply purchase a sleeve of them in any store or online. Yes if you have access to cups that were already used then that would keep them out of the landfill but it's okay if you need to buy a pack. Don't let the lack of being a partier hinder you from doing this.
I am in North Carolina and am 75, and have been gardening since I was bout 4! And have been living alone since my husband passed away in 2008. I have always had a garden my whole life. I-still do! I started planting tomatoes in red solo cups this year because of your videos! I have 25 tomatoes germinated right now in March. I also did 76 gallon jugs of winter sowing. Some of them are in the ground right now.

Been gardening over 50 years. I have used Brians tomato growing methods for the last3-4 years. I sow abot100 plants and when they are big enough I give them away. It's exciting to meet new gardeners every year and also visit with some of the returning gardeners. This year will be a much smaller batch as I am traveling right in the middle of tomato starting and planting!
Minnesota gardener here. All year long I save the large coffee cups from restaurant take-outs. I use a soldering gun to burn holes near the bottom of the cups. I like the idea of using a clear cup as a second cup to guage water. I'm gonna do that this time! Thanks Brian!
My coworkers are all in on my little clear cup collection. Whenever they get cold Starbucks drinks (we have a Starbucks in the office), they bring me their cup! In exchange, they get either a basil plant or produce during the season. :)
Ive been starting all my veggies in the house for a while now. I also have a 4x2 tent in the house that i grow cannabis in all year. Ive always used just cheap grow lights from amazon which did the job and i usually got plenty of seedlings for the garden. Seedlings only need about 200-300 lux. Last year i used an extra light with adjustable knob from my indoor grow which is alot more intense. My veggie seedlings got so big so fast under that light i had to pot up 4x before i could put them out. I had small peppers and tomatoes on when i planted them. Its unbelievable how much money your save starting your own seeds. I love how every year i learn something new even after all these years. Theres always something that i think how have i not heard about this?!lol. Thank you for all your videos
Hi Bryan, I'm Michelle, and I currently live in Spokane, Washington. I've been back to gardening for the last 6 years. I was raised by gardeners, so gardening has been a part of my life on and off since I was very small. I've always enjoyed having my hands and feet make contact with our earth but when my 21 year old son died unexpectedly a few years ago, gardening became a much needed lifeline. The music you use in some of your videos also provides a sense of connection which has been a great comfort. Thank you for all you do, and for being you! 🙏
My mama lost my brother at 22. Super unexpected. We talk about him all the time. Its been 9 years. Now that I'm a mama I know all the pain I endured does not compare to being the mom. I'm glad u found something that helps you. Sending u love. ❤
I'm 62, and I've been growing tomatoes since I was around 8 years old. I bought a dime store tomato seedling that was about to die and planted it next to the air conditioner. It grew like Jack's beanstalk. I had to get a ladder and attach it to the eve of the house. Got just buckets of tomatoes. I've been hooked ever since.
I planted an almost empty net sack of onions going bad from the fridge into a hole from a stump removal and in a few years those onions got big as basketballs from the water and time growing . The green onion top got fat as wood fencepost and 8 feet tall with a giat white onion flower on top and cars would stop run over and touch it and yell back at their car " yeah . Its real ".😊
I told a story in one of your other videos about my tomato growing experience. I started at a young age (7 or 8) and was taught what to do by a local farmer. I was hooked and have always grown tomatoes when I could. I’m 66 now and this past year grew more tomatoes than ever. Whatever I didn’t eat was canned. I’ve never had a lot of luck growing from seed but it’s a new year and I’m going to try again.
This video covers all the useful tomato growing hacks known to man. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. I have been growing tomatoes in my backyard over 40 years and thanks to you, I keep learning new tricks.

I live in the Southern Golan Heights, Israel, and have been growing Tomatoes for years. The summers are hot and dry, but humid and cool nights This is my first year growing in raised beds. Learning new stuff every season, thank you.
I’m from Vancouver Island, Canada 🇨🇦 I’ve been growing seriously for 4 years so pretty new. Watch tons of your videos! 😍 To be safe I always pour boiling water over my soil to kill knats. Love the double cup method I struggle with hardening the plants off. Thank you Brian and Emily! ❤❤
Thank you for the information. I'm in Oregon. I have been growing tomatoes on and off forr about 35 years. This year I'm going to being planting tomatoes and peppers in containers. The reason is my garden is now a rose and flower garden.
Brilliant for the double cup method! I will definitely be trying it, especially for the watering trick. Knowing when to water both my tomatoes and my peppers have been my biggest challenge.
I love this new video! Used your previous video to grow my tomatoes last year (my 3rd year growing) and I harvested enough tomatoes for my family to eat all summer and canned 48 pints of diced tomatoes, AND I only had 10 plants. But most of all I love the trench method as some of my beds are also shallow. Thank you!
I started growing tomatoes with you back in 2020 when I lived on the CA Central Coast. I purchased what is now my homestead in Arkansas last year, and am putting in my garden beds as soon as the ground warms up. I'm ready to get my tomato seeds planted so, as always, this is perfect timing!
Northeast Colorado... gardening for my 6th spring season this year. Last year I used the 2 cup method and it worked well. They need to be put in a tray or container to hold them up. I had issues with some toppling over... annoying. However, I do put a lot of pinholes at the bottom side of the cups to air prune. Works great! Usually I pour boiling water over the seed starter mix and/or microwave the moist soil to kill gnat eggs. The ONLY time I've had fungus gnats is when I overwintered rosemary plants and didn't change the soil before bringing them in. I knew better, too. Never again!
Interesting, I've never heard of air pruning - something to Google after this! Do you water from above or just water the bottom cup to encourage strong roots and avoid soaking? I would think seeds need from above but don't want to assume!
I've used this method for years. Use a solder iron for the holes. Faster and easier than scissors or even a drill. I do love your suggestion of using the clear cup. I will defiantly use that. Also, I used to use your baggie method for years. Then I found garden cloches at the Dollar Tree. Bought about 20 and use and re use them for 2 years now.
I saw this hack somewhere else but am giving it a shot this year for the first time. Someone mentioned placing the square bottomed 18 oz cup into a round bottomed 18 oz cup. I’ll try to add a photo. Thanks for the idea of the clear cup! I’ll be doing that for sure! I’m in Western Colorado and have grown tomatoes on and off for about 10 years. Some years have been great and others not so much.😜

Brian - you are such a GREAT teacher! Even though tI’ve been gardening since the dark ages, I loved every minute of this one and hope it goes viral just like the first!
By far the best video I have watched on s parting seeds. I don't have a lot of sunshine to successfully grow tomatoes, so to make up for this, I volunteer to pick tomatoes at my friend's greenhouse every Friday before market, so I can bring back as many as I like 😋 My friend also plants her tomato plants sideways to cover most of the stem to promote root development. I love helping her in the greenhous, I learn so much.
I'm from Maryland and this is my first year. Gardening always seemed to hard but i stumbled across your videos and they have really made me feel like there is a chance.😂
Chatham Virginia and following your videos last year, I had the best tomatoes I’ve had in a while. Have had gardens off and on for 40 years including while we lived in California with two growing seasons.
I like the clear cup idea! One of the 1st gardening videos I ever watched was your double red cup system years ago. I've been gardening around 50 years, i thought that was genious. Thats when I fell in love with you and your videos! Always something to learn with a garden. It's just amazing. Your new property gets more beautiful all the time, great work. 👍❤️👍 Going to see if you've got a video on pruning raspberries someplace. Very mild (30s😄) these days for February in Wisconsin 👍
I had wish my dishes. So I use solo cups. Then instead of wishing them, I rinse, stack and then poke holes 🕳 on bottoms to not use them again. Come spring, I have plenty to use for gardening. Most can be reusable, year after year. If they crack, I rip them up, to use as a plastic label marker. Some are ten years old at my house! Always have a party! Always have a mega stack ready to party.! I bring them to parties, so I can collect afterwards!
Hi Brian, thanks to you, I’ve been using your solo cup method here in Rhode Island for three years now and it’s my only way to start our tomatoes! Incredible results start to finish. Thank you so much for all of your videos.

Hi Brian, I live in central Texas and have been growing tomatoes and other veggies organically in my current location for about 6 years. Last year I had my first harvest!😁
Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly. I remember watching Joy of Gardening when I was in 4-H as a kid. They also showed laying the tomato plants down, which my mom had thought was an amazing idea! She started doing that and she thought her tomatoes came out better.
I use yogurt containers.Water them till it drips out the bottom holes.I use a mist to keep the new seedlings moist.Been doing this for over 20 years and the results are better than nursery bought plants. Watch the bottom holes for roots, then you can plant,Timeing is important.
I am from the island of Great Abaco in The Bahamas. I have grown tomatoes for 30 years but always purchased my seedlings, this year is my first for starting my seedling. I used the double cup but my inside cup was an organic paper cup, when planting out it was easy to remove the paper cup.
for just over 20yrs i have been experimenting with a technique that supercharges plants i start from seed. this process seems to work the best for fruits. tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, etc. are examples of plants that seem to benefit the most. the hypothesis fist came to me when i was using ripe bananas to ripen avocados that were rock hard. one night i dreamed a high speed film like dream of a fruit falling to the ground, rotting away, then new plant sprouting. that woke me up! and the experiments began. rotting fruit generate ethylene gas. it would make sense that fruits would take advantage of this gas. what i do is to place my seeds in open flat containers like plastic caps or trays. place them in a paper bag or cardboard box. place a ripe banana in it and close it up to avoid the gas getting blown off. i let it sit for a week or two. then plant. some varieties are so susceptible to this that you can see the difference as soon as it sprouts. seeds treated this way grow faster, are visibly more robust, larger, more fruitful, and more resistant to disease and pests. i have tested it for over 20yrs to eliminate other influences like weather, soil, disease and pest ebbs and flows, etc. the results are consistent. this even works on veggies and grains. try it our 🙂
Definitely going to try this. I’ll start with a control group and an experimental group to be able to compare the difference. Sp just to clarify, you expose the seeds to the gas for 1 or 2 weeks before putting them in the seed starting soil to germinate? Do I understand that correctly?
This video is a treasure trove of practical tips and innovative hacks for both novice and experienced gardeners aiming to achieve their best tomato season ever. Near Ft. Smith, Arkansas. This is my third year growing tomatoes from seed and the first using solo cups. I'm eager to see a difference in the tomato plants this year.
THIS WORKS! I used this technique for my tomatoes almost 7 weeks ago and my starts are now like the $7.99+ size at my local nursery (S NJ prices) , not the $3.99-$4.99 size I’d usually buy. I’d have them planted outside now but lots of rain and then high winds today made me wait another day so tomorrow they’ll go out permanently. My clear cup and red cups are different brands so it just so happens that the red cup does not fit perfectly to the bottom of the clear cup so no marble needed. When I thought I’d need to thin seedlings, I was pleasantly surprised to see that there were no weaker seedlings and the roots from each plant in the cup were all separate and hardly intermingled so I ended up basically doubling my initial planting goal. I had to prepare more cup setups for the bonus extras. I took that opportunity to also add a good potting soil w/compost to the cups to increase soil (Vermont Compost Fort Vee), since they only had a seed starting mix to begin. I used mini clip on fans on each shelf to strengthen the plants and my stems are so thick and strong. I fertilized with a slightly diluted fish emulsion occasionally when true leaves started growing. So happy I found this video just as I was about to start my tomatoes indoors.

I remember Mom in the 1960s putting soil in the kitchen oven to sterilize it. Vermont gardener here, growing for 45 years.
Hi from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹, I have been gardening for over 30 years, home gardening but have learnt more through using You Tube for the past 4 years. Really focused, it is a long and rewarding process over the years. Started gardening with my mom.
Do you all need to grow seedlings in the winter there 🏭👍
I hear you, brother!
Oklahoma growing tomatoes for 4 years 2nd year starting from seeds
Great videos
My first time gardening! I figured tomatoes would be a good place to start. Thanks for the tips and tricks!
Hello, here from Lynnwood Washington. Been growing tomatoes since 1974 - my 50th year! I still like to hear any tips to gardening…never too old to learn something new. 😊
Sounds great!
Been doing this for years
@sharlene When are you starting yours, and when do you start to harden off? I'm in southern Wa.
Most detailed tomato planting I’ve seen in 4 years of UA-cam gardening. Thanks, can’t wait to see how I do this year. Better I hope!
I'm Christy from Northeast Ohio.. this is the first year I am gardening and planting tomatos! Wish me luck!!!
Good luck 🍀 fingers crossed ❤
Good luck!
Read up on everything about growing tomatoes you can and good luck.
Good luck!!❤🍅
Thanks for the tips. I don't usually party and on the rare occasion I do, I leave early. Without even saying goodbye. It may be awkward for me to collect everyone's cup before they've even finished their drinks but if that's what I have to do for a successful tomato crop, I'll do it. Wish me luck!
🤣🤣 good luck
😅😅😅
Hi, Sonya here from Kyle TX. Grew tomatoes as a kid, then stopped gardening while raising my family and working as a nurse. I'm retired now and have gone all in for gardening. This will be my 3rd year and hope to get better and better.❤
Houston Texas gardener for years as a kid with my grandmother, now an adult I can appreciate it. Growing tomatoes for the first time in my own.
I do the same, but on a smaller scale. I start about 35 plants each of tomatoes, peppers, onions, etc and give most away.
I appreciate your very clear, step-by-step instructions.
I've used your tomato methods and you are right on. Running the grow lights at night is just brilliant! Cheaper electricity! Thanks.
Michelle I'm so sorry about your son. But I know of so many who have used gardening as a way to cope. I'm glad you find some comfort there. ❤️
My mama lost my brother at 22. Super unexpected. We talk about him all the time. Its been 9 years. Now that I'm a mama I know all the pain I endured does not compare to being the mom. I'm glad u found something that helps you. Sending u love. ❤
Waiting for 'false spring' to end here in Spokane Valley so we can plant outdoors is SO hard. LOL
Do you write poems as well Kitty?
I planted an almost empty net sack of onions going bad from the fridge into a hole from a stump removal and in a few years those onions got big as basketballs from the water and time growing .
The green onion top got fat as wood fencepost and 8 feet tall with a giat white onion flower on top and cars would stop run over and touch it and yell back at their car " yeah . Its real ".😊
Yep, gotta love the cheap stuff that busts & rules!👍
This world great for peppers, too. I did it last year, and it was a great success. Thanks for the reminder!
I'm John and I've been growing tomatoes from seeds since 2009. I enjoy your videos and appreciate your knowledge.
This is my third year and I owe my success to you!! I got started by watching all of your videos. Thank you!!
Thank YOU!
Thank you so much for the detailed instruction on growing tomatoes .
I've been growing tomatoes for at least 14 years, and today I learned some new stuff! Thanks!
I live in a small town outside rome. Been raising tomatoes in my garden for the last 20 years. Thanks for all your secrets!
s!
Pittsburgh, PA - gardening and growing tomatoes on and off for last 14 years. Last 3 years gardening has become an obsession.
I hear ya
Love how your videos are informative without sounding like a robot reading a script. Everything makes sense and retainable. Great tricks and tips too!
This video covers all the useful tomato growing hacks known to man. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. I have been growing tomatoes in my backyard over 40 years and thanks to you, I keep learning new tricks.
That is awesome!
I’ve enjoyed a green thumb for about 58 of my 62 years on this earth and I’d like to give you a thumbs up on your tutorial, very well explained and whatever you missed is ok because you covered just about everything else…….
I've been growing tomatoes for at least 40 years and starting my own seeds for the last 25. I've never used the solo cups, but I'm going to try that this year! Seems like a good idea and will keep me from having to repot up from starting them in cells. Thanks for your excellent videos!
California Central Coast here, been growing fruit and veggies for as long as I can remember so well over 70 years. I am going to give this a try.
Hello from Vickie in Somerset, Kentucky. I worked the garden with my mom and mamaw as a youngster but this is my 5th year gardening as an adult. Thanks for the videos. I really
enjoyed your book.
Wow! Thank you so much! This was so thorough. I love the half-cup method. That makes so much sense!
Salzburg, Austria here!!! My first year of planting!!! Very excited!!! Thank you for your videos. Really appreciate the advice and tips!!! 🤗🤗🤗
Best of luck!
Best video I've seen on the subject. Very straightforward and thorough. Thanks.
Im from the SF Bay Area and this will be my third year growing tomatoes from seed. I actually found your channel when looking for info on growing tomatoes in containers.
I live in the Southern Golan Heights, Israel, and have been growing Tomatoes for years. The summers are hot and dry, but humid and cool nights This is my first year growing in raised beds. Learning new stuff every season, thank you.
I’m from Vancouver Island, Canada 🇨🇦
I’ve been growing seriously for 4 years so pretty new. Watch tons of your videos! 😍
To be safe I always pour boiling water over my soil to kill knats.
Love the double cup method
I struggle with hardening the plants off.
I'm 52 and from California. Love tomatoes. My dad grew them when I was little. I'm trying to grow for 1st time.
Thank you!
Wonderful!
When do you start your tomatoes? Gonna try for a garden this year.
Some years have been great and others not so much.😜
Hello! I am from The Netherlands across the big pond. This is going to be the first time for me to grow tomatoes and searching YT for tomato growing videos I came across this video. Hope to learn a lot!
This is my 4th year of growing tomatoes, and still learning a lot from you, thank you! Zone 9b
I’m in northwest Florida. 8b.
This will be my first year planting tomatoes. I have had success with peas, green beans, and carrots. Excited to try tomatoes with the two cup method. Thank you!
Brian - you are such a GREAT teacher! Even though tI’ve been gardening since the dark ages, I loved every minute of this one and hope it goes viral just like the first!
So nice of you. Thank you. Me too! Lol
I’ve been growing tomatoes for eight years. This is the best video about growing tomatoes from seeds I’ve ever seen. Thank you.
So nice of you
We are in Columbus Georgia. Growing tomatoes for four years. We started a suburban homestead. I grow vegetables and can and preserve them.
oh wow I'm from across the bridge in phenix city
By far the best video I have watched on s parting seeds. I don't have a lot of sunshine to successfully grow tomatoes, so to make up for this, I volunteer to pick tomatoes at my friend's greenhouse every Friday before market, so I can bring back as many as I like 😋 My friend also plants her tomato plants sideways to cover most of the stem to promote root development. I love helping her in the greenhous, I learn so much.
I'm from Maryland and this is my first year. Gardening always seemed to hard but i stumbled across your videos and they have really made me feel like there is a chance.😂
Cecil county here.👍
Chatham Virginia and following your videos last year, I had the best tomatoes I’ve had in a while.
👍❤️👍
Going to see if you've got a video on pruning raspberries someplace. Very mild (30s😄) these days for February in Wisconsin 👍
If you don’t have the cups it’s a good excuse to have a party!!!These tips are priceless because Brian is the absolute authority on growing tomatoes!!
Youre right! Thanks Mike.
I agree 👍
And - Brian really does not like to eat tomatoes very much.
Hand wash! Not wish.
Hi Brian, thanks to you, I’ve been using your solo cup method here in Rhode Island for three years now and it’s my only way to start our tomatoes! Incredible results start to finish. Thank you so much for all of your videos.
Wyoming here! Been growing for 15 years!
I have been growing tomatoes for a couple of years off and on, but this is the first year that I am really gonna try to grow them and others from seed.
thanks for the tips!
The storm sounds dangerous, you and yours please stay safe! Blessings from the drowning Oregon coast.
Hi! From Georgia and I have been attempting growing tomatoes for 3 years. This is the first year I'm doing seeds. Your seed video was amazing for my life last year. Appreciate all of your knowledge and your desire to see other people succeed. :) I did Amish paste tomatoes today. Canning pizza sauce and spaghetti sauce this year! Thanks again so very much, your videos are my go to!
Q: Can I use the vermiculite on all my seeds on top? I use cinnamon. I bought the vermiculite the other day. Thanks!
You’re like a garden teacher, Thank You!!!
So nice of you
Been gardening 40 years. Tried the solo cups and they work great!! Had a 80 quart Tomato year plus lots of for my friends.
I used the double cup but my inside cup was an organic paper cup, when planting out it was easy to remove the paper cup.
for just over 20yrs i have been experimenting with a technique that supercharges plants i start from seed. this process seems to work the best for fruits. tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, pumpkins, etc. are examples of plants that seem to benefit the most. the hypothesis fist came to me when i was using ripe bananas to ripen avocados that were rock hard. one night i dreamed a high speed film like dream of a fruit falling to the ground, rotting away, then new plant sprouting. that woke me up! and the experiments began. rotting fruit generate ethylene gas. it would make sense that fruits would take advantage of this gas. what i do is to place my seeds in open flat containers like plastic caps or trays. place them in a paper bag or cardboard box. place a ripe banana in it and close it up to avoid the gas getting blown off. i let it sit for a week or two. then plant. some varieties are so susceptible to this that you can see the difference as soon as it sprouts. seeds treated this way grow faster, are visibly more robust, larger, more fruitful, and more resistant to disease and pests. i have tested it for over 20yrs to eliminate other influences like weather, soil, disease and pest ebbs and flows, etc. the results are consistent. this even works on veggies and grains. try it our 🙂
Dang! That sounds like a great idea. I might give it a try!
@@NextLevelGardening 👍
Definitely going to try this. I’ll start with a control group and an experimental group to be able to compare the difference. Sp just to clarify, you expose the seeds to the gas for 1 or 2 weeks before putting them in the seed starting soil to germinate? Do I understand that correctly?
@@crystalburrous3030 you understand perfectly 🙂
@@AlsanPineDo we keep the peel of the fruit on or off during this process?
This video is a treasure trove of practical tips and innovative hacks for both novice and experienced gardeners aiming to achieve their best tomato season ever. Your 25 years of expertise shines through, especially with the ingenious double cup method and the supercharging seedling hack for maximum growth, making it a must-watch for anyone looking to elevate their tomato gardening game. Been growing tomatoes for a few years in the Ozark Mountains now (7A).
I'm 27. I live in east TN. I recently acquired some land and my goal is to start homesteading. And hopefully get my neighbors to start homesteading as well. I would like to have everything ready in 2027 to present to my community and see if anyone would like to help or start their own homestead. I want to show everyone that you can survive off of being a producer and not a consumer.
❤ this is AWESOME ❤ I've wondered many times why people don't do this as a community.
East Tennessee here👍🏻excited for it.
Greeneville TN here, wondering what area in east TN you are? Thanks
Would love to join!
Homesteading is my son and daughter in law’s dream. I grew up on a farm and loved the life but hated the killing of the animals. I could definitely homestead as a vegetarian (plus eggs but the chickens would just be pampered egg producing pets)😂.
I was very successful growing herbs and tomatoes in Pennsylvania. Now I’m living in Fort Myers Florida and I have to learn what grows best here. Thanks for sharing. I’m thinking to start my seeds for herbs now.
Hi Brian, good thing you posted this video because I already forgot to fill the cup half way only...lol There is a saying in Romanian....hopefully it maks sense: it takes me a long time to get it but I forget fast!😂😂😂
Blessings 💞🙏💞
That's me! Lol
I am starting a community garden with my youth kids at church. Your video is extremely helpful. I’m supper excited to watch their love of gardening grow.
Yep.... Pretty sure you just changed my approach to starting tomatoes this year! I will definitely be trying this method! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Oh, dang. Planting a tomato plant laterally is a really good idea. I hadn't ever thought of that.
👍 Howdy from Washington State. Been growing tomatoes for over 40 years. Some years better than others 😂
Howdy Washington! I'm over here on the East side. The new zone 6! 😂
I’ve been growing tomatoes for years now, yellow ones, black ones, purple ones! And I start my tomato plants in anything I can use/reuse.
I’m so happy to have found this channel!
Awesome tips for tomatoe starts and planting. So looking forward to trying this method. I just started 828 tomatoes seeds in conventional trays. In 2-3 I will be starting another round and plan to incorporate this method. Thanks a million for your tips.
Just planted seeds in your two cup method first time of trying … have always grew as normal and when it came to planting nipped of bottom flags and put into the ground my dad used call it double rooting had great results myself for 35 yrs but never too old too learn … I live in the North East of England weather never really great … great video🇬🇧
Pro tip, get 18oz red cups and 16oz clear cups and you won’t need any marbles!
Or push the triangles down when inserting the cup, automatic spacers
I’ve been growing tomatoes for years and learn something new every year. However, your video has taught me so much more. It was excellent!!!!!!!
South east Arkansas here, been gardening 15 years and never tried the double cup. You make it look easy and worth doing. I will try a few and compare them with my regular method. Thank you
Hello! I'm in NC. I actually started my tomatoes like this last year. I was so proud. It got so hot here that I only got a few tomatoes. Once it cooled I got so many small green tomatoes. Green tomato soup is not good. Lesson learned.: I have to invest in shade clothes. Thank you there is always more to learn. Take care!
Hi, I live in northern CA. New zone 9. I've been growing for almost 50yrs. Yikes! Makes me feel old. I have used your tomato seed starting method for the tomatoes and my peppers. I have been really successful. Thank you.

Thank you so very much!!! 10 + years gardening. I love to grow so much and put my hands in the dirt:-) I bought myself a grow light, last year in winter. I am so excited to grow from seed now. My dream is to have a greenhouse. Single income home. I’m saving my dollars for one. One day:-) it will happen:-)
I haven’t had a good season with tomatoes in years and years. I’m looking forward to using this method. Thank you.
