I have several Joker blades and cannot recommend then highly enough. They have great designs, are very well made and offer great value. Their welted leather sheaths are excellent and hold up really well. Get one. (Great vid too!) Sharp blades all.
I don't know which one in particular I have, but I have a Joker with a scandi grind, the sheath has the ferro rod. I packed up the gear and my family, went out to the woods and when I went to start the fire realized I didn't bring a lighter. We had a toddler with us so I was not looking for a difficult time. Luckily there was also some of those little fire starter cube thingys with us. I used my leatherman saw to grind some of that up, found some decently dry kindling out and about to get from spark to burning full logs (which we purchased). I honestly surprised myself I got it going as fast as I did. The fire starter worked a charm, but the joker helped big time throwing some great sparks. It was my first try using that knife to start a fire. Very happy with that little knife, and I do love me a dangler. Next time we go without the kid I want to try without the fire starter.
I live in Montana and use bushknives weekly. I am buying this one based on your recommendation/video. I started with cheap Mora and don't regret it - I always have some laying around and use for my sons. They are good for learning and finding out if you really want to use knives like this. But when it is time to commit to a more expensive and capable knife, it is a Joker product you want to go with.
I understand this knife is literally identical with the Casström Lars Fält knife: same blade, same steel, same geometry, same measurements. Only non-stabilized wood and a slightly different handle. And it comes at just over half the price. I understand Casström’s knives are assembled by Joker (Casström admit they are made in Spain). This must put a strain on the business relationship.
Hey Aaron thanks for another great video. I bought a Campero based on your review and absolutely love that knife. I damaged the sheath and u encouraged me to get in contact with Joker to see what theybwould do and they sent me a brand new sheath at no cost. Thats above and beyond customer service if u ask me. Replacing something they could have easily and justifiably said was my fault. With this latest knife I think I know what my next purchase is going to be. I don't have a Scandi grind in my collection so decision made.
As dr Wako would say "This is a Batoning knife!" . Morakniv and Condor makes proper bushcraft knife designs, This here, is all about marketing...and how to sell more.Condor did that too, however, they made their blades 3mm thick, which is what works with scandi grinds. 4mm and up, it just makes a spliting wedge and not a proper knife for bushcraft tasks. All Condors can outperform this knife, in terms of bushcraft tasks, like feathersticking, knotching, carving etc. PS Far from perfect ofcourse (imho). Durability comes from the proper heattreament/steel and edge/bevel geometries combination, not just by thick blade stocks.
Looks like a really nice knife though I personally prefer a 3-3.5” blade for my needs. Everyone I’ve talked to who’s used a Joker has nothing but praise for them. I just however picked up an ESEE RB3 and looking forward to getting that out and putting it thru the paces.
Edge retention tests show that sliepner at 61rc hardness, that its edge retention did better than most m390 (probably because 95% of m390 is 57-60rc). Lionsteel tested their m390 vs their sliepner and sliepner did like 4 times better. Mostly because of the poor heat treat decsions lionsteel chose for m390.
@@gideonstactical actual testing that shows differences with actual data that you can compare against is better than personal experience that is just guessing at best. Also define well treated m390 and give an example and we can reference data on that.
The Helle Gaupe you can just call it the Lynx, Gaupe means Lynx in Norwegian. Helle has many great options. They also just released their new Les Stroud collaboration a few days ago, the Wabakimi. Also in Sleipner steel which is a first for Helle. But it is a smaller knife with a 3.15" blade. Hopefully, you check it out in a while. Shoot one of the owners an Email and they probably send you one. Or they probably arrived in US stores by now, so maybe easier and faster to get it from a retailer.
I remember your first video with a Joker knife asking, Does Spain make good knives?" It was the Lynx I believe, and it did very well. No one is asking that question anymore, lol. You've tested quite a few now, and I haven't seen a bad one yet. I have a Montanero, and I love it.
This knife is a 100% copy of the Lars Falt knife from Casstrom!! Nothing wrong with that, the original is exceptionally good it's my main Bushcraft tool for almost 6 years. I just think Casstrom and Lars Falt deserve a credit when we look at this copy.
@@adventureoutdoorsuk9271 Hi guys! Just wanted to quickly say that Casström knives are NOT made by Joker. made in Spain, but not by them. I'd agree this is VERY similar to our Lars Fält knife. Sorry for the late comment as I was lazily surfing instead of working and came across this video! All the best, Casström.
I have a Lion steel folder with sleipner and I can’t stand that steel, might be a crappy heat treat but I can’t get it sharp. I have no problems getting s35vn, 3v, s30v, D2, Elmax, ect.
I screw up every sharpening attempt on D2 and K110 steel. Add the scandi grind, which I'm not familiar with, and it would ultimately end up as a garage beater knife. But it sure looks very nice.
From a Chemical standpoint Sleipner Steel is a steel I really like. It is an interesting Tool steel. I am a huge fan of the sabre grind, if this comes in a Sabre grind I would buy it without a second thought. The Scandi grind has been done to the point I have gotten tired of seeing it. It is a good grind but I think the market has been over saturated.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 Yep. I've never been a fan of scandi, despite the fanboy fad following of weekend warriors. It's for sitting around the camp whittling and playing survival, not actual survival. No use for a pure uni-tasker like a scandi.
Nice knife and definitely a workhorse. I have the Joker Nessmuk with the stainless scandi option and curly birch, and been using about 3 years now (my main knife with the other being a laminated Ahti pukko style) I find the high-carbon vs. stainless arguments somewhat mute. With modern alloys and especially with a company like Sandvik, who's quality control and metallurgical resources create consistency in their product, stainless will hold up fine and I've yet to lose an edge on my Nessmuk during any of my outings (usually my trips last about 3 days and I go deep into the Cascades, (four-seasons). Besides, I'm proficient with my sharpening stones and keep both razor sharp regardless. My high-carbon Ahti, yes, does hold up a bit better, but really the time I spend getting the stainless "perfect" is minimal as it takes just a few strokes and then a bit of polishing with my jade stone for the super sharp razor edge to come back. I like the palm-swell in this featured knife and that is the only quality that I wish my Nessmuk had as I find them very comfortable. An extended tang would be great as well and Joker only offers one of its models with this feature. Good review. Thanks.
I feel like 5/32 inch steel with a scandi grind is just too thick. When im backpacking, I'm cutting cheese, salami, moleskin/bandages, cleaning fish, etc. I don't get the feeling this would do that very well...
I’m still looking for a comparison between the n690co steel from the brisa knives , building a sleipner casstrom at the moment .. but which will be better in the end and hanging on my belt.. Love the way joker is going!
Joker is killing it! I am already up to 12. Looks like I will be getting a 13th. I have several knives in Sleipener from Lion Steel and Casstrom and it’s a great steel. It’s very comparable to A2. Hard to tell the difference between them and my LT Wrights in A2.
@@gideonstacticalCome to think of it, I wonder if there is some connection between Joker and Casstrom. They have a lot of similarities and this Bushlord looks identical to the Lars Falt which is also in Sleipner.
@@charlessalmond7076 The name certainly sounds like Bushlore. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if Joker had to change the name to Bushlord to avoid a lawsuit from Condor. But it looks identical to the Casstrom Lars Falt. I’m looking at my Lars Falt right now and I can’t see any difference in blade or handle design. My Lars Falt cost about $50 more though.
I did some research on this and discovered that Joker makes knives for Casstrom. Something I never knew. No wonder they seemed similar! So the Joker Bushlord is the exact same blade as the Casstrom Lars Falt. So as it turns out I already own the “Bushlord” and I highly recommend it.
Man if they offered this with a convex or scandivex that would be amazing. Sure the price would go up a bit but it would be worth it since there isn't that many that offer affordable convex knives.
Bought the Ember from them last year and I really love the knife EXCEPT...their qc isn't good. First one I got had a gap between one scale & the tang that extended halfway down the length of handle. The replacement has a similar gap but only 3/4" long so rather than deal with the headache of another exchange I decided to just deal with it and rehandle it later when it comes loose. Very disappointed considering the not cheap price point and otherwise seemingly great quality.
Wow! Very interesting. I have bought about 4 myself and had several sent in and never had an issue with QC. I am sure there are exceptions to that but I would suggest checking one to two others out be for righting them off. Get part about amazon. Very easy to return if you don’t like it 👍
@gideonstactical Wondering if you can do a comparison between the Joker Bushlord and the Taxus Halibis. Would be an interesting comparison. The Taxus Halibis is designed by Jose Sabater who's also designed for Joker too, I believe.
I've been buying some traditional scandanavian bushcraft knives from varusteleka. They needed a little work but they are great. They arent all full tang but there's nothing like having a niece woodhandled scandi ground knife around camp. I wouldn't call them survival knives but for everything else while camping? Its my goto. Just need a little sanding to nock off the ruff edges and a good stropping. I never go out in the bush without my Puukko Forest 120 hanging around my neck or my trusty MT-5 Cudeman. Not really a fan of large fix bladed knives. If I needed something that big Id rather take a small axe. 😂😂 something I find easier to baton with if I had to anyway.
So after all this time, what's your top 1 or 2 knives to take on a backpacking trip? Price not a factor, just what you have personal experience with. Side note - The Amazon link for the Bushlord doesn't work. Appears that model is no longer available, an Amazon search gives you nothing, just the Bushlore and other Joker models.
Thanks for the heads up. Just tested the link and they show up. Looks like 10 models left in stock. As to your question there are a lot of factors, I will assume you are going to be making a fire and you are bringing a saw, that is what I do. Some of my favorites would be the Lion Steel m7 or T5, Esee6 or tops brushwolf, usually a knife that is 4.5-6.5 in long and under 1lbs
@@gideonstactical Weird, I tried a couple times and the link goes straight to a generic Joker results page. Irrelevant for me, I don't like scandis, but now I'm curious if it's just me or anyone else has the link issue. Interesting choices. I personally can't get past 1095's terrible edge retention, even if it is easy to touch up in the field. I'm a bit old fashioned and have really taken to a hand forged Kephart (yeah, I take a saw or 'hawk). I like supporting private blacksmiths, in this case Lucas Forge and HB Forge. The more time goes by, the more I've replaced my ESEE's and Tops in my truck or various kits.
@@Swearengen1980 I just love knives, lol. I totally understand the love for Lucas Forge. I got a Powder River from him back in August, and I am in awe of how well made and functional it is. Not to mention beautiful. His wait time is up there, but I believe it was worth the wait.
@@sopwithcamelus The wait time increased to 18 months recently. I recently went another route for small business and managed to get a Montana Knife Company Stonewall Skinner (magnacut, obviously). That took patience, too, waiting for new stock and they all sell out in minutes. Worth the price.
Just depends on what you’re wanting the Knife to do if you’re wanting something overbuilt with better edge retention the bushlore you’re wanting some thing that is more precise and better at strictly carving than the ember
A good review as allways👍Joker knifes are really good especially for the price, geat value. With a high saber or full flat grind I think I would buy the knife! On the other hand I'm spoiled, I have many good knives, as example my most used EDC for a while is the TRC South Pole with secondary convex edge, this knife in it's class is hard to beat.

@CasstromSweden Thank you for clarification on this. I was very much led to believe that Joker made them. I own knives made by you and Joker. You both make excellent knives, and I am very pleased with them. My favourite of all is the woodsman 👍
I'd love to see a joker bushlord vs casstrom Lars falt knife. Essentially very similar knives but would be a interesting comparison. As both even have the same stats. Except the casstrom is a hair longer over all. I myself am partial to casstrom as I've owned products from them. Needless to say for a knife for around the same price as jokers it's excellent fit and finish. Hand made-esque for casstrom.
@@robl5910 casstrom and joker are two different companies. The metal producer and assembly may be Spanish but I don't think they are the same. Cass Iberia is who produces casstrom.
@@robl5910 could be I'm not asserting 100%. Much or if not all casstrom knives are made in Spain. Could be the same manufacturer for both. It would still be interesting to see such similar designs head to head. To compare nuances between the two.
Sleipner is more of a medium-high carbon tool steel. I think the D2 comparison is misleading, since it is closer to D1 with a little less carbon and chromium and with a lot more molybdenum. So it is an improved toughness D1 that settles for a little less stain resistance and carbon hardness, but picks up some modern tool steel tricks like 7-8% Cr and about 2.5% molybdenum to regain some of the wear resistance without sacrificing too much strength. It doesn't hurt that the higher moly content helps stain resistance a little. It's a good formula for a tough outdoor knife with better wear resistance than 1095 and less rust prone. Nice knife! It goes on the list. I still probably need to get a Terava Skrama first to match up with the Jaakaripuukko 140. This Joker Bushlord is a really nice upgrade to the Jaakaripuukko 110.
@@gideonstactical Cool thanks! Just getting started with knife's/bushcrafting:) Looking for a all purpose camp knife that can gut some wood too:). Didn't realize the campero has a flat grind so by the looks of it, it looked similar to a bushlore! I guess it would than be more similar to a Kabar bk62? Really love the look and feel of that knife. Saw your video about it! A heavy duty bushcraft knife such as the bushlore might than be a good addition to a bk62 or campero if I decide to keep going with it and a general camp knife doesn't cut it anymore;).
Ooooh ....Joker did this once again!!!! just gives lessons to the market how to deliver at affordable price , an amazing tool with great materials......And with this sheath hanging from your belt ..... you feel for sure , that you are carrying a premium tool. Nice video, keep the good job Aaron!!
S30V is better suited for smaller folding knives & Sleipner for small to medium fixed blade knives. Both blade steels are good but S30V can be brittle & Sleipner is more susceptible to corrosion in wet or humid conditions.
Hey Aaron, (I hope I got your name right). If i use your link, then switch to the Amazon app. Does that still count as an affiliate purchase? Affiliate links always send me to a website that requires me to log in. Whic i hope doesn't screw up the affiliate link stuff.
Hey Eric, appreciate the question and wanted to support the channel that’s easy way. Here’s a ChatGPT told me. Yes, Amazon associate links can still track purchases if a user is directed to the Amazon website through your link and later completes the purchase via the Amazon app. This works if the user remains logged in to their Amazon account, as the referral is tied to the user's session. As long as the product is purchased within the associate program’s cookie duration (typically 24 hours), you will earn a commission. However, if the user leaves the Amazon platform for an extended period or does not log into their account when switching to the app, tracking could be disrupted. The user needs to complete the purchase relatively soon after being directed from your associate link for it to count.

Joker is really fighting to become one of the best knife companies out there. I haven't seen one I didn't like. I with they would make a Canadian Belt Knife. The only one I've seen is Cold Steel I like it and use it alot, but would love to see Joker do it with those materials.
@The4cp I had one of the Canadiense knives in Walnut. It was very nice, very ergonomic. I think it was less than $80 too. Unfortunately I sold it to help cover some unexpected expenses. I like 14C28N. It's a good tough steel.
Its literally the Casstrom Lars Falt just thicker in the handle in different places. They make the Casstrom knives so not a suprise . I LIKE THE THICKER HAMDLES THATS A+ FOR ME. Condor probably told them no on the Bushlore name , i was suprised they named it that so makes sense they changed it.
Joker Bushlord is in fact a copy of Lars Fält knife from Casström in Sweden. This is a piratated design. Not that it is similar, this is in fact an exact copy. Same steel an all.😂
Ray Mears is said to have come up with this knife design. His is called the Woodlore, which came out years ago. Condor's version is the Bushlore. No telling who all has made knives using this design.

Interesting I have heard some mixed things about lionsteels
Now that's a fine blade when you split that log with it and stuck and pry the tip you know it was forged well
Love the nomad I have. Looking to pick this one up to now. And you’re right about the insane value
It really is!
I like everything about this Joker
Less expensive than the date and more faithful.
Thank you
I have owned over 100 knives, half of which are American. The best I've had is the Cassrom Lars Falt, a variation of the one you present. Regards.
I screw up every sharpening attempt on D2 and K110 steel. Add the scandi grind, which I'm not familiar with, and it would ultimately end up as a garage beater knife.
But it sure looks very nice.
Totally get it!!
I don’t disagree with the scandi view point.
The Scandi grind is good for wood carving but sucks at anything else. I wish they would make a saber grind version of this knife.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 Yep. I've never been a fan of scandi, despite the fanboy fad following of weekend warriors. It's for sitting around the camp whittling and playing survival, not actual survival. No use for a pure uni-tasker like a scandi.
Saber grind would be better !
Thanks.
I love joker knives I buy them in twos one for use the other to collect
Beauty. Would love to carry that into the woods.
I feel like 5/32 inch steel with a scandi grind is just too thick. When im backpacking, I'm cutting cheese, salami, moleskin/bandages, cleaning fish, etc. I don't get the feeling this would do that very well...
Haha no food prep it sucks!
But bandages and fishing line it can do with that fine edge
Another great looking knife from joker BUT... I really want green canvas micarta handles. Im tempted to make my own for my Joker Nessmuk.
"razor sharp spine" LOL
Seems nice: but is it slippery when wet? Did no Gimping give you purchase issues? it hacks wood but how is it in camp, or with game, at work?
It is just a low traction knife
I'm wondering how this would stack up compared with jokers bushcrafter with the N695 steel, Amazon has that knife for $118.00 right now.
I prefer Sanvik 14c28n versions but the n695 is not bad too. It’s basically very similar to 440C but done well.
Right on I have not used any A2 yet so hard to compare
@@gideonstacticalCome to think of it, I wonder if there is some connection between Joker and Casstrom. They have a lot of similarities and this Bushlord looks identical to the Lars Falt which is also in Sleipner.
@@mmiller73 Condor Bushlore?
Thank you for showcasing these knives 🔪….. More great content and hit it out of the park again .
Glad you like them and thanks so much for watching!
Hell yeah it's always a good morning when a nee GT video pops up!
Thanks so much my friend!!
I nearly bought this knife last night in curly birch!
What size are your hands?
Love joker knives!!!!
Beautiful knife. Great review.
Man if they offered this with a convex or scandivex that would be amazing. Sure the price would go up a bit but it would be worth it since there isn't that many that offer affordable convex knives.
Yeah I want a belt grinder to start convex or scandivexing my blades that don’t have the grind already.
It looks ( and sounds ) a lot like the Condor Bushlore
But quite a bit better steel and fit and finish.
That's what I'm worried about
What would you say is better: the ember scandi from joker or the bushloard
Just depends on what you’re wanting the Knife to do if you’re wanting something overbuilt with better edge retention the bushlore you’re wanting some thing that is more precise and better at strictly carving than the ember
It’s pretty much the same as Casstrom Lars falt knife
Just cheaper
interesting blade. but is it just me or does this one look exactly like the casström lars fält knife?
Yeah I was thinking the same, I'd say they're made in the same factory as the Casstrom is made in Spain too
It does look very similar
@@giacomobenini8626 joker was the maker of the lars fält knife for casström from 2012 - 2021.
@@Kalle_Anka thanks for the insight
@@Kalle_Anka interesting. Didn’t know that. But this means that joker is now paying casström or lars fält to use their design?
How would you say this compares with the ESEE 4?
Esee4 is bomb proof. Joker Knives are quite good as well though and I haven’t had any issues with several that I own.
I have a TRC video coming soon!
Hell yeah man thanks for the amazing content!!!
How does sleipner compare to DC53?
Not sure haven’t tried that steel

@CasstromSweden Thank you for clarification on this. I was very much led to believe that Joker made them. I own knives made by you and Joker. You both make excellent knives, and I am very pleased with them. My favourite of all is the woodsman 👍
I just saw this video and sadly it's unavailable. Hope they come back soon.
Yes hopefully 🤞
I'd love to see a joker bushlord vs casstrom Lars falt knife. Essentially very similar knives but would be a interesting comparison. As both even have the same stats. Except the casstrom is a hair longer over all. I myself am partial to casstrom as I've owned products from them. Needless to say for a knife for around the same price as jokers it's excellent fit and finish. Hand made-esque for casstrom.

@@robl5910 casstrom and joker are two different companies. The metal producer and assembly may be Spanish but I don't think they are the same. Cass Iberia is who produces casstrom.
@MrNosfaratu I am aware that they are two different companies. I was always led to believe that Joker manufactured the Casstrom knives.
@@robl5910 could be I'm not asserting 100%. Much or if not all casstrom knives are made in Spain. Could be the same manufacturer for both. It would still be interesting to see such similar designs head to head. To compare nuances between the two.

Although the “steak knife” review was necessary to prevent poor souls from buying it, this is the polar opposite! Truly a useful tool with style!
Hahah! I am sure there will be some that see this as too over built, but I couldn’t agree more.
Excellent knife.
Man I like that knife!
Try a lionsteel and let me know who's Better. M5 or b40/41
Have several lionsteels they are great
What is the difference between the bushlord and the bushlore
Are you talking about the condor model?
It,s a very good knife. I have one comparation betwwen a joker and taxus habilis.

Great review Sir! Quick question. I already own the Tops Brakimo, how does the Joker compare to it? Thanks!
Bushlord was my nickname is high school
Loving your video's! How do you compare the bushlord to the campero? Cheers!
Very different, the campero is a great camp knife the bushlore is a heavy duty bushcraft knife

Great Review ....👍🖖
Amazon is listing this knife as the BUSHLORE at 145.00, Heads up !
Yes, the $121 models are already sold out but the curly birch is $136 as of today.
What is a better steel? S30v or Sleipner? What are the cons and pros, and what is better in general?
S30V is better suited for smaller folding knives & Sleipner for small to medium fixed blade knives. Both blade steels are good but S30V can be brittle & Sleipner is more susceptible to corrosion in wet or humid conditions.
Good run down agreed

It was nice meeting you! I hope the ice cream was good lol

Usually joker puts out great knives ?most Spain base blades are great .cudeman I'm diggin lately*
Joker is really fighting to become one of the best knife companies out there. I haven't seen one I didn't like. I with they would make a Canadian Belt Knife. The only one I've seen is Cold Steel I like it and use it alot, but would love to see Joker do it with those materials.

I like it. On Knife Center it actually called the Joker Canadian. When the money comes around it will probably be my first Joker Knife.
@The4cp I had one of the Canadiense knives in Walnut. It was very nice, very ergonomic. I think it was less than $80 too. Unfortunately I sold it to help cover some unexpected expenses. I like 14C28N. It's a good tough steel.

Are the bushlord and bushcrafter different?
Its literally the Casstrom Lars Falt just thicker in the handle in different places. They make the Casstrom knives so not a suprise . I LIKE THE THICKER HAMDLES THATS A+ FOR ME.
Condor probably told them no on the Bushlore name , i was suprised they named it that so makes sense they changed it.

Ya not sure why, the knife is imprinted Bushlord right on the blade
Sleipner is a Swedish tool steel kind of a D2 variant…
Yep 👍
Its way better than d2.
Joker Bushlord is in fact a copy of Lars Fält knife from Casström in Sweden. This is a piratated design. Not that it is similar, this is in fact an exact copy. Same steel an all.😂
Joker did make the Lars Fält Knife for Casström until 2021. Joker was the maker for Casström knives. Casström ist not a knife maker just a Brand.
Ray Mears is said to have come up with this knife design. His is called the Woodlore, which came out years ago. Condor's version is the Bushlore. No telling who all has made knives using this design.
I read somewhere that Casström is pursuing legal action
I love Joker knives. They're some of the best values on the knife market. I own 5 of them already. Looks like it might be 6 of them soon, 😆
Looks like they are gunning to take away some of the Castrom sales away. Even if you go with the most expensive version in curly birch with a matching firesteel, it's still around $30 less money than the Castrom Lars Falt with the same configuration. Joker is just hard to beat!
