Why would anyone further torment a little kid by telling her that her mother was the smoke coming out a chimney? Such a rotten thing to do.

Rotten, you say. The context was mob hatred, resulting in mass bullying ranging from jeering to economic to theft of every right and possession, and finally to mass murder. Rotten thing to do? Yes but that sounds so benign compared to the context.

The point is that she could not do anything about her mother's demise in such a horrific way and to basically rub it in her face about her mother being consumed by fire was just not necessary at all and was just blatant verbalized cruelty. Somethings in those kind of times are better left not so bluntly said when she likely knew herself but did not need it tossed in her face. Unbelievable that you would have the audacity to come at me with this. I have my opinion and I'm sticking with it so spare me your sanctimonious little lecture.
