Thanks for the video! Same dash in an 85 F-350. Had to pull mine apart to relay the marker lights (typical brown wire overheat). Your video saved me a bunch of busted plastic :)
Howdy. I just did this on my 85 F250 and on that main power plug, there’s a squeeze clip on each side. I don’t think you mentioned that, you just said wiggle it left/right. I squeezes both side tabs and it popped out with a snap. I saw the tabs on your on the video. Now I just gotta figure out how to get the speedo cable off!!
That is more tricky than I expected. I was going to replace the bulbs with LEDS. I think I might let my mechanic do it. Are there complete LED sets for a 85 F150 dash? Are those lights all clear or do they have specific colors?
Thanks for posting.. I tried to remove the instrument panel everything went well until I got to the speedometer cable and the connector. Could not remove them; They might have locking tabs and it's not clear how to remove the two. I'll probably give up until I find clear info about how to remove them...
These speedometer cables are finicky once you figure out how to get them off you’ll get it every time. The plastic collar almost cocks to one side and it releases. Most of it is just by feel.
If we just want to upgrade the upper indicator bulb line-up, can we just extract/replace them from the front with appropriate grip tool, after removal of just the column collar & cover panel. Thanks for this vid', ..... and any further info.
Yep, we can and I did tonight ! Spotted the tool in the LMC catalog for Ford p/u last weekend, and then chkd a local Cdn' supplier who actually had it in-stock for $10cdn. :-) So tonight extracted the stock bulbs, and planted 5- 194s of the active upper line-up bulbs. Also as soon as I had removed the panel, also removed the blue bulb cover so the id icons for the headlight/ wiper knobs would be brighter even w/o swapping out, which would ah been a bit of a challenge since it's not a wedge style base. And yes, as the LEDs went in, I would chk right-a-way to see if polarity was good. Only 1 of 5, were correct at first insertion'. LoL
Hello! I have a question, so hopefully you still check this comment thread. I just bought an 1981 Bronco that has an instrument panel identical to the one in this video. On this vid, at approximately 7:00, you mention that there is an emissions light that's separately wired from the rest of the panel. When I removed my panel, that light isn't in the position it's supposed to be. I've tried feeling around in that area, and the wires I see lead to the headlights, wipers, etc, but I can't seem to find that wire and light. Maybe you can help me out and give a hint what that light is for (my console says "Shift", manual transmission) and where it lead from. I'm having a hard time finding anything discussing it or what replacement part it would be. Thanks.
I'm not sure the emission light really does much on these older trucks. On mine it is a 8600 gross weight F-250 so it does not have a catalytic converter but it did have a smog pump and EGR. I removed the smog pump and plugged the exhaust manifold tubes and removed all the crazy vacuum lines. After doing this the truck runs better and gets the same fuel mileage (about 12 highway with the 460). So i guess what i am saying is I would not worry too much about the emission light and what position it is in. My light still comes on when the key is turned on and when i start the engine it goes out., but I essentially have no emissions on the truck. If your light stays on when the engine is running I would remove the bulb. If its not present I would not worry about it.
Could you tell me what the indicator lights over the cluster are from left to right? Just purchased one of these trucks and all the lenses are missing but some of the light bulbs are on.
I have a 83 f350 with no tacho got a tacho dash out of a 86 but has nine terminal plug the existing plug is only a 7 terminal Do I need another harness with 9 terminal plug ?
I have a similar 86' f150 I have tested the bulbs across the top of the cluster and the bulbs came back as good yet nothing works across the top of my cluster.
Question so my dash lights on the 84 f250 suddenly don’t work when I twist the knob to make the green light heifer or dimmer it doesn’t turn on any suggestions
@@hillbillypeakgarage6797 I bought a 6x9 speaker half the speakers out of the whole, trying find like speaker adapter or something and Metraonline cant find anything or even that a speaker exist for any of year from 1982 to 1985 frustrating did u add the speaker ur self in the center of the dash 2 cabs i have replacing one from falling tree on it none had a speaker in the middle but looks like one goes there, Thanks
Hi Could you please tell me the constant power source & accessory wire your clock is connected to? I got a clock & center-dash panel at my local junkyard. My truck didn't have a clock so it doesn't have the wiring for it. I spliced it to the radio's power sources & grounded it, BUT it resets when i turn off the truck & even when the truck is on it only works when the radio is on.
that's because you wired to the wrong power supply you wire to a accessory power not power all the time,,and you do have the wires in your ford put them in all f them if you look left of glove box under dash it is attached to dash at the very bottom just get down on knees look back up at dash feel for it right against the dash right on bottom of lip you will feel plug
Dumb question. I am having trouble turning on the fog lights on my 86 f250. Any idea how? I have messed with the light switch and I can't seem to find out how. Sometimes I turn my trucks lights on and they are on. Next time it's off again haha, I'm confused.
Thanks a bunch for this. I followed right along and got mine out of my 83. Tons of help!
Your welcome bud
You've done the best in demonstrating this.
Thank you
Thanks. Been so many years since I last had to pull the dash on my '83 that I forgot how to pull the knobs.

The truck is 40 years old - replace all the bulbs with LEDs and never have to fool with it again. Thanks for the tip in the headlight switch knob.

All clear bulbs
Going to replace the bulbs on my Dads 86 F-150 this weekend. Any way to check all the bulbs before reinstalling?
Right
There are clips on that instrument panel wire harness that you press in and it'll just pop right out, thing was a bitch any other way

EMISSIONS / LEFT TURN SIGNAL / FASTEN BELTS / HI BEAM / BRAKE / RIGHT TURN SIGNAL / 4X4

You might try and find a 83 tacho cluster, I think they switched to 9 pin cluster in the later mottled trucks

You have a bad wire somewhere or a blown fuse
I cannot find a fues for the top of the cluster. Could it be a bad ribbon strip?
I've been told that I have a bad ground.
If I have a bad ground then nothing would work across the cluster.

When I removed mine the battery voltage indicator didn't go down, when I re watched your video I notice yours didn't either. Why is this?
mines unhooked...previous owner put in a different gauge below the dash...not really sure on yours

On my truck the middle gauge next to the speedome dont have the numbers its just black with the lines what is that for?
It would be the tachometer.
Do you have a video on replacing the bulb in the ac/heater control?
no i dont but mine is out so i will do one

Any good videos for replacing a wiring harness? I got a ‘82 Bronco.
You gotta take the hole dash apart for that i believe
I think so... I can’t even find a good place to buy one with diagrams. LMC trucks don’t have the right one for an 82.
Schematic??
Do you have to disconnect battery before doing this?
It would be advised
How do you take out tye headlight switch
Should be a couple screws on the switch
I did try this on my 1980 F150 and it didn't work, maybe the thing is glued or something
Nevermind, I got the lil bugger out :)

Is this the same set up as the 85 grand marquis? Any info
yes it should
Hi none of the gauges on my dash work. What should I do
Well I would plug and unplug all the connectors and if that dont work i would get a new instrument panel
Don't be "clever" like I was and skip the steering wheel cover step. It is going to cost me 40 bucks to replace the shift indicator cable.
Where did you find one at? I have been searching for one with no luck.
