@@CharonsNightmare If I remember right, it was because they wanted to show the xbox new technology and video compression for dvd, the fact the movies could still fit on the DVD at the size and still have space for the game. Also included is the film The Man with the Golden Arm, a full episode of Flash Gordon, the film The Street Fighter with Sonny Chiba, and cartoon shorts of Popeye and Gabby
You really really should Full LP this with da boys. There are so many cool moments, side quests and other shit that no other games did. You'll love it the more you play it.
@@dyldragon1 Saaaaaaame, I played this in a real bad spot in my life, and it would be cool to have a proper look at it again, now that everything is going okay.
Matt, this is the single greatest game that's ever been made. You should turn this into a let's play. Or, if you don't want to do that, then you should play it for yourself.
Honestly I think the first darkness was better than the second. just the general atmosphere and all of the side quests made it feel like Human Revolution almost
Jackie "Tentacles" Estacado feat. The Pizza-Pasta Mafia and Fetuccine Revolution. Btw, first time I watched To Kill a Mockingbird on its entirety was on this, good times. I wish there was another Darkness game.
God this was such a great game, the atmosphere was amazing and story was great, I had such a great time playing this game. I really hope there’s a third one is made in the same style as this game one day.
It's great, i wish people showed it more love. I loved having to take the subway and look out for street signs to get around the city. Especially when finding Jenny's place
Full LP! Full LP! It's not a super long game and I think you'd legitimately enjoy it. This game is super underrated. Any exposure it can get would be appreciated.
God this brings back memories,... I remember playing this game on my bro's 360. I thought it was such a cool game in terms of atmosphere and gunplay. I also loved all the cool little touches like when you ran out of ammo on a pistol you were holding, Jackie would flip it in his hands and use it as a melee weapon and pistol-whip enemies. I love how the HUD in the pause menu and main menu is casting shadows onto the tentacles in the background too. It's so crazy how ambitious a lot of games from 2007 and 2008 were. If only we could get more games like that with today's graphics.
Oh man, I remember watching my friend play this game and we were so blown away by the televisions that we just stopped and watched the entire black and white short film. We'd never seen that level of unnecessary functionality in a video game before. Good memories. Thanks for reminding me of that.
This game looks like The Chronicles of Riddick games. Damn shame it never got released on PC and I missed out on playing it, since I love the Riddick games.
I actually have a really sweet nostalgia for this game. I would go over to my best friend Dylan's house every day after school and I'd watch him play The Darkness and we'd listen to A7X's "City of Evil" album and just kind of relish in our edginess. We were two teens in Brooklyn who thought Jackie was the most badass character. This game, perfect dark zero, halo 2, cod 3, dead rising, and crackdown were such amazing titles for their time.
the darkness is carried through seed and egg so like, upon conception, the offspring gets the darkness but the father dies since it leaves his body. so jacky has had the powers but they don't really...activate til age 21, it's one of the few drawbacks of the darkness. comics are great.
@@aleg719 dude yeah, you're right. from what i read in the comics, it was vague if he had access to them before that age. but still gotta play darkness 2 someday.
I have been a fan of yours for the past 7 years. I probably started this game around the same time I was watching your early videos. I have never requested a LP before but this is the one!! FULL LP PLEASE!!
I'd say the comics are pretty good, and worth checking out. Top Cow has put out some collected editions of the classic run, and there are a couple of reboot series that don't really live up to the originals. I always kind of preferred The Darkness to Spawn, but that was just me. If nothing else, check out Garth Ennis' run on it.
I loved this game. Never got around to playing the 2nd one. I loved all the monologues for the load times. You know what game is like this but better tho? Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Has the Zaibatsu played that yet?
Matt, I swear to god you never ever cease to not make me laugh. I get so much joy watching your videos and your authentic reactions to the things you do and how you just seem to love everything. Thank you.
Have good memories of the Darkness. I remember after I picked up my PS3 just a few weeks before MGS4 came out, I wanted some cheap games to hold me over until it came out, and so I picked up The Darkness for, I dunno, probably $15 at the time. Was solid as hell, glad I decided to take a chance on it.
If you lets play it, we will watch it. So cool to see you hyped by this game. The Darkness games needs to come back as a collection or remaster without losing what makes them special.
Hey Matt, for $15 dollars on Humble Bundle you can currently get pretty much every single Darkness comic book, the Witchblade crossovers, and two compendiums if you REALLY want to get into The Darkness.
Oh man, what fond memories i have for this. They actually have the whole movie "to kill a mockinbird" in this game and you can watch it on the tvs in the subway (i know that because i watched it this way, jep all the 90 minutes or so)
I didn't realize Studio Killers had ruined my brain, every time Jenny's name came up I thought "♪Jenny darlin', she's my best friend! but there's a few things that she should know about♫"
Aww man, I was hoping he would get to the first death moment. Also, I played this game as an angsty teen and man! Everything with Jenny is such an emotional rollercoaster, really fantastic game
Hey, Matt, you should play more Starbreeze and play Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. A lot of The Darkness's style and mechanics and flare are inherited from that, and it's probably the best Riddick thing ever made - barring *possibly* the original Pitch Black.
Top cow is still a thing! They have a relaunch of Aphrodite IX ongoing on webtoon right now they are trying to get a bigger audience on free comics apps
Geo Kasshu I remember being really excited when this game came out, partially because it’s still rare even today to see American comic book games that aren’t “big two” (DC and Marvel). More publishers need a shot at making their own big comic book franchises.
If your interested in doing a starbreeze video I know a bit about the company. It's interesting how they have changed over the years. Like there current CEO was the person who made GRIN studios.
I'm watching this late. And I hope Matt got around to reading The Darkness from the beginning. Garth Ennis is some of the best comic book writers to come out of Britain.
Was so lucky to get this game, i really wish the second one had the only the gameplay change but not the style or or the voice actor, the single darkling was a neat idea but I like having all the others a bit more imo.
You can actually see all of the movie 'To Kill A Mockingbird' on the little tv. The whole thing.
Jeffrey Galando If I remember right there's like 3 different full length movies in the game to watch. But not positive.
I always wondered why they did that XD
Im super confused by that tv. Its a crt and in 16:9.
The second game has a full Lovecraft movie in it.

Seeing his reaction to Hell would be great. That's the most surreal stuff I've seen in a game.
:(
This game was legitimately good.
One of my favorite shooters of last gen. Hope for it to get a Steam release one day. Would love to play this in 60 fps with a keyboard and mouse

There is a second one that went more actiony. I would love a third one, but I don't think it's going to happen.
@@Sharingandud Yeah I played the shit outta the second one too, tho I liked this one a bit more.
The first one was better
I´ll always love Mike Patton as The Darkness
It was him or King Diamond.

Matt you should do a full play through since you never played it
A full LP would be dope. There’s so much emotional stuff in this game, besides all the badass edgelord stuff.
I forgot just how fucking good this game is. Legitimately up there as one of my favorite single player FPS games.
It's great, i wish people showed it more love. I loved having to take the subway and look out for street signs to get around the city. Especially when finding Jenny's place
Favourite thing about this game is how the guitars and shit come in when you bring The Darkness out.
27:25 Matt, I too was taken aback by the term "finer then frog's hair" when I first heard some hick say it. Glad I'm not the only one.
Maybe play one of the Riddick games, another Starbreeze classic.
Full LP! Full LP! It's not a super long game and I think you'd legitimately enjoy it. This game is super underrated. Any exposure it can get would be appreciated.
I know this is two years old, but I was ecstatic to see this game was backwards comparable. Now we need the fear franchise!

This game is awesome.

YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, JENNY! Seriously, the similarity in the way Johnny & Jackie look is uncanny.

You should really make a series of this game brother
Ok Jackie's voice actor sounds familiar... wait... that's Ricardo Diaz's voice from Arrow... Oh god, he actually was in something good? O___o
i wouldn't mind playthrough of this.

Matt, if you play this more, if you slowly move the analog stick you can creep around while talking to npcs, it's fun
Who knew Johnny Estacado was a gun kata master
I remember when I played this I just sat and watched entire cartoons on an in game tv while eating ellios pizza. Fucking loved this game.

Love how both this & *Butcher Bay* look like Blood Relatives, considering Starbreeze developed both of them. Two All-Time Great Classics.
The music in this game is so fucking good.
I think Top Cow is still making Witchblade comics
I always thought this game was named Darksiders, which... got really confusing when darksiders 3 came out.
Full LP please

an lp of this matt please we the fans could use a pick me up.
This gives me big Riddick game vibes.
Others have said it already but honestly finish this game! Either on camera or not. It’s worth a finish.
A favorite from my childhood. Full play through when!?
If anything was screaming to be done in VR its that tunnel intro
I haven't played this game in years.

Moar Darkness Matt! This game is so good!
Accidentally blows Sullivan away. I almost black out laughing. Im fucking crying.
Aw, wished that Matt would've watch the entire scene with Jenny. It's one of the sweetest romances in games.
Your not the guy from Hatred, you are Jackie Estacado... Who also looks like Tommy Wiseau.
Actually Top COW is still around. It's a lil smarter too
Do a full playthrough man
I think i need to fire up my 360 and replay through this. Its actually aged really well along with the sequel.
Matt had a Woolie moment

It was so frustrating that you missed out on the romantic achievement, just barely! You were so close.
god i wish he'd go back and play this whole game as a letsplay

Now THIS game feels like a movie.
The darkness also had a hulk crossover that was pretty cool
Takahata should join him for a full lp
Can we bombard The Zaibatsu enough to make an LP of this game? Most of it is great and there's plenty of material for jokes I think.
