@@Shotis It could just be washed out or lighter in color. Brightness doesn't translate perfectly to camera because all you can rely on are color cues.

I have the reg magic 6 pro and while I like the 165hz refresh rate, the colors aren't that great and it IS dim. Forget about using this thing outside in the sun.
If you're in the US though, be careful as the phone is missing bands for 5g here. Also if you're on Verizon, you're not going to receive text messages. These are the reasons I'm trying to return the phone right now.

My thoughts exactly. I was expecting a list of benefits to having a Gaming Phone. Or a list of games to play on a Gaming Phone.

Yeah, absolutely missed the mark there.
Still really ticked off about how bad the software support on the Red Magic 3 was with a total of like 4 updates ever coming to the phone, on top of the fact that it came out in May, I picked it up in June, and they had an upgraded model launched in October which gave me that OG 3DS purchase levels of remorse. They even removed features I liked, such as the vibration feedback when touching the triggers, instead of giving you the option. It also ran some games really poorly for no explainable reason.
But I stand by the fact that the Red Magic 3 with a single one of it's controllers attached to the left-hand side was one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. Buttons and an analog stick where I needed them, precision touchscreen where I needed that, and good Gyro controls for extra everything else.

A gaming phone with no built in gaming controller is rather baffling. Doesn't the Xperia Play have a cult following? Furthermore seeing the increasing popularity of handheld PCs and mobile Linux distros making progress makes me wonder if any of those companies will be ballsy enough to combine both. Probably pretty slim chance an x86 phone will happen, but if it did then it would be able to play loads of Steam games on the go.
Given how insane PC parts cost lately and if you are a weirdo I can see a niche for it.

The people who are buying this aren't likely to buy another phone 2/3 years and probably has played hours and hours on a certain game. They want the best performance on their game/future games.
There's a statistic of 2.2 billion mobile gamers worldwide floating around www.wepc.com/statistics/mobile-gaming/ so even if a tiny fraction of those are interested in high-end performance on a phone, it would make for a worthwhile market. In many regions, phones are the primary if not the ONLY computing device people own/use daily. And if the majority of your local social network is gaming on mobile, you might choose to stick to mobile gaming even if you can afford an average laptop to play similarly demanding games. These products are also testbeds for the future of more affordable game-oriented mobile devices. Besides, people are shelling out equal amounts of money for a flagship galaxy or iPhone and all they do is social media, photos, and maps on it.
No matter how you feel about Linus, it only takes 3 ticks to skip his ads and the subtlety of this consideration is worth respect.
He has said before on the WAN show that they do that on purpose so you can easily skip the ads and intro with your arrow key if you want. Small detail, but damn it's nice.
I missed that episode of WAN I guess, but I pretty much figured it was on purpose given how consistent it is. And yes, I have always appreciated this a great deal. It's even kinda fun in an oddly satisfying way for me. I feel I've gotten at least as good at skipping Linus' adds as he has at segway'ing into them.

@@nigelthornberry7513 At least iPhones feature a much better SoC, the apple ecosystem, and more software updates unlike the "gaming" phones. This paired together makes the iPhone last much longer than your average gaming phone. Either way, an iPhone is also a waste of money imo.
@@unknownerror8799 Have never got why people like updates for phones so much, half of them ruin things on the phone messing up Bluetooth codacs, limiting cpu so the company can say it has better battery life like the iPhone IOS 14.5.1 that made genshin run at 15 fps for a whole week. Yes very good update I would be so happy to not be able to play my game on the phone I paid for thank you updates. Had a razer phone 2 for 4 years got one update and had zero problems the whole time, an amazing phone most updates just add one very slightly useful feature at the cost of messing up like 3 other ones.

@@GhostSlayerYT I have a gaming phone and there are many high graphics games which normal phone cant run more specifically emulators and a gaming phone will have features that other phones don't have like air triggers, gaming center, and active cooling which will make that phone far better for gaming.

I have an ROG5 and game with it frequently. I haven't had to use the fan to mitigate any heat issues yet and I game with it a lot.
Any kind of case removes the camera "bump" and the reason for a decent camera is for gamers who may stream on the phone. They exist apparently.
Honestly I wanna see LTT start benchmarking F-Zero GX running in Dolphin. Probably not the absolute hardest thing to run on Android, but probably up there. And you can even use a replay to benchmark it!
The ROG phone also has a high quality DAC in it which is super nice. It's too expensive for me but if I had that much to spend, I'd be getting that one on account of that alone.

The quality issues with the RedMagic 6 can be attributed to brand, I noticed a Tencent Games logo on the device (easily visible @ 6:15). Given all of the issues with products such as PUBG Mobile, low quality is to be expected from Tencent
Maybe a video that Linus Tech Tips could do would be an introduction to smart phone SOC's, which SOC's are premium or mainstream or value, and how to tell from a smart phone tech sheet if said phone has a good SOC.
Great video, as always. Would be nice to see a mobile game video, but using the smartphone connected to a TV or monitor, and with a Xbox controller. It's like having a portable console. With Samsung Dex, some games have a great experience, and I know that the ROG phone can be connected to an external monitor too. Plus, a smartphone connected to an external monitor + controller + X Cloud it's a pretty damn good gaming experience!

Really the Ultimate doesn't offer much more other than more RAM (you are unlikely to even use all 12GB in the standard version...) and the display on the back (which is definitely cool, but it is gimmicky). The big benefit of the ultimate would be the half a TB of storage.
The performance, better cooling and good battery can be awesome for productivity! I would get one if I could!

@@eric-. 1. It's not about the amount of storage, it's about the storage being removable and not dependent on the phone working properly to be able to access.
2. SD cards are plenty fast for storing your photos, videos, music, etc on. Most android phones haven't let you move apps to SD cards for years unless you format the SD card as an extension to the internal memory.
3. 4K phones are common, there are phones that can record 8K video now, and games are hitting multi-GB sizes frequently, some have broken the 10GB barrier, 128GB is not going to be a lot soon. It's a MASSIVE help when only your apps are on internal storage, and not your photos, videos, music, movies, etc.

@@Cyber_Akuma Dude. The ROG phone and Lenovo have 512 GB of storage and the cheaper one 256 GB. I made fun of apple when they didn't give you sd card slots when phones had 16 GB of storage and we didn't have streaming services for music. Now I have a Galaxy S20+ with 128 GB of internal storage and a SD card slot that I will never use. After over a year of usage I have 70 GB of free storage.
The same thing is with a headphone jack. When I bought a pair of wireless Sony WH1000MX3 I never plugged a headphone wire into my phone even though my previous phone still had one. Maybe if you use your phone for gaming that will be an issue due to input lag, but for normal everyday use it's really not a problem for 99% of people.

Congratulations! *YOU* will never use the MicroSD slot, but I and many others do. *I* will never use many of the other features of the phone but I would not defend their removal when millions of others do use them.
No mention of "Desktop Mode" seems like an oversight to me. That's where the performance of these devices could be really advantageous. I've been stuck with using an Android TV Box (quad A53 cores, 4GB) as my "PC" for several months (Old PC died) on Android 9. Android 11's desktop mode deserves mentionfrom what I've seen, multiple windows means these kinds of devices should have the performance and capability (paired with Gerforce Now) to the sole computer for students or others in a small living space (I'm in a bedsit so the space/energy saving has been awesome).

I recently found myself on the verge of buying one of these gaming phones. It was not at all apparent whether or not I'd be able to use any of them with my current phone provider here in vancouver (rogers), or competitor providers ... only for one of them did i even find a list of supported phones, which of course was just bigger name common phones. And although it may have been as easy as slapping in a SIM, I wasn't going to risk the purchase without knowing.

I would be a lot more interested in gaming phones if they were more like the Xperia Play, with dedicated slideout buttons so that i dont have to have my fingers all over the screen which has no tactile feedback. Emulators and traditional games (which play better than mobile games in general) will get a lot more convenient too

I've got the older red magic 5g and it has a attached base that can take Ethernet and has an extra usb c charger on the side

The pro Rog5 varient costs more tha 1200$ but the base 8gb ram cost 600-700$ and that base 8Gb varient is enough for gaming and all your daliy stuff

Important point missing is how well do they update their phones. Yeah one may be more expensive, but you get 2 or 3 os upgrades and the security patches.

It'd be nice to see a comparison to a "normal" flagship phone, like an S21+ or iPhone (especially for the comparison in performance), and see how the performance degrades with heat compared to the active cooling solutions.
