I just wanted to thank you for creating such great work. I suffer from anxiety and just came across your channel a few days ago, and started watching all of your cabin remodeling. I enjoyed it so much, subscribed, and am going through your videos everyday. It's actually helped me to just breathe. Thank you for always being in a good mood on your videos and showing tree's, birds, and all of God's beauty. I wish you the best of luck in everything you do!
Yes. There should be a round knob on each side bar. Loosen it and pull up the awning. Then retighten. Also, try sliding the web handle to the middle of the awning before pulling on it to open the awning.
Agreed, mine allows you to slide the interior portion of the bottom slides to elevate your canopy. Meaning, you can raise the height of the canopy. No head collisions.
On my awning you could unhitch the lower arm from the side of the trailer and put it on the ground. Always a good idea to cant the awning so that it drained and a big dump didn't fill up the awning and rip it.
Inside camera angle was CLASSIC. As mentioned, we pull a small teardrop and would rate your experience pulling up the hill a huge success. Why? Because no cabinet doors opened, no heavy or fragile objects fell, and it was a quick and easy clean up. Yep, success in our book. Glad to see you using blocks for your tires when parked. As mentioned, the plastic lego type are lightweight and have many uses if you want to eventually get away from using wood. Your awning experience made our day. While we don't have an attached awning, we've seen folks struggle as you did. Did bring a smile. As always, great video. Stay safe
Typical of any RV. When we were kids we rode in a truck camper. Stuff changed places. One trip Mom drove the truck to the bait shop and Dad rode in the back with us. He wanted to know why we headed for the overhead bed instead of sitting at the table. He found out. He said something about how wild Mom's driving was and we informed him it actually was pretty tame. We usually had everything picked up and put back up in the length of time it took him to come back to let us know he was parked-up and we could get out. Changes were made to cabinet locks. Tie down spots were added for coolers and such.
Quick tip. If you're going to have your awning out during rain or snow, have one end lower than the other. The rain will shed better and not puddle up , possibly causing your fabric to rupture. Glad the new trailer is working out. Happy Trails.
Mike Mead , Ha, you beat me too it. I changed to a tool bag for my travel trailer too. It fits in more spaces and it’s quieter and doesn’t slide around.
That's the right kind of trailer for trails and off road. I don't think an aluminum sandwich trailer would hold up nearly as well as your fiberglass body one will.
The Little Egg looked like a Toasty Marshmallow at the end of the video. Loved the scenery footage---beautiful!!!! Great work capturing all the beauty.
The awning will work fine if you put the string in the middle, just watch a youtube video of how to work them. Thats what we did. All the newbie stuff we gotta learn. But love our little trailer! Will be sad when we sell it, but we got a bit bigger one ordered and have to sell it to pay for new one. So glad you love your little trailer!!
Fun fact, the lower awning legs extend as well so he could have kept it at full extension and gotten more height. There was no need to roll it back in for head clearance.
@@carlaifera5254 Have you ever watched The Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz movie " The Long Long Trailer " ? If you haven't you need to find it & watch it as it is hysterical . I'm sure you will laugh your head off watching it .
Yeah, the Outback is definitely a great & well-deserved upgrade from the A-frame. Congrats! By the way.... your canopy's main support channels will telescope out or extend out from the bottom. You pull them out far enough to give you the headroom you need at the edge of the canopy. Just grab them and slide them upward/outward. Ya might need to press a detent button or loosen a locking screw before they'll extend. Should be easy enough to figure out.
Hi Slim Amazing video like always ! But please make sure to have a video of you making coffee in the morning with a nice view! its the best! I would like to see your favorite coffee brewing method and your type of coffee that you like to use. Thank you!
I liked the sound of fresh snow crunching under your feet as you walked about. I bet you appreciated not having to wipe snow off the trailer to get it ready to head out of your campsite. Love the new egg.
I have been watching some of your older videos Slim,And you are by far the best at this than anyone i have seen! The narrating and music are outstanding,Please keep doing what your doing it is so good! Thank you.
Those beautiful birds, the sounds of nature, the view at the end when your trailer pulls away and we look out over that gorgeous snow-covered meadow and mountain forests... what a joy! I absolutely LOVE your new little trailer!!! What a wonderful first adventure in your new rig, and everything worked beautifully! Looking forward to the next outing!
I was traveling in Western Idaho a few days ago and saw a Huge RV towing a boat and the boat towing a Jeep. I remember you saying ....how much stuff do you need to make you happy. Great saying and a good reminder on what important.
I appreciate what you show in your videos. Not just the camper stuff but also the scenes of nature that you record. I don't have the best of health so I'm not able to get out like you do so it is really nice and cool to experience nature through you.
I’m so glad this trailer is working out for you. You breezed that hill. And that’s great that you didn’t lose power even with no sun! Perhaps get a gate mouth tool bag, Ive used one for over 25 years and it should collapse down to get in the opening but still hold a lot of tools. I loved the ducks, nothing like nature. I miss going out in the woods on horseback. I hope you can get down here before long to enjoy warmer climes.
Love that you’re back camping, Slim. Top notch relaxing videos, something needed now to ward off Covid anxiety, which seems to be getting to us in spite of ourselves. Looking forward to seeing more of Canada from you since we can get to BC from Washington State so easily. Spent two weeks on the west side of Vancouver Island last year. Didn’t realize people come from around the wold to surf there. A rugged area. Great beaches.
I am an old white guy and I believe you are a strange person . But not strange in a bad way but in a very good way . How you tell of your love of nature is very inspiring . Keep up the good work , I am a big fan.
The mud and slush sure painted your rig up. The video from inside your trailer reminded me of our first trailer. My wife, our daughter and I were headed from Washington State to Mississippi for a school. My wife is not an early riser and she thought it would be nice to sleep in for a little longer while I did a few miles on the road. This was 1977, so no cell phones. We didn’t have any radios either. I told her if she wanted to get my attention, wind the louvered windows on the driver’s side of the trailer open and shut and I would stop. We did quite a few miles and I never noticed the louvered windows going. When I did finally stop, she told me she had been opening and closing the things like mad. The ride in the trailer, even on a smooth interstate, was way too bumpy, and scary, for them to ever do it again. She was happy to get up early after that.
Look up how to open the awning The lower attachment of awning to trailer pulls out and you can fully extend it and raise the roller part of awning for full extension.
I kind'a like the rain and snow now and then, it makes the inside cozier and restful,.. but ya... you don't want bad weather for very long. Truly, it wouldn't be so adventurous if you didn't experience some bad weather now and then.
U have got me really looking at a fiberglass trailer. Really like urs. I've inquired about a Scamp. I had thought of getting a minivan to convert, but I like the idea of taking my Dakota truck off the trailer to go somewhere if I need to. Thanks for all u do.
Hello Slim, I just got back from my first camp out of the season. I have a Viking popup camper. I had exactly the same problem you had. My oldest son was with me. Once we got on site at the 6,600 foot level in the Sierra Nevada mountains it started to snow on us. Before long I had 6 inches on the ground and the same on my camper. Then within a few hours it turn to Hail, then Rain, then Sleet. The temperature got down to 18 degree (F) By morning we had 12 inches on the ground and no way to build a fire. We spent 7 days up there. Fortunately, the weather improved on the 3rd day. Like you, there are a few modification I'm going to do to my camper before the next trip in that cold of weather. And I have a lot more confidence in my little popup camper, and especially in the onboard heater. Watching your video I knew exactly how you felt, and exactly what you were going through. I'm glad you're happy with your new rig. I'm looking forward to more of your videos.
You keep it real SP. I admire how you’re not afraid to show the good, bad and ugly of your experiences! Your Outback is beautiful, cozy and much more functional..so perfect! I also owned an A-Liner and sold it after 1 year. Looking for something similar to yours. Wish me luck🤞
Wow that water looks cold, must test it before drinking. Your videos are perfect. Thanks for sharing them, they bring such pleasure, its a pleasure sharing the journey with you, on your adventures. Wow its snowing, wow! beautiful. Wow, Wow, hope you have enough water. Safe journey! I hope you get half a million subscribers soon. Wish you well.
3 suggestions. 1/ youtube how to put an awning up...you need to extend your lower arms...it'll lift higher and go out 8 feet. Lots nicer. 2/ a weather radio 3/ backup vegetarian MRE's that you can use if you are out longer than you expected or if you run out of power options or forget to make a food run. Nice first trip out. I love your little camper. It's perfect.
Did anyone help you with your awning? When you extend the awning to a start to lift position it is too low but thats when the side brackets can extend that makes the awning taller. Also when extended slide the strap to the center so when you roll out the awning you won't have the trouble you had rolling out the awning.
Slim, I love watching your videos. In 2016 I lost my left leg in a motorcycle accident. I can't hike and get out like I used to even though I do have a small runaway camper I use . Your videos are an escape for me. Keep it up.
Hi Don, its must be so hard when life throws a challenge at you like that. I sure however it has made you stronger and perhaps appreciate the subtle beauty of the world a little bit more. We all need the wilderness, I hope you can return to it soon. Thanks! SP
Thanks Slim, you brightened up my otherwise dreary depressing locked-up day in People's Republic of Washington (State). I've decided to leave on my own trip within a week. Heading out for the national forests and BLM deserts! LET FREEDOM RING!
I am so happy for you, it appears you are very happy with your decisions and I know first hand how much easier your camping and traveling has \ will become. My wife and I , last year decided to sell our little fold up rig and go a little bit larger and easier. We both have just turned 70 and decided if we were to continue one of our joys we should make things a little bit more convenient, not too large but a little bigger. We, like you, had a wonderful time learning about our new home away from home. This year, now that I have learned a few new things about it, things should go even easier yet. Keep posting vids and enjoy your new home away from home as I know you will. From the land of Lincoln happy travels !
Slim, here's a suggestion. Run 12 volts line from your truck to your trailer and so in your traveling you can actually top off your batteries, especially on rainy snowy days as you travel. Second suggestion is you put a camera on the back of your trailer with your monitor inside so you can see the cars behind you. I happen to think your little camper is awesome and I enjoy your videos very much.
Enjoy watching your posts. Great photos and places you visit. Most enjoy the birds you watch. The Harlequin duck is very beautiful and it behaves a lot like the cormorant in the water.
One way to make the arms of the awning slide better it to apply a little car wax on it occasionally and just toss a towel or another such item into the first side that's opened so it won't flip back closed. A good tool organizer is a roll up variety that motorcyclists carry because it's sleeves keep them separated or as mentioned by others a tool bag. There could be an additional storage space available in front of the propane bottles that could be installed with a few U Bolts and because Slim is quite handy with fabrication he could make one like a wedge shape from a used aluminum truck tool box or large ammo can. Plus there are a number of alloy welding rods today that can use a Mapp Gas torch to bold aluminum/steel that don't require specialty equipment to create one from sheet stock. Kudos once again on getting back on the road...🚙🇨🇦🌲🌲🌲
Awesome video thanks for taking us along. I am so happy for you that you are liking your new camper. I hope you get your shower in soon because I know how much you will enjoy it. Always looking forward to your next video!
I think you got the perfect little camper for your needs yes you had to redo it to your needs but that makes it more for you cause it is done to your specs. Happy camping and hope to see you on the trail .
Put a little soap in the tracks of the awning and it will slide much easier...also centering the guide rope is important for balance. I always secure everything with bungee cords after retracting the awning, unless it is really secured and tightend.
hi slim .. the inside video of the "hill climb" is a great testament to the rugged structure of BIG ABNER .. yes a few items hit the floor but if you noticed the structure itself did not flex 1 bit meaning you found what you were looking for ... a very rugged camper for all of your off road adventures ... well done !!
Slim, you should be able to roll out the awning all the way out, most have a scalloped hanging edge that hangs down to break the surface tension of water run-off so it won’t run back under the awning. Once it is all the way out lock the upper horizontals with the knobs. Then the lower arms should be able to be extended up by releasing the levers on both side, and then lock them at the level you want into holes on the lower part of the arms.
The lower arms should be able to be unhooked and staked with pegs into the ground so you can walk back and forth side to side without hitting them. But I would recommend guide ropes to stake at upper corners just in case of wind if you do that though.
What a surprise to see the snow in the morning what a beautiful landscape I loved it. What a great video turned out to be don’t forget your key in the tool bin hatch.
Right sir, when it comes to solar panels power in general, something always comes to my mind but I have never seen it or heard about it, a trailer axle driven alternator/generator, as soon as you move the batteries would be charged, in your case I think it should be great since you move around a lot, a way of bring something back from the gas in the tank. I also have a trailer (overhere called a caravan) Im experimenting with something called a nato connector between the car and the caravan heavy gauge cabling trying to make the car generator charge my batterys when moving via a split charge relay, not sure how good it works yet but its interesting stuff, think an axle driven generator would be the better choice here
I use a soft sided clear plastic bag for tools. Can squeeze in most spaces. Like the camera set inside with a view for how interior items move during travel. Good advice to point out how rig comfort level matters in bad weather. Important lesson. Happy trails.
There should be some kind of an award for you to win for your videos, Slim. They are the best of UA-cam. Can't wait to see the shower setup.
Me too!!

That was really informative seeing the inside “stuff” bouncing around during travel.

Tool box: I have been converting a lot to tool bags to shape into unusually shaped storage spaces. Also, smaller bags to group tools.
Mike Mead , Ha, you beat me too it. I changed to a tool bag for my travel trailer too. It fits in more spaces and it’s quieter and doesn’t slide around.
I have all tool bags from Harbor Freight
I have done the same thing.
Traveling and camping while on a motorcycle, I learned the same; tool pouches or bags are much more travel friendly.

As always, quite interesting!
Beautiful Winter Wonderland in May.
Great video Slim..Canada is beautiful,,I am watching from Oklahoma.
After seeing Part 1, I just had to see Part 2. Glad I did. Thanks!
Whenever I see you walking right along the side of a cliff, I have to remember that you and the camera survived to put together the video...
What about using a tool roll for your storage area?
That was my thought too. Even two would probably be easier to fit in that space than a solid tool box. They're easier to find stuff too.
@@grannieannie1371 And to see what's missing when you are putting things away!
Have to agree with the tool roll suggestion. My boiler repair man uses a tool roll, it’s just easier to find stuff and takes up much less space.
Enjoy watching your posts. Great photos and places you visit. Most enjoy the birds you watch. The Harlequin duck is very beautiful and it behaves a lot like the cormorant in the water.
Slim, need to upgrade those trailer tires. 👍🏼
Hello from Louisville ky great vids
Awesome video thanks for taking us along. I am so happy for you that you are liking your new camper. I hope you get your shower in soon because I know how much you will enjoy it. Always looking forward to your next video!
To open the awning, open 1 side, jam a loaf of French bread into the frame, then open the other side. Easy peezy Japaneasy
French bread and jam. I knew I forgot something! SP
@@SlimPotatohead It has to be French bread to have the necessary resistance!
Or one of those crocs that were sitting by the door.
.......or a pillow......🙏
Easy-peasy French quisinee!
I think you got the perfect little camper for your needs yes you had to redo it to your needs but that makes it more for you cause it is done to your specs. Happy camping and hope to see you on the trail .
USA: April showers bring May flowers
Canada: Hold my beer
Hold my bear.... And moose..... And elk....
Lower bars should be adjustable
Yes on mine the sides extended upward with a flip of a tab. Then collapsed when putting it away.
Canada is so beautiful, love your trailer. Thanks for sharing your trip.Peace
I love watching mutual of Omaha
I'm glad I'm not the only old one here. When I first started watching slim's videos that was my thought. He sounds so much like the host of that show.
Oh my gosh, so funny you should say that, a few months ago I posted that his voice and narration style reminds me of Marlin Perkins! ❤️
What a surprise to see the snow in the morning what a beautiful landscape I loved it. What a great video turned out to be don’t forget your key in the tool bin hatch.
i've been watching your videos and have some major complaints:
1. i've watched them all and want more.
end of list.
😄
Love this little camper - your snug like a bug in a rug. I could be happy in one of those.
You just dont give a damn of the rest of the world...
Haha sir I just love it!😀👏
I certainly DO care about the rest of the world. All should, it's the only one we have. SP
@@SlimPotatohead you tell em SP. 🤨
@@SlimPotatohead I agree!
Hans, last comment removed. Apology accepted, Please be careful. Thanks! SP
Slim, ketchup doesn’t have to be kept refrigerated.
Leave it while camping in the hot arizona sun for a month or so without air conditioning. Let me know how it tastes. SP
Of course it does...read the bottle.
Definitely getting the urge to venture out now after watching a Slim Potatohead marathon.
Stinky slinky, hahaha
......funny how he said that sewer hose made him hungry ........😂
Happy days are here again
