sounds very good for $30, hope the original compensate the other $4970, damn
Sounds damn good, close enough to the real deal imo!
Just ordered mine :D - thx for the test!
Awesome review. Thanks for sharing.
Luvvvin these tones !!!!
I like mine, my amp sound great and I like the boost that sound dirty or clean. This works great with a tubescreamer.
No one wants to say it but it is better sounding than the "high price one".
Cute that the Centaur logo has the trademark symbol attached.
Quite a nice gritty crunch, I might consider getting a Soul Food or something if a knockoff sounds that good.
Soul Food is excellent!!
Sounds pretty awesome. Might get one. Don’t enjoy the BassBreaker tone though, sorry. All the other sounds were good or great. Love the channel, man.
Yes then Razorlight riff at the start 👌
Adding the "TM" after Centaur is a dick move for sure.
China is a weird place
Who cares
Why would anyone spend $4K when you could get this for $30?
You could split the difference and buy a legit product like the Soul Food pedal and not pay the scammers who are selling what are basically counterfeit products.
@@dsholt Still not worth $90 for the Soul Food when you can pay $32. I don't believe in intellectual property.
@@dsholt there is no such a thing as counterfeit tone lul
I got one, it’s based on the original and uses the same circuit and parts which are high quality. I have a crayon electro harmonics OD, a king slayer (klone) and now this $30 one and it sounds the best. I am taking back the electro harmonics pedal and keeping the two Klones and that’s that for my OD pedals lol
@freesk8 😂
I have the Mosky Silver Horse, it sounds really good for when I play more mid tempo punk stuff through my JCM 900, I use a Wampler Triumph for faster pop and skate punk because it's tighter. I've been wanting kne of these pedals (clone) mainly for the looks 😁.
At 00:49 you played the riff of Stone Temple Pilos - Down
I built the same one, or what appears to be the same one, from Landtone, that I got on Amazon. It's making sound, but the gain knob seems to be backward, and there's really no gain. I get a volume boost, but I don't get any overdrive, like I do with some klon knockoff pedals.
Sounds great to me.
Yaaaa im waiting on my sunday girl aww yaa, 👍
Good it arrive . most of the time arli express seem to loose your address and any info
I love these clones from China. They tend to sound good and pretty close to the original. The only problem is they use cheap parts and footswitch/jacks/led may fail after some time.
ok I order 3
@@schipbreukeling3 LMFAO! Right
@@schipbreukeling3 ha ha and ha!just ordered only 2 Rowin Tube Drives! ( ! lots of drive and still a natural sounding od, 25€s! gonna put one before my DOD Looking Glass...😎 I have the Rowin Dumbler and other China pedals and not one has failed yet...🤣🙄😏🤔😎
@@kimmolingonheimo same here,no complains
Just ordered mine!
How is it?
Its pretty decent, It's not a True Klon obviously but its pretty decent for the price.
I like it much better than the mosky golden horse. Its more punchier than the mosky.
The color does vary mine came in with a slightly darker gold (original color) and my friend's came in a bit more lighter colored. Idk why but at least they both have the same tone.
Oh and before i forget its a "Landtone" brand, the one's we both ordered. The horsie dude and lettering is very well done too.
I would like to do a comparison but I'd have to order the mosky again to compare them both Vs each other.
I think the AZOR Vintage Overdrive (GOLD) a Klon Klone sounds better. It’s only $25 on Amazon.
3:18 I actually think "volumepot" controls the gain and the "gainpot" doesn't seem to do much. 🤔
Bit of Gary Clark Jr in the intro 👌
I think it sounds rad. Good enough for the girls I date. I have the build your own ones on order. I like tinkering with electronics like that, I’m excited, can’t wait. Thanks for the no nonsense video!
I'm stealing "good enough for the girls I date."
Sounds good to me
STP awesome
Question: did your clone have a 9V center pin negative polarity or 18V? When you played with different voltages did you get a different sound.
I ran it at 9V center negative. I'm not sure this one could take 18V. You'd hope it would to get more headroom 👍
Anybody have the link for this on Alibaba?
yayyyyyy he played america
Is the Treble knob an active treble boost circuit or just a standard treble cut tone knob (like on a guitar)?
I believe it does boost and cut treble. It doesn’t sound like its just filtering off 👍
Please tell me which song the first riff is from! I've been scrolling through my playlist trying to remember which song it is because I recognize it haha
yeah it's killing me I can't figure it out😕
Gary Clark Junior
@@davidmusselwhite547 thank you. I was still looking around but now I found it
What does it sound like on bass though?
do u know the difference between this one and the mosky silver mini one?
I have the Moskey silver one. The silver one has a switch to change mode which seems to switch the gain lower but add volume. This Klon clone sounds pretty similar to the Gold Moskey, i prefer the golds to the silvers 👍
Hey dude can you please demo a NUX Mighty 15SE? I'm looking for a first amp but i can't find any good demos of it
Get a 5 watt tube amp
@@cleftturnip7774 nah dude i already got a Fender Mustang i v2
@@hubokus fair enough. If you haven't tried a tube amp you should one day.
@@cleftturnip7774 I love the smell of hot tubes, cig smoke, stale beer and perfume all mixed together.
I wouldnt recommend thisspecific version, for the same money theres a much better clone......
I built one of the cheap TTone klon kits a few years ago and its great. I traced the entire board an verified connections against the schematic on electrosmash. There was a couple errors in their pcb but it wasn't something that was effecting the tone or performance an i easily fixed it with some jumpers. With that said after seeing the board on the clone in this video it seems to be of a MUCH cheaper quality and the components dont seem to add up. Id love to get your I.C. voltages. Specifically U1 and U3. It seems like your pedal is missing a couple electrolytics. So its not a faithful recreation of the original circuit. But for the same money you can find clones that are. The TTONE/Prolandtone clones like the one i built from the parts/kit is also sold as a completed ready to use pedal and i can confidently recommend it. As i said before there are one or two connections that need to be jumpered but all the components are there they just missed the connections on the PCB. And even if you left the TTone clone as it is and didnt correct the mising jumpers then it would be perfectly fine tone and performance wise. But if you want the extra polarity protection and an identical circuit to the original then its only one or two jumpers away from that. The jumper just adds in a diode that if i remember correctly is the reverse polarity protection diode(on the TTone/Prolandtone the diode is there its just missing a trace to connect it to the resistor its supposed to go to). So if anyone reads this and is deciding on which clone to get i would stay away from the one in this video until it has been traced. It looks like some shortcuts were taken that may or may not effect the tone. Look up the TTONE clone and compare its PCB to the one in this video and youll see what i mean.
Also the TTone/Prolandtone are through hole components as the original.. No SMD parts at all. But the some mini clones youll find in the same price range are SMD and if something isnt done right or you want to mod a component etc. you would have a much much much harder time doing so unless you had the right SMD "rig" (rework station, small solder tips, magnifying glass or LCD microscope etc etc etc.). SMD can be modded with a regular solder station its just tricky. So again i would recommend the full size clone over the smaller mini clones. The Mini clones probably sound ok but with dirt pedals especially i never feel like your getting the same tone as you would with the full size original pedals.
Recommend budget clone: TTONE or PROLANDTONE
Golden Horsie
(The one i built was from PROLANDTONE but im pretty sure TTONE is the same company, the pedals are certainly the same thats for sure).
Another thing that sets the TTONE/Prolandtone clone apart from the lesser quality one shown in this video is IC sockets. Which makes auditioning other IC's a breeze and if one of them ever has any trouble you can easily replace it.
Thats really helpful info, thank you for that.
Damn what are you writing a book,or your manifesto?
@@nicoguarini28 Thats nothing. Im a shameless long poster who's comments are basically short storys. Take it or leave it, you're not obligated to read it. But if you did read it, i hope your reading comprehension skills are up to snuff cause the multiple choice questions are a bitch.
@@michaelinglis567 you know your circuits. I printed it for reference.
@badger519 The one i recommend is good from the get go no mods needed like this one and it costs $40 on amazon. Im not sure what your trying to say, are you agreeing with my post or are you assuming an inferior cheap product is better cost wise because it looks and sounds the cheapest?
Like#491 and Subscribed...Thanks 4 Ur Video !!
which model is this one?
BOTH PEDALS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON YOUR WEBSITE!
The difference is in the input impedance and buffer quality. The parts are are also cheaper of course.
wow.. do you even know how input impedance is calculated? IF they use the same schematic the impedance will be... gasp... the same. There is no magic in the Klon circuit, not even the 'magic diodes' which BTW if you don't crank the gain you don't use, aren't magic. I've built a few they were a bit different back in the day but there is nothing special parts wise about them
@@TedSchoenling Yes Ted there is some magic, cheap parts don't sound the same. They have swing in their tolerances, that's why all Klons sound different. There are multiple instances there Chinese knockoffs don't match the impedance of the original. If you want real tone you need 1-2 meg of impedance. BTW: How do you know if they are following the schematic exactly? LOL
@@josephfelice601 How do you know they don't!? Lol.
@@milankotevski1663 Did claim they didn't... it was a question Mr. Semantical.
I bought a clone from a kit someone put together . looks like a wish klon. It's too loud to use. Is it not functioning right ?
If it’s too loud that suggests it’s not functioning properly. This one has a good range of volume, I’m mostly running it here so if you turned it off the clean amp would be the same volume.
Can anybody make a comparison video to the original?
Music is win does it
I hate when people call the Klon a transparent drive. It definitely has a mid push to it, not as much as the Tube Screamer but it definitely does colour your tone. Something like a Blues breaker style pedal has a flatter eq and is alot more transparent
This is fine, but for a cheap Klon clone, is there something wrong with the Soul Food?
Currently? About $60. I get that the soul food is a "cheap clone" also and there's nothing wrong with it. But, I think the question is... How little can you pay for a klone that doesn't sound like hot garbage? This one is a contender and I paid $36 shipped for mine.
STP forever
I'm all for klones, but it's pretty bad that they BSd the brand into it. I tend to prefer the blank cased DIY kits for that very same reason.
stone temple pilots, great!!!!!
América 🥰🥰🥰
Snake oil is very expensive
This pedal have true by pass?
Not sure, for the price I would imagine not. However it doesn't take anything noticeable off the signal to my ears 👍
Why do you call 40$ that you spent - a 30$?
Sounds really good but quite different from a Klon.
Sure it does. Nudge nudge wink wink.
It sounds the same because it's exactly the same. Same electronics. Same. Same. Same.
Does it hum?
No hum on mine 👍
Only under the shower!
You bought the wrong one
Klon isn't rare.
How many IP laws are broken in selling a pedal that does not just try to emulate another but actually brands itself as the real thing? Very sketchy.
Unfortunately, China doesn’t really recognise international IP law.
Not condoning anything here, but the Klon Centaur is not protected by any patent. This is why so many Klon clones have suddenly invaded the market. The clones had the good taste to at least try to use different names and keeping their brand. I don't think Finnegan ever registered a patent for the circuitry, or the name nor the brand.
Why he chose to reissue the Centaur under the KTR brand is a total mystery to me. And why did he stop to manufacture it while the pedal is a success, I don't find any plausible explanation for it.
Now as far as the copy cats, for once, they are not infringing any patent. I can't say for sure they are even breaking the law as Klon does not even exist.
@@p6x2 it is very difficult to get a patent on a circuit. Best you can do is trade mark the name and look of the product.
I love the sound of it but am not a fan of saturating the market with forged products. They even went as far as to put a TM symbol on it. Granted their artist needs a life drawing class but still.
Just my opinion... but this is no different than buying fake Les Paul's and Strat's. I know not everyone can afford the real deal (I can't) but there are plenty of legal clones that exist of this pedal that aren't out right forged copies.
My 2 cents.
I agree with you. Cost savings copies are great, but to counterfeit and try to pass off as the real deal is nonsense that ultimately leads to someone being ripped off. Build an exact replica, but don't try to pass it off as the original that was copied. Leave it unbranded, or create a new brandname that pays homage to the inspiration and be proud of the craftsmanship and let the product stand on its own. These counterfeit musical products don't make any sense to me - because the manufacturer is selling them cheap, and then the criminally minded resale them at premium price points to naive dupes that believe they are purchasing the genuine article. Obviously the Chinese factories can produce quality products, so why not promote that and have some integrity instead of promoting immorality and providing criminals with counterfeit products?
I believe the guy who made the original is out of business. He also likely sold the schematic.
My Tumnus and bbe does just fine. This trailer park version lacks harmonics and warmth.
snob
I defy you to go into it and find where the 'harmonics' are made.. if it is a part for part clone of the well known schematic the only difference you are hearing is part tolerance. There is no special mojo in circuits.
