I sat down with Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren ahead of the NBA Rising Stars Game and discuss what it would mean for them to win Rookie of the Year.

Chet is a great player but Victor just does some unbelievable things we haven't seen before. Vic isn't just putting up great stats. He's putting up historical stats. He's the ROTY.

Chet is 2 years older than Wemby. For me to have Chet as ROTY, he would have to be inarguably better than Wemby right now. In reality, Wemby is actually marginally ahead of Chet. I don't even know if Chet would've won ROTY over Paolo Banchero. Wemby is definitely the best rookie around right now.

Wemby is a well spoken young man with high intelligence. He is the new Tim Duncan. This was exactly how Duncan was when he was a rookie. I love what he said about being a "prospect". Prospect means you're not there yet. It's hope, expectation, likelihood, but not yet fulfilled.
Think of it this way, you and a friend are gonna draft a starting five of just this year’s rookies to play a game.
You get the first pick. Who are you choosing? Remember, it’s all rookies. No seasoned vets on your team, and certainly no MVP level players.
After everything you’ve seen up until this point, who is your first pick? Whoever is your first pick, by default you’re choosing the best rookie you can of this season. That’s the ROTY.

When I look at your list
I would take in draft mode:
Wemby, Miller, Bilal, Whitemore, Hawkins in that order.
If there's still Chet to choose from, I'll take him instead of Whitemore.
Wemby is a Generational talent.
If he doesn't get injured, his career will be on a par with timmy's, admiral's, etc., and he'll be in the top 10 all time.
Chet will never reach that level. At best, he'll crack the top 100.

I gotta disagree with CJ pretty much saying that Chet would average 20 nd 10 in Victor's situation. Literally go pull up any Wemby highlight for a game and spot how many times he's double teamed so early into the game. He even gets triple teamed! I can't imagine Chet putting up better numbers in those circumstances, he already benefits greatly with having opposing defenses having to deal with Shai and Jalen
They have nothing else to argue with. Meanwhile the cold hard facts/stats are right there staring them in the face. And as far as the eye test.....man forgot about it. Only one of those dudes is compared to all-time great bigs, with some going so far as to say he could be better than even Lebron AND Jordan, with multiple championships, defensive player awards, and MVPs. The okc vs spurs game shows how teams strategized against victor, because on how a non scoring threat victors teammates they can just double him all game and hide chet against him.
I agree he wouldn't average that if he was on the spurs in wemby's place but Chet is averaging 17-8-3 right now as the third option, I do believe he could average 20-10 in a "different" situation.
And not to mention some of Wemby's teammates be hating on him!!! Watch VASSEL and SCHOHAN and how much they despise Victor, or how many times they've looked him off! The problem is last season VASSEL, SCHOHAN, and Keldon Johnson were supposed to be the young stars to bring the Spurs back to relevance, then BOOM they get #1 pick and get a GENERATIONAL TALENT! Those guys have froze Victor out in so many games! Imagine his numbers if he got the ball more and played more mins! He barely gets to 30 mins per game, when he starts playing 35-40 mins per game he'll definitely be in the MVP and DPOY race EVERY YEAR!

Vic is putting up generational numbers as a TRUE rookie . All with a sub par supporting cast . He truly affects the game on both ends , and is the MAIN focus of opposing teams defense efforts . Chet playing alongside Shai , and a good supporting cast in OKC .

Victor leads in most of the individual stats, it's not even close. ROY is an individual award. Imagine a rookie headlining an All Star media when he wasnt even selected, he brings $$ to the league. As much as I love watching Chet, I do recognized that Chet isn't a True Rookie - he didn't play any game, the season he was drafted - therefore, Wemby's overall performance makes him ROTY!!!

Although didn’t play first season , still being around the team and learning the ins and outs of the league still helped his development in understanding nba game . Vic didn’t have the luxury of watching and learning nba ways .

Meanwhile Chet beats him in almost every other category especially in defense which is another important part of the game that Chet clears him on.
