The only thing that’s preventing Wemby’s rookie season from being considered the best rookie season of all time is that fact that he didn’t have as big an impact to their record as other stars in the past. I know it’s a team thing mostly, but still you look at some of the great all stars of the past, they were able to get their team to .500 or close to it right from the get go.

There is a lot of hero ball which only should happen if they are efficient, but the spurs arent. You could have a whole trilogy for this spurs season of missing the better play and then taking a bad shot. Vassell might be the 2nd leading scorer but he is one of the main problems. Frequently takes bad shots and doesnt utilize wemby mismatches. The ppg doesnt mean anything when its inefficient. Sochan at least plays defense and thats a good piece to keep, but the spurs are seriously missing high iq playmakers and more perimeter defense.

Kenny said that stat glaze is a reach, analysts and nba media done that a lot in these past few years the 2nd youngest player to score this and that much points with other specific numbers, or the oldest player to have the most points in said year. Wemby played Gobert 1 on 1, and played against a g league team that's it, before his nba career.

Wemby might get the ROY and he is a great talent, but what do numbers mean in nowadays basketball. A player that put 20-10 and 2/3 (blocks) has historically pushed a team to fight for a playoff spot even if they dont make it. Even in recent teams, Kevin Love in Minnesota had the team fighting for a playoff spot even if Kevin Love was not a great defensive player. AD in New Orleas had the team fighting for a playoff spot and sometimes even making the playoffs. So how come this player can't make a bigger impact in the Spurs. I know the three point shot has a lot of to do with that and the rate other teams take 3 pointer. However, maybe is also true that is way easier to put numbers in the NBA and everyone and anyone can put big numbers, which mean that big numbers do not mean much.
Kenny is wrong here now Chet has to put pedals more than Wemby. Yes, playing for winning team can be hard as you have to perform better but Chet is playing a 3rd or 2nd best guy while Wemby is playing "the guy". You often see Wemby getting double, triple teamed but do not see that Chet not because he is a bad player but he has a MVP caliber player (SGA) in his team drawing double-team. You can also see guys like Embiid or Giannis literally going at Wemby while you don't see that for Chet. Pressure Wemby is feeling is not something you can just brush off just because he is playing a team that has 12-48 record.
Surely hope Chet and Wemby have long, injury free careers.

For reference, shaq played 38 mpg and wemby has 28 mpg. Them having similar statlines is crazy.

I love how Chuck calls out Shaq for his ridiculous takes. Im a Spurs fan and i know we have like 3 years before we can contend.
Wemby might get the ROY and he is a great talent, but what do numbers mean in nowadays basketball. A player that put 20-10 and 2/3 (blocks) has historically pushed a team to fight for a playoff spot even if they dont make it. Even in recent teams, Kevin Love in Minnesota had the team fighting for a playoff spot even if Kevin Love was not a great defensive player. AD in New Orleas had the team fighting for a playoff spot and sometimes even making the playoffs. So how come this player can't make a bigger impact in the Spurs. I know the three point shot has a lot of to do with that and the rate other teams take 3 pointer. However, maybe is also true that is way easier to put numbers in the NBA and everyone and anyone can put big numbers, which mean that big numbers do not mean much.

Kenny is wrong here now Chet has to put pedals more than Wemby. Yes, playing for winning team can be hard as you have to perform better but Chet is playing a 3rd or 2nd best guy while Wemby is playing "the guy". You often see Wemby getting double, triple teamed but do not see that Chet not because he is a bad player but he has a MVP caliber player (SGA) in his team drawing double-team. You can also see guys like Embiid or Giannis literally going at Wemby while you don't see that for Chet. Pressure Wemby is feeling is not something you can just brush off just because he is playing a team that has 12-48 record.
