I agree with John's Erick All's placement. Liked this guy's potential as a skilled TE from the pick. The TE position adds a demension that has eluded the Bengals for the last five years. Being unpredictable and controlling the middle of the field is critical to winning.
Mike Gesicki strikes me as a solid slot reciever not a true TE. I'm not ruling out that Mike will make a critial contribution this year.
"Standard dropbacks for 50 straight plays." John, you nailed it. After watching Enter The Jungle and the debate between James and Andrew regarding a top 10 Oline. We need way more under centre plays to even be considered top 20.

Five years is just too far to look ahead. You can completely rebuild a team in 4 top to bottom. It's fun as hell to speculate tho.

Burton isn’t a slot receiver, man. He can be effective in the slot but he wasn’t brought here to be the slot, he was drafted for his versatility so we can get Chase in the slot. John and many others seem to have a hard time understanding that. I love John but cmon man.
Totally agree. Burton wasn't drafted to be a slot reciever, he's more than just a one demension reciever. This player runs outstanding routes, can outrun defenders, can also catch the long vertical pass, attacks the ball, and rarely drops that football. Not positive, but Jermaine may not have had any drops at Bama, last year.This player is already an elite player in my book, who was recruited to add explosive plays to the rather stale play schemes that have been too predictable the last two years. Think as a result of the extremely lucky selection of Jermaine Burton there is greater potential to keep opponents guessing and on their heels! Jermaine was arguably "the player" selection of this year's draft both for value and playing skills. Was hard for me to understand how some of the analysts didn't include him in the top 15 valued players.
@@louiseregan2498 Yeah it happens in the draft all the time. A few years back people were taking a prospect off their board for a video that was circulated showing him smoking pot (a gas mask was involved). The 2024 NFL draft we have Callahan drafting T’Vondre Sweat with a high second round pick. It’s all arbitrary, remember all the horrible publicity Mixon got and the backlash the Bengals took for drafting him? I don’t care unless the kid’s a criminal, that’s why scouting departments are paid to vet prospects and as far as character is concerned, I trust our scouting department. You’re correct Burton had Zero drops his senior year. He’s going to help Chase hit new levels, and he’ll be ready to replace Tee when the time comes.

I wasn't worried at all about the Burton pick or his supposed immaturity. I saw him play for Bama and the Bengals' locker room is one of the most collegial in the NFL. Plus the team leaders set the goals and the standards within their rooms. It's a friendly place but it has structure. Never was worried about Burton's fellow players making Jermaine feel welcomed either. For a young man like Burton, who can be chippy, veteran players welcoming him will only improve his game and tie him to his fellow players. Friendships are miracle workers because you're nolonger standing alone. Your part of the team. The second reason was Mixon. That man was loved by his team mates, had tremendous fan support and the owner loved him, too. Even though the last year in Cinci, there was eyebrow raising stuff happening, the community supported him.
Cincinnati was the right place for Burton and Burton was the right selection for the Bengals. Plus the Cinci Community, I feel, will support him, too. It's impressive that notable Bengal players of former glory days are wrapping their support around Burton. People like Solomon Wilcots, TJ Housh and Chad. There is no doubt in my mind his selection will pay big dividends for the team.

@@slickbro256 I found this a very interesting exercise. It's easy to see why there are so many different opinions about various players and situations on the field. Do think 5 years is too long of a yardstick to measure value of players in the future. In the NFL how many players play that long for a given team?
