Right now there's one minor thing that I would adjust. I would cover your meat in a flour and spice mixture before frying. It keeps in the moisture of the meat and makes it more tender without getting dried out.

Thanks for this really good video. I just got some diced venison & was thinking I could use it instead of the beef in this recipe.... should it work the same do you think?
I did think I would be best to use the slow cooker feature on the Ninja Speedi but then saw your video, is there a reason that you didn't use the slow cooker feature? Im assuming it's a question of being a quicker option?

Small tip for cutting onions finely. Leave the stalk part intact when halving/peeling. Then, with the flat part on the board, make four or five near-vertical cuts from just below the stalk all the way to the base, so that they are angled into core of the onion. Then you can just slice across the onion 'horizontally' from the base up to the stalk part (the direction you did second). And then just discard the very top (the part you'd already cut off here).
I find that this is not only much faster, but also a lot safer: there is never the need to slice down on a thin part of onion that's not held together with anything.
Hope that made sense. Maybe I'll put up some pictures if anyone wants. (I've also got a tip for prepping peppers I want to share.)
Good try at the sauce: "Wu - stuh - shuh". Yes; it really only needs 3 syllables (use Google if you don't believe me!). Pronouncing UK place names really is a law unto itself. 😆
Anyways; great cooking as ever. And another one I really look forward to trying, especially with Winter closing in oh-so-fast.

Looks great! My mom used to use parsnips and turnip in the mix, which I add to mine. My pressure cooker takes about 15 minutes to cook everything,so the Speedi is way slower-sorry! I add some flour at the end to thicken the juices.

James, this is a wonderful recipe! I'm making it for the second time today. (I substitute the second 32 oz container of broth for a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes, tasty). I have the same issue as some of the others, it actually takes 25 minutes of dotted lines on my unit before the timer actually starts. That's OK, but I'm wondering if that 25 minutes should be subtracted from the actual steam and bake time. Any thoughts? I appreciate the time, effort and enthusiasm that you put into this channel. If not for you, my Ninja Speedi would just be a very expensive french fry maker. Thank you James.

I use my 4 quart stovetop pressure cooker for jobs like this. It would beat the pants off the Speedi , speed wise. I find the thing that takes the most time is the prep, and the cook is fast by comparison. Of course,I bought a Speedi,so I will likely try stew in it as well.

You should buy a second crisper tray. It allowes you to add anything using water in the bottom like rice, mac & cheese and then put first crisper tray on top keeping what vegtables out of the liquid while cooking meat on top tray. Ninja is the only place found selling then for $20 + $9.99 shipping

James, I love your cooking shows. I cook my fried chicken and pork chops the same way you do. Ninjas are my favorite air fryers. And since they came out with the Speedi. It’s been my favorite fryer. I just wanted to let you know that I cook my beef stew in the Ninja Foodi. I sear ans sauté my meat and onions and flour like you. I do use a different broth mixture, but yours is also good. I find cooking my meat for 15 minutes under pressure is quicker for me. Then I let off the pressure and put the veggies in the pressure cooker with meat and gravy. Then cook for an additional 5 minutes. So my total cook time was about 5 minutes to brown meat and gravy. Then 15 minutes to cook meat then 5 minutes for veggies. Just like you a one pot meal. Cooking under pressure helps the beef get tender faster and cooks the veggies very fast. I will continue learning from you how to cook in the Speedi. Ninja outdid themselves with that product. From a super fan

I just got one also 3 weeks ago, just love it, how did I live without it 😂 I did meat balls yesterday, put the spaghetti in added the water that the speedi handbook said, then threw in a bottle of tomato and Chilli sauce all together, then put the tray on the top place, and did it on speedi for 15 mins. The meat was ready after 10 mins but the wholemeal spaghetti needed the full 15 mins, so next time I shall wait 5 mins before I put the meat balls on the tray, the meat juices in the sauce it was really good. So easy, rice, roast potatoes, and roast lamb chops, there’s just no end it will cook and it’s so tasty and moist.

Hello James. I've been watching your videos for a while. I appreciate your recipes. I am looking for some help with my decision on my purchase because I'm stumped. My original Ninja Foodi pressure cooker/air fryer is starting to give up on me. I'm trying to decide between the Ninja Foodi pressure cooker with Smart lid or this ninja Foodi Speedi. I am thoroughly aware that the Speedi is not a pressure cooker but I am very impressed with it. It does everything the Ninja Foodi has been doing fast but seems more versatile. Would you suggest the Speedi over the smartlid Ninja? I love all Ninja products and their quality. I hope you can help. Thank you for all your videos, recipes, and reviews. I enjoy them.

    Hi James,
We closely followed your method for 'Ninja Speedi Home Cooked Beef Stew'. After the Sear Sautée stage, during the 'Steam Bake ' phase, the cooker didn't cease pre-heating, although steam was emerging from the top. The contents were boiling, but a cooking phase didn't occur. After more than an hour of watching the machine preheat, we removed the ingredients and resorted to finishing the stew in the oven. Our machine, in the UK, shows 'PRE...' whereas yours just had a dotted line. I also noticed yours has no guard over the top heating element. Barring temperature conversion, are the US/CA Speedi 10 in 1models the same, under the hood? If so, we would be grateful for your could help in troubleshooting our failure to successfully recreate your cooking method?

Another comment. You didn't season your meat before you fried it. To me that's a big no., no. And why did you turn your cooker off? And then put it on a different setting. Why didn't you just leave it on? Because it takes forever for it to come up to steam and cook. And it would have been half the time if you had just left it heated and then flipped it to steam and cook. Also, why would you cook your meat for 1hr 15 minutes

I think I would add some carrots and perhaps celery to this as it cooked. Just beef alone is not a real beet stew to me.

I used this video to cook some stew with v8 juice 46 oz and beef broth of 14 oz and did all the same timings on this video.
It burned all the liquid out of the stew. I'm very upset and don't know what I did wrong.

I’m not sure. Did u check it half way through to see if u needed more broth. Because v8 can burn. I would say more broth probably

@CookinWithJames I should have known something was happening because it was just putting out way too much steam. I know when I used tomato base in my pressure cooker it would burn the bottom every time. I'm going to have to find recipes and follow them to a T for awhile instead of branching out right away. Thank you for your video, though, and your quick response.

@@CookinWithJames I think I am going to get all of the ingredients in your recipe and make it to a T. Otherwise, I'm going to end up with a fear of using this machine. I'll report back what happens.

Good beginners tutorial… use spray when browning meat. A lot of oil will steam it because it releases juices. Minimal oil for nice browning.
Another thing is please don’t use the fork.. when you scratch it you can throw it away because when it starts flaking you will be eating metal too.
