I'm a 33 year old male who has never cooked in my life, not once😅, not until I got the ninja speedi. I absolutely love that machine!! Highly recommend it!!
Hi James so do you have to put rice or pasta in the bottom everytime you want to cook something,Also what meal takes 15mins like it advertises thank you 😊
Exactly the video I was looking for. No marketing bs, very informative and detailed explanations. This channel deserves more views. Thank you very much!
Thanks for this video. I don’t think the instructions on the Speedi are clear enough about what the difference is, and this is so much needed help. The difference between the steam and crisp setting, and the Speedi meals setting is subtle, but do use them differently. I use the speedy meals setting when I am cooking two different dishes at once, with the crisper plate in the upper position. When I use the steam and crisp function, I am usually only cooking one dish that I want steamed to cook and then crisped up. I put one or two cups of water in the bottom of the pot and the crisping plate in the lower position. That keeps the protein away from the upper heating element and prevents it from over cooking. That’s how I do whole chickens, or anything of that sort.
Hi CinSu. What would happen if you used steam/crisp on a 2 layer meal? I’m asking because I’m thinking about buying the smart lid pressure cooker which only has steam/crisp (not speedi meal). But, it appears I could accomplish the 2 layer speedi meals with the smart lid…but also get the benefit of the pressure cooker. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
@@bryancloar5760 Yes, the Speedi does 2 layer meals beautifully. A friend has the smart lid, and it does everything the Speedi does plus pressure cooking. But even so, since I already have a pressure cooker, I prefer the Speedi. Frankly, while the Speedi doesn’t cook as fast as a pressure cooker, it still cooks very fast.
Thanks for the tutorial, very informative. I’m partially sited so it saved me poring over the manual for ages. Living in England there a few differences but nothing insurmountable. The major difference is temperature. We use Centigrade versus Fahrenheit. Then just things like grill and no proofing. I make bread in a machine so it’s not important. Thank you
Hi James just wanted to tell you this has been the best review of any product that I have ever seen! Straight into it witout the faff and left no doubt on how every function works and what they are used for👌😊 THANK YOU so much 😊 you've totally made my mind up that I need a Speedi 😂😂
Big thank you for this video James. So helpful and informative, I use it to return to when not sure which function to use. So much better than the Manuel. I find your recipe videos great as normal cooking for everyone and everyday meals.
Hello there James and Happy Holidays to you as well; My name is Tim Williams and I just want to thank you for those good instructions on how to use the Ninja Speedi Food Cooker. My sister just recently got this for me on Christmas Day. it's a a blessing that you happen to be on UA-cam demonstrating on how to use the product. I'm looking forward to see all the recipes that you use on th Ninja Speedi Rapid Cooker and I plan to use it basically for steaming vegetables & other good foods. May your New year be joyous and prosperous for 2023. Tim Williams 🙏🏾🎉🎄
Awesome job explaining every step James! I moved recently and haven't located my booklet yet. I wanted to slow cook a turkey breast from the freezer and could not figure out how ro use the slow cooker. You are a lifesaver for me and others too, I suppose. Good luck with your channel.❤
Ty so much for this. I'm literally the guy who everyone hates for me to put things together or use things because I refuse to do so without reading all of the instructions first. This time I didn't. I've cooked about 6 things. All good but clearly not perfect because I don't understand the settings or know which ones to pick. You explained it perfectly and now I see where I have used the wrong settings a few times
You've talked me into buying one. I'm a huge pressure cooker person, been pressure cooking for years and years. I don't slow cook because I'm afraid to leave any appliances plugged in and cooking if I'm not home, and, I can obtain the same taste using a pressure cooker in no time at all. This appeals to me for roasting a chicken, or grilling chicken thighs and I'd like to try baking in it as well. I don't own any Ninja appliances, my appliances are mostly Breville. Ninja seems to have a lot of good reviews, so I think I'll start with the Speedi, because of its versatility. Your video is quite helpful, thank you.
James, you can sous vide your food in a zip lock baggie. It is not necessary to have a vacuum sealer. When using the baggie you get the air out of the baggie by water displacement method and zip it closed. I only use baggies when I sous vide and I cook with this method many days a week. Then I reverse seared when the meat is done
Yeah, you can use regular ziplock baggies. I use the freezer ones because they are more durable. I also use my vacuum machine and honestly both methods work. I only prefer to use my Anova Sous Vide machine when I am doing Sous Vide cooking. It is nice they add Sous Vide features onto many machines for people to try Sous Vide cooking.
I’ve done that method too and it works. I had an instant pot Sous Vide immersion circulator and an Anova one a few years ago. They both stopped working so I bought another one. I used Fairlife milk and a few tablespoons yogurt to make a quart of yogurt. Because it was ultra processed the milk did not have to be heated first. You mix the yogurt and milk together and set the machine.
Bought this 2 weeks ago and I am really pleased with the various functions, especially speedi meals. One thing I am looking to do is to cook a cheese omelette in it. I do have a dedicated omelette maker but it is getting a bit old now and wonder if I can use the Speedi to cook a cheese omellet. I normally use sweet peppers and tomatoes with it. Any ideas on how to cok this with the speedi?
James, thank you so much for your informative videos, especially this one! Quick question, if I want to quick cook some breaded chicken escalopes with oven fries, could I use either the steam/bake or steam/crisp settings to cook both at once, or should I stick with the air fryer function? I followed another You Tuber who did this on steam/bake, with fries in the bottom (with a bit of spray oil) and chicken on top, and it came out great- not too dry or overcooked like it might have been on airfry mode. But I’m worried that this might destroy the lower heating element because there was no liquid in the bottom. Am I okay to use this method without water?
This video is priceless! I've been avoiding using some of the functions because it seems intimidating. Thank you so much James. I am about to make Chili!🖕
This was a great video. It told me everything that i wanted to know, but didn't. I just bought mine yesterday. It was $99 at Walmart. I think they marked it wrong. I know i will love it. i used it for salman yesterday and it was great.
We are loving your clear instruction video and recipes, we have already bought our foil trays for your meat loaf he he. I have watched this twice now and have a quick question if you wouldnt mind, we eat salmon on a regular basis, with home made honey and garlic marinade. Would it be possible to cook the salmon fillets in the marinade, wrapped in foil on the crisper tray and rice in the pot underneath.. I would love to hear your thoughts on that. Thank you
Hi James, do you always need to put water to bottom when using the steam/bake option? To me logically the answer is yes cause it still involves steaming however the Ninja speedi instruction just says to put the tray to the bottom and add your ingredients.
Hi James, my son bought me a speedi for Christmas and I have not tried it out yet but have watched 4 of your videos. Thankyou. So informative! I find other videos miss a lot of important steps. Can you bake a potato in the ninja?
That was such a wonderful video thank you so much! I'm still intimidated but I'm getting somewhat braver LOL do you always have to have the liquid on the bottom even if you're not cooking rice when using the rapid cook mode also I'm still a little confused about where the Shelf thing is supposed to go, depending on which function. Maybe you explain that later in the video I just didn't want to forget to mention it. Thanks again for your wonderful video
You only need water in it if your using a steam option, when it’s using the bottom element, which is all the options on the left hand side. If you just using the airfryer, or grill things on the right hand side are not using the bottom element, except the sear and sauté which you would be frying in with the top open. And the reason you need water when using the left hand side is to stop you burning the bottom of the pan. You wouldn’t stick a pan on the hob without water in it.
Hi James...went to bake the brownies & the edge/rim of my 8x8 sq pan is just a hair too big...I or'd Amazon 6 inch sq; 7 inch sq; 8 inch sq with no rim...and lastly I decided to try two diff't silicone types..one round, one square... I want to see if I can lift out the silicone with ease..couldn't find one with handles...This is a project in the making...I may make first one with whatever size arrives first. Meanwhile, will make batch in small baking round thing that my Ninja XL Crisp air fryer came with... Will let you know when it all gets done in Speedi ! :)
This was really helpful , thanks ! I find the functions confusing and have only made a handful of things in my Speedi using only 2 functions so I tend to stick to using my stove .
Happy Holidays James! Thanks for this, it is helpful. I did not know there were different fan speeds. I know there is fancy computer programming to the modes, but I could not find a description of what each mode actually does anywhere on the Ninja site. It is particularly confusing on the Rapid Cooker side. I'm going to try to roast a turkey breast (not a roll, the raw breast, about 5.5 LB). Do you have a suggestion on the best method for that?
My dad purchased a Ninja Speedi and only cooks for one. When using steam and crisp, how do you ajust times when you are only cooking 1 or 2 servings? Thanks. Great video.
hello, can you do eggs in this thing like add water and soft and hard boil them under bake or fry them on saute? also for the steak on sous vide, what setting would you use to sear them after - just the sear and saute or broil or air fry?
That’s a really good introduction and explanation of the ninja Speedi. Can you do a video on how to clean the heating coil and the fan and any parts that will get grimy with regular use?
Thank you so much for your videos on the Ninja Speedi! We love it, but there is not a lot of info / recipes / timing and so forth about this appliance. I will explore your channel further, but I do have a question: How do you clean the top portion where the coil and fan are?
Hi James, appreciate all of your videos. I like my broccoli sautéed (slightly charred), not steamed. If I steam my veggies, how would I cook my protein? Thanks in advance for your response.
Hi there.. can you put tin foil in the Speedi?.. also the tin foil trays that frozen meats say you need to cook in?.. Just received mine at a bargain price from QVC UK.. loving it so far.. ❤
it seems that it's misleading to say it heats up in a couple mins. it seems to take 7-8 mins. but, other than that, I really enjoy your videos. please keep them coming.
Thanks for the informative demonstation and thorough walkthrough of the appliance but I want to know if I can put a little bit of Wesson Oil on my chicken and flour it shaking off and excess and put it in the Air Fryer will it come out crispy and crunchy like I fried it in hot oil on the Stove?
I did but I was just wondering if I could baste chicken with Wesson Oil and flour it like you would to fry chicken on a stove top? Because I would like to try it tonight.I was just watching your video and following the instructions to wash pan, pot, tray etc. and burn of any oil left in the inside of the unit.
@@blackjew725 you can do exactly what you do on the stove top, you just have to think of it as a compact stove top on the left settings, and a small oven with the settings on the right, with a bit of a boost.
Love the videos. Great job. Are you going to use any accessories. I purchased the Ninja foodie accessory packet which I think will work with my Speedo. Want to try and bake bread or steam eggs. Looking forward to any videos you may make using the accessories
New to the Speedi and so glad I found your videos - have followed your recipes and made some amazing meals! I feel like each time it takes so long (10+ minutes) to pre-heat, am I missing something?
Thank you James, really helpful as new to the Ninja speedi.. Is is possible to cook chocolate brownies in it, ie a tray bake? If so, do I require a liner or tray suitable for the Ninja Speedi? Sorry to ask what seems like a stupid question!
So I thought the Speedi was partly like an Insta pot where I could adapt those recipes. What settings do I use when it a recipe calls for pressure cooking, or can I? Thanks
James, many thanks for all the great videos. I got my Speedi yesterday and it's great, of course. Question: It is replacing an Emerald 14 in One Multi Cooker which stopped working after 1 year. The Speedi is a much better device but I miss the much larger cooking pan of the Emerald. I've searched but can't find a Ninja cooker with a very large rectangular pan like the Emerald that steams, fries, bakes, roasts, broils, slow cooks and dehydrates. Does such a beast exist or is there another multi cooker you recommend that would likely be a better choice than buying another Emerald?
Thanks for the reply. I'll just buy another Emerald to use on those rare occasions when I need a larger capacity. Anyway, thanks for explaining all of the ins and outs of using the Speedi. It is such a great product!
Thank you for this information. I have a question about the Speedi Meals setting. When I was cooking chicken in the top and pasta in the bottom I thought the air frying didn’t start until the last few minutes of the cycle. Is that wrong?
Good video, thx. Just opened mine, (long story, been in storage for long time, manual has been misplaced,) haven't cooked anything yet, finding my way around on UA-cam. Just wanted to add that alto it hasn't been mentioned anywhere yet I think you could make yogurt on the proof setting, temps are similar, just an issue of setting the timer for several hours? If you know please post, if I find out I'll get back to ya. Thanks again for the great video. .
Just got my machine. I had a Nutrichef before, and was NOT completely happy with it. The worst thing was that the grills got heavily corroded just after the warranty expired. It *did* do the kind of meals I like, such as meatloaf and fried chicken breasts, but I am *not* a gourmet chef! My first use for the Ninja will likely be cooking a roast beef,or fried chicken breasts. I like your channel, btw, and have subscribed!
How many quarters is it is there different versions of it can you do pizza in it and do you have a ninja foodie and how much differences is there between the two
I cooked 4 cups of rice, on top crisper tray brocoli, baby bock Choi, put in some sherred rostisory chicken. Used the rapid cooker mode 300 temp for 15 mts. My rice came out flofy very nice, my veggies burned-out, chicken was crispy. My question to you can I make steam rice only in the air fy mode without cooking anything on top of the crisper tray? Thanks. I liked your video.
I'm a 33 year old male who has never cooked in my life, not once😅, not until I got the ninja speedi. I absolutely love that machine!! Highly recommend it!!

Use steam and crisp for protein
Can one buy an extra perforated pan so one is in the lower area and one is on the top. That way you can crisp veggies and protein at the same time
hello again, how heavy would you put this machine at?
Hi there.. can you put tin foil in the Speedi?.. also the tin foil trays that frozen meats say you need to cook in?.. Just received mine at a bargain price from QVC UK.. loving it so far.. ❤
Yes you can
it seems that it's misleading to say it heats up in a couple mins. it seems to take 7-8 mins. but, other than that, I really enjoy your videos. please keep them coming.
how is it for cleaning behind the element in the lid ?
Thanks for the informative demonstation and thorough walkthrough of the appliance but I want to know if I can put a little bit of Wesson Oil on my chicken and flour it shaking off and excess and put it in the Air Fryer will it come out crispy and crunchy like I fried it in hot oil on the Stove?
I have a fried chicken video. Look on my channel
Thank you for answering my question I'm good to go.
Thank you for putting it into laymen's terms because I was scared that I would damage the appliance by using the it incorrectly.
Love the videos. Great job. Are you going to use any accessories. I purchased the Ninja foodie accessory packet which I think will work with my Speedo. Want to try and bake bread or steam eggs. Looking forward to any videos you may make using the accessories
Speedi not Speedo. Damn auto correct
I don't have any accessories. What do you have
@@CookinWithJames sorry don’t know how to download the video
Just go to cooking with James on UA-cam. You don’t have to download anything. You can just watch my videos
New to the Speedi and so glad I found your videos - have followed your recipes and made some amazing meals! I feel like each time it takes so long (10+ minutes) to pre-heat, am I missing something?
Steam and crisp shouldn't take that long. Steam and bake will take a lot longer
Great at explaining how the Ninja Speedi worked.
Thank you James, really helpful as new to the Ninja speedi.. Is is possible to cook chocolate brownies in it, ie a tray bake? If so, do I require a liner or tray suitable for the Ninja Speedi? Sorry to ask what seems like a stupid question!
I’m a bread maker. I’m excited about the proof setting!
Thanks for the info...what setting, time, temp to cook only pasta with sauce would you suggest?
Use steam function. Add pasta and water. Depending on the pasta, 10 to 18 minutes
@@CookinWithJames thank you James!
So I thought the Speedi was partly like an Insta pot where I could adapt those recipes. What settings do I use when it a recipe calls for pressure cooking, or can I? Thanks
There is no pressure cooker with the speedi,, you need the 1 lid, or something similar
Great video, I just subscribed. One question, do you use the rack for all functions on the right? I assume you don't want a full bottom with airfry?
Full function for everything. I love this cooker
Very helpful....Thank you!
You’re welcome
Is this compatible with instant pot recipes? If so, would you use the steam and bake function?
Yes
When making rice how much water can I use? I see those measurements in the bowl do I go by that like a rice cooker?
Go by the directions on the bag of rice. I think usually 1 cup rice 2 cups water
Great question. Honestly I’m not sure because the steam function. I know other cookers that can but no steam
Thanks for the reply. I'll just buy another Emerald to use on those rare occasions when I need a larger capacity. Anyway, thanks for explaining all of the ins and outs of using the Speedi. It is such a great product!
You got it
Using the steam and crisp for chips do I need to put water in bottom at all times please
Yes atleast a table spoon
Thank you for this information. I have a question about the Speedi Meals setting. When I was cooking chicken in the top and pasta in the bottom I thought the air frying didn’t start until the last few minutes of the cycle. Is that wrong?
It starts as soon as it’s done preheating.
@@CookinWithJames - thank you so much! That is great to know.
This is a Christmas gift I haven't used yet. When putting rice of whatever in the bottom, does it make a fair amount?
Yes
James I alao purchased the Ninja. What setting do I cook bake chicken in?
I have plenty of videos on my channel that shows you! Check them out
Can you cook dry black beans in the speedi?
Good video, thx. Just opened mine, (long story, been in storage for long time, manual has been misplaced,) haven't cooked anything yet, finding my way around on UA-cam.
Just wanted to add that alto it hasn't been mentioned anywhere yet I think you could make yogurt on the proof setting, temps are similar, just an issue of setting the timer for several hours? If you know please post, if I find out I'll get back to ya.
Thanks again for the great video.
.
I’m not sure on yogurt
I got my Speedi as an open box deal at a great price but can with no instructions or recipes. This video explains so many thing I didn't understand
Thanks love your videos.
You're welcome. Thanks!
Awesome thanks so much

Hey James bought speedi for husband for Christmas we love it question can you cook orn on the cob.
Thanks so much
Karen
Absolutely. Put 4 or 5 cups of water in and put it on steam for 20 or 30 minutes
Your videos are the best ...detailed... step by step and easy to understand. Thanks for those and the quick reply
Karen
Thank you. I appreciate it. 🙏
Thank you very much for this video was very helpful.
Thanks for watching. Watch more and share!
How many quarters is it is there different versions of it can you do pizza in it and do you have a ninja foodie and how much differences is there between the two
Yes. Look up pizza ninja speedi
What would the air fryer selection be used for if not for like..fried chicken? I noticed you used the bake selection in your other video.
Air fryer function only cooks from top and doesn't steam
I cooked 4 cups of rice, on top crisper tray brocoli, baby bock Choi, put in some sherred rostisory chicken. Used the rapid cooker mode 300 temp for 15 mts. My rice came out flofy very nice, my veggies burned-out, chicken was crispy.
My question to you can I make steam rice only in the air fy mode without cooking anything on top of the crisper tray? Thanks. I liked your video.
Yes. But not in air fry mode. Use speedi meal function
What is the capacity of the Ninja Speedi please and what is it’s low to high electrical consumption?
