Changing oil every 3k to 5k being the max is the smart thing to do.
People don't realize that gas gets by the piston rings and mixes with the oil in the pan .
The gas thins the oil which will not protect the metal on metal .

I change my oil (and do a tire-rotation the same time) whenever the dash "Oil Life" monitor tells me it'd due -- meaning, the Oil Life gets to 0%. Even if I wait a week or two it's no big deal because I use a quality oil filter and quality synthetic oil that can go WAY longer.
But it does seem the "0%" is every 6-7 months (I don't drive a lot) and ~5000 miles, so it all works out either way.

Better too often than too infrequent. No engine ever suffered from too-frequent oil changes. Oil doesn't really wear out, but it does become contaminated and the additive packages become depleted. Learn to do it yourself, and save a few bucks. Plus, you know it is done right and changing it myself is satisfying. Besides, it is very simple. You don't hafta be a mechanic to do it.

The one women who said she gets an oil change every 3000 miles could be correct or incorrect depending on the year of her vehicle. For all vehicles before 2000, the rule of thumb was to get a oil change every 3000 miles, but for all newer vehicle after 2000 because vehicle engine designs became more efficient its now every 5000-6000 miles even though most user manuals for new vehicle state 7500 miles. Another good suggestion is to add either a full small bottle or half of a large bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer in with your oil in order to help with the engines age and vibration to stay healthy. If you add Lucas Oil Stabilizer to your oil, you have to put in one less quart of oil than is required, because your adding the Lucas Oil Stabilizer to the engine because you don't want to over oil it. Another suggestion is to get your tires rotated at least every other time you go in for a oil change. During the entire time a vehicle is in your possession you should be keeping every single maintenance service receipt log inside a 3 ring binder with document protectors with the most recent service receipt kept in the very front of the binder. This record keeping can help assist and save you multiple ways. By keeping the maintenance receipts history from at least 50,000 miles forward or for the entire period you've owned the vehicle, those documents will allow you to either trad-in or privately sell that vehicle at a higher Blue Book Dollar Value. Another thing it can do, is the documents can allow you to create a tracker of some kind so you know the exact mileage you got your oil changed, coolant change, brake fluid changed, transmission fluid changed, brake pads changed, rotors changed, new tires put on, new windshield wipers put on, new spark plugs installed, etc. And if your tracker when the last time each of these things where done at what mileage and at what mileage marker they need to be done again, you won't be taken advantage of by maintenance service centers telling your naive gullible self that you need a bunch of services that you don't actually need because your tracking when your vehicle actually needs certain services completed and I'm talking from personal experience. I change my own oil every 3k miles for $20.24 total cost including sales tax using full synthetic Castrol GTX 5w-30 oil and a Toyota factory oil filter. Walmart had a sale on that full synthetic Castrol GTX oil a few months ago so I stocked up and bought almost 40 gallons. My car only uses 3.9 quarts so I have enough oil to last over 100k miles. Thankfully my Toyota is super easy to change the oil so it only takes me a few minutes to get it done. Another important fluid to replace is transmission fluid. I do that every 50k-60k miles. Don't believe the manufacturers when they say it's lifetime transmission fluid because their idea of "lifetime" is around 70k miles. I also use test strips to check when my engine coolant and brake fluid needs to be changed. My car has electric steering so I don't have to replace that fluid, but if your car has hydraulic power steering you should change that fluid once in a while too.

Use an oil funnel to put the dirty oil back into the containers. Take to a part store and get rid of the used oil. Supper cheap. Supper easy. Next time. All you have to buy is oil and filter. Do yourself a huge favor while changing your own oil. After the vehicle is on the ramps. In park. Engine off. Set the parking break. Take the keys with you and put them somewhere where no one can start the vehicle. If you don't feel safe. While at Walmart. Buy a pair of wheel chocks. Put them behind the rear tires. For every mile youre sitting in traffic, it is equivalent to wear on your engine to driving 100 miles. Back between 1974 and around 1977, I had a job as a chauffer driver downtown at a major bank, and in the morning the traffic on the freeway was backed up and to go just 8 miles took over an hour. So every 2 weeks I would change my oil and I doubt it was only maybe 300 miles between my oil changes. Now if I never sit in a traffic jam ill go up to 3000 miles. But to go up to 5000 miles is crazy, and those are salesmen telling people this nonsense, dont you people know the difference between an experienced mechanic and a salesman?

Every 3000 miles is throwing money out the window. Many of today's costlier vehicles can easily go 6000 miles without needing to have their oil and filter changed.
Of course, if your owner's maintenance manual states oil/filter changes at 10,000 mile intervals or 1 year, I recommend not going past 6000 miles or 1 year.

First of all, yes, always keep up with your oil changes. Second, never buy an "extended warranty" from one of these third parties! They will exhaust every avenue to not cover repairs on your vehicle!

They say change your oil every 7 to 10k. That will let your engine last 120k miles. That is it. Bait and switch. The maintenance manual stops at 120k for a reason.

People arent necessarily "putting off" their oil change.... The vehicle manufacturers recommendations exceed what other recommendations are.... Always blame the consumer, not the corporations... Its sad.... Its pathetic people get told theories on oil changes but never a "scientific reality" of what the right oil change intervals are... This is a failure of the system, not the consumers. And oil change costs are completely ridiculously priced today. Corporate greed....

Every 3000 miles just bring it into Jiffy Lube. Not Jiffy Lube but your local shop.

Nowadays, newer cars ask for 10000 miles oil change. Don't believe in that nonsense. Change your oil between 3000 and 5000 miles.

And if you have you oil changed at a quick lube place, always check your dipstick to make sure the oil is new, and up to the full mark.
