  • Texas, 1993. A group of road workers were out working in the brutal summer heat. As they went about their jobs, one of them would make a gruesome discovery. It was a crime that would leave the most experienced officers in shock and they knew they were in a race against time. They would have to use all of their knowledge and skill to stop a ruthless killer, before they stuck again.

The f-d up families that produce most of the kids like this aren't the types that will care, unfortunately. This is why it's important for a country to invest in a well run Child Protection Agency that can screen for this. Sociopaths are born, but psychopaths are created.

The police didn't know about his killing activity until this crime was committed, so there isn't anything they could do about it, police can't just go from home to home randomly asking - oh do your children kill animals, I mean really, it doesn't make sense that you think that is a possibility, tragically it takes another crime to occur for them to discover someones criminal activity.

For anyone who wants to blame the dad, consider this: the crimes took place in 1993. The dad might have assumed it was friends of his son picking him up (because "someone" was sitting at the backseat as well).
While the 90s wasn't crime-free, kids still had more freedom to be out and about without the thought something *could* happen to them. This is hardly possible now unless you live in a safe area. And even then, there are risks.
Saying "I would've done this and that" does not change the fact that this monster killed the two teenagers. I'm sure the father blamed himself enough.

@@fernfunk Yes. Violent crime has consistently gone down over the last several decades. People fearmonger as though today is more dangerous, when in reality the difference is that news spreads more now (so you hear about crimes when they happen, instead of them vanishing into local papers) and that people tend to get caught more often (so cases blow up, instead of going cold). This idea that it used to be safe, so people were fine to do XYZ and now it's dangerous so they can't is nonsense. It's exactly the reverse: it used to be dangerous but people didn't know. So they got killed. Now we know it's not safe, so it doesn't happen as much.

To those who are upset that the killer's background and upbringing is dissected and considered when investigating murders....if we didn't learn from these people, what contributes to these behavioral issues, we'll never have a chance of dealing with it as society.
If it weren't for people interested in what makes killers tick, we wouldn't know that torturing and mutilating animals was a solid sign of escalation into murdering humans, we wouldn't know that being shitty to your kids might lead them down this path.
Its also possible that saying things like "I had a terrible upbringing and I didn't murder anyone" isn't grasping the concepts. Its not for sympathy for the murderer, or a unfocusing on the victims, its vital information.
Just calling someone evil and letting it be that is just contributing to the problem. At the very least, its not helpful to future victims of abuse and violence.

Well that's the rub, his family read his writings, reported him, even found a doctor and made him see the truth of things, diagnose him properly, and make the appropriate warnings, that'd he'd never be safe... and then he still got set free.
Caught some time later with a scorecard listing the 100 animals he had tortured, killed, and mutilated, along with a cat he was in that process actively with... and he again gets minimal punishment, and turned loose again...

This is yet another example of the effects that abuse and neglect have on a growing brain. There is no easy answer here. It's sad all around. Jason had pent up anger due to the treatment he received from his mother. It's extremely unfortunate that he was not rescued and did not receive proper help for the trauma.
Cristina and Brian suffered the consequences of that with their lives. What a horrific tragedy. I can only imagine how terrified they were. 💔

Jason was the devil in disguise; so much hate in his heart. I don't care about what had happened to him in the past; as his sister testified, she had the same upbringing and didn't choose to turn out that way. How horrendous for these poor kids and their family; not to mention all of those animals' lives he took as well, and his "sentence" for the latter was a joke. Glad he ended up getting the DP, and that that didn't end up taking decades to carry out as is usually the case. Too bad he didn't end up confessing to who actually was in the car with him that night cuz that person certainly was an accessory to the crime, if not an active participant. Hope karma came for him/her.
Anyhow, enjoy the rest of your weekend, ladies!

If only more effort was put into the devastating neurological impacts of childhood violence so appropriate interventions could be applied for the benefit of all. The human species disregard for the constant suffering and abuse of other animals has a negative ripple effect throughout society.

There's a new procedure being used on people who have experienced significant trauma, above and beyond what most experience, called a dual stellate ganglionic block.
It's just injecting a bit of anesthesia into nerve clusters coming out of the brain's alarm center. When done a specific way, it resets the alarm center to revert back to its default, and not the higher level it adapts to after abuse, war, SA, etc
It is interesting though because of how and why it works. People who experience these traumas that are beyond what most ever see, the brain's alarm center will release a stimulating hormones that will cause the nerves of this system to duplicate and grow... rather than having 2 nerves on each side, you'll grow 4, or 8, or 16, or 32...
Presumably making traumatized people capable of experiencing fear reactions that are 2, 4, 8, 16 etc times greater than those of others.
It's got to really be something to be stuck being that way, after some trauma.... to be broken forever.
The hopeful thing is now we are finally beginning to see actual organic changes that trauma creates, and even how to reverse some of them.

Imagine just for a minute how many other Jason Masseys walk the earth at this very moment, no doubt we’ll beyond a million, these killers suffer from a toxic mix of a lack of empathy or love, an absent emotion, and a heightened impulse for emotions like anger, jealousy, the macabre.
