Hey guys! We have more online masterclasses like these coming up soon! check it out here: www.dimitrifantinidrums.com/aboutthedrumhub
Jeff did the same thing for the song Africa with Manu Katche in Paris, I was there. He didn’t took a notebook he took a camcorder and filmed Manu with a huge smile.
That’s absolutely incredible. I wish I could see that!
I’m confused Jeff recorded manu for what reason
@@jeffcrocker1078 He was filming him to save the moment probably
@@jeffcrocker1078and probably to see if Manu switched it up and so he could study him, or just to save the moment.
So cool that you were able to get Bernard to do this. Congrats!
Thanks!!! It was an experience I will never ever forget!!
He wasn't joking when he showed off the right tempo for the Purdie shuffle. Perfect.
Right??
This is fantastic, I've been a Bassist since the 70s and always loved Bernard Purdie's feel since hearing Aja. I recently bought a second-hand set of drums. I'm enjoying learning to play and the Purdie shuffle is a huge challenge. This is a perfect breakdown of all the variations. I'm a lefty playing a righty kit, the only way I can get those ghost notes is via open hand.
Super cool you’re learning it open handed!! You play bass lefty or righty?
Icons. Thank you for this valuable lesson!
You’re very welcome, glad you got something out of it!
Oh.. I've never heard of this beat before. I created the same exact beat, I want to say in 1959. . I called it the Timmy Shuffle.
Well, you heard it the UA-cam comment section first! Its not the Purdie Shuffle, its the Timmy Shuffle .
The Timmy shuffle! I’ll remember that!
Great great video! ❤
Thank you!!
Awesome video ❤

Great break down , thanks. All these guys still look great
They do!!! 😊

We need to protect this man's legacy at all costs. Bernard has had his thunder stolen for DECADES, especially by Bonham.
Bernard is truly one of the greats!
Yes, 100%, he is a legend I'm 63 and when I first heard him play some 50 years ago I was obsessed to learn his style of Drumming much much Respect Mr Purdie🥁💎🥁👏👏👏💎👏 16:44

perhaps
Love it!!
Thank you!!!
Very cool to get Bernard on the show! He's a legend! One thing that occurred to me: I play the shuffle pattern of the right hand with a drop-catch approach. In other words, I drop on the third note of the triplet and catch on the one. Some drummers do a "close-open" approach where the "close" is on the third note of the triplet and the "open" is on the one. Is there any "preferred" way to do this?
Good question. I believe you’ll find your method generally easier than the second, but I wouldn’t say one is superior… they are just different!
That being said, for this shuffle in particular I gravitate towards keeping my fingers “closed” to keep it all wrists.
@@DimitriFantini Thanks for your reply. I think I will learn both approaches just so I have all the bases covered. It certainly can't hurt to do so!
If you notice Dennis’s version has double the ghost notes 🤯 ‼️
when he does the "normal" version on the hi hat, yes! think of it as a swiss army triplet starting on the last note of the triplet, but you have to play the flam flat (in unison)!
@@DimitriFantini when will you upload the full video you did with Dennis?
@@Titogarcia82 it's live in the Drum Hub program!
Following from 6:30, inStep 3 of Percaro's examples the Drum Notation is wrong; missing the kick on last backbeat.
glad you noticed, this was intentional! You'll notice Jeff doesn't play that bass drum in his first loop. It's not audible on the record, and likely something he started adding later during live performances.
I like that shuffle but Perdie annoys me he’s a real bragger he probably heard some old timer play it and named it after himself really wouldn’t be surprised
