Peak District Walk - Thor's Cave & Manifold Dale
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 вер 2024
- In this video we head out with the DJI Phantom 4 to visit Thor's Cave in the Staffordshire part of the Peak District. We walked down Manifold Dale from Hulme End and then sent the drone up to battle with the winds of storm Doris. We headed back via Ecton Hill and the old mines.

All music by Dean Read. Footage shot with a Canon 7D with a 17-40mm lens, a RODE VideoMic Go with a Dead Cat Wind Protector, a DJI Phantom 4, an iPhone 6 Plus and it was edited in iMovie.
Nice, The arial views of Thors Cave are brilliant ! I walked theManifold trail with my son 2 years ago, and today I was under the Manifold Valley, exploring Ecton copper mines. Ilam Hall was the first ever Youth hostel I visited (In 1970).
+Malcolm Coghill Thanks for watching Malcolm. I haven't taken my daughter over to that part of the Peaks yet but will have to soon. I'd really like to go down the Ecton Mines too, I've heard about to open days but haven't researched it much. All the best, Dean
A nice walk. Great use of the drone! Stellar views of the cave relative to the surroundings.
Yet another superb video, I have to commend you, I love watching these types of UA-cam films on the outdoors such as cycling and walking, camping etc and the quality of them does "vary" (I'll leave it at that!) Yours however always hit the spot, Nicely informative, structured and narrated, whilst still showing interesting parts of the journey. I always want to visit the places that you have shown as I feel I know where to park, how long to allow, what to expect etc!! Surely the Peak District tourist board must be showering you with flowers as I can't believe that you haven't made a massive contribution to their world! Thanks again for sharing, I know there is always a world of pain in the final editing to get things as 'polished' as you get them so a job well done sir!!!
Wow this place looks beautiful defiantly on my bucket list to visit now oh thanks for the grate video
We pretty much escaped any effects of the storm in the North East.
I'd never even heard of Manifold Dale and it looks beautiful even in the Winter judging by what you've shown us here.
Well done for talking well to the camera when there were other walkers about - I find it really uncomfortable to talk to the camera when there are strangers about.
Nice drone footage at the end too.
Groovy.
Planning to do this hike soon! Thanks for a great video you showed the hike really nicely
Familiar territory there, Thor's cave is a great spot to visit 👍
Where is this place
Have fond memories of Thors cave ..the passages lead a little way in but doe.s get wetter .great place to explore ...atb ..dean ...steve
Nice to see this area again Dean, walked along some of ''this area last summer. Great shot of Thors Cave with the Drone, really adds an extra dimension to the videos. I've been toying with getting a drone myself for the same reason and each time I see something like this I feel like I must have one. Look forward to some more of your Peak District walks . Thanks for putting the video up.
Hi Dean, I've been watching your videos. My family & I went for a nice walk yesterday (new year's Day). I'd like to kindly ask you if you could make a video about the dangerous places from the Peak District to go with children.
It is a glorious place!
5:20 The Verve - A Storm In Heaven, it looks exactly like the cover it must be this place wow
great video. I've not been to thors cave before but I definitely will now.
Great walk Dean and a favourite location Wetton Mill is always worth a tea stop !
Loving these vids mate keep it up!
Great video chap. I live in Warslow so overlook thors cave approx 2 miles away. The drone footage is unreal. I'm due to take on the village pub early December. The greyhound inn Warslow. Pop in for a brew or a pint.
For a second there I thought you were going to attempt to take the drone into the cave... brave?... foolish?... skillful?... no... sensible choice for an expensive piece of kit.
Enjoyed the video and learned something new in the process. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome stuff Deano, Love the music dude, and worked so well with the drone shot high above the cave! Just amazing buddy.
The cave looked a bit slippy to escape from haha, but no broken bones or drones is always good : )
And excellent amen rinse out at the end too, always good : )
Nice one Dean great views of the cave from the air with the drone looks a lovely area round there. After my walk over chrome & parkhouse hills last week which was an amazing day out iv'e decided i need to get myself down to the white peak area a lot more.Spent years wandering all over the dark peak but not so much the white so if u've any suggestions for a grand days walking...great vid as always mate & good to see no one ended up with muddy backsides coming out the entrance lol.TFS.ATB mate..Andy.
Hi great video I love that place spend a lot of time up there as not to far from me. If I remember correctly the back of ecton was where they use to send people with smallpox or something like that. Anyway great video.
Thanks for watching 👍I'd not heard about the smallpox story so I'll have to do a bit of digging. All the best, Dean.
looking back at some of your previous treks, this one is one of my old stomping grounds. royal oak at Wetton camped in Harolds farm opposite the toilets, hang gliding on Wetton hill loads of walks around that area, thanks for sharing
Nice video Dean , nice to see the cave from up above, the. River was dry when I cycled down there last year it did look a bit strange.
Great video of what looked like a great day. It was awesome to see the cave from the air, really impressive mate. Top marks on the cave filming, a true cameraman always films regardless of the dangers, including his partners wrath 😉
Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work, ATB Mark
Can anyone share the exact Google Map grid reference for where the steps trail leading up to the cave begins please?
Brilliant video, thank you for sharing Dean!
Thanks for watching Ray... Type this into Google maps "34XW+85 Wetton, Ashbourne" and that is a spot where you can park. Walk south along the Manifold trail and you won't be able to miss the trail that heads up to the cave. You head over a bridge and then upwards. All the best, Dean.
Legend! Cheers 😎👍🏼
Brilliant video dean that cave looked a very interesting place to explore at a later date 👍 atb Craig
Great vid bro, had some destructive weather here in NZ also but mainly flooding rather than wind damage. All the best
Another great vid Dean.
Very interesting and entertaining as ever Dean :-)
Hi dean nice one mate Been there a couple of times it is spectacular the views are amazing As you say its best to go mid week you get the place to your self anyway dean till next time mate take care and best wishes to you chris
Thanks for another trip up Thor's Cave Dean. Not so easy in the wet as those rocks are so smooth. Reminds me - i must get up Ecton Hill again as last time was a wet low cloud day and I thought it would be great on a clear day. Found any good solutions for carrying the drone?
Wonderful meander
good shots again on the phantom 4 drone dean
Looked a good walk mate.. Heading to the same area next month for a bit of the same and maybe a wild camp if we fine a decent spot...ATB... Marcus
+Woodsman ocD86 Thanks for watching Marcus, there should be plenty of stealth spots for a camp not too far away :-) All the best
Brilliant drone footage, what microphone do you use? You really can't hear any wind at all, which i'm amazed at!
+MountainstoModelRailways thanks for watching. in this video I just used the onboard microphone with a wind protector called a "Micro Muff" :-) they're excellent. I do use an external microphone too and that is a Rode VideoMic Go. ATB Dean
Dean, Lion Rock is close. Have you covered that yet?
A place I've been past a few times while camping at Barracks farm, never made it to Thor's cave though, must rectify that this summer while I'm there! Have you visited the cave up from Whetton mill tea shop? I don't know the name but it's a pretty little place, worth a look if you're there again :) After your last video I looked at the phantom online, yeah, maybe a hit to the leg would be less painful haha! great video Dean, thanks :)
love the new video dean
In the 1800s the manifold valley gave the richest copper the world produced. Owned by the Duke of Devonshire.
Bro. I wish we had stuff like this where I come from. Sure, there’s the superstitions, pepper sauce cave, but no lush green hills like this. I’d kill for something like that.
Thanks for watching, i do feel very lucky to live close to areas like this. All the best. Dean
Sure thing! (I filmed a video of me inside of a cave near us, but the quality is horrible.)
Hi dean, when will you be going back to Thor's cave to venture into that hole? would love to see that video!
+NEO NOIR I'd love to go back, would need some guidance from someone who knows what they are doing I think :-)
@@DeanRead nah...
You'll be fine.
Great video 👍🏼
thanks for the share
Thanks for watching
Nice video Dean.
Went here today
Nice video, looked quite slippy there.
Wish there are places like the Peak District in the US :'(
Dean... it's not 'hulm' it's hyume (Hulme) - saxon for 'home' - and it's eye-lam for Ilam, not illam.
If you ever go to the plague village of Eyam, make sure you pronounce it 'eeem' :P
I've been to all the places mentioned but still no good at getting the pronunciation right :-) I say what I see sadly. Thanks for watching
I loved the film. I live near here and work in a limestone cave not far away.
I hear what you say about the pronunciation - I suppose if you don't hear the words before you read them, that it's open to interpretation :P
x
My grandfather in law has been walking and cycling around the Peaks for 80 years and he always knows the right way to pronounce the names... He's my fountain of knowledge on all Derbyshire subjects so regularly corrects me :-)
I've been pronouncing Eyam wrong i guess, Jay Foreman was right
Attempting to reach your standard myself making mountain bike videos! Wearing a silly wig hasn't helped 😬 I suppose. How long did it take you to over come being camera shy, if you was at all? That was however a great little video bravo!
hulme end not hulm end but great vidio
Thanks for watching Alison, it's hard to know how to pronounce a local place name when you aren't local... It's a minefield and you can't please everyone 🤣
09:12 -that area ....I recognize it from another video...someone I know when up there with their dad... Cant remember who tho.....hhmmm?????
I think it may have been Wildsoulvee who went there with her dad.....
Don't the giant White Worm live in that cave?
I’ve just come out of a tunnel too
"geocayyyyyshe"
please, Ilam is pronounced eyelam not iilam
