The fact that Sawano has his own signature sound like a Chopin or a Vivaldi solidifies to me that he’s one of, if not, the best modern day composers in the world! I really do love listening to his stuff like those old iconic composers that came way before him.
We can talk about non-context pieces all we want, but... Damn... This gave me some crazy flashbacks. What a piece. Especially the tiny little electronic giltching in there is such a crazy simple but meaningful accent on the melody that immediately sets an apocalyps (but non-scifi as it's so little and nuanced), I love that kind of stuff. Tears..
@@JayDubbs6 i will never forget On the Precipice of Defeat in connection with the scenes, or hearing it the first time. this track is something magical and so unique to this day. it made bleach so much more special. the new bleach ost doesnt come even close
There's a similarity in all of Sawano's compositions (even if I can't explain what it is) that you hear and realize “It's a Sawano song!”, but oh God, I love every one of his pieces.
"moving forward" "introspection" the stuff that this music syncs in so well with this show is absolutely insane. "REINER" "REALLY, RIGHT HERE? RIIGHT NOW!!??"
when you listen to each notes you can clearly hear that it is not just an OST but it a masterpiece within a masterpiece anime that cannot be compared to others.
First half was the desperation of seeing something so dangerous that you couldnt even fight alone, the fear of beeing submited by a thing stronger than you. The second part is the will to survive, the need to fight againts that monstrous enemy, with the fear in the throad but the courage in the heart. The flame of the human spirit
YouSeeBiggirl is a composite song of two others. The beginning is "apple seed" I believe, though I'm not sure, and then it transitions into "Vogel im Käfig", with the dial turned up to 11.
I love how he was anticipatin a drop so hard & then when it's "supposed to happen" it jus up & turns into a completely diff song from the start & his reaction is like "TF? THAT wasn't supposed to happen... Let's C how this goes" lmao
For someone who said he hasn't seen Attack on Titan, very nice analysis. You may like to hear Bakulötze. Those who have finished the anime are like to get tears. I know I cry
@6:02 I love your reaction here! Absolutely warranted! I figured out that those choral notes are the same as the chorus of the opening, which blew my mind! Love Sawano, hope to see more ❤
I love how you said you only saw 1 episode and were still able to soak in the overall tone and actions from just the music alone. I don't think there's ever been an anime that has had music draw me into scenes more than aot has
YouseebiggirlT:T gives ypu goosebumps and fear at the same time when you are completely done with show and you hear to this track every day it just reminds you all of the AOT scenes like a flash.
I'm obviously late to this, but Marco stated in a previous video that he has read most/all of the manga but has no experience with the anime, still very impressive seeing him connect pieces of music to known plot elements through analysis alone
I remember watching this show as it was airing those years ago, and thinking about just how highly its score drove its emotional beats. After my re-watch leading up to the Final Finale (Final), I found my opinion unchanged. Truly incredible stuff.
oh yeah, now Marco's gonna watch the entire AoT anime. I just know he's in for a wild ride, I love to see another one of my fav channels get into this show!!
As someone who loves these songs and listens to them quite frequently, I want to thank you for breaking them down from your perspective. I don't have a musical bone in my body, and I don't understand what the songs are even saying half the time, so hearing you break them down from a musical perspective and telling us what they are saying is amazing to me. You put the feelings and I emotions I'm feeling when listening to these songs into words, and I thank you for that.
I got back into AoT’s OST because of you, amazing ❤ The Grissini Project for Attack on Titan features a full orchestra with choir and soloists. The quality of their recording gave me goosebumps so I’d very much recommend!
I do love this OST from AOT and all the other OSTs Hiroyuki Sawano did. Not just Attack on Titan OSTs, also he did 86, Solo Leveling, Gundam Unicorn, Re:Creators, and more.
If you want a calm, full of sadness and happiness I would recommend Violet Evergarden, Violet Evergarden's soundtracks is really beautiful and always makes me wanted to teared up most of the time, also it has the same composer as Frieren beyond the journey's end (Evan Call)
Sawano is a master! One of my favourites of his songs is "The Weight of Lives" - the melodies are tragic, strong, hopeful, ... - so much emotions just through the music supported by a choir. Maybe you could react to this too. ^^ Kohta Yamamoto is a master even too; he made the most titles for the final season! My favourite songs made by him are "Traitor", "Zeek's Plan", "Splinter Wolf", "The Other Side of the Sea", "Warriors" and "Ashes on the fire".
Hey marco! First of all , love your work and analysis. Since you are from opera background, I would love to suggest Yuki Kajiura OST since it's heavily leaning towards opera kind of music. :) Keep up the awesome work!
I really hope so! "A Song Of Storm And Fire" and "Swordland" from her has been an anime anthem for decades until Attack on Titan showed up. Recently all of her work became public on UA-cam for free so copyright shouldn't be a problem.
Me sitting, waiting for the Made in Abyss arc. That entire soundtrack is peak. I don't know if you need recommendations for Sawano but 86, Re:creators and Kill la kill have some solid soundtracks.
You have to react/listen to Eighty Six - Avid, it's also made and composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, it's an insanely beautiful piece to a very underrated anime, which is personally one of my favorites I've ever watched. One of my all-time-favourites
yea just keep watching, this is what you could call a masterpiece in my book. top 1 fav anime on my list.
The fact that Sawano has his own signature sound like a Chopin or a Vivaldi solidifies to me that he’s one of, if not, the best modern day composers in the world! I really do love listening to his stuff like those old iconic composers that came way before him.
Anytime I'm listining to my anime music playlist, I can always instantly recognize his compositions, every time
To me he's one of the Triumvirat of Anime Music Gods, along with Kenji Kawai and Yuki Kajiura. Absolute fucking legends, all three of them.
Hes the Hans Zimmer of Anime
You should react to the emu project version it's amazing and they're playing live

"The Earth roars and turns red" sounds like the rumbling. Even the foreign language lyrics in the music are foreshadowing.
If u watch the openings and endings with another eyes u can tell the foreshadowing from ep 1

Always so good to see someone discover the legendary Sawano Drop.
I've seen this video months ago, so I doubt he is discovering it now
There's a similarity in all of Sawano's compositions (even if I can't explain what it is) that you hear and realize “It's a Sawano song!”, but oh God, I love every one of his pieces.

@Kobecopter96 I was in the same boat but with Solo Leveling, something in my brain just went "wait a minute this sounds familiar..."
@@JoeDay-me3gr I totally forgot about solo levelling, and yes I agree , especially during the fight between jin woo and Igris
Absolutely, I can always tell a Sawano song. Same with Yuki Kajiura, who is also amazing (though Sawano is my favorite)

i’d like to say sawano has flawlessly created his own style of music. he is definitely my favourite composer!
