Hey Doug. I´m a 52 year old man and my son introduced me to anime through Attack On Titan. I highly recommend it. the Japanese/S-East Asian art of storytelling is utilized in these series to the max and I was literally blown away by the quality of this. I´m definitely going to watch the whole series again. Each episode is around 20 minutes long with few being longer but it goes so fast you don´t notice it. Only problem with Attac On Titan is that you won´t be able to watch much other anime afterwards.... it´s like having a Rolls Royce as a first car. I would recommend some Studio Gibli anime movies as well. Spirited Away is a masterpiece and Howl´s Moving Castle another good one. Just do it. I´m pretty certain you will like it.
I'm a 39 year old man who grow up with anime as a kid myself. I have only watched one new anime since season 1 of Attack on Titan aired back in 2013. It's like you said, I feel like I finally got myself that Rolls Royce and I don't need anything else. Might suck for my kids when they grow up. They'll want to watch all sorts of things with me and I might just be that annoying dad and grumble how it's not as good as AoT 😅 .
Hiroyuki Sawano is one of the greatest composers of our time. Attack on Titan is one of the easiest animes for non anime watchers to get into and i would highly recommend it
what other animes might you recommend for non anime watchers? the ones ive watched (in this order) were death note, naruto, and now AOT. after watching AOT, idk what to watch. i got recommended hunter x hunter & parasyte: the maxim. what do you think?
@_deffed you might enjoy doing what I did which is go from Aot to Jujutsu kaisen, the action, characters and especially the animation are some of the best ever
full metal alchemist brotherhood for sure. it might be the most complete story of any anime start to finish. great show. hunter x hunter is another great one that's pretty long but if you've watched naruto you'll be fine. and this one is a little more unique but Mob Psycho 100 is an amazing anime if you want something a little more uplifting @@_deffed
My favorite song from Attack on Titan is "Vogel in Kafig" It is a two parts song. The second part is very similar to YouSeeBigGirl (but it was composed first), but the first half is more sweet and the better part to me.

There's a another UA-camr, @GOTGames, whose channel started as a music reaction channel. After a few reactions to music from various anime series, his viewers finally convinced him to watch Attack on Titan as his first anime ever. He ended up falling in love with the series and with anime in general, and converted his channel to a hybrid music/anime reaction channel, gaining him thousands upon thousands of subscribers. He ultimately quit his day job to do UA-cam full time. Attack on Titan changed this man's life. The series is that good.
@@GulluMert-ew3ks yeah, there's an upper limit for sure, but he seems like a smart guy (as a former lawyer). The smart play would be to put the bulk of his earnings into retirement portfolios and plan on retiring early.
I think you'll find Kevin Penkin's work from the Made In Abyss anime series very compelling. His music really gives gravity to the beauty and emotion of the series.
I can definitely vouch for Kevin is as well. He's also done some amazing work on other shows, but Made in Abyss is for sure his magnum opus and one of my favourite shows because of it.
Attack on Titan has entered into my top 5 list of favorite shows of all time, not just anime, but tv series period. It has mind-blowing storytelling, amazing animation, masterful music, and some of the best voice acting period. It is truly a 1 of a kind show that has made the medium of anime as popular as it is today, and is a perfect starter anime for any adult looking for something high quality and engaging. Many people compare it to Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Avengers, The Walking Dead, etc. in terms of its level of quality storytelling, popularity, and cultural impact
7:16 the electronic reflects the siren for people to evacuation - disaster is coming. Matching with the exact moment of the video when the two traitors became titans, this is a true intense emotion
Man hearing these songs just makes me emotional again. It does so much when youre watching the anime, its just amazing. I always get teary eyed hearing these osts
Attack on Titan has a total of 89 episodes. In anime, every episode is only 20 minutes (25 minutes if you include intro and outro songs, and summary of previous and next episode). However, the last 2 episodes were specials, they are 1 hour and 1,5 hour long
the first part of the track was also in the suite but with lyrics. The lyric version was used in the 3rd season and is called "appleseed". the second part of the track was again also part of the suite, without alteration. But there are a lot of phenomenal tracks in Attack on Titan that arent part of the compiltaion. So a few suggestions to check out: -Bauklötze -call of silence -the other side of the sea (same anime, but different composer for the last season) -Zero Eclipse
i second Bauklötze!! amazing track that makes me cry whenever i think of you-know-what! I'd also recommend the theme titled Attack on Titan (or ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn lol), its a truly beautiful piece in my opinion.
This was the ultimate anime betrayal revelation, the scene sticks with you long after you have watched it. " as a warrior no road left but the one that leads to the end"
I was fortunate enough to pick up AoT right when the last few chapters of.the manga were being released in Japan so I got to binge all the manga right up to the last few chapters. Then I jumped head first into the first three seasons of the anime and fell in love. Once I got my wife hooked on the show it became even more special to me. We just finished the series a few days ago and it was an emotional end but her and I will continue to revisit it in the future, I'm sure.
When you said that the music really makes you want to know what's going to happen next. The anime itself is written and directed in such a way that you are constantly left with cliffhangers and are being pushed into wanting to surge forward and learn and discover more. Glad you picked up the same kind of feeling from the score.
This is one of my favourite tracks from AoT, I could listen to it over and over. But what gives the extra flair is the context in the show and the events happening to go along with this track. Also thank you for the translations, definitely relates to the show as well
I’d highly recommend Attack on Titan as your first anime, if you’re okay with a rather crazy, dark, yet very grounded story… If you watch and care to provide reactions, I and many others would certainly enjoy watching it, as a separate playlist of content. You’d definitely bring more fans/listeners in with that type of content, as well. If not, if you prefer to continue the musical journey only- I have many suggestions but “Ashes on the Fire” is a really good piece, “Call of Silence,” and “So is est immer.”
You really should check out the tracks "Voices of the chord" , "LilaS", "Avid", "Hands up to the sky", "The answer" and "Shin" from the show "86(eighty six)" from Hiroyuki Sawano in collaboration with Kohta Yamamoto aswell. Sawano is one of the best composers doing anime music out there, he has done music for more anime shows than you could possibly imagine!
I just wanted to say, how much I appreciate the respect you give to every piece of music you listen to. Your perspective on the worlds and language, me and many others experience and understand, is novel and sparks new found appreciation and understanding of the music we have listened to throughout our lives. I love your willingness to dive with fresh eyes into those worlds and experience it alongside us. Your expertise and experience with music, always gives me something new to think about with every track. Thank you. Oh and if you ever get the opportunity, Made in Abyss and Puella Magi Madoka Magica has some incredible tracks.
Hello from Puerto Rico and thanks for this work that you do Doug, and also you still need to listen for couple of themes not previously on that medley because there was still a season of AOT coming. Anyways, the 2 themes are: Footsteps of doom and Ashes on the Fire.
Doug should also listen Attack On Titan - specifically the Levi vs you know who, with the epic vocals of Eliana and Vogel im Käfig - vocals on which I think were by Cyua.
As a composer you MUST see the symbiotic interdependent relationship between: Music, Story, Imagery/motion and feelings. It is essential to artistry and this is BEST exemplified here.
Try listening the ost of "Kill la Kill". Its composed by Hiroyuki Sawano aswell but its mood is completelly different. Anything this man does is amazing but I think this one's my favourite
So thankful for your continued foray into this genre! I think the fantastical story style of anime emboldens musicians to also push their known limits. LOVE IT🎉
I just got recommended your channel because of your anime song reactions. I have binged a few of your videos already :D Would love to see you react to all the opening songs in AOT. Anyways thank you for all the effort you put into your videos. I love that you read up on the songs you are about to listen to and the people who compose them. I'm really enjoying the videos!
@@Doug.Helvering ua-cam.com/video/euX_8PYBvr4/v-deo.html This is a youtube video with all of the openings. Warning if you plan on watching the show I do not recommend watching this video with all of the openings because they show A LOT of the show and it will be spoiled for you. I heavily recommend watching this show I think it is the best anime so if you don't watch any others you at least got away with watching the best of the best.
This is genuinely one of the best soundtracks I have ever heared, and it underlines the watching experience and the story of AOT so beautifully and seamlessly. Just hearing a piece gets me all in my emotions and puts me back to my first time watching it! Hiroyuki Sawano is incredibly masterful with his craft and I have - no lie - never heard a piece that he was involved with that didn't fucking floor me. Of course AOT is a huge and long-spanning series, but the way the OST is composed reminds me of How To Train Your Dragon, as in there are certain themes and melodies that you will encounter again and again in different variations, and they can feel distinctly different. To me that is the mark of an amazing soundtrack
so glad that you decided to check out some more aot! this soundtrack gives me chills every single time i listen to it, both because of how well-made it is and because of the memories of what happens in the show while this ost is playing. i would 100% recommend watching aot. its without a doubt one of the best pieces of fiction of our time with a very iconic soundtrack and i genuinely believe that everyone should be able to experience this masterpiece.
Sidenote. Id watch every single episode if you did a reaction video. Please do it! Your mind would be so interesting to listen to while going through the roller-coaster that is AOT
Love your videos, Doug. You remind me a lot of my college jazz instructor both in appearance and personality. Your reactions are always quite entertaining and this episode was no exception. Keep doing what you're doing 👍
This really transported me back to Season 2. That not only speaks of the sheer amount of genius behind this composition but also of the production's decisions of when to use this track in the show.
hey Doug, I've seen a couple of your videos here and there and decided to comment today, this anime changed my life, the way I see anime and pieces of media/series/movies completely. Listening and watching the way you react to this makes me so happy that more and more people are getting exposed to this absolute masterpiece of a series. Hopefuly you give it a watch one day
There are several reoccurring musical themes and melodies throughout the scoring of the 4 seasons of the show, some versions have lyrics, some don't, youseebiggirl is a compilation of 3 other songs. I think in the 4 'seasons' there are something like 87 half hour episodes, plus the last 2 'speicals' are combined episodes of 2 and 3 respectively. season 1 had 25, season 2 had 12, season 3 had 23 and season 4 had 30 plus the 2 aforementioned specials that tie 2 and 3 episdes into each special. There are also some supplementary episodes that were direct to dvd releases between the 4 year release gap from season 1 to season 2. The time continuity in world between the first 2 seasons is instant, something to keep in mind for later. There's a recommended order to view those supplements if you want to stay spoiler free for maximum shock value, they are back stories to certain characters and events that don't fit in the seasonal continuity of the show. I'm sure the other commenters will give you the proper instructions if you decide you want to watch it. It's a great show to start off as your first anime and also the worst. It's likely that no other show will live up to it.
Attack on Titan is definitely a show that you should start watching… Even if you don’t like the way it starts, it then evolves into something so much deeper, that honestly I dare to say it’s maybe a life-changing experience… There have been really just a couple of shows/series that had such an impact on me, and one of them is definitely Attack on Titan… I hope you someday start watching, I can’t imagine you’ll regret. This show is a masterpiece
I find a lot of Japanese music to be much more adventurous in its chord/melodic structures. At least more so than typical pop chords we get in the U.S.
@@bradenneff9640 it could be much gorier though. It’s still got bones, mutilation, blood, suicide, burning to death, and endless killing, the first season will ruin your ability to trust any character to stay alive.
Youseebiggirl/T:T…. I always thought that the second part is basically the embodiment of a Soldier’s melancholy and sense of duty. The tone, the lyrics… its all very heartwrenching. Also the fact that the drums of the second part did not stop… wardrums accompanying a march, essentially.
I'm not really much into anime and think everyone should watch AoT (subtitled). It's that good and one of the only shows where I also believe that a re-watch is not just worth it but even mandatory because of how certain spoilers stretch through the entire show, starting in the first episode (you wouldn't know without context though). And yes, of course start in episode 1, always watch until the To Be Continued screen but not further and make sure to not look anything up. You probably already got spoiled by things for the music reactions because this is by far the most spoiler heavy show I know of. Reaction format for it would be favorable of course. :)
PSYCHO-PASS (2012) the first series starring: Seki Tomokazu as Kōgami Shinya & Sakurai Takahiro as Makishima Shogo. Composer: Kanno Yugo. Songs by: Ling Tosite Sigure (TK's band), Nothing's Carved in Stone & EGOIST. It's one of those "thinking required" shows. A Sci-fi series based in an utopian society. Code Geass (2006 - 2008; 2019) starring: Fukuyama Jun as Lelouch Lamperouge, Sakurai Takahiro as Kururugi Suzaku, Koshimizu Ami as Kouzuki Kallen & Yukana as C.C.. Composers: Nakagawa Kotaro & Kuroishi Hitomi. Also Sci-fi (ish) with mecha. 86 -Eighty-Six- (2021-2022) 2 seasons composed by Sawano Hiroyuki & KOHTA Yamamoto. Songs by Sawano Hiroyuki feat. mizuki, Sawano Hiroyuki feat. Gemie & Sawano Hiroyuki feat. Takahashi Honoka. Based on a sci-fi military action light novel series written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabi. Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer (2019-) we've had 4 seasons, a movie and a 5th season starting in April. Starring: Hanae Natsuki as Tanjiro, Kitou Akari as Nezuko, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Inosuke & Shimono Hiro as Zenitsu. Composers: Shiina Go & Kajiura Yuki. Songs by: LiSA, FictionJunction feat. LiSA, Aimer, Man With a Mission x milet & My First Story x Hyde. A supernatural series involving yokai (demons). A 23 volume manga series. If you watched SnK (Attack on Titan) in Japanese you'd know that Hanae played Falco & Shimono played Connie. Kaji Yuki who was Eren had a small but important part in the first series. Trigun Stampede (2023). Some fans of the original anime series didn't really like this one. I've seen the original and I liked this one more. The animation is different, which was a turn off for some people. Nightow enjoyed it. So if the creator doesn't have a problem with it why should anyone else? Composed by Kato Tatsuya. Starring Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Vash, Hosoya Yoshimasa as Nicholas, Andou Sakura as Meryl & Ikeda Junya as Millions Knives. Based on a post-apocalyptic gun-action manga by Naitou Yasuhiro. Oh btw it was a prequel. ANother side note: Hosoya played Reiner in AoT Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (2015-2016) Because I think every recommendation list needs a Gundam series and this one's my favourite. Starring (and I'm not bias) Hosoya Yoshimasa as Orga, Kawanishi Kengo as Mika & Hanae Natsuki as Biscuit. Composed by Yokoyama Masaru. Songs of note by: Man With a Mission, Spyair, Granrodeo & uru. Guilty Crown (2011) starring Kaji Yuki as Shu & Nakamura Yuuichi as Gai. Composed by Sawano Hiroyuki. Songs of note by: Egoist & supercell. Inserts featuring: Kobayashi Mika, mpi, Aimee Blackschleger & Boom Boom Satellites. Sci-fi series. An original anime. I could go on for years likely.
About how I'm obsessed with composers, Japanese music, & seiyuu (Japanese voice actors) and that I really, truly, 99.9% of the time pick what anime to watch based on who does the music and the seiyuu in them? (I don't read the plot) I also probably should have mentioned: Tokyo Ghoul (2014) it had an amazing soundtrack too with Yamada Yutaka composing. Followed by Tokyo Ghoul √A (2015). Featured likely one of the most known Openings "unravel" by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure. Starring Hanae Natsuki as Kaneki. The manga readers didn't like it, but I've never read it. It's followed by Tokyo Ghoul:re but I haven't watched it completely yet. That's the problem with anime there are too many choices of things to watch. With every genre imaginable. I've been watching anime for a long time now. Not to date myself but I first got introduce to anime when I went off to college by a friend of a classmate. That anime was Cowboy Bebop on VHS. It was in English. Steven J Blum played Spike. He's a pretty amazing VA I follow him on twitter. I mean sure i watched Digimon & Sailor moon (censored to hell), which are obviously anime, but they aren't like what I can get now. Or even a few years later after the Cowboy Bebop intro (which btw I still haven't watched it completely even though everyone says its amazing). I prefer watching anime (and Video Games) in Japanese. There's just more feeling and emotion in it. My favourite Suite by Sawano Hiroyuki on YT is “MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM UNICORN” suite - ua-cam.com/video/ir_PRErPnb0/v-deo.htmlsi=dir_UxifNEdPm2g7 KOHTA's on the Synthesizer & Sawano's of course on the piano. Gundam Unicorn is an anime i bought the music for before watching the series. Just because Sawano was the composer.
Guilty Crown was when I was first introduced to Hiroyuki Sawano. Fell in love with him since and Guilty Crown will always have that special place in my heart for being the anime that gave me my favourite composer ever.
I would recommend Hiroyuki Sawano's work from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn next if you like his work. It is similarly a sweeping symphonic sound but is quite a different take on it. Loved the video!
Please keep it up with the Attack On Titan content!!! You really need to give Kingdom of Predators from HunterxHunter. It’s applauded as one of the best anime soundtracks of all time.
This track is my favourite from the series and maybe from anime as a whole - there's a previous version of th8is track titled "Vogel im Kafig" (Bird in a Cage) but I think this one with the synth in there feels a bit more powerful. This version in particular is associated with an extremely pivotal moment in the show which in itself attaches such strong emotions to the song that I can't help but get hyped up when I hear it. Very much enjoyed your evaluation of this and I hope to hear more in future!
Absolutely check out the show! I can't recommend it enough, my favourite piece of fiction ever. I also suggest watching with the original Japanese voice actors rather than the dub, assuming you are content with subtitles. P.S. Amazing reaction, this would be so cool if you react to Kevin Penkin OST for the Made in Abyss anime, he's clearly up there with Sawano but the music and arrangements that Penkin makes are so out of there and emotional that it needs to be reviewed by you. Keep up the good work, can't wait to watch your next videos 👍
The text in the end. „MIT Trauer und Entscheidung im Herzen“ rather means „With hearts filled with sorrow and determination“ Entscheidung means Choice literally, but in that context it means determination.
I really love your reactions, here are some other AOT ost I recommend (watch out some of the videos might have spoilers if you're planning on watching the show) AOTF s1 Splinter Wolf Footsteps Of Doom Traitor Ashes On The Fire
Man, you MUST react to the Dark Souls 3 Main Menu Theme! It is like the requiem of our times. One of the best (the best to my liking) OST in video game history.
This anime show is a masterpiece with an impressive story and characters development, the animation and the music in this are simply awesome, even though you're not familiar with watching animes o think you'd like this one because Shingeki no Kyojin story is really deep and involving. I really enjoy your videos with technical comments on every music you analyze, I'm total dummy technically to music, but I still love it, obviously, also, I love hearing from someone who understands more so I can learn! Thanks a lot!
Attack on Titan is a great show, i highly recommend it. On another note: i have a great anime soundtrack to reccomend: "Requiem of Silence" from Re: Zero. It is such a unique peace and I would love for you to dissect it, especially because i wouldnt get the inspiration for it. It's a 7 minute piece, something quite unusual for a anime soundtrack in my opinion.
Love the commentary and analysis from a musical theory perspective, certainly not something I've encountered very often. What I think that is missed out when purely listening to the music however, is the context and the setting of the scene in which this song is played in Season 02 of AOT. Without giving anything away, the protagonist and his group are tired and have just overcome a grueling challenge that they have not managed to escape unscathed. Their morale was wavering, as were their determination, when a revelation occurred that involves a regretful betrayal, leading straight into an epic battle which was the climax of the season. This song was paced in such a way to coincide with the story developments, which explains some of the features like the direct that was mentioned. The lyrics further add to the gravitas of the scene, as each one of concepts raised represent the various character development stages that the group has gone through to reach that point of the story. To truly appreciate the depth of this piece, one will need to go through the entire story up until that point as it all converges into this masterful arrangement. Highly recommend watching AOT from start to finish, even if you're just watching to see how the music was crafted for the show. A word of warning though, while it's considered mainstream, there are a few brutal/violent scenes in AOT that some people may find disturbing.
I love how after her big note in the second half of the song, when she starts singing again all of the string instruments harmonize with her, almost just as loud as her like they're about to drown her out but she sings slightly louder
Doug, this OST provides some of the most impactful moments in the show. When this song is playing, IT IS GOING DOWN IN THE SHOW. highly recommend trying to watch it if you’re wanting to put show with music.
attack on titan series background and culture is heavily inspired by the 19th century germany until early 20th century germany, this is why the composer use a german language for the song lyric
The series is filled with countless ost´s that catch you completely off guard. Sometimes its not even music, its just sounddesign in the background that progresses into a song and its so unique. Getting into the series I had no Idea it was gonna have such a unique ost which made watching it so fun cause I was blown away by how vibrant and out of this world the sounddesign is. I recommend listening to ``army go`` or ``2chi`` from season 1 ost
I enjoyed your genuine reaction! I wonder how it really is for people who listen to epic anime/game ost for the first time. Maybe it's close to my reaction when I first heard Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture from watching V for Vendetta and falling in love it. Also I recommend Final Fantasy XIV for game music! Have fun discovering more 😊
The reason the beginning sounds familiar is because for season 3, they made a new version with lyrics. You heard that version in the Attack on Titan Suite. It's Apple Seed.

Thata crazy but doing UA-cam full time is a death sentence
@@GulluMert-ew3ks yeah, there's an upper limit for sure, but he seems like a smart guy (as a former lawyer). The smart play would be to put the bulk of his earnings into retirement portfolios and plan on retiring early.
loved those aot reactions from got games omg !
I love g.o.t games !!
I think you'll find Kevin Penkin's work from the Made In Abyss anime series very compelling. His music really gives gravity to the beauty and emotion of the series.
Made in Abyss OST is SO GOOD
he would definitely love those tracks!
I can definitely vouch for Kevin is as well. He's also done some amazing work on other shows, but Made in Abyss is for sure his magnum opus and one of my favourite shows because of it.
I’d love to watch him listen to “Old Stories” or maybe “Segur”
Yes yes Kevin penkin!!!!
Another amazing track from Hiroyuki Sawano is Bauklötze. Its also from attack on titan and is personally my favorite track from the show.
Every time I hear this I get goosebumps, hopefully this will be forever the case.
我今年41歲,從小到大看了無數動漫作品,進擊的巨人是我看過所有作品中毫無疑問的No.1
Cant agree more
I recommend HXH
You're god damn right bro
100% agree. AoT is a masterpiece.
Best written show ive ever seen. Period. The story already makes sense, then plot twists recontextualize past events to make MORE sense
So a few suggestions to check out:
-Bauklötze
-call of silence
-the other side of the sea (same anime, but different composer for the last season)
-Zero Eclipse
i second Bauklötze!! amazing track that makes me cry whenever i think of you-know-what! I'd also recommend the theme titled Attack on Titan (or ətˈæk 0N tάɪtn lol), its a truly beautiful piece in my opinion.
Before Light Out is the 2nd song in the suite. That's my favorite lol
I'd add 2Volt

AOT is a masterpiece anyone can enjoy, and the music transcends it to a whole other level.
Love that we're checking out orchestral anime! There are some fantastic compositions in the modern anime world.
Can't wait to hear more from Doug!
Also, would be fantastic to hear your take on Moonlight Sonata and Lacrimosa from season 4 of Attack on Titan. Fantastic arrangements.
(the arrangements mentioned above are fanmade, by Samuel Kim on UA-cam)
Kiseki no umi, from Record of Lodoss Wars, by Yoko Kanno. Mindblowing timeless masterpiece
This was the ultimate anime betrayal revelation, the scene sticks with you long after you have watched it.
" as a warrior no road left but the one that leads to the end"
At this point you have to listen to Footsteps of Doom now

he needs to listen to Ashes on The Fire and True History as well imo
and ashes on the fire
And an ordinary day. There's too many lmao
Keep moving forward 👍
Shinzo Sasageyo and always keep moving foward. *cries in a corner*
I agree if he has a chance he needs to check these out!!!
nice recommendation!
Kohta Yamomoto is also another amazing composer.
86 is my favourite anime. I love the soundtrack so much, I really hope Doug gets to it one day
Don't forget MKaLIEz
I just wanted to say, how much I appreciate the respect you give to every piece of music you listen to. Your perspective on the worlds and language, me and many others experience and understand, is novel and sparks new found appreciation and understanding of the music we have listened to throughout our lives. I love your willingness to dive with fresh eyes into those worlds and experience it alongside us. Your expertise and experience with music, always gives me something new to think about with every track. Thank you.
Oh and if you ever get the opportunity, Made in Abyss and Puella Magi Madoka Magica has some incredible tracks.
The music blends into the story perfectly. You absolutely have to be watch the show to truly understand and appreciate the music.
Why are you outing our island like that🤨
@greencustoms6980 He should know he has followers from across the globe, no offense.
LOVE IT🎉

Imo the best show of all time- regardless of live action or animated
Bro, I just love how open minded this dude is. Looking at anime as an opportunity to learn more about music. Awesome! Keep it up.
so glad that you decided to check out some more aot! this soundtrack gives me chills every single time i listen to it, both because of how well-made it is and because of the memories of what happens in the show while this ost is playing.

This really transported me back to Season 2. That not only speaks of the sheer amount of genius behind this composition but also of the production's decisions of when to use this track in the show.

@official_goudhelvering Omg look you guys, it’s the real Goud Helvering
Watch it man. Amazing storytelling, incredible music
“Are we doing this? Right now?” I can’t hear this song without choking up a bit
I've been looking forward to this since you started on your anime arc
I find a lot of Japanese music to be much more adventurous in its chord/melodic structures. At least more so than typical pop chords we get in the U.S.
Now all Doug needs to do is hear the Ace Combat and Project Aces OSTs!
Amazing review Doug keep it up, you also might like AOT anime a lot. ^^
Great reaction. Next, hopefully, is ashes on the fire and/or footsteps of doom
One thing to note is that Attack on Titan is quite brutal, and somewhat includes gore. Just in case that’s not your cup of tea
Also crazy amounts of death
Describing aot as “somewhat” gory is crazy😂😂
@@bradenneff9640 i mean, you don’t really see any guts or anything like that. Most of the detailed gore is hidden

We need MORE ATTACK ON TITAN REACTIONS! ♥
Hiroyuki Sawano is a genius
Probably, this is one of the most gentle and intelligent music reactions on UA-cam )
4:24 It's the same tune with the tune of “light and shadow." Yeah, both are still Hiroyuki’s songs.
ANother side note: Hosoya played Reiner in AoT
Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans (2015-2016) Because I think every recommendation list needs a Gundam series and this one's my favourite.
(I don't read the plot)
I also probably should have mentioned: Tokyo Ghoul (2014) it had an amazing soundtrack too with Yamada Yutaka composing.
Its amazing that you give us the lyrics.
Epica did an album based on Attack on Titan songs ...sounds amazing, you should give it a try
Should check out Grissini Project's version of the AoT suite at the Stockholm Concert Hall. Full performance is available on youtube!
Yeah it hit different when the native German speaker sing the lyrics
(The Japanese singer still did a great job)
AS A WARRIOR, NO ROAD LEFT BUT THE ONE THAT LEADS TO THE END

The text in the end. „MIT Trauer und Entscheidung im Herzen“ rather means „With hearts filled with sorrow and determination“ Entscheidung means Choice literally, but in that context it means determination.

6:24 The words quite literally tell you what is happening in season 2 and when the song is played. Especially heavy on the betrayal part.
Highly recommend songs from the anime Ergo Proxy. It's such an underrated anime, albeit an older one now but the music is haunting.

It is like the requiem of our times. One of the best (the best to my liking) OST in video game history.
I would love to watch your reactions to this show. It’s honestly the most intricate and well written show I’ve ever seen.
His mixture of classical composition with modern digital tools is class. The use of synth in his orchestral work is unlike any other
This anime show is a masterpiece with an impressive story and characters development, the animation and the music in this are simply awesome, even though you're not familiar with watching animes o think you'd like this one because Shingeki no Kyojin story is really deep and involving.
I really enjoy your videos with technical comments on every music you analyze, I'm total dummy technically to music, but I still love it, obviously, also, I love hearing from someone who understands more so I can learn! Thanks a lot!
So happy to see you checking out aot again, hope you do decide to give it a watch or react to more aot music, it’s an incredible show!
This is the best AoT song in the soundtrack IMHO. The melody for the strings part is just beautiful.
"whose memories are these?"
Can’t wait to see you reacting to splinter wolf!!!
Everything that came together in this show was pure art and the OST is no different.
Thanks for starting to dig into anime. I think for something a little different, and also to celebrate his 70th anniversary, you should do Akirka Ifukube Godzilla March.
Dude, I love your dissection of the song.
