I actually got to talk with Tak voice actor(Jason Marsden) at momocon this year, and I asked why he wasn’t the Tak cartoon, which was apparently because he didn’t want audition for role he already knew how to do .
Although I love Jason's Take on Tak Hal knocked it out of the Park he made Tak sound like a teen whereas Jason made him sound like a Pre-teen during puberty a natural voice progression if u ask me
I always remember being so confused when I saw the Tak cartoon, since I just remembered Tak as that obscure platformer series from the previous generation. Then they started slapping his face on everything and really tried to sell him as the next Spongebob or Fairly Odd Parents
The show is what destroyed Tak’s incredible legacy unfortunately! People need to remember Tak from his first three games and forget anything that came from the show! Avalanche Software games were really masterpieces in my and many others eyes! :)

@@crustykeycap5670 nope the Avalanche Software trilogy came first and the original trilogy of games is completely different from the show! The show has a completely different universe lore and even voice actors! Stick with Avalanche Softwares trilogy of Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge those games are an amazing masterpiece while the show killed Tak’s incredible video game legacy!
The story behind the making of the show is more interesting than the show itself. Besides it being Nick's first in-house CG series, it also went through a lot of showrunners. They eventually promoted the story editor to showrunner just to finish it, and he mentioned it was probably the roughest production he worked on. Afterwards, he moved on to Warner Bros. to work on Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.
@@Gamingwithahandicap I don't think the show helped, but I think it was always doomed after Avalanche got bought off and Nick was losing interest anyway.
@@GamerSlyRatchet1 Avalanche wanted to make a Tak 4 but they no longer could because of how they got bought out, now since THQNordic mentioned a remake fans have to step up to make it happen! Tak was the most successful Nickelodeon game ever and I think the original Tak Trilogy deserves a remake and they have there place, I personally think there best 3D platformers that’s not like Mario Sonic or Crash and I think they have more heart then something like sly Cooper or ratchet, but again that’s more of my opinion. I think if Tak was the exact same game but just made by Naughty Dog for example people would praise Tak! But Tak was never a Nickelodeon project they just unfortunately funded Avalanche and it was Nickelodeon who ruined Tak’s incredible legacy because of the tv show the original trilogy does not connect with the show what so ever
I would say it was a hit until the tv show killed Tak’s incredible legacy! Tak 1-3 did the Crash approach one per year and to me Avalanche Softwares original Tak trilogy is a masterpiece for me personally
This character HAD potential! That's why he has appeared in Nickelodeon crossover games and his own TV show. The problem was how Nickelodeon handled the IP.
I will never forgive this series, since I got in trouble for saying it took place in the "Pupanunu Tribe" back in Kindergarten. Same year I lost points for spelling "Jak" wrong. In all seriousness, great video! Used to play the trilogy a lot when they were new. Haven't played them in forever, but this was a good history lesson on it. It also makes me glad I never played Tak 4, which I was somewhat interested in playing before it came out, I just never did.
J you should do a review on Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge! Would love to hear your thoughts on this amazing trilogy! I just hope THQNordic fulfills the promise of a remake! I think Tak is way better than Jak or Sly in my opinion! THQNordic needs to #bringTakback :)
@@TheBlueLink3 you can have your opinion but to me it’s the biggest disappointment I’ve ever played! Tak 1-3 were masterpieces but anything based off the show was garbage in my opinion. There never was a true Tak 4 unfortunately
Funnily enough a designer from the first God of War actually worked as "Creative Manager" on Guardians of Gross and he was the one that asked the devs to include GoW-ish elements like executions. Also one designer said it was made in seven months and its lead director who had made three games before this never directed another game again. Yeah it was a ride.
There is something so powerful within me attached to Tak. Especially the Dream World. Whenever I see any of it, Nostalgia brings me back to an age of playing the GameCube and enjoying myself at home. I'm happy to have come across such an incredible franchise. I feel honored and blessed even. I wish it got so much more love. I'd kill for a new game 😭 at least a remaster!

Just to talk about tak 3, the reason that traloc is helping tak is because he is still part of the pupununu tribe and there is dialogue in the game stating that jibolba and traloc won the last juju challenge for the pupununu people
Very interesting seeing a video on Tak in 2022. But I agree. Tak 2 was one of my favorite underlooked platformers from that era. And has actually aged decently well, unlike the first game which aged like milk.

@@stupiddumboidiot1 While I do agree Tak 1 had a more unique structure with its backtracking nature and progression routes. My issues with it comes from the godawful combat and some of the actual level layouts being a huge mess. The game having no invincibility frames when your hit is one of the worst design choices ever
This video just unlocked a part of my childhood i had totally forgotten about. I played every single one of these games when i was a kid - ty, tak, kao, scaler... awesome video!

Say what you want about Mr Enter, but he brought up an excellent observation regarding the Tak series during his review of the cartoon: *"I remember Tak and the Power of Juju being this really big franchise that came like, out of nowhere back in the mid-2000s. Right out of nowhere there were games, toys, and of course, a cartoon. The franchise was almost inescapable for a short period of time. Even if you didn't watch the show or play the video games, you at least heard about it. And then one day the franchise completely vanished and nobody ever talked about it again."*
@@Treetops27 The problem is that it wasn't a point he was making, just a statement. The actual point he made was blaming the failure of the franchise on being shoved down people's throats like a fad.
@@Treetops27 Are you saying that because it was popular to say that a few years ago, or are you saying that because you actually have watched him and you don't like his content? @@cheeseboi588 I literally watched several of his videos in like 2012 or just after whenever he started and it was mostly wack takes back then too (even though I agreed with the general sentiment about the episodes/shows he was reviewing). Dude it's CRAZY how this studio is now making hogwarts legacy. All controversy of thag game aside, it's wild to look at the path that this studio has had. It's also interesting to wonder if it's really the same studio at all anymore, given how much has changed over the years
Tak and the Power of Juju was one of my first games as a child. It holds a special place in my heart and I will always replay it every couple of years. It's area system always felt as open as it needed to be and the cutscenes in between were really fun to watch. Not to mention the music! I absolutely love the soundtrack of the first game, but all three are pretty good. The overall themes and vibes of Tak may not be all that original, but I personally have never found another game to be quite like it. Unique settings, neat powerups, pleasing music to fit the atmosphere, and charming characters that are goofy for kids.

That Nick basketball game is something I had as a kid and was genuinely my only exposure to Tak. Never saw the cartoon or knew about the games so I thought he was made specifically to ball

Okay but one thing no one mentions is the banger that is the music. Chicken Island is so good that they included it on the main menu screen of tak 1. The music is one of the reasons why I think it has done well after all these years. Like something about the tribal grooves and rock n rollin is so good

I remember when I was a kid I found this weird hidden cave on chicken island west during a glide section between cliffs. You had to fly to the right and go around a bend and inside was a detailed painting of a monkey, nothing else and the only way out was the water where jellyfish kill you. It was so strange and kind of crept me out, even today I have no idea why it was there. I imagine the game is hiding even more caves similar to this just I never found them.
I know the original Tak Trilogy was way ahead of it’s time in a lot of areas! I’m hoping the remake does happen just imagine how amazing everything would look THQNordic needs to #bringTakback
I fondly remember that fish killing lok joke. As for the show, I remember watching it late at night when they didn't air anything else and hate every second of it.
Tak mojo mistake is actually is pretty solid & more aligned with the tak trilogy than guardians of gross, even flora( a character from the trilogy) makes an appearance. It's not a must play, but I recommend you try it out if you have the time.
From the time I was a kid until the last time I played it about 12 years ago, I always found the first Tak game to be an aesthetically pleasing, sonically original, zen-like experience that can sometimes become obtuse (primarily the tree village). It definitely lays it all out for you tutorial wise, but when I was very young, that just felt normal. It certainly does more than it needs to, because Ratchet and Clank almost has no tutorial moments, just a handful of notifications when necessary. I definitely like Jak & Daxter more, but Tak shares a lot of commonalities with the first Jak game that I equally appreciated. Just that right amount of mystery to the lore and world that keeps me mentally engaged beyond the gameplay and plot.
Out of the four games up to and including the release of Tak 4 made by Blitz, Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge still holds up as a fun expansion on the gameplay of the 1997 remake of Frogger. The sad part was it came out three years after the boom of early arcade remakes for the 5th gen console just in time to be out on the PS1 and Dreamcast when it came to consoles.
I never got to play the games, but I watched some of the show. It's always sad seeing concepts with great potential get so wasted. Great video as always
I was always bummed out that I never got to beat the Laboratory level when I was younger, after watching the video im genuinely happy I didn't. The first couple of levels are so memorable and were great memories, and to know the last couple of levels aren't as good is kinda sad. Great video keep it up!
I miss the GameCube era that Tak called home. This is the kind of mascot platformer you never see nowadays. With so many games not even bothering to try anything new this is kind of important to cherish games like this and to recommend this level of creativity from developers who will give something new a chance.
You should check out his Ratchet Retrospective series. I’ve never played any of the games but his videos on the series are some of my favorite videos on the platform, and he’s made me want to try the games out.
Tak made me the man I am today. Why, his advice has gotten me out of some tough situations. I'll never forget his words of wisdom: "When in doubt, take the stick out." Truly, words to live by.
I actually loves the final half of the second game XD like it's just huge and open and wild. It feels like the first and second half feels like it's reflective of the staff itself. Being two different types of games in one
I love everything about the second game I feel like bolt was a little to hard on the game like Lok was supposed to just show up randomly in the end because you know it’s a dream and dreams are weird lol
@@Gamingwithahandicap exactly! Like it was just really fun. I remember LOVING it as a kid. It's also really weird that Tak 2 doesn't have a level select of any kind. I love the game, but it sure would be great if I could replay individual stages after beating them.
My biggest pet peeve in gaming. The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction was infuriating for this reason. If you wanted to replay certain missions, you had to have a save for that specific level ready to go and keep playing without saving.
the music in Tak was always fire, it had so many sweet elements from both traditional tribal music to hard rock and metal that really transported you to a different world and the skyboxes honestly created a really go illusion of vastness for me as a kid making it really feel like I was in a much bigger place.
The music in the original three Tak games was legendary! Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams being my favorite soundtrack one of my favorite soundtracks ever actually! This series is one of those collections of games that have been sitting on my ODE for years and I keep telling myself “you’ll get around to it, someday”. In other words, games like this reinforce my decision to get out of physically collecting games. There are just so many games in this world, both new and old, that you just can’t play them all. I’ve almost had to give up ever playing a JRPG ever again. That’s where UA-cam fills in. I feel like watch a in detail video like this is the second best thing to playing it myself. Hey, we're the same age! Very cool. I rented one of the Tak games as a kid and definitely have fond memories of the experience, this was an interesting watch as your videos always are. Keep up the great work!
The Great Juju Challenge was one of my favorite games to play through with my brother and we actually got super close to completing it after so long of it seeming so unbeatable (we didn't know we had to use the bees to distract the crocodiles for a looooong time). And even then, that last demolition derby match was so bullshit we just quit. Sad that the last game didn't seem particularly good either cause I was always interested in it, too.
Saved to my favorites. Thank you for making such an in-depth look at this series. My brother and I grew up playing Tak 2 & 3 and yet I didnt even know they made a fourth game.
The fourth one is not Tak 4 it’s based off of the tv show and the show is a completely different universe and lore and even voice actors! I hope THQNordic remakes Tak 1-3 because the trilogy is GOATED especially Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams!
That whole introduction honestly just made me sad. Ty and Klonoa are fantastic games, and honestly, I LOVE collectathon platformers and was really sad when they started dying, even at the time. It's not a matter of growing up, I know what I enjoy, and what I enjoy is being dropped in an interesting world, given some unique traversal mechanics, being told there's stuff to find, and basically being left to my own devices, I'm fine with a loose, fun, cartoony story to keep me going. Any game where I play as a human has to bend over backwards to get my attention, killing a bunch of other humans as a common objective is something I will not touch, and if jumping isn't a mechanic, it's a really hard sell for me. I've always felt this way, and I always will. I enjoyed the first Tak game, and while I'll admit it hasn't aged well, it's still a decent collectathon platformer. The second game just makes me angry, and I didn't know there was a third one. I thought this video was going to be about the cartoon, which was enjoyable but clearly had no idea where it was going; I'm not interested in hearing about the development of the games, the first one was good on its own and the second one makes me want to burn things, so I bowed out of here after the introduction, sorry.
Personally I think the Tak trilogy is better than the Ty trilogy, to me Tak has better gameplay stories music characters writing and voice acting and graphics. To me Tak will always be the GOAT 🐐 in underrated 3D platformers and I think Tak just aged far better.
Tak 1 and 2 have no business being as good as they are. I'll still boot it up on my PS2 and start a brand new game, and I find it super hard to get bored of them. The art design is just gorgeous to look at and holy shit the music. No idea how they made music this good for both of the games. Absolute classics from my childhood and I love them both.
I think the whole trilogy’s fantastic! You can really see the care and attention Avalanche Software put in the original trilogy and it shows! That’s why fans want a remake because the original Tak trilogy deserves it! Let’s hope THQNordic listens to fans! THQNordic needs to #BringTakback
I ‘beat’ the original game with cheat codes back when I was 11, and now 23 years later I’m knuckling down and replaying it properly. All in all, it’s a breath of air from the disease-ridden cesspit of the modern AAA market. There are a couple of odd design choices, sure, but coming back to the PS2 era has really reminded me why I actually love to game.
While I enjoyed playing Tak and the Power of Juju when it first came out, my most fond memory of the game was when my dad said, in his best video game commercial voice, "TAK, AND THE POWER OF POOPOO". Other than that I remember very little about the game itself.
Okay seriously Tak getting the remake/remaster treatment would be a perfect idea “Tak: The Juju collection” • All 3 games included • as many of the original voices as possible • many bells and whistles, new or cut content Just sayin it would be great

1:04:55 to the end, has to be my favorite point. In my opinion, I believe that if you love something, set it free. … While I would definitely be happy to see Tak given the “ReHyrdated” treatment, I can agree that it may be difficult to recapture that same vision of the series, 20+ years ago. … I felt the same way playing Sly 4. It’s a good game but I personally didn’t feel like it recaptured enough of the “original essence” of the trilogy. Even some fans of Crash Bandicoot series were unsatisfied with the high difficulty of completing Crash 4. … As for Tak, while I still think it’s possible for a remake or reboot, it might be best to let the series remain as a good memory of our childhoods.
Yeah it's hard to really put into words what these remastered games are missing. It's like they somehow miss their original charm. Though I'd say the SpongeBob game did a great job, I still had a blast playing it. Sly 4 was also still fun, but definitely nowhere near the originals, specifically sly 2 and 3. But it wasn't the sly game we had expected after like 8 years or so. Like I need a new jak game, but I also know it will never be as good as the original 3. Crash 4 can lick my left and right nut though. Fuck that game.
Outside of the generally polished game feel and the solid A to B platforming level design utilizing quantum masks the rest of crash 4 ranges from meh/questionable/nothingburger to downright poor. You know it's bad when PS1 games (particularly warped) does a better job in how it presents its content while rewarding the player without having them go through so much bs *just* for an ending cutscene.
@@TerrorOfTalos honestly I think one of crash 4's biggest issue was how long the levels were. It shouldnt take +20 minutes to get through a level. Then to top off the long levels, the difficulty was so much harder than the other games. So for some of the levels it felt like it would just fucking drag on. The graphics are visually pleasing, but way too busy for a platformer. Half of the time i wouldnt even be able to see what had killed me. I ended up stopping my playthrough about 3/4 of the way through because I just got bored and frustrated.
@@Morgorath30 Yeah I agree, I'd say just going through the levels was a decent enough experience and the quantum masks introduced to spice up the platforming were overall solid but holy shit I can't even imagine actually wanting to go out of my way to fully complete most of those levels, *especially* those snack city ones like wtf. I thought difficulty in terms of obstacles/hazard placement were competent (with a few exceptions) alongside the enemies but you notice that to "solve" the depth perception issue they had to use that floating yellow circle; which is on by default? I swear without it the game would be damn near unplayable in many areas (people complaining about that aspect before release now must be really glad it's in the game). TfB must've known this too (most likely from play testers) as the 2D/side angle view sections take at least half of the games overall level design (if not more), the older crash games had their share of 2D sections too yes but in IAT I noticed it more often, definitely due in part to the level length no doubt.
I think as a base game I honestly prefer crash 4 to the likes of crash 1 in particular Genuinely believe the only thing I'd consider bad in crash 4 in particular would be the painful grind for 100% completion and it's base game length They knocked it out the park with level design, how fun it is, the movement, the characters and the power ups but the frankly unnecessary post game bloat is just ridiculous so Warped is still my favourite. The amount of stuff you have to do post game isn't bad in itself since you're replaying already good levels with extra twists but there's way too many variations that doesn't warrant the effort. Hope if they make a new crash game they learn from that.
it might even be possible that nickelodeon/paramount doesn't even own the rights to tak anymore, they could have sold the rights or even wrote the IP off as a tax write-off

Great video man! I remember seeing Tak on old Nickelodeon DVDs, like a trailer for the first game on Rugrats Go Wild's DVD and the third game on the first Direct to Video Tales from the Crib movie. I remember in like 2017/18, I got interested in checking these games out, they're like the Ratchet & Clank of Nickelodeon to me where I got hooked on that series like the intergalactic duo in 2020. Except, where I fell off of Tak after a bit and occasionally reminiscing on the games (and especially after playing Guardians of Gross where it was meh to me) If Tak was to come back, I would definitely put him in the recent crossover games and give him a remake of the original games, not a remaster because those games need better polish. The TV show I barely remember watching as a 4 year old in 2007 and I didn't really like it. Hell, I didn't even like it when I attempted to watch it and barely got into an episode before I noped out of it. Tak was definitely ambitious and Nickelodeon had faith but by the TV show bombing hard, the faith quickly died outside of just trying to keep him around for a while longer. I remember he was much better in the Nicktoons games in terms of his TV show but even then, it wasn't enough to save him. Like I said, I do think Tak has a chance to come back and if THQ Nordic leaves SpongeBob alone for one second after Cosmic Shake and finally touches the 15 other Nick IPs they wanted to bring back, then maybe we could see Tak make a comeback over 13 years later.
Tak 1-3 definitely deserves a remake I agree with you! I wish THQNordic would give fans the remake they promised fans in 2018 instead of just focusing on SpongeBob it’s ridiculous! THQNordic #bringTakback

The story behind the making of the show is more interesting than the show itself. Besides it being Nick's first in-house CG series, it also went through a lot of showrunners. *"I remember Tak and the Power of Juju being this really big franchise that came like, out of nowhere back in the mid-2000s. Right out of nowhere there were games, toys, and of course, a cartoon. The franchise was almost inescapable for a short period of time. Even if you didn't watch the show or play the video games, you at least heard about it. And then one day the franchise completely vanished and nobody ever talked about it again."*

The grandma team in Tak 3 honestly awoke something in me as a kid... 😩
Ayo?
I really hope THQNordic fulfills the 2018 promise of a remade trilogy! Even Jason Marsden Tak’s original voice actor wants the trilogy to return! :)

Y’all are doing Gods work.

Unfortunately the show is what killed the franchise it was nothing like the original three video games, Tak had and has amazing potential but Nickelodeon didn’t let Avalanche Software make the true Tak 4 even though Tak was Avalanche’s creation
Tak 2 was one of my favourites as a kid. Recently just replayed it. Man it brought back a lot of fond memories.
Tak 1-3 is GOATED That’s why fans want a remake! THQNordic needs #bringTakback
Your intro is such a nostalgia trip. I remember playing all of those games when I was younger. Amazing video
Avalanche Softwares Tak Trilogy is to me the GOAT for all those games, Tak has amazing gameplay stories music characters writing and voice acting and personality! THQNordic needs to #bringTakback :)
Tak 3 was a childhood classic for me. I played countless hours of it with my brother. The co-op inclusion was a great idea.
That’s why fans are clamoring for a Tak trilogy remake! THQNordic mentioned one in 2018 and it’s finally time they fulfilled that promise! The Tak community uses the hashtag #bringTakback to spread the word around everywhere so THQNordic can see the demand for a remake of the Avalanche Software trilogy because fans want it! It’s time for THQNordic to #bringTakback
I used to play Tak 2 with my brother in the co-op mini game mode all the time. The story mode and initial cutscenes are super nostalgic for me
I’m hoping THQNordic remakes Tak 1-3 like they planned on! The Tak Trilogy is GOATED! THQNordic needs to #bringTakback
I remember me and my brother had a used copy of Tak 2 but inside the case was actually just the disc for the first game.
I remember liking it but it's also been forever since I ever played it. While the series def had its issues but they do still have pretty good production value and quality. Avalanche clearly had a lot of talent, they would end up making the Toy Story 3 game later which was legitimately good and really polished.
The Tak Trilogy is incredible they really are amazing and it makes sense why so many fans want Tak’s return! You should play the rest of the Avalanche Software trilogy absolutely incredible! :)
You don't get a MASSIVE AAA game development opportunity like Hogwarts Legacy without being legitimately talented.
Watching you play this was an experience
Never thought I'd hear the phrase "bad chicken AI". That cracked me up. Thank you.
Loved these games! Brings back a golden memory, thank you
Tak 1-3 is a masterpiece of a trilogy and THQNordic needs to fulfill their 2018 promise and #BringTakback
I've recently had a similar revelation while playing PS2 era ratchet and clank
While I enjoyed playing Tak and the Power of Juju when it first came out, my most fond memory of the game was when my dad said, in his best video game commercial voice, "TAK, AND THE POWER OF POOPOO". Other than that I remember very little about the game itself.
Okay seriously Tak getting the remake/remaster treatment would be a perfect idea
“Tak: The Juju collection”
• All 3 games included
• as many of the original voices as possible
• many bells and whistles, new or cut content
Just sayin it would be great
Fans have been trying really hard to get the attention of THQNordic so that exact thing can happen because THQNordic promised fans in 2018! The community has been using the hashtag #BringTakback to get the word around! Because the original Tak trilogy is an underrated masterpiece and plenty of fans want the great and mighty warrior to return! Even Tak’s original voice actor Jason Marsden wants to reprise his iconic role! :)
Did you know that Jason Marsden was going to voice Party Juju but was replaced by Rob Paulsen during development?
He is actually called the Dead Juju in the game trilogy and in the TV series
as the Party Juju.
1:04:55 to the end, has to be my favorite point. In my opinion, I believe that if you love something, set it free.
…
While I would definitely be happy to see Tak given the “ReHyrdated” treatment, I can agree that it may be difficult to recapture that same vision of the series, 20+ years ago.
…
I felt the same way playing Sly 4. It’s a good game but I personally didn’t feel like it recaptured enough of the “original essence” of the trilogy. Even some fans of Crash Bandicoot series were unsatisfied with the high difficulty of completing Crash 4.
…
As for Tak, while I still think it’s possible for a remake or reboot, it might be best to let the series remain as a good memory of our childhoods.
I think as a base game I honestly prefer crash 4 to the likes of crash 1 in particular
Genuinely believe the only thing I'd consider bad in crash 4 in particular would be the painful grind for 100% completion and it's base game length
They knocked it out the park with level design, how fun it is, the movement, the characters and the power ups but the frankly unnecessary post game bloat is just ridiculous so Warped is still my favourite.
The amount of stuff you have to do post game isn't bad in itself since you're replaying already good levels with extra twists but there's way too many variations that doesn't warrant the effort.
Hope if they make a new crash game they learn from that.
it might even be possible that nickelodeon/paramount doesn't even own the rights to tak anymore, they could have sold the rights or even wrote the IP off as a tax write-off
THQNordic owns Tak that’s why a remake can happen! Tak 1-3 deserves it! THQNordic needs to #bringTakback

Except, where I fell off of Tak after a bit and occasionally reminiscing on the games (and especially after playing Guardians of Gross where it was meh to me)
If Tak was to come back, I would definitely put him in the recent crossover games and give him a remake of the original games, not a remaster because those games need better polish.
