Tremendous video. As always, thanks for sharing. Tackling the West Ridge had to be quite the experience. That footage captured by the British Expedition in ‘80/‘81 of Egg Shell Traverse (I think that’s what they called it) and the Lho La is some of the most captivating early video ever filmed on Everest. However the thoughtful, high quality photography you have gone onto capture of this mountain will outlive all of us. What a gift.
Thanks, Matthew! Yeah, trying the West Ridge was definitely a fun trip, and wonderful to see parts of the mountain few visit (even though we didn't get particularly far). And, agree 100% about the imagery captured by the British expedition and the "traverse of the eggshells" - yikes! Joe Tasker's book "Everest the Cruel Way" is a great telling if you haven't read it; here's a sample online with some great photos: us.alpkit.com/blogs/deeds/everest-the-cruel-way-joe-tasker Thanks again, and be well!
100%. There are certainly hazards and risks on the North Col/North Ridge/Northeast Ridge, but the vast majority are subjective rather than objective. North side is way preferable to me from a climbing standpoint.
Thanks, Christopher. I should have noted that! At 1:38, that's actually me shooting video while Brent Bishop captured footage on his GoPro. So, not a dead person - just me shooting!
Sadly, none that I know of. The Chinese only allowed climbers into Tibet last week, so even if someone was planning to search this season, they'd have scant little time to do so!
Ha, that's actually me shooting video (the next clip) of the climb! Thinking of Monty Python - "I'm not dead yet..." (ua-cam.com/video/Jdf5EXo6I68/v-deo.html)
Oh my! You were soooo still for one second I believed it. I zoomed in to see both hands above your head with a camera. Then as I watched further I saw your pants and backpack matched “you” climbing. Thank you for clearing that up! I know there are bodies but that was a little too far down the mountain and too close for comfort. Lol
Thank You for bringing the mountain to us all! Journey on! Greetings from Oklahoma, USA!
Thank you! Hope all is well, and greetings back at you!
Charlie is gonna stir up the internet with this video. Very exciting and turbulent towards the end. Glad everyone is okay! Thanks for posting!
Indeed - thanks!

@@jake_nortonThank you, Jake!
That scared the crap out of me at the end. Hope everyone was ok.😮
Yeah, that was a bit sporty for sure! We were all fine, as were others, just bumped the heart rate up some!
That avalanche at the end, wild. I'd like going as fast (but smart ofc) through the Icefall as possible personally, don't want to get caught in there.
I'm with you! I took my time that one day, and won't do so again! Never a guarantee, but figure limiting exposure is the best bet!
@@jake_norton 100%!!
That walk across the laddar is a big fat NO for me!! Nice video again Jake!
Wise man! Thanks, David!
😊😊😊 wonderfully evocative
Thank you!
What adventures you have had.
I've been fortunate to have a few!
Do you agree that North Col is less risky compared to South Col, because of the ice fall?

Jake, at 1:39 , is that someone resting? .....or is it, something else? Interesting, never a dull moment, especially, in the Ice Fall!
wondering the same thing

@@jake_norton I thought that was a camera!! I wasn't sure if someone was resting.... Or sleep, or.......r.i.p.
Are there any active searches for Irvin? Would love to find someone either writing or vloging it

That’s terrifying. The Khumbu Icefalls seem like Russian Roulette…
Indeed, not a pleasant place at all!
1:38 is a strange place to find a body. Rip to whoever that soul was.

I owe you an apology.
very fast it was mind blowing
