I think it might be the best era in gaming, I know there's some bias because I was a teenager back then, but I honestly believe it. 1.) Xbox 360 changed online gaming forever, you could argue it paved the way for PC gaming to get stronger. 2.) PS3 had a rocky start, but eventually built an elite library 3.) Nintendo rebounded from failure and they're now worth more money than they were in the 90s.
A lot of those games used pre-baked lighting, which makes the framerates even faster than some of the newer games because it was the shift to 100% all dynamic, real world lighting that really started to stress the hardware on current gen consoles. I know a lot of people think the modern lighting is better, but I honestly liked the look of the old-school lighting slightly more. It was less "realistic", but it has a nice painterly feel to it.
Interestingly enough, I heard someone say somewhere games need to stay away from realism because the difference is what takes us out of our own world. I’ll explore that theory one day! Thanks for watching!
@@GameRangerReviews88 That's true! But there's another big problem. Soon as you push an element of graphics into the realm of hyper-realism, everything else(all other assets in the game) will be measured and scrutinized to that standard. For example, if a modeled face is more detailed.. with more polygons dedicated to face wrinkles, nose and mouth asymmetry, realistic eyelids and lashes, lips and teeth that look real, etc. and with higher res texture maps, then the deformation zones of that face need to be just as detailed, otherwise you get that porcelain statue effect you see in a lot of indie titles where the face details are real, but the movement isn't. Then the lighting, animation, environment model, dynamics.. ALL have to be raised to the same level of detail and many devs just don't have the budget for it. Another example is the more realistic water puddles in Infamous Second Son on the PS4 compared to the PS3 games. All of a sudden, players think it looks weird that you don't get a splash effect when the feet hit the puddle, but they never called this out on the less realistic puddles that existed in the PS3 Infamous games. It's that disconnect where a part of game has a higher fidelity of detail than others. LA Noire is a good example. Reason why it goes into the uncanny valley a bit is because the facial animations that are projected onto the model are more detailed than what the physical low-poly mesh can support.. and it looks weird with their boxy looking fingers interacting with their more realistic face. (I'm a character artist at a game studio, btw)
@@Mister_Phafanapolis Oh, totally. But a good part of this is the time wasted on trying to optimize instead of working on the gameplay itself. It ends up eating resources and interation on the game itself often gets put on the backburner so they can work on performance instead. I was just playing Sekiro again and that game's got very little dynamic lighting and almost everything is pre-baked and it honestly looks beautiful. It's got this softness and painted look that just really appeals to me. Also the reason why you can get over 100 fps on the game.
Dude, the PS3 generation is my favorite. I remember growing up with my dad's ps3, he had the best setup. A pristine PS3 Slim in the black coolor, 4 controllers, all his games were physical, organized like books in a little book drawer, AND he had a controller charging station. That...was art, looking back at it now. And with such fun titles like the Motorstorm series, LittleBigPlanet, the modern Killzone games, Ratchet and Clank future series, GT5 and 6...it has been ingrained into my brain ever since. Definitely my favorite console ever, it's not close, and I miss what this generation offered: a perfect balance between visual ambition and fidelity, and straight up fun gameplay. Not that other consoles didn't achieve this during thier time, they definitely did. But as it stands, considering the era of gaming from the PS1 to now, the PS3 is effectively the middle point. It's balanced. In my eyes, it's perfect
@@duartemorgado136 I'm afraid not, my friend. Just went through hundreds of family photos that my dad has taken over the years and nothing of it is there. I was very small at the time and didn't rlly have the foresight or the device to take a picture, so I unfortunately don't have one ;~; But I really wish I had one. Maybe he would've taken a picture of me playing if I lived with him at the time, but I was living with my mom instead. I can tell you for sure though that the PS3 felt a million times cooler than the Wii that was in my mom's house lol Wish I had a time machine to send a picture of it
Absolutely this! I've been going back to 360, OG Xbox, PS3, PS2, etc and the games are FUN. They may have a story, even a good one, but the gameplay is fun in ways modern games aren't. And local multiplayer is so awesome!
I love how you have the camera pointed straight at your TV (yes, I’m not joking). I wish more people would do this. It gives the overall feel of a more human POV rather than just using a capture card. It’s cool to get a glimpse into your aesthetic.
It's why I subscribed. I remember making my old gaming videos without a capture card by putting my phone on a chair facing the tv 😅. I remember it looking tacky, but this guy makes it classy!
Modern gaming 2024 is why I got heavily into pirating games. Back in the PS3 days I never even thought of pirating even though it was around, modern gaming is quickly becoming a damn scam and rip off.....
That's you, I've pirated almost all AAA xbox 360 game in that era, just because I could. Nowdays I buy a lot of games on Steam and I use Gamepass. Then again, I did pirate a whole bunch of Switch Games after Nintendo bringing to my attention that I could and that I should by killing an emulator named Yuzu.
The fact that PS3 and 360 games are cheap at the moment makes it an good time to "jump back in" but prices are going up so get in there quick and grab your favourite games now.
I recommend people to buy the license games first. I got war for cybertron for $40 but can guarantee it’ll go up higher like all the old ps2 games I got. Hopefully Activision and hasbro work a deal out and bring remasters/remakes to next gen.
The PS3's user interface is superior to that of current-gen consoles in my view. Also curious to note that we had animated icons on the PS3 and Wii menus, but not now... It's as if the UI has regressed since generation 7.
You bet, ps4 interface is much worse than ps3, and the ps5 interface is even way worse than ps4. I don't understand why they do this other than trying to throw as many advertisements and store content in your face as they possibly can without the playerbase revolting.
Great video! I still keep my PS3 hooked up on my basement tv. Gran Turismo 5 essentially lives in it. I finally finished Mass Effect 2 on it two years ago. It’s so much fun to go back to and the graphics hold up really well. I got a PS5 last Christmas and I love playing through Gran Turismo 7 (such a fantastic game) but when the nostalgia hits I go to GT5. Thanks again!
I will do a video on Gran Turismo and my thoughts on the series now. Mass Effect 2 is incredible. Instead of going through the Omega 4 I decided to do everything the game had to offer. Thanks for the compliment and watching!
I completely agree with you. I also packed up my PS5 and bought a PS3 . I find the games to be far more enjoyable. The studios actually cared about the games back then and not just Graphics and how much they'll make off the game because they're photorealistic. Like they video and the point you make is on point.
Brother I was playing Killzone 2 a few days ago after years! And I noticed such an incredible regard for detail! You can shoot almost anything on it, chairs, bottles, lightbulbs, man you can see the LOVE put into the game! How your enemies seem to make a dance of death while you are wasting them. Is freaking amazing!! Subcribed also bro.
The 7th generation of video game consoles were pretty much modern gaming done right. The PS3 was the most advanced video game console at the time AND the cheapest Blu-ray player until the early 2010s, the Xbox 360 was essentially a great update to an already modern console (the Xbox) and the Wii, despite being a non-HD console, had motion controls, Virtual Console, Miis and various useful online services, for free! And I'm not even talking about the DS with its innovative dual screen and the PSP which was both a powerful handheld at the time and a great media player. That era truly was the last great era of gaming, sadly pretty much everything went downhill afterwards, especially the current one.
I feel the same way about this particular console generation, I have my 360 and over a decade of games, dlc, save datas, etc on it and I know that if I find a game out in the wild that I wanna play I know that I can just pop the disc in and it'll just run and I feel like game companies are getting too greedy for their own good. If course they want to limit what you can "own" and maintain control over what you can and can't play despite what you have paid for.
PS3 online servers for some games have been revived by independent developers by using a DNS mod, like MotorStorm and Gran Turismo 5 and 6. The online multiplayer for these games are fun
Meanwhile, the official server of Earth Defence Force is still up. It is a game released more than 10 years ago. Kudos to Sandlot for supporting their game and respecting their customers.
I absolutely love how many people are going back to this gen cos rheyre jaded from the current one. Ps3 games felt innovative and full of different ideas. There needs to be more games with destruction like the red faction series! All your videos so far have been great mate!
Man, White Knight Chronicles is probably one of the worst games I have ever played on the PS3. Seeing you play that brought back bad memories lol. The PS3 is still my favorite console of all time.
I bought my 360 a couple of years ago for like 40 quid, and then about two dozen games for half that. Ditto for my PS3. Ironically, it was playing them and reliving my glory days that inspired me to buy the Series X and now I am just a sad, broken old man.
Want to intensify this feeling even more? Visit the OG Xbox, PS2, GameCube, and dare I say even the OG Wii… Complete games from the shelf and no DLC’s 🔥
I bought a used PS3 (ultra slim model) a few years ago for 50€. I always bring it with me when I go on vacation and tend to have a blast playing on it when I can’t go out for various reasons. I revisited some classics and played others for the first time, mostly the OG God of War games and MGS4. Great console.
As a game developer and general creative, PS3 was when gaming peaked as a ‘art’ or ‘story’. It unites cultures to buy old consoles. you can still buy a NES, I have old NES carts and a NES.
I just bought a PS3 after feeling burnout on modern gaming. All I ever play consistently now is FIFA and WWE. The choice is almost too much and it’s hard to stay invested in anything But just a few days on PS3 and yeah I bought far too many games so I’m struggling deciding what to play first, but I’m invested. I want to play them because single player games just feel unique. Wish more were like this
I really like collecting for the Xbox 360 for the same reasons you are talking about. Easy to get in to games, minimal time to update (mostly not required), and modern enough hardware/ graphics to use on new tvs. And also nostalgia!
This generation was peak gaming This was where my addiction with the hobby peaked even at the cost of my grades, social and family life Nowadays the novelty is lost, even if I have more time than ever
PS3 already saved modern gaming as a whole, youre forgetting PS3 is the father of soulslikes with Demon's Souls. and pretty much the only titles worth playing nowadays are fromsoftware titles.
I have had my PS3 and Xbox 360 (along with my PS2 and OG Xbox as well) hooked up consistently over the past few decades. They are great systems. They don't rely on constant online, or massive patches, or multiplayer only. Tons of couch playing, tons of good single player games, just overall great games that still look very good.
I just dug out my old one and hooked it up. ‘Vanquish’, ‘Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine’, ‘Binary Domain’, ‘Renegade Ops’. And so many others unavailable in PS5 store. You’re absolutely correct. I’m enjoying all of them so much that I don’t think about the graphics, (although they are still quite good).
Jesus man, you made me want to dig up my super slim again. I bought it too late and didn't give it enuogh love before getting a PS4. Thank god you can still find games for like €3/5, hope it stays that way for a few years.
@@GameRangerReviews88btw most games on the ps3 are complete. The blu ray disc were able to take more on disc then the Xbox 360 which need 2-3 & sometimes even 4 disc to complete the install. Some will say most games on both 360 and ps3 have complete games it’s only the latter games from 2014- 2018 that didn’t have full games on disc.
Yep, I bought Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection for the Xbox one as a physical disc, but had to download the entire game. The disc is basically just a fob to prove you paid for it, but there's no guarantee it doesn't go the way of Ubisoft's The Crew (which I bought for PS3 and can no longer play). I'm rebelling and going back to 2007 when everything was basically on the disc
I have spent the past 3 days and nights installing 500 gigs worth of games to my PS3. All of my games I had bought on the PlayStation store back then are now on my hard drive and ready to be played lol. It took forever in order to download and install and that was with wired ethernet 1 gig speed but you all have to remember that that is due to the PS3s lack of good chipsets enabling faster speeds. Even installation was a pain in the butt. One thing's for certain... The PS3 is an amazing piece of machine.
Your point at 9:00 is something I've been so disappointed in for last like 5 years It's like going to buy a car at full price and then the dealership telling u they'll ship u the steering wheel on a few months. No, I paid 100% of the price for the game, I want 100% of the complete and finished game NOW. Sad what ppl have let themselves accept from these developers.
Doing a similar thing right now, unfortunately my old PS3 isn’t working so I got another one. But right now I put my XBSX and my switch away and my Xbox 360 and Wii are in their place. Absolutely having a blast, just waiting for the PS3 since I have about 20 games to play.
Extra thing to note about the PS3: 1) all models play PS1 games through Software Emulation. On top of that, with early models, PS2 Backwards Compatibility is avaliable, though those are tad more pricey due to that fact and sellers generally know thats more valueable. 2) all models are compatible with an upgrade if youre willing to do it. PS3 uses the SATA 1 format for its HDDs, meaning you can put any SATA 3 SSD drive into the console. While it wont have full speeds, itll allow for expandable storage and some faster load times. 3)speaking of which, with custom firmware, CFW, you can rip games from the disk and install them to the drive, allowing for back ups of your disks. So, with the right model, you technically can have a ton of games to play, slightly modernize the load times, and larger storage. This will require a guide and a PC, but those hurdles are just speed bumps in comparison.
man going to make me buy a ps3 again lol what I did appreciate is not only how well that system was built first coming out, but how long the batteries in the controller lasted... I mean I hardly would charge that PS3 controller when I got the fat PS3.
Yeah, the controls for the PlayStation three and the PlayStation four for that matter seem to last a heck of a lot longer than those for the PlayStation five!
Man I loved my PS3! killer generation for games, the hardware itself was great (after the infamously horrible launch),and then introduced the PS3 slim, which I still name the best mid cycle console refresh ever. There was something also so clean and timeless about the UI and software which aged beautifully. Great video man, makes me want to find mine and plug it back in
For me PS3 actually signaled the end of the good old times of putting the disc in the console and playing the game. It was already bad in the beginning when games asked to be installed from disk and it took an hour to start playing, but it got even worse with time. The Last of Us was a giant download at the time and after that it still needed to download patches before you could start, and then wait through the installation process, it took literal hours. That was when I’ve realized that it became faster to download and start games from steam than to play on PlayStation. Last good consoles were Wii and Wii U, where games just worked after you put them in.
TL;DR My PS5 is useless, my PC is useful, PS3 and PS2 are goats!! I have my PS5 but I been playing my PS3, my PS2, and my Wii lately. There is something so charming about playing those consoles on a CRT. After getting a gaming PC that can rival my PS5 just made my PS5 pretty useless. That being said I will keep it. My younger brother made joking comments about wanting it and selling it but I think he just wants it. I may give it to him for Christmas if he wants it. Half the games I have on my PS5 I bought on my gaming PC and have been much more worth while. I do know that there are many games on PS3 that you can get on PC but I feel the PC just doesn't capture that charm. Also I love playing it on my CRT alongside my PS2. The 2000s was the golden era for video games in my opinion. I went from a PlayStation hating kid to a PlayStation loving adult.
Motorstorm alone is worth the console. There are three games of the series and it supports the sixaxis motion control. Also, you can pick a PS Move controller + Eye camera for cheap, with a gun/rifle plastic support, and play games like The House Of The Dead. To play lightgun games on modern console, you need a +200$ gun. Finally, all the PS3 models can be jailbreaked and play (for free) all previous gen console and arcade games, up to the PS2. For a young kid who have lot of free time, it's a terrific console.
@RetroRangerReviews88 it's a bit on the pricier end ($100) but I got lucky and found one on the FB market for 50. Definitely one to keep an eye out for.
@@GameRangerReviews88If you get the mCable or mClassic be sure to set the consoles* to 720p, to get the most out of the accessory! Just my 2 cents :) *The consoles being: 360, PS3, Switch, and Wii U; I believe these will benefit the most!
I stumbled across your channel and the title of this video is basically what I've been saying for the better part of 4 years now; although I tend to include everything from the 3rd generation through the 7th in that statement, but it's still the same basic idea. The 4th gen was probably my overall favorite but the 5th, 6th and 7th were the origins of many of my favorite series to this day....so the nostalgia isn't just from my teenage years. Realistically, these devs could still go back and make games for the older systems (and Steam), for much MUCH less money; just look at how people have shown what was capable on just the Genesis over the years, let alone the more rare SNES homebrew -- and some of these quality of life romhacks and translation patches that have been done by "fans" for all those old games left in Japan... well, the passion certainly isn't lacking. And thank the gods for archivists like Spike from CD Romance for putting all that together for people who don't know how to do any of that. Imagine of that was properly funded?! For that and so many other reasons, I think it's Indy Devs who are worth supporting because there are very few "AAA" titles that are worth it these days. This disease of "more" really needs to stop and this video (and I assume the one following covering XBOX 360) explains exactly why that is. Very well said and for someone who didn't start this all that long ago I think you're already off to a hell of a start! Cheers from Wisconsin, USA!
Thank you mate! I appreciate your support, I hope Wisconsin is being good to you! And yeah, my growth here is freaking me out a bit. I didn’t expect things to take off like this lol There are still some people in the industry keeping the old live and passion alive and when they produce a game, it’s usual on another level. There are so many games that I’m yet to experience and that excites me!
@@GameRangerReviews88 You are welcome sir! Wisconsin isn't too bad this year -- the last couple we've been buried in snow until right about now! I think what it comes down to is exactly what you said -- It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Suikoden 6...er....I mean Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes is a perfect example. I hope the Devs that are still with these big corporations realize they could leave at any time and do the same thing because it's clear as day Konami (and many others) took notice, as they should. All these remasters and remakes are getting out of hand if you ask me.... I'll happily emulate. The only one that I've seen that really got me excited was the Resident Evil 4 Remake -- it didn't even need it and I have to give them credit where it's due, they definitely surpassed most people's expectations -- and that is exactly how it should be if they feel they MUST remake something. I also think you made great points in the earlier vids (they're on the TV through my Roku as I type) about people coming together. I'm not insinuating anything here [for algorithm purposes] but anyone like myself who was paying attention in the U.S. saw what was, and perhaps still is going on all over the world in all the "crown" countries -- it doesn't matter what any of our differences are because even if it's just the love of old school gaming, that one thing means we have more in common with each other than we do with ANY of the powers that shouldn't be. I've tried to keep that in mind every time I interact with anyone online. One last thing -- It's awesome how you talk about your children. Parents who are involved with their children instead of just sticking a phone in their hand, or sticking them in front of some movie (that just indoctrinates them) to keep them "busy" have my utmost respect. Whether it's playing the games with them and teaching them or if it starts off them watching, and as they get older showing them some of these awesome documentaries and Retrospectives about a certain game series, or even just the short history of the gaming industry; these are moments they will remember forever. And.... it's probably a not a bad way to get them interested in what we grew up with without "forcing" it on them.
@@ScottBeck79 I set up the Xbox 360 in my son’s room first and he was playing skate 2. Then we both had a go and just ended up making our character bail in the funniest ways. he said nothing about the graphics. In fact he said nothing about the cost of it either. it was his perspective that inspired this video. Thank you so much, mate. I appreciate you watching and commenting like this!
Ahhh so many good games. The ps2/3 era was truly amazing. The only part I didn't like was the dlc practices especially on games like asuras wrath and sf x tekken. Otherwise the ps3 is truly a gem. I just installed a 1tb hdd and loaded up as many exclusives as I could onto it.
I play my PS3 every day. I bought it back in early 2012 after my fourth xbox RROD'd and never looked back. I have 74 PS3 games for it, and a bunch of ps2 and ps1 games on it. Im fine with the graphics, they still look great to me. I have put more hours on my PS3 then every other console I have ever owned combined, I have gotten my moneys worth out of it 100x over. As ridiculous as it may sound, I wish they still made new games for it.
I agree with much of what you’re saying, but I am on my third PS3 console; they just keep wearing down! One stuck in an update loop, another video output goes out after 15 minutes… aggravating AF.
I love that era, each console was very different than the other. Developers had access to different rendering techniques and were willing to try new things. Now a days, the series x and ps5 are the same thing. Same architecture, same zen 2, and although they use different apis, the end result is hard to discern between the two.
Exactly, that’s a point I made in one of my videos. If they both play the same, have the same games, at the same price point… then why have two consoles on the market? Great comment!
I’m almost 40, and been playing video games since I was 4. Never have I heard so many, including myself, so disillusioned by a current generation. What a letdown this one has been, but the lack of games this has given me time to go back and play the greats, at least.
3:38 just seeing the skybox and that little bit of rock and trees I knew exactly what game and where in the game that was, Greydall plains from white knight chronicles one, I spent so many hours in the game, 2500+ and 2000+ in the sequel still have my saves for both... Good times, Good times.
Honestly I do like the fact they can go back and fix issues whenever they ship with them but at the same time it doesn't seem to balance out with how often they can ship half finished games on the grounds there's usually game breaking bugs that don't get patched out in a lot of games. Prime example being Darksiders 2 there's a side quest that if you start it to soon the person who gives it to you later doesn't register and it will lock you out of 100%. Was a known issue very early on and it never got addressed.
Serious topics man! Modern gaming as we all know it belongs to the incinerator. The moment the first batches of 9th generation consoles started dropping in, a very big boycott was written all over my face. So your theme is totally relevant and a good choice in reviving PS3 pleasures
Another great thing about the PS3 is that it can play games that aren't available on PC anymore, due to new Windows OS. Some old games don't launch or won't work on modern Windows anymore, so if people can, they can play certain games on the PS3 without any issues. Heck, my laptop isn't built for gaming, so some games I can't even play due to low graphics card & what not. So the PS3 is another solution I have, where I can buy a game that doesn't struggle running on the system, games like Batman Arkham City, Sleeping Dogs, etc. My PS3 library is huge, especially on physical media, so it shows how much more fun and enjoyment I have playing on a older system, compared to new ones.
@@SilverTester isn’t available? I’m not sure about that, but games like Rollcage for PC need something running xp at the latest *i think.* I’m yet to really look into it though.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 were the last consoles that weren't all about microtransactions, paid DLCs, pay to win, uber flashy graphics, etc. They're advanced architecture-wise and yet simple enough for hassle-free gaming. Although there were some companies that started microtransactions during this console generation, this is still the transition and is considered the last bastion of classic gaming, at least to me. And yes, PS3 is now a classic. I still play the 90s consoles and PS3 more often than the latest stuff. Unfortunately, due to the business model of current games, it is highly unlikely that we'll go back to the business model of classic games (1st to 7th console generations).
They had to release as complete as possible because they just couldnt do it otherwise. Once internet became more widespread, then publishers realized they could get away with it.
I got a ps3 for like 80 bucks a couple years back and i dont regret it, i played all the ratchet and clank games on it and loved them, def try to download all the digital only games while you can, who knows when they'll close the store. Into the Nexus is severely underrated.
Sleeping dogs and Mafia 2 still looks good to this day. I look at graphics as a bonus, Ive started in the ps1 era so it doesnt matter what the game looks for as long as price is reasonable, gameplay and decent story.
There is the fact that some of the ps3 versions can also play some of the previous console games. Not always effectively but there is the possibility there. That alone make is it more multitasking than any of the modern ones.
Love your content. Unfortunately the world moving toward subscription based experience. Even BMW planned subscription for seat heating in their cars nowdays.
Been playing my PS3 past 2 days. Lost a ton of my backups after moving my PC to Linux, rushed to get rid of horrible Windows (my fault!) but still got tons to play! Modded PS3 with EvilNAT is the bomb.
the thing that destroyed gaming is that all games are on the wifi for the most today. if they youst launched working complete games on disc in my opinion it would been so much better.
I completely agree I bought a PS5 at Christmas last year with Final Fantasy 16 and after I finished that game it's been collecting dust and I've gone back to my PlayStation 2 on my CRT TV I think I'm definitely going to pick up a PS3 after watching this video :)
4:26I think your nostalgia is showing. I mean, pretty much every problem the gaming industry has today, that being messy game releases, DLCs, season passes, the push for hyper realistic graphics that end up ballooning budgets, yearly releases, it all started on the PS3 generation.

But back to games, its the last playstation with a ridge racer game at launch and it was impressive in terms of graphics and speed, running at 1080p and 60fps in the year 2006. It aged well like many other games. The console design of the first slim model, like in the video, still looks modern and simple.
As someone who was a 360 kid, I had a blast running through ps3 games a couple years ago. Lucky to have a couple original phat ps3’s so ps2 games are great on this as well. And don’t forget to play the Uncharted series!
I don't think the PS3 generation and onward will be as desirable as older generations. I think the PS3 generation is the first time when lots of games got native ports to the PC, and quality PC ports starting getting good during that generation as well, while generations prior to the PS3 mainly got the best games on console with the occasional PC port, and PC ports prior weren't nearly as good as they were during the mid to late generation of PS3 and 360. PC gaming is more popular than ever as well and gets pretty much everything almost, and factor emulation into that and PC is just king now. I don't even think emulation will be that important in the PS4 generations onward since nearly everything has a native PC version now.
You’re right, PC is definitely king, but certain games don’t emulate very well. Heavenly Sword which is awesome tanks hard in the opening act with major fps drops. Emulation isn’t quite there for me yet but is very close awesome comment and thanks for watching!
@@GameRangerReviews88 That's true, but I think in the future even potato PCs will be able to play the PC versions of PS3 games much better than the PS3 itself can. I think at that time( probably in almost 10 years) the PS3 emulator(s) will be able to handle a lot of games by then. Then again the PS3 will be nearly 30 years old by then. That's CRAZY to think about. LOL. But yeah, even emulation has its qwirks at times and it's definitely not there yet with PS3. I still have my PS3 for some of the exclusives.
i hope so tbh. because i wont even own one of the older consoles again because i cant pay that price. those flip and collect people are ruining everthing for me in recent years kind of. for most older consoles i HAVE to pirate and emulate not because i want to but because there is no way to actually buying a game. who the hell pays like 200-300 bucks for a single game thats like 30 years old or something, its insane...
PS3 is definitely the best system. I still have tons of games for this system. And I'm in the process of buying games to complete my PS3 collection. Great Video
Dude awesome video and silver PS3. Likewise the PS3 is my favorite console, I’m even buying PS3 and PS4 games in Amazon cheap. If I can’t find the game new I buy it used.
I still believe this was the peak gaming generation, for one main reason, companies were still taking risks and giving us so many games that wouldn’t even be on the drawing board in todays generation of gaming, all many companies are just trying to find new ways on how to rip people off for more money and the game being fun comes last
Idk, I love the PS3, but I think that the 360 and it were the culprits for the issues of modern gaming. Many problems with modern gaming started in this generation. On-disc Day 1 DLC, broken game launches, looooong game updates/installs, disappearing DLC/digital games, the lot. Of cource, modern gaming has only exaggerated those problems, but it started with these consoles.
Hmm interesting perspective. I like to challenge my opinions so I’ll consider this and see if this generation was actually the start of a downfall. Great comment and thanks for watching!
360/PS3 Era is the best Era to me. You still got high quality games but, They didn't Gouge you for microtransactions just yet. Online was Free (On PS3) and games were very good. I think ppl were happy spending $40 to $50 bucks on a good 12 to 16 hour Single Player Experience and having multiple fighting, racing, shooting and Sports games to play online with or against friends or random ppl. I love my PS3 and still have it to this day.
I have 2 PS3's The original launch model that is fully backwards compatible with PS2 disc games and a PS3 slim. I would never ever bother with today's modern gaming especially the PS5. Nothing but overpriced broken games, with DLC, microtransactions and to top it all off some woke ideologies sprinkled on character designs and stories. No thanks!
The 360/PS3 generation is my favourite. So many great games from both consoles!
I need to set my Xbox 360 up!

Wait… You don't even have it set up? I have five set up in my house 😂
@@ktulu084 I’m getting there!
I gave up my 360 but have a series s for all my digital games.
I think it might be the best era in gaming, I know there's some bias because I was a teenager back then, but I honestly believe it.
1.) Xbox 360 changed online gaming forever, you could argue it paved the way for PC gaming to get stronger.
2.) PS3 had a rocky start, but eventually built an elite library
3.) Nintendo rebounded from failure and they're now worth more money than they were in the 90s.
@@rodneyabrett awesome comment, and I agree. I’ve heard a lot of criticism over inconsistent elements of graphics in games recently.
Pretty visuals are cool and all but I think developers lost the forest for the trees and put too much effort on graphics and not enough into gameplay.
Awesome comment and great memories! And thank you so much for watching!
Do you have a picture of the setup? Thats is wonderful
@@duartemorgado136 I'm afraid not, my friend. Just went through hundreds of family photos that my dad has taken over the years and nothing of it is there. I was very small at the time and didn't rlly have the foresight or the device to take a picture, so I unfortunately don't have one ;~;
But I really wish I had one. Maybe he would've taken a picture of me playing if I lived with him at the time, but I was living with my mom instead. I can tell you for sure though that the PS3 felt a million times cooler than the Wii that was in my mom's house lol
Wish I had a time machine to send a picture of it

Modern gaming 2024 is why I got heavily into pirating games. Back in the PS3 days I never even thought of pirating even though it was around, modern gaming is quickly becoming a damn scam and rip off.....
I sure hope things get better. Thanks for watching!
Same here
Same here, I only buy games from companies that I know won't let me down, like Rockstar and Fromsoftware
Same here!
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
I recommend people to buy the license games first. I got war for cybertron for $40 but can guarantee it’ll go up higher like all the old ps2 games I got. Hopefully Activision and hasbro work a deal out and bring remasters/remakes to next gen.
Only the disc are cheap but I notice some disc games have went up in price. But the PS3 store is pure trash now no deals and the prices are high

The PS3's user interface is superior to that of current-gen consoles in my view. Also curious to note that we had animated icons on the PS3 and Wii menus, but not now...
It's as if the UI has regressed since generation 7.
I totally agree - I love the ps3 UI. Thanks for watching!
You bet, ps4 interface is much worse than ps3, and the ps5 interface is even way worse than ps4.
I don't understand why they do this other than trying to throw as many advertisements and store content in your face as they possibly can without the playerbase revolting.
Eh, I prefer the ps5 ui for its speed and per game background & music

I have 2 jailbroken PS3 consoles which I use often; Thinking of buying a 3rd just for online gaming whenever I move back to the states.
I completely agree with you. I also packed up my PS5 and bought a PS3 . I find the games to be far more enjoyable. The studios actually cared about the games back then and not just Graphics and how much they'll make off the game because they're photorealistic. Like they video and the point you make is on point.
Thank you so much mate! There’s so much fun to be had on ps3 that I can’t seem to replicate on ps5.
i mean if its too expensive to make games with current tech, why not, it feels like the industri evolved too fast for its own good
Definitely. That’s exactly why games are released in broken states - the sense of urgency and to be “first in” with their ideas. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much mate! I’ll keep cranking the content out!
Mate I hear so many saying exactly this! The current generation of consoles are disappointing so many people. Thanks for watching!
My wife and I have an NES, Wii, Switch and I just got a PS3 slim for the games and blu ray. So stoked.
@therealdomingo nice!
So many great points here mate. We definitely agree!

Graphics are a plus, what is important is that the game is enjoyable/fun ….. that is why PS3/360 were such good consoles
I absolutely love how many people are going back to this gen cos rheyre jaded from the current one. Ps3 games felt innovative and full of different ideas. There needs to be more games with destruction like the red faction series! All your videos so far have been great mate!

I bought my 360 a couple of years ago for like 40 quid, and then about two dozen games for half that. Ditto for my PS3. Ironically, it was playing them and reliving my glory days that inspired me to buy the Series X and now I am just a sad, broken old man.

I just bought a PS3 after feeling burnout on modern gaming. All I ever play consistently now is FIFA and WWE. The choice is almost too much and it’s hard to stay invested in anything
But just a few days on PS3 and yeah I bought far too many games so I’m struggling deciding what to play first, but I’m invested.

That’s it, we are paying for access to a digital property we don’t own!
Modern Gaming is good. Youy have to look in the right place. Indie scene is full of amazing titles.
Nice! Yes I should get all my digital content now before Sony decide to close the ps3 store down too 🥹
Your point at 9:00 is something I've been so disappointed in for last like 5 years
It's like going to buy a car at full price and then the dealership telling u they'll ship u the steering wheel on a few months.
Extra thing to note about the PS3:
1) all models play PS1 games through Software Emulation.
I’m going to mod my PS3 eventually, and I’ll do a video on it 🙂
man going to make me buy a ps3 again lol what I did appreciate is not only how well that system was built first coming out, but how long the batteries in the controller lasted... I mean I hardly would charge that PS3 controller when I got the fat PS3.
Yeah, the controls for the PlayStation three and the PlayStation four for that matter seem to last a heck of a lot longer than those for the PlayStation five!

After PS2 and XBOX era, the PS3 and 360/Wii era was the last best gaming era.
I totally agree!
Just bought my first PS3 today, waiting for it to ship out. Looking forward to it!
I hope you live it mate!

I didn’t expect things to take off like this lol
There are still some people in the industry keeping the old live and passion alive and when they produce a game, it’s usual on another level.
Nice! Yes I noticed some games started leaning into those annoying practices as the console progressed in age 😐
LittleBigPlanet is my favorite series on PS3
I play my PS3 every day. I bought it back in early 2012 after my fourth xbox RROD'd and never looked back. I have 74 PS3 games for it, and a bunch of ps2 and ps1 games on it. Im fine with the graphics, they still look great to me. I have put more hours on my PS3 then every other console I have ever owned combined, I have gotten my moneys worth out of it 100x over. As ridiculous as it may sound, I wish they still made new games for it.
I have noticed that there are companies making new games for very old consoles so it’s not outside the realm of possibility!
I agree with much of what you’re saying, but I am on my third PS3 console; they just keep wearing down! One stuck in an update loop, another video output goes out after 15 minutes… aggravating AF.
Oh no mate, that’s sad to hear. The update loop can be fixed by replacing the HDD 🙂
@@GameRangerReviews88 Thanks, I’ll remember that!
That’s one silver lining!
thanks for sharing your journey, it’s incredibly inspiring! ️
3:38 just seeing the skybox and that little bit of rock and trees I knew exactly what game and where in the game that was, Greydall plains from white knight chronicles one, I spent so many hours in the game, 2500+ and 2000+ in the sequel still have my saves for both... Good times, Good times.
It sounds like I’m in for a treat! Thanks for watching!
@@GameRangerReviews88 90% of that was spent in the online portion of the game, sadly Geonet is no more.
I had a ps3 for almost 9yrs now still works like a dream
Nice!
That is mega frustrating. You are right, it’s the best use of internet connectivity. Thanks for watching!
That’s awesome! I’ve been finding ways to play older PC games and having blast with those and the ps3. Thanks for watching!
Name one game on pc that isn't available due to "new OS"...
@@SilverTester isn’t available? I’m not sure about that, but games like Rollcage for PC need something running xp at the latest *i think.* I’m yet to really look into it though.
@@SilverTester Batman Akrham Asylum, Spec Ops The Line, Transformers War for Cybertron, Mafia 2 (the OG game) and many others. And Steam has been deleting/removing the original games in favour of remasters/remakes, because of the whole newer=better mentality.
@@Asaylum117 games being removed from digital stores have nothing to do with the initial issue. They are not available. That's not a compatibility issue. I'll check the ones you named and reply back later.
I fear you are 100% right. They are making millions off these current practices and they’re not likely to change. Thanks for watching!
Crt tv and ps2 is heaven mate unfortunately i cant find any
Great content keep up!!
Same here! I only found one CRT nearby and it was $250!
I have a 1080 flat screen lcd and it has s video that can improve my sega Saturn visuals. I'm sure some crts can display edtv or s video mode to.
if you have a PS3 just mod it and youll get PS2 support
They had to release as complete as possible because they just couldnt do it otherwise.
Once internet became more widespread, then publishers realized they could get away with it.
Exactly, and now here we are 😐
I got a ps3 for like 80 bucks a couple years back and i dont regret it, i played all the ratchet and clank games on it and loved them, def try to download all the digital only games while you can, who knows when they'll close the store. Into the Nexus is severely underrated.
Good point, I’ll have to get all my digital stuff!
Awesome video dude, Your points are on point, and U have earned yourself a new Sub...
Release Regularly I can't wait for your Next Long Vid.
Hey mate, thank you so much! I’m aiming for this weekend mate, I hope to see you there!
Ohh i like that Silver finish on that PS3 Slim you got there, i need one! 😮
It looks better here than it actually is lol but I will restore it at some stage. Maybe even customise it!
Sleeping dogs and Mafia 2 still looks good to this day. I look at graphics as a bonus, Ive started in the ps1 era so it doesnt matter what the game looks for as long as price is reasonable, gameplay and decent story.
cool vid, keep makin em. you've got the ingredients for success
Thank you so much! I’ll keep making every video better!
There is the fact that some of the ps3 versions can also play some of the previous console games. Not always effectively but there is the possibility there. That alone make is it more multitasking than any of the modern ones.
Yes, I wish the PS5 could run ps3 games with enhancements!
Love your content.
Unfortunately the world moving toward subscription based experience.
Even BMW planned subscription for seat heating in their cars nowdays.
That’s ridiculous. There are even subscription car care plans 😐
My PS3 never went into the box again, its still hooked up to my TV.
Good to hear!
MF got me looking up prices on used PS3's in my area.
😂
Been playing my PS3 past 2 days. Lost a ton of my backups after moving my PC to Linux, rushed to get rid of horrible Windows (my fault!) but still got tons to play! Modded PS3 with EvilNAT is the bomb.
Nice! Sorry to hear you lost your backups mate!
the thing that destroyed gaming is that all games are on the wifi for the most today. if they youst launched working complete games on disc in my opinion it would been so much better.
Exactly. Otherwise why sell a disc? Might as well just sell a download code
I completely agree I bought a PS5 at Christmas last year with Final Fantasy 16 and after I finished that game it's been collecting dust and I've gone back to my PlayStation 2 on my CRT TV I think I'm definitely going to pick up a PS3 after watching this video :)
Nice! Let me know if you do!
4:26I think your nostalgia is showing. I mean, pretty much every problem the gaming industry has today, that being messy game releases, DLCs, season passes, the push for hyper realistic graphics that end up ballooning budgets, yearly releases, it all started on the PS3 generation.
Exactly, but ps3 gen is the last of the old ways too. It’s a real shame
Bought a broken slim, 2501A model 10 days ago, hacked with a CFW, 500GB/8GB SSHD and overclocked to 750/1000 - I don't use my PS4 Pro or One X since then
I missed the greatness of that era
Awesome! Can you enhance the graphics with the overclock?
@@GameRangerReviews88 what do you mean? It makes games way smoother.
@@Agent-mb1xx I mean can you force 1080p on all games?
@@GameRangerReviews88 no, however some games can be 1080p when you uncheck the 720p and 1080i options. Full Auto 2 runs fine at 1080p, Splinter Cell 3 runs better at 1080p too. GT6 runs 60FPS solid at 1080p

Great video. I've just recently picked up a PS3 Slim (2XXX series) with a dozen good title games, including ALL the Gran Turismo titles brought out on the Playstation 3 and a limited edition pure white official Sony PS3 controller on a straight swap for a fist gen 500gb Xbox One console with power supply and 1x controller with no games ( i just couldn't get into using the Xbox One and it was stored away collecting dust anyway, so no great shame there. I disasembled the PS3 Slim to give it a good deep cleaning out and replaced the factory applied thermal paste on the heat spreaders and replaced the motherboards CMOS battery as the console wasn't storing the date and time and have replaced the original 320gb HDD with a 1tb HDD, all i've left to do is J/Break it so i can play the PS1 and PS2 Gran Turismo games. I might just spray paint the black PS3 casing to a gorgeous "Burnt" orange colour in the summer months.
I have seriously considered customising consoles to that level myself! I build gaming computers as a bit of a hobby and have wondered whether I could create something awesome with a console! Thanks for watching!

What i realy like about the ps3 is that it is not only a great game system, its a great media player as well. I ripped so many audio CDs with that console. But back to games, its the last playstation with a ridge racer game at launch and it was impressive in terms of graphics and speed, running at 1080p and 60fps in the year 2006. It aged well like many other games. The console design of the first slim model, like in the video, still looks modern and simple.
Ridge Racer 7 is one of my all time favourites! It’s still beautiful with a distinct style right now. Thanks for watching!
As someone who was a 360 kid, I had a blast running through ps3 games a couple years ago. Lucky to have a couple original phat ps3’s so ps2 games are great on this as well.
And don’t forget to play the Uncharted series!
I love uncharted! 2 is perfection but I must say 3 and 4 were probably my favourites!
The incomplete game nonsense is exactly the reason why I don't buy a game until 1 year after release
Diablo 3 was very fun on the 360.
i hope so tbh. because i wont even own one of the older consoles again because i cant pay that price. those flip and collect people are ruining everthing for me in recent years kind of. for most older consoles i HAVE to pirate and emulate not because i want to but because there is no way to actually buying a game. who the hell pays like 200-300 bucks for a single game thats like 30 years old or something, its insane...
@@MaybeTiberius that’s the thing that scares me about buying games for the GameCube!

Dude awesome video and silver PS3. Likewise the PS3 is my favorite console, I’m even buying PS3 and PS4 games in Amazon cheap. If I can’t find the game new I buy it used.
I very rarely buy a game new from the store. Sure I miss out on some dlc sometimes but that doesn’t bother me! Thanks for watching!
I still believe this was the peak gaming generation, for one main reason, companies were still taking risks and giving us so many games that wouldn’t even be on the drawing board in todays generation of gaming, all many companies are just trying to find new ways on how to rip people off for more money and the game being fun comes last
Money is unfortunately nearly always put ahead of art 😐 great comment mate and thanks for watching!
I regret selling my PS3 and collection...
This occurred primarily in the last days of the 7th gen. 2012 namely. The 8th gen is when it exploded.
I’m getting excited about it just reading this comment lol
I have 2 PS3's The original launch model that is fully backwards compatible with PS2 disc games and a PS3 slim. I would never ever bother with today's modern gaming especially the PS5. Nothing but overpriced broken games, with DLC, microtransactions and to top it all off some woke ideologies sprinkled on character designs and stories. No thanks!
The mindset was very different back then!
