One thing I noticed is that in a lot of these scenes, Superman does something grand or spectacular to demonstrate his powers. (Bend a steel car bumper,Catch a safe, catch a helicopter, catch a falling plane, walk through fire) but all Cavill!Superman has to do is snap off his handcuffs and everyone gets the hint and backs up.
I also love that Lois is always the one to give him the name, Superman.

Bryan Singer and every Superman movie director since has gotten it wrong. Superman is not dark or angsty, mopey or angry, and he wouldn’t snap a criminal’s neck. He is about hope and optimism, truth and justice. Towards the end of Justice League, he started acting more like what he’s supposed to be.

Every time I see Chris Reeve save Lois for the first time -- so strong, so confident, so noble (and there are other scenes of his that have the same effect), I rewrite history in my mind. Chris and Dana are both still alive and happy together in 2021, Chris is 69 years old (very distinguished looking, still well built, discreetly gray), they watched their son William grow up, and they are enjoying their sunset years taking their grandchildren sailing and snorkeling. If only.

Tragically, Dana died of lung cancer only a few years after Chris, still in her 40s, even though she had never smoked nor lived with a smoker. Their son William is now in his late 20s, and by all accounts is a fine man.

Don't be sad for Chris and Dana. It's not what happens in life, but how we choose to deal with things that matters. Chris turned his accident into a positive by creating a foundation for stem cell research. He was as much a hero in life as on the big screen. Dana was a hero for standing by him til the end. Sometimes quality of character can trump quantity of life measured in years.

I always thought Dean Cain did a good job. Most forget it was a weekly series, so it didn't have feature movie big studio budget or time. Everything happened in a 45 minute window so it could air each week. And some of the hokeyness with simply '80s hokeyness that was in everything. Airwolf has the silly supersonic speed film motion. The earlier A-Team had the "shoot 10,000 rounds and no one gets hit" stories. And somewhere in this time, the comics changed the storyline again.

Many of these actors showed up on the Arrowverse, sometimes as multiple characters. For example, Durance reprises her role as Lois in Crisis but also played Supergirl’s biological mom (and Clark’s aunt) in the same crossover. And Tom Welling is not just Clark on one of the Earths but also a certain immortal brother killer on Earth-666. And Routh reprises his role as Superman but also plays the Atom. Their meeting is interesting (Lex: “Congratulations, you look like a filthy Kryptonian.”). Meanwhile, Supergirl’s adopted parents are the movie Supergirl and the “Lois & Clark” Superman, while her boyfriend’s mom is the “Lois & Clark” Lois

His Clark Kent was the worse. He played Clark like an idiot. Clark was a "mild-mannered reporter" not a bumbling, clumsy bumpkin. Remember, he was a genetically advanced being from another world. He wasn't really just a Kansas farm boy who had never been off the farm. At this time, the Superboy storyline still existed in the comics, so there had been the relationship with Lana, friendship with Pete, struggles of hiding who he was, and working the farm. He wasn't a dummy or social misfit. I think George Reeves set the standard for Clark, acting normal and a bit timid at times when needed, by always letting the audience know with a wink it was an act. He also was a take charge guy, telling Lois to do things frequently and clearly on equal footing with Inspector Henderson. With Christopher Reeve, it seem Clark really was a bumbling social misfit. Routh played Clark that way, but not nearly as bad. Cain played Clark well aware of everything who brought the act up when he needed around those that suspected him. I think he matched Reeves more. Cavill was a very different Superman and story. Hoechlin plays a much more mature version, as he is married and has kids. His Clark lead-in story also has Clark and Superman more mature and less excitable. Surprising since he is 35 and playing what should be an early 40s to mid 40s Clark Kent, which was the age of George Reeves when he was playing what should have been a 30 year old Clark. Chris Reeves can be forgiven some as he was only 26. Cain was 27 and had 11 credits under his belt.

4:15 THE SCENE WITH THE HELICOPTER was from a famous Superman Comic I even had myself in the German edition. They pepped it up with the Telephon booth since in the days of filming there were no real booth anymore around, hilariious ! You have to love the clip for this even if your were not in the Superman-mood like me.
9:28 Tracy Scoggins, she mostly had been casted as the somewhat dumb but streetwise Sex Bomb. Just in BABYLON 5 she got a better role as the last Commander on board. Loved her performance, showed she was able to much more.

That plane rescue from Returns is still the greatest single sequence in the modern Superman films. That is exactly what people want to see - Superman saving people. Not brooding and flying off. Then getting into a brawl then brooding then flying off. Then brooding alone. Then brooding with Lois then flying off. Then hovering over people who need saving while brooding. Cavill is great but I absolutely hate Snyder's interpretation of Superman.

That's why Tyler Hoechlin is so great. In costume he's got the same nobility, presence, optimism, even innocence, in a way, that Reeve and Routh had.
Close, though, as a father, he's a good mix, but is heir to the same frustrations, confusions, uncertainties, and so on every man and father must deal with.

@@MrBrachiatingApe Hoechlin is alright, but throughout Superman & Lois his suit muscle padding seems disproportionate, and he often seems to have a bewildered look on his face. His Clark and Superman don't really seem like different persons either...

Man superman returns could've been so amazing as a soft modern reboot/ follow up to the superman series, if only the plot and character of superman is a bit better written. Brandon Routh could've been the modern superman instead of Henry Cavill (even though I fucking love man of steel), it's a shame we didn't see more superman stuff from him

It's hard to take one winner as all of them come from a different era so what matters primarily is the context behind the meet. Although what I love about the 2021 show is that in the flashbacks they really pay homage to that old school superman era without making it feel out of place and that is indeed a big win.

The Christopher Reeve scene is pure Richard Donner. When he was first hired by the Salkinds to direct, Donner said the screenplay was atrocious. It was just parody on top of parody on top of parody (essentially what Superman 3 & 4 would be). He famously responded with, "This is not the Superman I grew up with.."
He knew the material deserved to be treated with great respect, and that introduction scene is the result. An incredibly slow build leading to an amazing reveal, all accompanied by John Williams' legendary score! I never get tired watching it..

I hate Amy Adams version of Lois. She is the worst. “Well, here it’s just an ‘S’.“ So disrespectful, especially after he specifically states it stands for hope. Then she just dismisses it, and then dumps on it. Brandon Routhe was the next best Superman to Reeves.
