What about Puneet Issar?
Is he the Indian Superman?
You deserve a thumb up just for the Ulysses 31 avatar.
@@Geekwatch00 yeah, I watched some of it with my son on Prime. It's not very good.
@@BETMARKonTube my favorite cartoon of all time.
@@MrScottev We'll be including him in a future video. It's still interesting to see how SUPERMAN is adapted in different cultures 😊
I grew up watching the Christopher Reeve Superman films and he'll always be Superman to me
I guess for a lot of people he is.
I grew up with him as well but still Cavill takes the lead for me.
@@C0lbyte Reeve brought the Superman character to the mainstream with his performances. Adults never accepted Superman prior to then as anything more than a silly children's superhero character. Reeve made Superman cool. Cavill also brought Superman back many years later and made him interesting again.
I'm a Cavill fan but I accept Reeves was born to be Superman ❤️
I think Ben Affleck deserves an honorable mention for playing George Reeves in the movie Hollywoodland. Taken from the book Hollywood Kryptonite.
We'll add him on future updates.
Mention him yes, but technically he was play George Reeves and not actually playing Superman. So I'm not sure it should count.
@@starbrand3726 True, but there's a scene or two where he's portraying George Reeves portraying Superman, to my mind that would count for a list like this :)
@@glennturner3224 Ha, ha. This is the Robert Downey Jr argument all over again. There were people accusing RDJ of being in Blackface during the movie Tropic Thunder. They were trying to cancel him because of it. But, RDJ was only playing a character who was doing Blackface in the movie. So, therefore RDJ was NOT doing Blackface. Ben Affleck was playing a character who was playing Superman, but he was not hired to portray Superman. Fun Extra: What about Bill Murray? He played Superman in a Saturday Night Live skit in the 70's, should that count?
Absolutely counts as a Superman performance.
40 years later, Christopher Reeve's Superman still stands out
Making him one of the more popular SUPERMAN.

He is the new gold standard for that role
@@rmoldafsky for a certain generation HE IS SUPERMAN
He was the 1st Superman I saw in this pic🙂
It is truly too bad all his movies were terrible in their own way. He was the best for the part despite script failures.
My first Superman was Christopher Reeve, and for me Christopher Reeve is Superman.
What do you like about his performance
Picturing Superman hosting Love Connection is hilarious to me. "We'll be back to see how that date with Green Arrow and Black Canary went in 2 and 2."
😄
😅😂🤣
Christopher Reeve hands down. And the best Superman sequence ever is his late night flight with Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. This rendition of Superman is a love story cleverly disguised as a superhero movie. It saddens me when I think about the fact that they are both gone now.
They will live on, in the Superman movies they made.
@@Geekwatch00 That's why I have the Christopher Reeve Superman movies on DVD and watch the first two as if they were one. I like action, but I am also a hopeless romantic. In the sequel the relationship between Superman and Lois Lane is fulfilled to the point that overshadows the activities of the evil trio and Lex Luthor. But one knows that, as great as the love is, it can't continue. Fate overpowers it. And Superman has to end it the only way it could ever end. In a sort of hypnosis he makes Lois forget. I suppose that's why my favorite plays are by Shakespeare and my favorite operas are Wagnerian. And my favorite fantasy is "The Lord of the Rings", especially the relationship between Aragorn and Arwin. After all they go through they both know they are still fated to separate Aragorn will grow old and die (even though it takes 200 years), but Arwin will go on unchanged for no one knows how long.
@@russellcarson4207 This is amazing. They should cover this themes on the planned Superman Legacy movie.
It's even sadder that Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's widow, died of lung cancer despite never having smoked.
George Reeves has been my Superman ever since I was a small boy watching him on an after school TV show which aired on a local channel.
I've actually enjoyed watching Reeves' Superman... I was not born yet when it was on air, so I grew up with Chris Reeve version.
No one will ever be as good as Christopher Reeve's was in the first 2 Superman Movies that he made. Let's forget about 3 and 4 though.
I can't forget, but I still try to enjoy some parts of it.
Even though 3 and 4 were bad, you can't say that Reeve was bad in them.
Cavill out did him
Richard Pryor and Cannon Films ruined Superman. Interesting! Superman 3, Batman 3 and Spiderman 3 have comedians as villians. Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey and Toffer Grace
@@10ktyty No! Christopher Reeve destroyed and obliterated Cavill. In terms of acting skills Christopher Reeve is the Most Superior actor between the two of them.
Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh are The greatest Superman ever..the most iconic ones.
Not every handsome man can potray himself as Superman.
Brandon Routh's Superman is a continuation of Reeve's. I guess you could lump there together.
Christopher Reeves is the best Superman and he played Clark Kent the best i've seen in all media he seemed as though he was 2 different people no one ever captured Kent n Superman like Christopher Reeves R.I.P. My friend🙏🏿💯👊🏿🥂

I'll say Dean Cain Louis and Clark and the 1989 Superboy version
Lol I didn't know The Love Connection Guy/Wheel Of Fortune host "Chuck Woolery" had played Superman lol 😆 😂
Honestly, I think one of the best Superman moments comes from the latest TV show with Hoechling when he's teaching his super-powered son to fly in the Arctic. He's teaching different patterns, and he says something like, "This next one I call the Kessel Run," and his son asks him what that means, and we see that even Superman can feel old when he hangs his head at that remark. Very humanizing.
Yup the new Superman tv show is amazing.
Oh my god! That was such a funny and unexpected scene, brilliant!
It goes beyond the Star Wars reference. The joke was multilayered, as it was undoubtedly also meant as an obvious homage to Karl Kesel. Very well thought, I must add.

Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill are the closest Supermans ever..
😊
That first clip of the 40's Sups standing on the the moving platform was kind of breath taking and actually a little creepy. The man seemed like he actually believed he was Superman and it was surreal.
I think he has to sell it to the crowd that he was actually Superman. Much like Kirk Alyn the actor for the first superman movie serial, he was uncredited because they wanted the public to believe that they actually got Superman playing the role. :)
I never knew so many actors portrayed the role of Superman.
And I've missed a few more.
That's because most people only care for the movie side, so Christopher reeves, Brandon routhe and Henry cavill

cool.
Chris Reeve = best Superman
Tom Welling = best Clark Kent
Brandon Ruoth = was outstanding as Kingdom Come Superman
good list
I would argue that Chris Reeve is also the best Clark Kent as he is really the only actor that pulled off playing Superman and Clark Kent as 2 distinct people. Everyone else really didn't try.
@@comicbookninja5268 Dean Cain is my favourite. Henry Caville comes a close second, I just wish those movies and his character would’ve been better.
Oh yeah, Christopher Reeve is the gold standard, even as his movies got worse, he was still always fantastic in them. Tom Welling was fantastic as a Clark we followed over 10 years and watched him evolve from high school student to Daily Planet reporter (and watching him meet with a character played by Christopher Reeve like it was passing the torch, was beautiful). Brandon Routh was a good 'Reeve'-like in Returns but yeah, even better as a Kingdom Come style Supes in Crisis where he got add a bit more of his own style to it. I want to add Tyler Hoechlin who has been doing a fantastic job in the CW shows especially since his own show 'Superman & Lois' where he got a bit of a soft reboot and been giving us a Supes married to Lois and raising his kids and it's been great. :)
@@comicbookninja5268 Brandon Routh...
Very entertaining, thank you. Three suggestions for later updates:
- the missing part of the locution about Tyler Hoechling.
- Ryan Handley was the actor portraying Superman's body at the end of "Shazam!"
- Brad Abramenko was the Superman in "Peacemaker"

The original superman needs to be mentioned. Clayton Collyer played Superman from February 1940 until the end of the 40s on radio. Kryptonite, Jimmy Olsen and Inspector Henderson were invented on his watch and he was the Superman during WW2 for American kids.

Yes but he refused to wear the suit, not sure why they casted an actor to play a role that he was embarrassed by
@@1craley878 I thought that the reason Superboy/man was not in Smallville was because the writers wanted to show the developmental side of the 'human' Clark Kent. I did not realise that Tom Welling was embarrassed wearing the Superman/boy costume. Disappointed to learn that as I enjoyed the Smallville concept.
The best Superman for me was Christopher Reeve.
Congratulations for the good Video!
Awesome thanks.
Batman Begins (2005) and Superman Returns (2006) should’ve led to Batman v Superman. Christian Bale and Brandon Routh were the perfect age to build the DCEU for the next 2 decades. 💯
Sadly that didn't pan out.
But Returns was such a sucky movie. Too bad. He really was a good Superman.
Bale wasn't interested in fantasy or any crossovers...

Bill Murray and Ben Affleck definitely count if they’re going to use actors from commercials and parade footage, not to mention actors from unaired pilots or Nicolas Cage and DJ Catrona from movies that never got made.
I'm agreeing with you on this one. Expect them on the next update.
Ron Ely should be mentioned as well. He appeared as an aged version of Superman in the 1980s Superboy TV Series ("The Road to Hell: Part Two")
If I mention Ron Ely, I have to mention also the young clark kents from the tv shows and movies.
@@Geekwatch00 That's a good point. But Ron Ely definitely portrays a stand-alone (and already adult) superman. However I understand that point of view and your listing is pretty awesome.

Ron Ely who played an older Superboy on an episode of Superboy called The Road to Hell (part 2).

@@Geekwatch00 Well there’s a difference of what different writers would say about superman and it’s psychology and why he helps people, theres the one that he helps himself when he’s helping others. Probably this guy was only talking about the suit but these concepts and deep sh** that Snyder had going around in his universe is nothing new
@@TotallyNotKanye thanks for elaborating. :)
Cavill imo is the most physically accurate but Reeves is the most nostalgic
That's good observation.
I beg to differ, but the _imo_ assertion is highly appreciated.
Reeve didn’t need to be big or buff. He had the ideal face and height but most importantly his portrayal of the character was flawless. Almost like it was his destiny to play Superman. Yeah he was that damn amazing
@@JustinLodes
And yet, he was actually big (6' 4", 192 cm.) and buffed up for the role appropriately for the aesthetical standards of the 70s, as it coincidentally happened to be just around that time that the anabolics-assisted jacked up, ultra-chiseled and defined look started being a thing in the professional bodybuilding circles and subsequently the notion permeated into the general population's perception. Before that and up to that point, the type of physique that Reeve attained and sported in Superman was actually the equivalent, in social perception terms, to that that Cavill attained and sported in Man of Steel.
Costume needs to be like the classic suit with red trunks Superman wore it to honor his mother who made it for him, its iconic.
You forgot Aaron Smolinski, the toddler Superman from Christopher Reeve's first film. He lifted a truck!!!
Cool. Thanks for the info. We'll try to find a way to weave that in on future videos.
Very well done!!! My all-time favorite "Superman moment" from the movies; Henry Cavil at the receiving end of the World Engine. He staggers to his feet and flies THROUGH the beam (testing his might against the beam) and accelerates up and then through the entire Planet Engine, utterly destroying it! The musical score, the action, and the look on his face (reminiscent of Christopher Reeve) was ICONIC!!! RIBBIT! 🐸
I love that scene too. I just feel that Man of Steel movie was a very well put together film.
@@Geekwatch00 I agree 100%! It's in my Home Collection! RIBBIT!!! 🐸

Superman is DC comics not marvel your thinking Spiderman maybe that's marvel
DC characters, especially Superman, is older than Marvel characters... so they had more time to adapt him to live media. In the case of Marvel... Spider-man also has a good number of actors who played him.

Although I grew up watching George Reeves as Superman, the image of Brandon Routh as Superman walking into the Gaitlin gun is a great scene.
I think that's one of the most iconic scene in Routh's movie.
I'm impressed with your very thorough research. The average Joe isn't even aware of Ray Middleton and his portrayal at the World's Fair. It's kinda funny that we only think of 6 or 7 actors playing the role of Superman but we don't know about the obscure movies, commercials or PSAs that were made between the mainstream shows/movies. George Reeves was my introduction Superman, Christopher Reeve was my first cinematic Superman followed by Brandon Routh, I knew Dean Cain and Tom Wellings had TV shows (my little brother was into those shows) and finally Henry Cavill rounded out the big screen Superman. I saw a comment mentioning Clayton Collyer, maybe you can do a part two where you list all the actors who voiced Superman? Henry Cavill is second to none. That includes Christopher Reeves. Hopefully WB Discovery can pull this mess together and give him the deal he deserves so the fans can get the Superman movies we deserve.
Here's me hoping that Cavill returns to Superman.
Cavill's version is not better than Christopher Reeves' version. Superman is the combination of Kent and Kal-El. Cavill's Kent wasn't very strong. He did ok but not like Reeves. I'd have Cavill second to one, not none.
I started laughing at Nicolas Cage as Superman, lol
Me, personally would want to watch a Nic Cage Superman movie.
@@Geekwatch00 Honestly, I think for a Tim Burton movie, he would have worked great. It would have been such a weird take on his character, that he needed someone that was completely the opposite of the "look" archetype of Superman.
I do wonder how such a movie would have turned out. I can picture Edward Scissorhands but with Super Powers, lol.
As much as I love Chris Reeve, every single other actor is just yet another attempt to get someone that kinda somewhat, offhanded, looks like Chris Reeve?
It was fine for Superboy (it was, indeed following the coattails of the Donner films). And Louis and Clark was different enough, with some ideas that I think worked great (Having Clark be the real person and Superman is his mask). Which is why Dean Cain was fine for that role (handsome and squared jawed enough, but not hurting to look like Chris Reeve).
Then the next versions went back to "we need a guy that looks like Chris Reeve", so we get Brandon Routh, Tom Welling, Henry Cavil, etc etc.
And with Routh, they even tried to make that a direct sequel to Superman II, which did not really work (but Routh was fine as Supes, and the movie had some good parts. As a whole it was pretty bland though)
@@apreviousseagle836 I agree to what you've said here.
Chuck Woolery was the biggest surprise on that list. He’s mainly remembered as a game show host. In fact, that’s the autocomplete if you Google his name.

Reeves and Reeves. Besides, you can't beat Marlon Brando as Jorel.
Brando was amazing as Jor-El. I like most interpretation of Superman. I am also bias towards Chris Reeve's Supe as that was my Superman growin up.
Though I've been enjoying Hoechlin's take as our current TV Superman.
Thank you for sharing this, I'm Superman crazy.
Im glad you enjoyed it.
In his list, despite seeming to have all the interpreters of Superman, only Mike O'hearn was missing, in the short film World's Finest of 2004...
World's Finest is an indie fan film... which we are not including for the time being because that's a difficult line to identify.

Bill Murray played Superman on a SNL skit. I think other actors on SNL have portrayed the character as well
This is were it becomes tougher 😊
@@Geekwatch00 He did appear opposite Margot Kidder. 😁😉
@@TheSteveStrom yea I've actually watched that video before.
@@Geekwatch00 Please no, then you'd have to also count Dwayne Johnson's SNL Superman. It's a Pandora's Box.

It's still a missed opportunity for not letting Matt Bomer to have The Superman role, it proves That WB keeps letting us down😑😑😑😑😑
He does look the part.
He did eventually voice Superman in Superman: Unbound.
dude nick cage was gonna play a live action version of one of my favorite animated superman story lines 😭 nd he looked good to. Tho i will say Cavil would kill that role with the black suit and grown out mullet 🔥
Too bad the Nick Cage movie did not happen.
Everyone laughed at the idea...till that behind the scenes footage leaked out. Lol one the best actors of all time at his peak playing Superman would have been something to behold
@@dmonk926 and then we laughed some more at how ridiculous he looked.
C. Reeves was born to be Superman.
😊
Nice history of Supermans

My sister says Christopher reeve was the one and only superman. No others came close. I like the two who were in the superboy tv series and of course Dean Cain. Also of course the latest 2. But hey, to each their own. The idea of Superman will live on for a very long time...
I think there will always be a Superman for every new generation
It's amazing how much henry cavill looks like christopher reeve
Yup strong resemblance in some angle
Reeve. Chistopher Georges Reeves, no relation
@@John_Mcgrane 🤨?.. okaayyy? I never said they were related, I didnt even mention george reeves.
@@joshuaradloff1070 I was giving you the benefit of the doubt as you misspelled Christopher's last name by adding an s.
@@John_Mcgrane 🤦♂wow okay
God, another one of these guys that love the sound of their voice.
Not really, hence the text to speech bot 😅
Great Video very interesting information
Tnx. We try to do our best.
If i remembered it right, nicholas cage once did a voice over as superman in the animated teen titans go movie. For the last guy that portrayed superman, something was up with the video when you didn't mention the cw tv series, superman and lois.
Need to fix that on the next update.
@@Geekwatch00 Oh I wondered what happened there. I was waiting eagerly for Hoechlin and it kinda jumped a bit. Great video otherwise. :)

Christopher Reeves and Henry Cavil are the only two supermans i respect lol
Cool
Tyler Hoechlin really touched my heart in Superman and Lois. I'll add him to the big two
@@emmanuelskyler1148 I had my apprehension with Hoechlin. At the get go, I didn't see him as Superman, he looks too small and because he was first introduced in Supergirl it felt that he was very weak as well. But that all change in his own series, and I've been enjoying every episode of the show.
I remember a TV commercial for the Renault car named "Super Cinq" in 1984 or 1985 where they showed a live-action Superman with the car. They used special effects for the flight and the heat vision. They even used John Williams's main score.
We'll try to look for it, but if you have the link that will be very helpful.
@@Geekwatch00 Here's a link I found : ua-cam.com/video/M2z5rqWfBcQ/v-deo.html That was a French commercial that started like a movie that took place in a movie theater.
@@FrenchmanOfSteel1 this is awesome. By chance do you know who the actor is playing Superman?
@@Geekwatch00 Sorry. No name is given. Probably a stuntman.

Your video was very different from what we see on youtube. There was no screaming or dramatising in the visuals & in your narration. Plain vanilla but highly informative. Keep up the good work man
High praise thanks a lot. We have a few more videos you might want to check out > bit.ly/402hbTU
Please bear with us we are still finding a way to standardize our videos.
Love that you included Nic Cage. His take on Clark Kent would have been epic.
I was skeptical at first, but after watching the Death of Superman Lives docu, I think he would have been good for the role.
I disagree. He wouldn't be a good superman. Just like a few of them on this list. Some were out of place as superman
where is Ron Ely as old Superman from Superboy???
I was struggling if I have to include him in, because would that mean I have to include the actors who played the younger version of the character in their respective tv show/movie?
And the Ron Ely version never wore a Superman costume... I think I drew the line there. :)
Anyways I might have to mention him in future updates.
There’s only one true genuine Superman and that’s Christopher Reeve. He has no equal nor will he ever
What makes him the best?
Bud Collyer should get an honorable mention for playing Superman on the radio for many years
Bud and other voice actors should have their own video, and I'm going to work on that.
You left out Ron Ely, who played a retired Superman in the Road to Hell (Part II) episode of Superboy. ua-cam.com/video/ZXNI5W52dlY/v-deo.html
Might put him in on future updates. Thanks Jeff. :)
Just watched that clip! Pretty cool
@@justice_productions_ will have to include him in future updates.
I like tgat episode which domeone would load it
i guess i like Tom Welling the best and want him to take over as Superman in the next Justice League movie, Vs the Legion of Doom
That could work.
I want to see a fully realized multiverse from WB Discovery.
I can see 3 different main universes with other small universes.
3 main universes would be:
1.what Snyder started.
2.Batman Beyond universe with Keaton and they can build that universe to include other heroes like Superman
3.The universe that Matt Reeves is crafting with The Batman. (This universe can include Michael B Jordan’s Val Zod)
Other non-main universes are The Dark Knight Nolan-verse, Kilmer/Clooney-verse(Schumacher-verse), Titans/Doom Patrol-verse, Fox’s Gotham-verse and another weird combined universe of the CW shows.
If I was part of the committee to form a 10yr plan for DC, I would let Snyder finish his original plan with 2 more JL movies. Then I would devise a plan to interconnect the entire mess DV has given us these past 8yrs into our agonized universes. Then I would devise a plan to create a 2-part film inspired by Crisis on Infinite Earths. Both parts at least 3 hrs. The main character will be Monitor and Pariah and the plan is to create a less confusing timeline. By the end of it fans should be able to understand which movies belong to which universe and a proper timeline can be created for each universe.
@@jLenger1 I want to see these three also :)
Nicholas Cage...with that hair...lol, that would've been epic for non-standard reasons.

Brandon Routh is so wasted. His performance as superman is perfect, he should be the superman of this new DC's studio era. Or at least he should be the earth 2 superman in the justice society, and Henry Cavill the main superman in earth 1 or earth prime's justice league.
He should be given another chance to suit up
You missed Mike O'Hearn in "World's Finest". They finally got a top notch bodybuilder to wear the cape!
Would that be a Fan Film?

Great video. I didn't know about a couple of these. As many have stated, I would have probably not included the couple (Cage) that didn't appear in a released piece of media.
Thanks for the comment. I'll think about it in regards to Cage.
4:57 minor correction, the first movie Christopher Reeve was in was titled 'Superman: The Movie', not just 'Superman'.

@@Geekwatch00 gotcha! ✌️😁
Nicolas Cage doesn't count, "Superman Lives" never made it out of preproduction. "Superboy" shouldn't be listed here either.
Thanks for the input. We'll consider it on the next update. We're thinking of removing Cage and Cotrona as both movies did not happen, as for the "Superboys" we might consider changing the title so that it would properly reflect that this is the Kal-El version of the character.
He is an official Superman tho, at least in the teen titans go universe
