You're not an older fan if you're in your early 20s. Love Live's target audience is 20-35 year old males. I'm 26 and have been a fan since I was 18. Love live is the best thing that ever happend to me.

I'd have to disagree about the target audience range, many of the Love Live fans that I see and know within the Love Live community are generally either underaged or very early 20s. I have a hard time seeing Love Live as something made for 35 year olds, but for someone in the 20s. I can see being a big core demographic. A large number of women also associate and love these characters as well, so I'd note them too. I can definitely agree on Love Live being a great thing that happened to me too tho!

@@ghostvalkyrie5054 It‘s the target audience for Japanese fans. Idol anime like Love Live, idolmaster etc. and the idol industry as a whole (akb 48, Morning Musume etc.) is generally created for Japanese working age men in order to give them something to relax about after work. Love Live is even on the younger side, the usual target audience for classical idols like AKB 48 are men from 30 to 40 years of age. If you got to a Love Live concert you‘ll see mostly 20-35 year old males (even though I‘ve also seen people over 40). Very few females (maybe about 5%) and pretty much no underaged people. I don‘t know where you live, but of course it‘s entirely possible that the demographics are different there. Especially since anime in the west is still considered to be something for kids and something you grow out of. But yeah, the target audience for Japan are definitely adult males. What I actually wanted to say with my comment is that you‘re the original intended audience for Love Live age wise. I think that most business execs couldn‘t have predicted that Love Live would become so big, especially outside of Japan, therefore Love Live probably has a diverse range of fans nowadays, even though the creators didn‘t plan for it to happen.

it's worth to remember, idol genre fans can stays fans for a long time, so 20-35 counts a lot of veteran idol fans in Japan, which jump fandoms, and many are pushing 40 now, so it skews the age up. agewise, we actually have a very good sample of Muse's fandom and Aqours fandom(for new fans), that is Aqours and Liella's seiyuus. Aqours seiyuu right now average age 29, which means they mostly entered the fandom around age 16. and Liella's seiyuu averages 23, which means they gots into the fandom at 15. (or even younger)

    • @mojabaka
      @mojabaka 8 місяців тому +5

@@holeeshi9959 The seiyuus don‘t represent the average fan and also not the target audience, which is what I was talking about. If you got to a Love Live concert in Japan, or other Love Live themed events, like a Love Live themed cafe, you‘ll notice that 90% of fans are 20-35 year old males. I think that they recently started to aim for a younger audience, since Nijigasaki and Superstar are extremely family friendly (the original and Sunshine had Nozomi doing „washi washi“ and Mari touching Kanan‘s boobs). But yeah, I still stand by my point, the vast majority of fans in Japan are 20-35 year old males, even if the staff is trying to change things a bit. It‘s not even important, I‘m just tired of people who claim that it‘s a kid show and that people like me (26) are too old for it. I just want to tell them „bitch please, I‘m literally the target audience“.

Glad that apparently I’m still relevant??? and that you can realize what I realized when I uh
Made my first Love Live video.
I think it’s blatantly apparent from my Love Live Guide and Quiz videos that I obviously know that Love Live is more than just a story. I’m literally a fan of Toku which is glorified children’s toy commercials. My only goal with my love live analytical videos was to make people realize the STORY wasn’t bad. I have never said the anime was the only way to experience it, it’s just the main thing I focused on. My greatest regret has always been that I never finished my Love Live analytical series so I could make a 5 hour long degenerate video talking about why Love Live will never go away due to the genius of their marketing/content output and fan interaction, but I’m better off leaving.
You have to at least understand that when I entered the Love Live community in 2015, we were still neck deep in the whole “all moe shows are bad and have no meaning and everyone who likes them is just a creep,” as well as during the dawn of the video essay genre. Nowadays, I don’t care for video essay content (which is why I stopped making content) and find doing so only makes people feel smarter than others which deviated from my original and primary goal of just providing those who don’t think Love Live is just dumb popcorn trash (who seem to be in the majority nowadays due to moe and idol culture being normalized) with a way to vocalize what has always been on their minds, because i know i needed that when everyone called me stupid when i was a teenager who only watched battle shounen. I would have made more videos on the appeal outside of the story but I felt my Guide video did that well enough, as it seems to be a pretty good entryway for the series.
I’m happy to see you find the type of content you like to make and I’m happy to see I’m always in your heart!
    Sincerely,
    98

Honestly a big part of what made me say that was because of that interaction I had with you over Kotori all those ages ago. I really just didn't like (and to some degree didn't understand) that ending, and even though I tried arguing it decently you were talking down on me in a rude fashion the entire time which put a really bad taste in my mouth. After the argument I remember you saying that you went off on me because you were tired of people not understanding the story and having to explain it so much. Even with the best intentions I felt you were pushing so hard for me to appreciate the story in that one specific instance that it ended up pushing me away. That one instance had painted a bad picture of you in my mind, which seems to be a misjudgment of your character. I don't know you personally but I'll run with the idea that you just had a bad day or something and let it be water under the bridge. Still, I hope that I haven't made you feel like your content did that to everyone. You genuinely love the story of Love Live, and I wish we had more Love Live youtubers who cared about it to the degree that they'd make video after video about it passionately. For what it's worth, I'm sorry that the first thing you hear from me in years was condescension. I just watched your goodbye video while writing this and I understand the pressure being a UA-camr is, hell it put me through a long identity crisis when I lost my old channel to a termination. Wherever you go in the future, I wish you the best.

@@ghostvalkyrie5054 I’ll admit that I don’t hold analytical content in such high esteem anymore considering that’s why I left. None of my videos are about why love live is objectively the best series ever created, just showing what the stories are trying to say. I think I’ve said on several occasions that SIP S1 is easily the weakest season of Love Live aside from NijiGaku, but if you actually watch my analytical videos, quality and “the right way to like Love Live” never comes up.
I remember our interaction. While admittedly, I was being aggressive, at no point was our interaction about “the right way to experience and love the series.” You proclaimed something very specific about Love Live and why S1’s ending was bad: “one of Love Live’s main themes was realism and the way the ending played out was unrealistic,” which was the only thing that was focused on. At no point did I tell you that the story was the most important thing and that if you don’t like S1’s ending you just aren’t a Love Live fan, just that “realism” can’t be considered “a theme” and that nothing about the ending of SIP S1 was all that unrealistic considering the blatant levels of suspension of disbelief required to believe anything in Love Live. And tbf, you were very negative and saying very negative things towards Kotori.
I honestly don’t give a damn about trying to defend Love Live’s story anymore since it’s an uphill battle and the way I went about it outside of my channel was mainly fueled by the way I engaged in shounen discussion, two things that don’t really mix. So it’s whatever.
Good luck in whatever it is you do.

I found SIP back in Dec. 2020, I was 19 then. At that time, I'd been feeling really *bleh* because of things that were happening between me and my friends. Not much comfort, just stress and bits of betrayal.
But I found SIP then, courtesy of seeing fanart of Nico. This ended up helping me turn everything around. Nico's Backstory was very relatable to me, to the extent that I cried. Twice. And then two other times during the show's runtime. No other show I'd ever watched made me cry once, speaking to how insecure and emotionally tired I was then...
But along with Nico's Backstory, the whole show itself was just so overtly positive and hopeful - two things I really needed at the time. Such that by the end of the following January, a couple weeks after I'd finished watching SIP, people I talked to could actually notice a legitimate difference in my attitude. I was still deadpan, but I was less pessimistic and less aggressive.
As time went on, I watched Sunshine and Niji with a friend of mine, and SIP is now a show that all 3 of my closest friends have watched, to bond with me over in some way.
But the characters, not the narratives, are what drew me in to LL. They look nice, they have relatable personalities, and the designs are simple and down-to-earth. They feel genuine, earnest, and comforting. They're like animated plushies given a voice and 100s of songs.
Seems fitting then, that a friend of mine, the same one who had caused me so much stress and depression before Dec 2020, gifted me a Nico plushie on my 20th birthday in March...
Safe to say, LoveLive isn't going anywhere for me anytime in the foreseeable future.

I’m a young adult that still loves this franchise and I agree with a lot of thing said in this video. I find myself still struggling to recommend the series when focusing on a narrative or literary lens, because while I do think there are strong themes to the stories, that’s not necessarily the only or main reason you could get into the franchise.
I got into the franchise because I was looking for more music similar to a series from my childhood called Mermaid Melody, and I liked the character designs (particularly Umi who was my main waifu for the rest of my teenage years. I still love the character overall but I of course had to grow out of calling her a waifu for obvious reasons.) And I got what I asked for. I got amazing songs to listen to that I still love to this day and characters that have stayed with me throughout my high school life and I’ll continue to love as I go through college.
Like you said, there’s also so much content to consume now. Some could say that it’s overwhelming but I love each and every group that they’ve introduced. These characters are so colorful and the music just makes me happy. I don’t think there needs to be a complex reason why I find enjoyment in this series. It just something I enjoy from my teenage years that I continue to get something out of even as a developing adult.

As someone who is 18, turning 19 within a month, I do at times feel a bit weird for still liking Love Live as much as I do. I got into the series when I was 14, in large part due to your content, and was quite into it for a good bit, though ironically I've realized that I'm far more knowledgeable and care more about the series now than I ever did. I kinda got over Love Live for a good bit, as I feel Love Live more or less sparked my "weaboo phase" that thankfully lasted only a year or so, and once I got out of that I stopped caring about the series as much. By the time I stopped really being involved with Love Live, I hadn't watched anything but the original show and movie. I got back into the series in late 2020, funnily enough because I was bored on a road trip and played Love Live: School Idol Festival for the first time in years. Because I became interested again, I finally watched Sunshine, which is what really got me into the series as a whole. Though my interest has waxed and waned over this last year and a half, I've been a really big fan of Love Live, both watching all the shows as they came out (mostly), and listening to the music a lot. I really do think I never would've gotten into the series at my current age, although maybe I could've gotten into the music, but because I started with the series young, I always get this sort of pure happiness when I watch the show, and it's a feeling I can rarely get from anything else. I hope the series continues on strong, and enables some future generations to get the same sort of pure, innocent joy I get when I watch it.

When I showed my dad Snow Halation, he described it as "Innocent Fun", and I think that's a very true observation. Even as I have become older and found new ways to tackle the franchise, I can still enjoy a Love Live song as much as I do a Sabaton song. For whatever reasons they may be, Love Live as all these comments and how you put it, offers a unique experience for people with many different entry points that still create an amazing and passionate experience for many over an extended period of time. It makes me really happy to know that people take this show seriously as much as I do, and for differing reasons, and I really do hope that these videos can help people come to love and engage with the series as they please.

I've been a Love Live fan for a little over a year. Found it when I was 20 (didn't really watch anime at the time) and decided to give it a watch. Loved the original, and Sunshine as well (Sunshine's story was a little repetitive, but the characters were honestly even better). But something I noticed as I started watching the later series like Niji and Superstar is that the shows are getting really repetitive and not willing to take risks. I still love School Idol Project and Superstar a lot, it's one of the reasons I still keep up with the series. I think a lot of guys who get into the series are looking for some sort of emotional comfort in their lives. I myself was living alone, wasn't in college, didn't have any friends, and just went to work all week. I needed something to kind of offer some sort of support and the Love Live girls kind of were that thing. But what really set the show apart for me is just how genuine it feels, it actually feels like the characters are real people with real struggles. I think a lot of us fans aren't too different, honestly.

I feel you and I are kindred spirits
I've also grown with it since high school, I eventually got attached, my tastes have changed, I've been an Aqours fan for the longer time, And I've come to terms that this ain't an anime franchise, it's a project, an event in which we all participate. The motto of the franchise is "A story made by all" for a reason, that's why this franchise can be a niche despite constantly being in the top 5 grossing japanese franchises.
We all cringe at our past, I got to deep into lore territory, argued for fact checking, was a diehard µ's fan who couldn't accept they wouldn't perform anymore, which doesn't matter in the slightest in hindsight.
But as they say, men will take stuff they like in their 20's and carry on with them for life, and I don't think I'll regret this one.

I got into Love Live during my middle school years and now as a young adult in my early years of college, I still find a lot of enjoyment in this franchise. There's just something about Love Live that has this grasp on me that no other idol franchise, or any other franchise has been able to come close to. To be honest, Love Live has served as the anchor of my interests for all of these past years. I'm not too proud to admit this, but I first got into the franchise through the memes but I ended up staying because I had a really strong attachment to the music and the characters. Heck, I listen to Love Live on a nearly daily basis because of how much I enjoy it. Growing up with Love Live has been quite the journey through all of the experiences I've had enjoying it by myself and with others. It almost feels like the franchise is growing up with us with all of the new content that's being made to this day.
I also found myself agreeing with a lot of the things you said in this video. We all enjoy Love Live for various reasons and it honestly shouldn't take away from our experiences with it. Love Live might not be the easiest franchise to get into, but one thing I think we all can agree on is that it's amazing and inspirational in so many different ways.

I personally think that finding one single way to get into Love Live to recommend the series to others can be difficult, but like you mentioned everyone enjoys it for various reasons and I think that it's less hard to get into as a whole and more that it can be hard to force others to like the series by encouraging them to watch it through one sole method. The best way to approach Love Live in my eyes is naturally, by finding what you like and rolling with it for no other reason than you like it and continue to like it. Seeing the new ways the series is taken and diverse range of media produced by it month after month really is the gift that keeps on giving.

I got into Love Live back when the original series aired.
For me, what captivated me was the novelty of it, and how it stood out in its promotion and storytelling compared to other idol shows that were popular at the time (Idolm@ster, K-on, etc). It is for this exact reason that I was less enthusiastic about the second season, since although it was good it no longer offered this novelty.
I guess everyone has their own story to tell about Love Live and its legacy, and that is what makes both the show and its community so interesting, even all these years later.

There's so much of this franchise to indulge in but most people take it in face value and never really go in depth beyond the anime, music, and maybe the concerts. So seems everybody is dropping how they got into LL and why they still like it… Okay, so let’s do this one more time.
I got into Love Live when I decided to watch my first anime during Covid, since uh, something to do y’know. Frankly, I wanted to just watch something more peaceful and happy, which is something I feel like American cartoons or shows never provide. Anyways, when I simply searched up ‘wholesome animes’ on Google, LOVE LIVE, the poster of all 9 Muse girls instantly caught my attention. I would soon take a dive into the episodes of Love Live, and like a show I had never experienced, it just felt low-tune and apparently good music! Before I knew it, I watched all of SIP, and couldn’t process they really were a finish group… Eventually, I would finish coping and started Sunshine, and wow Sunshine is really something else. I’ve rewatched Sunshine episodes so many times and it’s what really establish Love Live as my favorite anime. Love Live really changed my music taste to love J-pop, and every now and then I’ll drop Love Live, but some darn Snow Halation remix will always get me back into Love Live again. The idol hell can’t be escaped, and I have a feeling somehow it’s never going to go away 😂

I can really understand your point of wanting Love Live to be more serious or mature. It's feels nice having people recognizing a thing you love as something yk nice and take it seriously. I suppose it's much easier to do that if the series IS serious or mature but that's besides the point. Love Live is a silly franchise with cute songs and cute girls. I found the bit about fans wanting to tell stories from a more mature lens interesting since ive recently gotten into LL fanfic and by far I appreciate fluffy content above all. However one series that handles a more mature take super well is niconicorose's New Melody Project, and I think that's got a lot to do with the fact that shes in her early 40s so actually has life experience to draw from. Idk where I'm going with this but uhh read nmp

I laughed when you said that you were in your early 20s given the title of the video, because I'm now 25 and I swear that I've seen a couple of fans on Twitter who were younger than 16. THAT makes me feel like an older Love Live! fan. I've liked the series since I was 17. What do you think about younger fans right now (given you're older by the time I've posted this comment) especially those who are in their mid-teens?
I think the most interesting point you make here is that people in their teens want to approach what they enjoy in more mature ways. Can't say I relate to that in the same sense. My engagement of the series has matured because I've only grown to appreciate the series more and more as time goes by in different ways. That applies to the story, characters and themes which are the parts that I focus on the most. However, I've also been slowly appreciating the other aspects of the series more too and my experiences there resonate with what you say about understanding that there are multiple ways for someone to enjoy the series. I appreciate the perspective you gave here.

I'm actually 24 right now and got into Love Live around the same age you did funnily enough. I've actually met someone who I'm pretty sure was either 15 or 16 in the fandom, which made me feel older too I must say. I think what's interesting is that with every generation in the series, there's a new set of fans that comes along with it. With Muse being well over 10 years old at this point, it makes me think about the fact for how old some Superstar fans are, there are Muse fans who surpass me by 5, 10 years, probably even more. I actually found the whole "young fans wanting to appreciate it more" to be especially noteworthy, as some Superstar fans I've seen will defend Season 2 like their lives depend on it, likely because of how it relates to them. If you analyze something at a young age and you feel it's well made, if someone criticizes it, the criticism can feel more personal than intended. It's like, "this piece of media is poorly written and therefore, because you judged it to be of worth, you aren't as mature as you seem to think". Of course, even if that's unintended, I get that reaction from Superstar fans more than Muse Aqours and to a degree Niji fans. I think it's because they're the newest and youngest editions to the Love Live fandom. I don't inherently dislike Superstar fans of course, I simply find the reactions I get from certain fans more than others really telling about the age groups of the audience. I'm glad you asked the question because I really want to talk more about this in the future, so thank you!

    Really interesting video
As for me, I discovered love live when I was 14-15~. Back then I was really lonely, didn't have much friends in my class and was always on my phone. Then I randomly found out about SIF, liked the game and decided to watch the anime. Needless to say, I grew up with the girls. Right now I'm 22 and still engage with the series, I found a lot of friends through this fandom and I'm glad for it.
Now I just force my bf to watch lives with me haha

I got into Love Live about 2 years ago(strangely enough, it was because of a certain Blend S parody that unfortunately got taken down) and honestly, I REGRET ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. However, I will admit that it has been kinda hard to live with this interest being a 16 year old African American male in a society where peers will view you as the creepy dude from that one Powerpuff Girls episode(IMO, it's more difficult being a MALE Love Live fan than a female Love Live fan, at least in America). I swear, even though my school is considerably big, I feel like I'm the ONLY fan in the school, let alone the only male fan Sometimes, I'll have to cover my phone super fast while scrolling through UA-cam in public because there will be a Love Live UR community post or something and people will see a anime girl in some bikini and silently think I'm some kinda weirdo or perv. Take this as you please, but I say from the bottom of my heart that I am NOT like that at all. Recently, I've actually brought a couple of Love Live pins and worn them on my backpack to a few summer camps, but I still haven't gotten the courage to wear them to school, even though I have VERY understanding friends. Idk I just wish that I could love the stuff I love without the notion that people will judge me wrongly for it. Love Live has changed my way in SO MANY WAYS and I want people to know that I am an avid fan with no regret.

So, I know that is a little difficult, but if you love this anime it's ok to show it. People will judge you even for things that you don't do.

I liked LL when I was like not even 5. And since then I liked idol, slice of life, and school animes. I did kept liking LL series throughout Aqours and Nijigasaki, but kinda forgot abt LL until I rewatched LL series animes recently. I’ll spend my whole life fangirling LL. Adding to that, Ijigen fes made me even more into it.

I think i gotten into LL arnd niji 1st season anime when i was 20, i believe before superstar was made. I started with SIP, the songs were great with a decent, not really game breaking storyline as compared to other animes released arnd in 2020. But when I watched Sunshine, I could find myself relating more to them with the setbacks they faced along the way and their struggles. I have also just within the past year getting more invested in other parts of LL other then the anime, almost catching up to the live concerts for the 3 groups that are actuve now, not including hasunosora. I am currently studying in uni and LL is still my best source of comfort and de-stressing from the test and exams in school. I really hope that I will still be able interested in LL in the future and be able to catch them live when I am financially stable hahhaha

The first time I interacted with love live I was in high school, and was a huge yuri fan with a broken heart from so many queer-bait anime so I didn't give it a chance, dimissing it as just another low effort, gutless yuri-bait anime. I only got into love live throught SIF, as I love Rhythm games to death. sunshine was the first season I watched.

look at a perspective: Lovelive has been around since 2010, a 16 year old getting in at the Start of the series would be almost 30 now, and some members Muse casts are old enough to be Liella's mothers. Aqours Seiyuu, which would be close to the demographic agewise of the first batch of "fans" of lovelive, averages age 29. if you are younger than half of the Aqours seiyuu, you are not old at all, because Aqours are still young.

  • @Cashmoneez
    @Cashmoneez 4 місяці тому

Saying your an “older” fan when in your early 20s ☠️ not to be mean but my guy you’re not that old. In general I think being an older LL fan is even easier since SIP was borderline mainstream and very popular. But if aqours was your generation that might be harder. I agree tho that people always feel like they HAVE to mature and grow out of the things they think are childish but you really don’t 🤷‍♂️ funny enough that’s something you learn as you get older and nostalgic

    • @ghostvalkyrie5054

"older" definitely is a bit of a loose term since it's dependent on who exactly you're comparing, like me vs some of the younger Superstar fans, but your point is taken. I definitely feel like a kid in comparison to someone in the community like Rintaichou (who I think is 31 or 32 as of this comment). When it comes to analysis, I found with age that accepting the faults of a show and still enjoying it shows appreciation for it without putting it on a high pedestal. Being able to go back and look at media I enjoyed as a kid from a more adult lens is honestly such a treat sometimes, so I relate to what you say in the latter half of the comment too.

    • @Cashmoneez
      @Cashmoneez 4 місяці тому +2

@@ghostvalkyrie5054 I would not even say enjoying it in an adult lense. I think its fine to have opinions about media that were formed during your formative years. I.e. theres nothing wrong with liking something you did before for reasons that no longer apply to you. There no need to rationalize objectively why you liked something when you were younger imo
