Easy Okonomiyaki Recipe | Japanese Cabbage Pancake
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2021
- This recipe is a simplified version of Osaka-style okonomiyaki, made with easy-to-find ingredients and simple steps. However, for an authentic taste, it is recommended to use special ingredients like katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes) and beni shoga (pickled ginger). The okonomi sauce is a must-have for okonomiyaki because it adds an extra dimension to the dish's flavor profile-a delicious combination of savory, sweet, and umami flavors.

Sooo nice
Nice 👍
Easy recipe.. Thank you.. Now a day.. All stuff is highly price.. This surely help me out but may be I change bacon to another meat or chicken..
Nice
This is challenging to find but do try to seek out imported Japanese Okonomiyaki flour mix or Korean pancake mix. Secret ingredient? The former has potato yam flour in it and the latter has guar gum - both add a slight jelly like effect - nice 😊
Just for reference, traditionally the pork belly/bacon in this instance, faces up in the end 👍🏽
Thank you SO much for this awesome & delicious recipe .In St Helens, Tasmania, we have a FANTASTIC Japanese restaurant restaurant called RAIDA & their food is SO GOOD!..Not greasy,...delicate & awesome...Clean, REAL food.....Whenever, I go to this Japanese restaurant, always, have the "Pancake" with prawns...Comes with an assortment of veggies & avocado & tasty dressing......
That restaurant sounds amazing and yes, seafood okonomiyaki is so good!
👍👏👏👏
Those Bonito flakes where moving around
Any good non-pork alternatives for the protein?
This recipe is also great with seafood like squid, shrimp, or scallops.
This is excellent do you have a recipe for okonomi sauce tks
Thank you! I don’t have a detailed recipe for the homemade okonomi sauce yet but you can make it with Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce (or oyster sauce), ketchup, and sugar.
I tried this today very tasty 😀😀😀
@@BreakfastForOne that sounds similar to a recipe I've seen for homemade tonkatsu sauce, are they pretty close in flavor?
my version was more of an omelette with cabbage in it.. what are you supposed to taste more? The egg or the cabbage?
The overall flavor of okonomiyaki is complex, with no single ingredient dominating. The strong sauce binds all the ingredients together, but I personally taste more cabbage than eggs.
I'd have to skip the Bonito... Sorry, don't like fish, but WOW it looks tasty and simple to make.
make your own tenkasu, its so simple, so why replace it with panko? But it is your recipe, and I think I'm gonna try it.
What is a substitute for bonito flakes?
You can sprinkle some furikake instead. It's definitely not an exact substitute, but it will still add a nice flavor and texture.
Is there a substitute version of the okonomiyaki sauce?
Katsu sauce or takoyaki sauce may be the closest you can get. You can also make your own version by combining worcestershire sauce, soy sauce (or oyster sauce), ketchup, and sugar.
I made it. Was the middle supposed to be soft? I expect a crunchy kind of pancake?
@@marylockwood4400 Yes, it is supposed to be a little crispy on the edges and soft in the middle.
@@marylockwood4400 - Look up Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It's more layered, rather than mixed together, and it's less doughy.
Better, in my opinion. YMMV
@@cacogenicist thank you. I'll try it.
Can I make this without baking powder
You can skip baking powder in this particular recipe!
I feel like this caught on bc it was an amalgamation of nostalgic flavors for Japanese people. Maybe it was born from combining popular ingredients at the time that were leftover. Maybe it is bc they were more creative and willing to try different things. Who knows? I don't. Constantly debate making it but I'm not a huge fan of fish flakes.

What kind of cabbage?.?
Can you replace soy souce with something else? It's so expensive and hard to find in my country that we can't really cook asian food because it's needed in everything.
Fish sauce and oyster sauce would make an excellent substitute. If they are unavailable, other options would be Tamari or Worcestershire sauce. Hope this helps!
Is baking powder necessary?
It probably won't make a noticeable difference in this recipe.
Rather different than the okonomiyaki I had in Hiroshima
This is Osaka style where its all mixed together rather than the layers like Hiroshima style
Pinch of salt? I tastes nothing
That's what the okonomi sauce is for: to add a salty flavor to okonomiyaki.
@@BreakfastForOne well its not in ingredients list and i did not see the last seconds of the video anyway i need salt inside to taste the dish
@@ninososelia4344that’s your own fault if you didnt watch it till the end lmao

Doesn’t look healthy
You must be fun at parties. It's a treat. Don't eat it every day,
And it isn't particularly unhealthy.
Cabbage is a super food full of nutrients
Squid is the preferred way. Take that bacon out of there.
