  • Thats right, I don't wear sneakers anymore (except to the gym). The sole reason (pun intended) being that I found a much better shoe. I think it's time everyone made an upgrade.
    If you're looking to switch over to boots, check the links below which will support me but I've also got you covered based on your budget:
    $50-$100 Boots:
    • Clarks Desert Boot : amzn.to/2JKv7zE

      Jack Black great question! It happens to be these boots are unlined so they breathe really well. If you don’t have unlined boots see if it makes a difference. The other option is wearing my favorite warm weather boots- chukka boots! I recommend Clark’s desert boot which actually was made for soldiers stationed in the Egyptian desert!

    What do you wear on the warm spring days and the hot summer days? What part of the country do you live in? In the warmer seasons, boots look too heavy and seem like they would be too hot. Sneakers may seem better for those really hot summer days as opposed to boots.

    • @TheMensch

      shelleyinthecity totally! I think this video is true generally when the weather isn’t super hot - but when the weather gets warm I will definitely opt for short and lighter shoes. Boots look bad with shorts but when I’m wearing chinos In the summer I usually wear desert boots! Which are low and light weight! Still there are great non sneaker options like boat shoes and camp Mocs. And of course I do still have a pair of sneakers like me adidas Stan smiths and new balances

  • @IntegrityDistribution

    In terms of quality and longevity, have you ever tried a premium sneaker like hand stitched calfskin Crown Northampton sneakers? If I trip or something I’ve kind of felt like letting my weight fall for a sec saves my ankles pretty much every time… that might not be doable in boots and with any stumbling there might be less option for damage control. I feel like fatigue would be a little more in boots due to the extra weight and heat and they’d also take longer to get on… to be honest I don’t think I’m a boot guy and I haven’t given them a try.
    I will say that it sounds like the Crown Northamptons sound like they have many of the same benefits without the boot look. Much of my work is not standing, so for my work I think I’d prefer agility over support.

    forgot to ask, you mentioned Adidas boost, how would you compare moc toes (with traction tred sole) vs Adidas boosts?

    • @TheMensch
      @TheMensch  5 років тому

      Very different feel- but basically with boost, I feel a lt of compression in the insole of the shoe as I Walk. its as if you're walking on foam and the foam is being push down by your foot. The Red wing doc toe sole is a hard leather insole that is stiff and molds to your foot shape which feels a lot more supportive than the boost. The outsole is soft which makes softens and absorbs the impact with the ground. but overall the moc toe boot has a stiff and sturdy insole whereas adidas boost is more of a cushion

    I was a runner and am now more of a fitness generalist. I like the comfort of wearing very padded running shoes like Saucony Triumph during the day, or something more supportive like Mizuno Waverunner. Have you come across anyone who liked (higher endish) running shoes who made the transition to boots and found them more comfortable? I still sprint and run middle distance. I am the type to get bored walking in a parking lot and will do a fast jog to the front door, so I am wondering if boots can handle daily use for high-energy people.

    word of advice to the viewers, if you're a blue collar man(like myself) spend the extra on Redwing, Chippewa, or Carolina boots, clean and shine/maintain atleast once a month and you'll have something that should last you your entire adult life, if the soles crack or wear down replacement vibrams are $15-20(never seen a cracked vibram in my life) and it shouldn't be much more to have them re-soled
    don't settle for timberland, wolverine, dickes or any of the lesser, inexpensive, overseas "bargains"

    I live in Hawaii, not giving up my sneakers my man. You don’t see a lot of boot due to weather and lifestyles. I would argue that a majority of the population doesn’t own a pair of boots unless they are military or need them to work. The slippers rein supreme here, no need boots when Hawaiian haha. Barefoot or bust.

      Haha right on! Yeah if you live in a climate where it’s really hot then it doesn’t make sense to wear jeans and boots. I’m really speaking to people in climates where the weather fluctuates between seasons. I definitely don’t wear my big boots when it’s 95 degrees outside and neither should you! • @patricknakamura567
      @patricknakamura567 5 років тому +1

      The Mensch on Menswear so from what I've researched, the difference between the two is that RW has superior soles. RW has cork while my service boots from Chippewa have a synthetic material like foam. Pro is I had no break in, con is that they probably won't age as well as a RW. Stitching and welting seems to be about the same. Chippewa has a slimmer toe as well.

    • @TheMensch
      @TheMensch  5 років тому +1

      interesting... to me the sole is not necessarily the biggest deal as I dont do any sort of hard labor in my boots. What I want to know is if the leather quality is up to RW. For me that mean no loose grain! Very important! @@patricknakamura567

    Sounds to me like you where wearing cheap sneakers.
    Also how high the materials are on your shoes has absolutely nothing to do with preventing ankle injuries unless you are wearing braces.
    Seriously why do you think Basketball shoes are coming in low tops more and more often. It's because high-tops don't really do anything for your ankles and it's been proven that they don't.
    If anything they make ankle injuries more likely because if gives people a false sense of protection they aren't getting.
    In terms of your cold ankles I guess that's a reason though to be honest I have literally never heard anyone ever complain about that before this video. Oh and I live in Upstate NY where national record snow falls almost every year.
    To each there own I guess.

    • @TheMensch
      @TheMensch  4 роки тому +1

      I appreciate your feedback- what kind of sneakers do you recommend for a high quality shoe with support? I think the things you said are very minor advantages that I feel like come with wearing boots but I think ultimately the reason I prefer boots is because of the support I get in the footbed and arch whereas a pair of flat converse do not provide. I actually love new balance sneakers and that’s what I wear during the summer time for the most part. I also just think boots lasting longer than sneakers where I can literally own a pair of boots for life bec I can get them resoled whereas guys my age nowadays spend hundreds on sneakers that they baby and barely even take out of the box.

    • @loneponderer495
      @loneponderer495 4 роки тому

      @@TheMensch Most any modern pair of athletic shoe are good. Converse are a really old design originally used as basketball shoes in like the 60's or 70's. Now days they are worn more as a fashion statement or by skateboarders. They aren't really design for support by modern standards. New Balance I kind of have mixed feelings about. Though they are considered a decent brand I have only had one pair and I hated them so much I have never had the urge to try another par. I think it's just a matter of how each persons feet are I guess. Personally I prefer Adidas. I have owned a number of pars from them and they last me until I feel like buying a new set (typically a year or more). They also have a variety of midsole cushions that range from only slightly soft to very soft. I would avoid their Boost runners. Mostly do to the tread wearing out to fast. If you go with something like a pair of Ultra Boost All Terrain then you can get the cushion with much better longer lasting tread. Also shoes with bounce cushion are great and a good choice for those who find boost a little overkill in term of softness. I would recommend you try them in person (in store) if you want to give them a shot. Adidas has their own sizing method that makes it tricky for some to get the right size if they aren't use to them. If you get the right size they will support you very good. Also you can get them in color ways that make them not scream out sneakers so you can wear them casually without feeling like you are an overgrown kid.
      Damn I write long comments. Guess that's why I don't like twitter. LOL!

    This didn't make much sense. Why cover your love of boots with a bunch of nonsensical arguments to make it appear logical.
    Any pair of quality sneakers will last you 2 years MINIMUM. Hell even cheap discount sneakers will last you that long.
    Dirty? Grab a sponge and spend 10 mins cleaning them or take them to a cobbler. Stinky? Boots can also stink. That's your hygiene not the shoes. You can also have them disinfected professionally for like 10 bucks.
    Your ankles are cold? You said it yourself, wear long socks.. I ride a motorcycle in the winter. A good thick sock and I don't feel a thing. Comfort? Yeah go tell all the retail store workers to suffer in boots throughout their shift instead of putting on an ultra light pair of sneakers.
    Then you mention nature but you also say that your feet require artificial support. What? Ever heard of barefoot shoes and their benefits?
    Why would your feet require artificial support by design. This makes no sense.
    Oh and good luck wearing boots in dry and hot environments especially when you're wearing short pants because you don't want to die..
    You like leather? Great so do I. Plenty of leather sneakers around.
    You wanna look more mature?
    Good for you, but irrelevant to whether sneakers are good footwear or not.
    No need for this whole thing. Just say you like boots. We all do. That's why we're here.
