    It would be cool if you could put your hrs. of service in on the load board and only loads that would fit your hours would pop up.

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  4 місяці тому

      I agree, that would be great. It would also be great if they could list loads that you physically could get to in the prescribed amount of time since they know your location.
      They’ll never do either of these because end of the day, they want you (and me) to be accountable for variables. If they said “Here’s a load you can make it to” but then there’s traffic and the traffic makes you late or go over you HOS, you would have a leg to stand on for your performance dispute had they suggested it. By not suggesting anything, they’re able to shift 100% or the risk to you and I and I promise you that’s the way they’ll keep it unfortunately🙁

      I met a guy a few weeks back absolutely crushing it with a sprinter van. He did oversized medical courier services and it really made me think about it not mattering what you drive but what that check looks like in the end.
      In the short time I’ve been doing this, it feels like most truckers look down on box trucks. Both truckers and box truck guys look down on sprinter vans, and here’s a guy in a sprinter van making more than most of us.
      Long story short, if I figure out how to make more money in my Honda Accord, I’ll be doing that. Someone’s worth is not dependent on the size vehicle they drive, ego might be tied to it, but my ego has never earned me a dime.

      Last night I actually had an argument (I guess you could call it that) with the Relay Bot (I’ve got receipts on this). We agreed on price but not on time (I was asking for a 15 minute delay). We went back and forth with these 15 minutes. In the end, I didn’t get it but it kept trying to sell it to me without changing the time.
      It’s strange because had it been a person, I know they would have given it to.
      I absolutely despise talking to computers. My last job had a lot of this and it is quite a defeating feeling.

      @@STATTrucking I believe you sounds like the industry is about to go to this one and I need to figure it out so I’m not left out in other words if this logistics industry goes to this point and somebody doesn’t get it down pat and stay 2 or 3 steps ahead of the game then hauling freight working for yourself will be worse off and too hard to catch up technology is something else but I bet that it’s a short cut with it or something like where it makes it quicker but I’m sure going to pay attention to you

  • @theblackrose470

    Ok, first I agree 100% on the ability to adjust pickup times. Like you said, how many freekin' times have we seen a load, that if we only had, sometimes 15 more minutes, we could take it. So that is something I've been waiting for. 2nd, I haven't tried the little BOT Icon yet. Just clicked on it to see what it did. That isn't going to work though if it just "Auto Books" at the first counteroffer. 3rd, I keep hearing you can't use the "App Not Detecting Arrival" anymore, but I continue to use if it's the LAST drop without an issue. I hardly ever use it, so I'm wondering if this is just another case where if you abuse the system, A.I. will flag you and ding your score. You're right though, we are getting paid to finish that final leg, so it's not like were losing, we just can't "Double Dip" anymore. 4th, how do you get the Load Board to show up on your phone in the version it shows on a laptop? Mine always defaults to the App version now. The App version is no good IMO...🤷...Finally, IMO, all of these rules Amazon has implemented are due to drivers and O/O, who continually try to game the system. I wish Amazon would just restrict or ban individuals/companies, instead of these blanket policy changes. Good videos...🤝

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  4 місяці тому

      I never use the laptop version so I lack the experience to properly compare the two. I still prefer the web version on the phone compared to the app and feel like they are not the same because:
      1. Web version allows you to be really specific with your max miles filter, I can set it to be at 116 miles whereas the app just has a slider that goes from 50-100-150 miles. That specificity allows me to be a lot more proficient at booking loads.
      2. Web version has auto-refresh, app does not.
      You’ve got me curious now to look at it on a laptop. I have seen it in the past and it just reminded me of looking at it on an iPad because it just showed more loads in the field of view whereas the phone only shows 1.5 loads without scrolling.
      Even though the bobtail truck was legit and taught to me by “them”, it did always feel like I was gaming the system. Being up in Chino with 127 miles to go and saying “I shall end it here, you shall pay me the full amount, and I shall start looking for my next load HERE” was really cool, but always felt a little wrong. My best argument for keeping it would be that Amazon claims to be the environmentally conscious company, adhering to all of California’s strict clean air laws. Having someone drive an empty semi truck because you can is not environmentally friendly. In the end, I don’t care one way or the other, if driving the empty truck is how I make my money, that’s what I’m gonna do.

      @@STATTrucking That's what I meant. The Web version. I used to be able to get the web version on my phone and now it always defaults to the App version. Didn't know if there was a trick to it or not.

      I’ve had a few people comment on Relay Rates making fun of how many saved searches I have. This is exactly why I have them.
      I think I’ve got about 30 and all are very necessary.
      The second I leave San Diego, I have two running based on my destination. Say I’m heading up to Chino:
      1. Chino➡️San Diego
      2. Chino➡️Anywhere (with 100 miles max)
      It would be great if they provided you the information directly but they give you the tools to figure it out.

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  4 місяці тому

      Glad you like the content, thank you.
      So, when I throw 150 miles around Missoula right now, there are zero loads with the closest loads being 173 miles away in Spokane. When I hover on ver Spokane and search “Amazon warehouse” on google maps, I see a couple big facilities (GEG1/2) and a smaller facility (DSK4) with what looks like 7-8 dock doors.
      Because I have no first hand experience with the Spokane market, I could absolutely be wrong with what I’m about to say:
      I suspect the majority of loads coming out of there are more “OTR” and Amazon OTR does not pay that well in my opinion. The “money” with Amazon is made in these smaller trips “around town”. The furthest I go for them on a regular basis is 250 miles because their longer trips have consistently paid so little.
      If you compare Spokane to other cities where there are 10+ major facilities within a 50 mile radius, you will see there is a smaller chance of these “in-town” loads.
      The issue I have for working for Amazon for sub-standard pay is that their expectations are off the charts and it’s easier for me to live down to the expectations of other brokers for the same (or possibly better) money.
      Amazon is the only broker out there that will mark you down for being a minute late, only to let you in their yard and tell you the trailer won’t be ready for another 1.5 hours. Oh, and that minute late just affected your earning potential for the next six weeks.
      I don’t mind and am capable of delivering “perfection” for them, but I expect to be paid for this. I’m just unsure if a city with three sites is going to provide the reward you’d be looking for in return for having to meet their standard.
      I also never want to seem like I’m trying to sway people one way or the other, let me know what city you’re in and I’ll throw it into a short so you can see for yourself and don’t have my “filter” on it.

    Is your net annual income the same as when you were a pharmacist?
    I’m just wondering if one can still make decent money in a down market as an OO doing both Amazon and local work

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  4 місяці тому +3

      It’s slightly better, but here is where I absolutely feel like I’m “winning”
      As a pharmacist, I had to work five 8 hour days/week. Each of those days involved me getting up and ready for work about 1.5-2 hours before my shift, 45 minute drive to work, 45 minute drive home, spending time doing laundry for clothes I ONLY would wear to the pharmacist gig, etc. So to say 8 hours/day is not really honest, it turned into a 10.5-11 hour day and I would only get paid for 8 of them.
      With trucking, I can make my pharmacist (week) check in two days, giving me the choice of:
      “Do I want to take the next five days off and live like I’ve been living for the last 20 years or do I want to put in a little extra”
      Now, I don’t want to be accused of comparing apples to oranges, these “trucking days” are 16 hour days. I run the CA short haul exemption clock, but I’m back home within that 16 hour window because I have to be.
      Now, there’s a train of thought in trucking that unless the wheels are turning, you’re not making money. Because I knew nothing when I started, I subscribed to this at first, tried to book loads everyday. What I came to realize is that this is technically true however in a market like Southern California, there are probably 50-200 loads/week on DAT where shippers/brokers are put into a position where they HAVE to move it last minute and are willing to pay a lot to do this. If I’m out trying to make the truck move everyday I may be tied up doing something else and can not take advantage of these loads.
      What I subscribe to now is the "sit and wait" model. The truck may only run 3-4 days/week, but I try to impress these customers with service and great communication so that next time they need something "high priority" moved, they know who to call.
      I definitely don't want to make it sound like I've got "this trucking thing" down, talk to me in five years, but this is exactly what I've been doing for the past 2.5 year and so far it's worked.
      Amazon has been crap for the last six weeks and I've taken the opportunity to get to know some new brokers/shippers. I promise you I'm coming out of this stronger than I went into it.
      I was willing to do this "trucking thing" for less because I was so fed up with all the crap in pharmacy, the fact that it is slightly better has been an absolute blessing.
      👊🏻🍻

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  4 місяці тому +1

      So I have never done one but talked to many who have. On average they ask you to drive about 350 miles/day but occasionally I’ll come across people who run close to 1000 miles on a 37hr solo. Keep in mind ind with these, the less amount of miles they ask you to run, the better it is for your overall rate per mile.
      I’ve just always faired better with the load board and the thought of obligating myself to them for what could turn out to be sub $2/mi does not entice me to try it.
