I like the use of the foam for holding the bolts. i did a similar thing using thick cardboard on that F4A51 VB. yeah, very smart move on a complex item. Not something I'd normally think of doing, but a man has got to know his limitations, and i wasn't feeling lucky.
Thanks! The book I have is the factory service manual from GM for that exact transmission (and others) it has the whole rebuild procedure in it step by step, as well as more diagrams when you could ever want. I got mine at a website called "Faxon Auto Literature." But make sure you get the rebuild manual, not the "service manual."
it broke my heart to see all this hard work - then the use of a scotch bright pad - These pads release Aluminum oxide ~40 mircon which is the main cause of bearing and friction material damage in rebuilt items like engines and transmissions. I just learnt this. Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=563163

The pump rotor has a counter bore on one side. I can't tell which way it was in there. Is it counter bore up or down? What happens if it's in wrong?
Dave Reith I can't remember, this was very long ago. Refer to the factory service manual. That should have all the information you need.
I installed that tranny yesterday. Works like a champ! Thanks for the video and the advice again!
