I was lucky enough to witness this ASL's 10th season. After not following StarCraft for many years, I only stumbled upon it by chance on Liquipedia and it has been a blast. Amazing finals, a great group stage with entertaining games and moments (ogre zerg gamer!) made me remember why I fell in love with this game way back when I was still a little lad. Special shoutout to Artosis and Tasteless which for me are still the best esports casting duo, yes even scenes with high quality talent and production like Dota and League of Legends can't come close to these two. Here for hopefully many more seasons to come in the future.

I played Starcraft on the N64. With the expansion pack booster pack thing, so I had Brood War too. I used to play it head to head against some of my friends when we were young. The most wholesome experience of my life is when I won a base trade against him with a hidden expo. Think about it. Split screen in like 2001 on whatever little tv my mom got for me for my bedroom. He didnt look at my half of the screen. What an honest and true friend. Even when it meant losing to me. I have since lost contact with him as adults but I hope he is doing well.
I didn't have a chance to catch professional Starcraft since the Wings of Liberty days, but was subscribed to this channel somehow when they had to switch to broadcast on UA-cam. Since then, GSL and ASL with Tastosis have sincerely been personal highlights week after week during these challenging times and I will continue watching and supporting as long as you can bring these incredible E-Athletes to us. Thank you so much for bringing so much joy to the community and understanding what it means to the fans despite Activision/Blizzard higher-ups putting their masterpieces on life support. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Artosis and Tasteless are truly the best casting duo in all E-Sports. Thank you AfreecaTV for caring and making this all possible.

Of all the matchups in all the iterations of starcraft, the current meta in BW zvz is my least favorite, and yet thanks to tastosis, I had a blast watching this ASL finals!
AfreecaTV, thank you so much for the English cast of ASL, I’ve been watching GSL and ESL for StarCraft 2 for years without realizing the pro scene for StarCraft 1 was going strong if not STRONGER than StarCraft 2 in Korea! Having an absolute ball watching, the games are insane- can’t wait for season 11!
If not for tasteless and artosis, I wouldn't be as invested in ASL as I am (I've seen every game, all 10 seasons). they truly bring the perfect mix of humor, analysis, and play-by-play--hold onto them as long as there is a foreign scene (and there's a bunch of us in North and South America that still play and watch)
welp this tournament just gave some great backflip on any expectation. Flash expected to get rekt on random: Flash went to RO4 with Random Soma gonna rekt Flash hard on RO4: Nope the series was pretty competitive and flash won on a ZvZ with brilliant play while actually lost with his main race. Queen gonna steamroll Soma in grand finals: full 7 games wholesome series with Soma actually almost win. Also here's some of my thoughts about the last game. I think Queen throwing down the expo was actually make sense to a certain extend, strategically, because the early game right before muta would be the only time when you can really do that, and once the mutas got amassed, any expo thrown down would be very easily cancelled. Also once the expo is established your opponent would pretty much be on a ticking time bomb because if the game runs even for a really long time, you would have the access to the 3rd gas and the extra mineral and your opponent does not. And also the expo is more defendable than in a normal map cuz it's an island and airborne distance from the main to the expo is not that far. While that makes some sense strategically, it's really hard to actually execute that idea (as you can see, Queen got behind 2 upgrades and also on mutas doing that. And also he couldn't even throw down the extractor or made more drones cuz he needed all the larvas for the air arm race). So you can say that Queen made a really dangerous bet there, especially when it's the last game in the series. I think the moment when Soma started to lose the game was when he attacked into Queen's main base. While the casters thought it was Soma-favored cuz he sniped lots of scourge, I think it was actually even or even Queen-favored because during that Queen actually got 2 free volleys of Muta shots on Soma's mutas. And Soma's not opting for the carapace upgrade made that look even worse. What's also needed to be notice was that Queen's bases were closer to where the battle took place, so that he got quicker scourge reinforcement and as a results even when Soma sniped lots of scourges, he still got hit by a couple of them anyway and eventually lost the muta battle. I think Soma made a couple of micro mistakes in that attack eating those muta shot volleys, which should've been avoidable. Though, gotta make it clear I certainly got no harsh feeling on him, he did amazingly in that game and that series as a whole. Everyone makes mistakes, it's just that some points of time are just worse than others to make mistake at.
It still would have been winning for Soma if he had made a spore in his main instead of trying to expand. He was so far ahead in drones and upgrades that he was always going to win the long game as long as he didn't die to Queen's last-chance all-in. Although Queen had an extra base, Soma wasn't on a time bomb, as you put it, because Queen's economy was too weak to actually make use of his potential third gas. Soma misread the situation.

Soma's Mutalisks would have protected the drones while the spore protected the Mutalisks. As for the lings, yeah, Queen would have easily cleared them, but the damage was already done. I think making a spore on one base was really counter-intuitive though. That kind of winning move is easier to find when you're analysing a replay than when you're playing live. ^^
The best of this final was the casting, and do not take me wrong, the matches were good, people just can't deal with their ZvZ hate. I mean Tartosis can manage interruptions godlike style, the story of the guy who thought the N64 version was superior to PC, Queen tattooing a hatchery so he does remind himself of not being cocky, the ten billion dollars joke, the mustache jokes, the space microwave and Sandra Bullock in Gravity. Enjoyed every single second of the stream, this is entertainment, normal sports are overrated.
Awesome final and cast as per usual! Really looking forward to season 11. I wish there was a way to manipulate/hide the youtube video lenght somehow, I can't catch the games live and I don't want to get spoiled.

As someone who only knows how to play sc2, I'm glad I decided to watch this. Superb cast, Flash as random, a finals that came down to the last game... all in all, a fantastic tournament!
Great final - I was so tense watching that last match. Tastosis really just make these so enjoyable. I honestly don't mind at all when there is a issue in a match as it just means we get to hear the random Tastosis banter.
Artosis and Tasteless are always awesome to watch. They keep me glued to Starcraft instead of other e-sports. Well done as always. I really enjoyed this finals although I normally watch SC2. Have a great Off-Season you two.
Long time GSL watcher but news of Flash's random got me watching this season of ASL. Such good games all season, I'll definitely be tuning in for future ASLs!
I didn't get into watching SCI until recently but the commentary is great along with the performances and thanks to them and they're helpful explaining of things during casts I was even able to follow and understand this high-level play enough to enjoy it, and even enjoyed the finals mirror match-up of the race I like the least, haha. So I am quite grateful for the English casting and hope it continues so I can continue to watch ASL (and GSL too)!

2:03:02 Artosis has said this a lot about the air carapace upgrades in ZvZ, and it's not quite right. Assuming the enemy mutas don't have +3 attack, the first carapace upgrade reduces damage by 2.5, the second by 2, and the third by 1.5. That's because the minimum damage any attack in Starcraft can do is 0.5, not 0. So with no carapace, the mutas deal 9 to the primary target, 3 to the secondary target, and 1 to the tertiary target (9/3/1). Against 1 carapace, they deal 8/2/0.5; against 2, 7/1/0.5; and against 3, 6/0.5/0.5. He is pretty close, though.
Watching flash playing random was awesome this season. I just notice too late everytime that some tournament is going on. Usually it's already quarterfinals when it starts showing up in my youtube feed. Also great cast as always. There is no way I could understand what's going on without this ongoing high quality analysis.

Soma is still young and inexperienced. He's already got much better in a year; he'll probably be the best in the world in 2022.

What's also needed to be notice was that Queen's bases were closer to where the battle took place, so that he got quicker scourge reinforcement and as a results even when Soma sniped lots of scourges, he still got hit by a couple of them anyway and eventually lost the muta battle. I think Soma made a couple of micro mistakes in that attack eating those muta shot volleys, which should've been avoidable. Though, gotta make it clear I certainly got no harsh feeling on him, he did amazingly in that game and that series as a whole. Everyone makes mistakes, it's just that some points of time are just worse than others to make mistake at.
It still would have been winning for Soma if he had made a spore in his main instead of trying to expand. He was so far ahead in drones and upgrades that he was always going to win the long game as long as he didn't die to Queen's last-chance all-in. Although Queen had an extra base, Soma wasn't on a time bomb, as you put it, because Queen's economy was too weak to actually make use of his potential third gas. Soma misread the situation.

@@nguyentho6768 My apologies. You made a long and detailed comment. I was specifically answering the last paragraph where you analysed the moment when Soma lost the game. I agree with the earlier parts, so I didn't have anything to say about them. I'm saying Soma lost when he (Soma) tried to expand right before Queen's final strike; I wasn't talking about Queen's earlier decision to expand.
@@GrandBenja yeah you're right. Soma should've won that game nonetheless if he made a spore. Actually I'm not too sure on that, it'll be very close cuz still Queen can just as well kill all of Soma's air with though scourges and then kill all the drones even with the spore there. As for the lings he could send 2 mutas back to deal with them. I don't think soma's lings can kill all the structures in time. But yeah the game should've been much closer.
@@nguyentho6768 I don't think Queen would have been able to finish off Soma's remaining air force on top of a spore colony. He wasn't that far ahead in Mutalisk count. Soma's Mutalisks would have protected the drones while the spore protected the Mutalisks. As for the lings, yeah, Queen would have easily cleared them, but the damage was already done.
I think making a spore on one base was really counter-intuitive though. That kind of winning move is easier to find when you're analysing a replay than when you're playing live. ^^
Watched it again years later and this is still awesome.
The best of this final was the casting, and do not take me wrong, the matches were good, people just can't deal with their ZvZ hate. I mean Tartosis can manage interruptions godlike style, the story of the guy who thought the N64 version was superior to PC, Queen tattooing a hatchery so he does remind himself of not being cocky, the ten billion dollars joke, the mustache jokes, the space microwave and Sandra Bullock in Gravity.
Enjoyed every single second of the stream, this is entertainment, normal sports are overrated.
I never watched asl at all but enjoyed it so much this season with tastosis casting. Please continue this effort.

Superb cast, Flash as random, a finals that came down to the last game... all in all, a fantastic tournament!
Great final - I was so tense watching that last match. Tastosis really just make these so enjoyable. I honestly don't mind at all when there is a issue in a match as it just means we get to hear the random Tastosis banter.
Artosis and Tasteless are always awesome to watch. They keep me glued to Starcraft instead of other e-sports. Well done as always. I really enjoyed this finals although I normally watch SC2. Have a great Off-Season you two.

Long time GSL watcher but news of Flash's random got me watching this season of ASL. Such good games all season, I'll definitely be tuning in for future ASLs!

I didn't get into watching SCI until recently but the commentary is great along with the performances and thanks to them and they're helpful explaining of things during casts I was even able to follow and understand this high-level play enough to enjoy it, and even enjoyed the finals mirror match-up of the race I like the least, haha. So I am quite grateful for the English casting and hope it continues so I can continue to watch ASL (and GSL too)!
(One little personal complaint though, the joke about cancer was kinda insensitive and not funny imo)

2:03:02 Artosis has said this a lot about the air carapace upgrades in ZvZ, and it's not quite right. Assuming the enemy mutas don't have +3 attack, the first carapace upgrade reduces damage by 2.5, the second by 2, and the third by 1.5. That's because the minimum damage any attack in Starcraft can do is 0.5, not 0. So with no carapace, the mutas deal 9 to the primary target, 3 to the secondary target, and 1 to the tertiary target (9/3/1). Against 1 carapace, they deal 8/2/0.5; against 2, 7/1/0.5; and against 3, 6/0.5/0.5.
He is pretty close, though.
