Lahmian medium is different to Contrast medium, Its for re-hydrating paints that get too thick, but yeah it works similar to contrast medium, just a bit better for glazing.
How to paint your mini's white? 1. Select another color. 2. See rule 1. 3. Work with great colors around 'the zone' where you want white. Work with 2 thin layers of white + an icy blue (lightest blue you got). Then aply 3 layers of white. Still be disapointed in the white and question yourselve why, once more, you skipped steps 1. and 2. Great video btw
I'm doing white scars as my very first army. It has been a very fun kind of pain trying different methods of white. Favorite recently is zenithal with a white wash made from super thinned down apple barrel white and a bit of lamian medium. Works pretty well
Lamian medium is pretty expensive across a whole army, so you might want to give making some at home a try, bunch of tutorials here on youtube for it :)
For my Sacred Rose Sisters, I essentially use the 2nd method. Although instead of nuln oil, I use gw apothecary white. Works greats and not as harsh as the black of nuln oil.
Now I don’t know you opinions on what the Ahsoka series but taking some of those Storm Troopers and converting into the Thrawn exile troopers would be a hazing and fun to play
This video dropped at the perfect time! Just as I started my Order of the Sacred Rose sisters. Thanks for the tips! I will definitely put some into practice.
I think I like the commandos the best overall but I like the dry brush tech if you are going for a grimy white since that texture adds a nice grit to it.
Hey Eons, Keep up the great videos! you're one of the main people who helped me get into miniatures and I'm loving them! thank you so much for showing me something new that I really enjoy!
You are the Bob Ross or mini painting. Super welcoming and enjoyable to watch. Also yes please paint Stormtroopers that would be fun. Different squad markings would be cool.
I am new to your channel. I found it as I started into the mini-painting hobby just earlier this year. Seeing the many techniques you use has really helped me see the spectrum and limitless possibilities in the world of mini-painting. I confess, I have never played WH40K; I know what it is, but only through people mentioning it here or there (like Henry Cavill in interviews), but have picked up a bunch anyway to practice paining. Likely I won't play since I don't know anyone who does, but since I played the heck out of Star Craft when I was younger, the Space Marine look was just too nostalgic to pass up. On that very long note, my first and primary love in the universe of stories is Star Wars. Can't get enough of it, love everything about it. I would LOVE to see you paint more Star Wars Legion stuff, especially Storm Troopers since they are so plain. I can see the use of various colors for legions of Clone Troopers, but I'm curious to see how you add your creative flair to Storm Troopers. Again, love the channel, keep it up!
It's Gregor a character you don't know. It's a little bit hard to tell from first glance of the mini, but scorch has grey accents to their armour even I didn't know who he was.(I've played the entire republic commando
How many Stormtroopers do you need? Yes! Funny, we played a Star Wars Roleplaying Game a few Years ago - and we found out, that the Armor of Stormtroopers is pretty Badass. Night Vision, Target Aid, could take a good hit from a Blaster - not like in the Movies. Two Stormtroopers gave our party a hell of a fight. :)
My favourite was the clones, because of its simplicity and good results. I will apply that technique for my Imperial Assault Storm Troopers. Thanks Jay!
@11:17 YES!! HAA (Hobby Acquisition Amnesia) is a real thing! I once went digging through a reason bag of hobby stuff and found a second bottle of Snakebite Leather contrast paint I'd totally forgotten about. And then a third... And a third pair of snippers. And then two extra Kanren Hackers for Infinity. Sigh...
I’m new to the hobby and have started a white scars army. I prime grey seer and zenithal white scar. I then use white scar layer paint to adjust brightness before gloss varnishing and pin washing with Tamiya Black panel liner. Tidy up any spillage and that’s how I do mine however I think they lack contrast. I’d like to try the clone method on my marines new to as it seems to nail contrast whilst remaining white. I also want to get better at painting so will definitely do the typical layer and glazing on my hero characters. I’d like to see you do some of the storm troopers like the commandos to see what they look like as a large unit
Wow.. that White Scar looks amazing! I’d love to see a series where u show us how you would paint Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, Salamanders etc.. that would be so cool!!
They all look good, but I like the Clones the best. The fresh cuts in the rocks of the General's base is REALLY good, I'll have to try that on something some time soon. The Marien's armor is just too blue. And I would love to see the whole Stormtrooper set done, please!!! Want to see how you do a full army paint, especially in white.
I’ve started painting Stormtroopers with a makeup sponge, priming in gray then dabbing on lighter and lighter coats until I reach a pure white highlight. Works super quick and has great results.
Adding these recipes to the list for the test minis I'm going to do after Christmas, the thinned Nuln Oil works surprisingly well. Invested in a solid airbrush too - not going to attempt a white army without one!
I paint my Iron Hand's gun casings and captain/lieutenant helmets using your Fallout colouring scheme from Mechanicus Standard grey, Dawnstone, Administratum Grey and white over a black primer. Looks really good and grimdark.
For my blood angels army, I primed everything in citadel rattle can leadbelcher, and then went blood angel red contrast over the armor, except for the Apothecary. He had to stand out, so his base coat is Apothecary White over leadbelcher. Wow, so simple and easy for white metal… then just carefully paint accents, boom done! Loved the video, definitely do all your stormtroopers as a time challenge! Maybe it will inspire me to paint mine! (I’m currently distracted finally kit bashing my two boxes of indomitus space marines (finally) as Bringers Of Death Chaos Space Marines! A project I’ve been wanting to do since indomitus came out haha!
I just painted my Apothecary Biologis and for him I based in back, but instead of drybrushing up through greys to white I sponged the paint on. It added a really nice subtle texture and left some good deep shadows for that grimdark look.
Painting white has been a real challenge for me, I have a pre-heresy Luna Wolves army and (with some helpful pointers from the guys via Patreon) I've found my formula. Dark gray base, white zenithal, then a 4:1 speedpaint white and black to give the shadows some definition, then a drybrush of Pro Acryl's bright warm gray. I'm going for a very matte, desaturated look like they have on the covers of those first few Horus Heresy books. I've been leaning pretty heavily on black speedpaint for the shoulders and details.
I love this video, thank you so much! Painting in white primarily seems like it requires a unique approach and you showed us so many ways that seem very doable based on your excellent examples.
For my marines, I prime w/white primer, base w/white paint in two thin coats on what I want white. Base everything else in grey and paint those sections. I go back to the white with w/2 more thin coats of a very subtle cream color mix. Correct spillage. Nuln oil wash/or very thin black paint to finish because I don’t have any varnishes for afterwards lol
I play White Scars and it has taken me forever to get them looking nice. I've found that doing a light gray primer and then dry brush white over the top of that. I then do a black wash to shade the recesses of the model. I find that this mix shows that the armor is clearly white but shows off more detail on the models and gives them a bit of a battle worn look that I love
Just got a box of stuff I purchased off Amazon during the Black Friday sales. I bought Marvel Zombies Zombicide which looks awesome. And I also picked up some paints and hobby supplies that I’m going to review and use on my UA-cam channel that I’m just starting up. It will be a channel about budget hobby diy hints, tips and reviews, as well as tutorials and tabletop games. Got some really great deals. Got a dry brush set for only $15 AU. A Sable brush set for $25 AU. A set of 36 Hobby paints for $35 AU. A set of 36 paint pens for $25 AU. A set of 5 clippers for $15 AU. And finally a knockabout airbrush for $30 AU which was surprisingly very good. More features than most mid priced products. Can’t wait to start painting those Marvel Zombies miniatures.
More Legion content, please. Bring on the Stormtrooper marathon! Nice looking Boss and Scorch minis, those Shatterpoint minis look awesome, and Grievous too.
Of Course you should paint an obscene amount of stormtroopers. I like the way the Clones turned out. Mostly because they were at least 95% as good as the other models with 50% of the effort.
I'm probably gonna use a technique somewhat similar to the 3 method as I want to paint up some white armor in an easy and somewhat quick without needing to use contrast paints, mainly gonna use a combination of stippling and drybrushing
This video is awesome! I'm a massive delta squad fan, thank you for repping Boss and Gregor for those of us too poor to get into another star wars minis game!
Clicked just for General Grevous in the thumbnail. Easily my favorite Star Wars Villain. May grab the Star Wars starter kit just to paint him and some Droids... And play Some Star Wars I guess
Perfect timing to see this as I just abandoned my Carcharadons army at the painting table for the night. I felt dejected about how bland they looked (Almost like the I'd just painted features on to the base sprue, not enough contrast from my armor highlights) I could adopt some of the technique from the White Scar and just not go quite as white. Feeling pumped to get back to the hobby table tomorrow and try it out.
Personally I do it entirely with my airbrush. Depending on the color of the base, I will mix either some cold blue, brown or tan in some ivory, spray over everything, mix more ivory to spray at about 45 degrees, pure ivory at about 10, then pure white completely up top. I paint the undersuit and details with black templar contrast afterwards.
I have started to do the zenithal then do an ink wash after a gloss varnish to really keep the white but get the really nice black lining all over. Sort of similar to the White Scar.
I did a test for the HH World Eaters colors I want to use on my 40K army. I used Brainmatter beige as the base and love it. Pure white looks great as a highlight on it.
I painted my first army white. I’ve learned so much in the years since. I want to go back and re-do it. The trick is to not actually use white except for the highest highlights
Sergeant RC-1138 ‘Boss’ and then Gregor of the 212th Attack Battalion. Seeing you paint those two makes me want to get into Shatterpoint and paint up some Republic Commandos, even though even if I found a person to play with I would always lose just like my Black Templars in 40k.
This was awesome! Would love to see a video like this on black. Bow that I have painted all my white army imperials for legion, i’m having trouble getting started on Vader and my black armored guys. There’s just so many options!
The orange armor is Boss. Is the other Scorch? I thought his armor had some grey at the shoulders. My second thought was Gregor, but Gregor has the same pattern as Boss but in yellow.
Awesome Boss and I assume Captain Gregor but without all his tally marks. I’m trying to keep myself from buying any legions cuz as a die hard Star Wars fan I’d end up buying every model for every faction and I do NOT have the financial freedom for that lol, but those commando paint jobs are really pushing me towards it Edit: I realize the yellow Commando is supposed to be Scorch now, but he’s missing all his grey which just makes him look like tally-less Gregor. Also should definitely do the stormtrooper video
I know someone probably already stated their names but boss and scorch were 2 members of the commando unit you play as in the game, boss being.. self explanatory, but scorch is by far my favorite as he embodied the young boy that every clone was at the beginning
Gotta have 4 squads of stormtroopers to have a platoon! I also painted the stormtrooper captain and specialist minis to be my platoon leader/platoon sergeant.
I started getting into 40k recently, and have been working on doing space Marines, been going with an off white/orange scheme. Got asked if I was painting white scars by 3 different people at the flgs, but wasn't aware of the white scars when I picked the scheme lol
We need that video of you painting stormtroopers. Would be interesting if you took a normal squad of stormtroopers and turned them into shadowtroopers.
If I try a Sacred Rose Kill Team I think I'll go for my white pearlescent paint with pylar glacier shading on the metal and Army Painter white speed paint on the fabric of the bodice.
Uggggggh, I'm like halfway through painting my lance of white Battletech mechs... And now I might have to start over. What I have right now is ok, but I'm not thrilled with them. The problems I have with white paint are: Poor and uneven coverage, but the paint still looks thick and gloopy on the model. I can see my brush strokes in the paint, which makes it look scratchy. The paint is already pretty thin, but with the above problems it feels like a little thinning might help. But if I thin the paint at all, I get tons of bubbles- especially in the crevices. I may go back and try the Clone Trooper method in this video. I did a tester model with nuln oil, but I didn't thin it and the wash was too dark. I do like the look of those clone troopers.

Lahmian medium is different to Contrast medium, Its for re-hydrating paints that get too thick, but yeah it works similar to contrast medium, just a bit better for glazing.
What orange did you use on that clone commander? It really pops off the white and I wanted something like that for my homebrew space marines.
Stormtrooper in 24hrs challenge thanks. The blinding white light shall keep you awake!
Blinded by the white, revved up like a troop, painting minis in the night
I have an imperial army for legion and I had to paint sooooo many white armor troopers
Gregor and Boss came out great!
How to paint your mini's white?

Great video btw
For the apothecaries in my flesh tearer, I use white prime with thinned pallid bone to wash it. It comes out pretty great
I'm doing white scars as my very first army.
@AshleyBlackwater I only use like 10 drops from a pipette. The diluting is mostly water. Makes a couple ounces total. Lasts quite a while actually

I just finished assembling a ton of Legion and Shatterpoint clone troopers. This video was the right video at the right time. Love it, thanks!
This video dropped at the perfect time! Just as I started my Order of the Sacred Rose sisters.

Thank you for the clone commando game reference❤ 5:14
Adding these recipes to the list for the test minis I'm going to do after Christmas, the thinned Nuln Oil works surprisingly well. Invested in a solid airbrush too - not going to attempt a white army without one!
Dude I loved that white scar! Inspiration has been created by thou
5:25 is it boss and Gregor? Gregor is hard to tell with out the talley marks (was it supposed to be scortch? Cause he had gray armor parts too)
Another method is white + Payne's grey oil wash (on the heavy side), removing the highest points while wet & whatever you want when dry
I paint my Iron Hand's gun casings and captain/lieutenant helmets using your Fallout colouring scheme from Mechanicus Standard grey, Dawnstone, Administratum Grey and white over a black primer. Looks really good and grimdark.

It could be scorch but he’s missing all the grey on his armor rn I think he looks more like Gregor
Gregor wasn't In Delta Squad, from the Republic Commando Games, which Jay mention they are from. @@SloppokeymaX
@@peterosullivan2669 yeah I saw that at the end of the vid he definitely should add that grey in though

That's a lot of stormtroopers. Frankly a silly amount. Fantastic
Hey @EonsOfBattle! Loving the Star Wars painting content! My vote is yes stormtrooper painting Legion or Shatterpoint!

The clone style is the best. Its fast and looks clean which is what I go for. is there a bluish shade you would recommend for a cool-white?
Love the republic commando game style commandos. Scorch and the squad leader looking sharp (:
I did a test for the HH World Eaters colors I want to use on my 40K army. I used Brainmatter beige as the base and love it. Pure white looks great as a highlight on it.
It's amazing to me how much hard work you put into each video I can only say bravo!
I'm glad I found this video! I'm about to start working on some white and black thousand sons
White Colour being so bright, it even overshines the intro.
Great video, love the extra tips in between the different white method.
I painted my first army white. I’ve learned so much in the years since. I want to go back and re-do it. The trick is to not actually use white except for the highest highlights
Love the transition at the beginning it's like you sat down into the video

can you do a video on the new jump intersessors? with you sky unit half white armor look on your black templar
Eyy it's Boss and Gregor! Can't really fault you for not painting his camo but it would be fun to see you try ;)
YES PLEASE !!! more stormtrooper painting videos.
Found you on accident. Staying because you are awesome. Now to binge your Playlist. Keep up the amazing work
Love this video. Really appreciate the different techniques. I would love to see a similar video with yellow.
I like the white as done on the Clone Troopers best.
