    This dodgy cap was consuming all the current that chip could provide on that rail that's why the voltage was very low there. Sorin's way is great man.

    I repaired a laptop myself, I plugged in charger and checked where is the heat. I felt a sharp sting in my hand, it was a little capacitor that would instantly heat when plugged in. I removed it and magically my laptop booted on and worked.

    • @gorjy9610
      @gorjy9610 4 місяці тому

      Cap can't provide path (except for AC voltages). Is there to stabilize chip. I would replace it but whatever it supplying have most likely additional caps next to it so it's not really necessary, with big planes used in laptop boards resistance is most likely negligible anyway.

    • @zippythechicken

      @@zippythechickenYes, well that's AC
      Laptops use DC coming from a switch mode power supply. Any capacitor connected between a power rail and ground is probably there to "bypass" the AC to ground. There's usually more than one capacitor in parallel doing that so you don't necessarily need to replace the capacitor you removed
