I made one with moon and star granny squares! Love it! Thank you for making this available for free
I’ll definitely be making my own. I’d like to see a book sleeve for thicker books. Like HOEAB or Dunes.
Maybe larger hook with heavier yarn to increase the size of the squares? I'd think adding about 1" should be sufficient 🤷♀️
@@ediebegonia I'm currently making one for my paperback ACOMAF. Its a pretty thick book, but you can just continue to add rows until it is big enough to encase the book. :)
you could also add rounds to your granny squares!! add a round with some puff stitches in there for some extra space :) just an idea!
Such a fun project! I'm new to granny squares and your instructions were super easy to follow. My book sleeve turned out great. I used (from the inside out) turquoise, light pink, orange, light yellow and turquoise again for the center. Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial!
FANTASTIC OMG I LOVE THIS!!!!!
Your explanation of the how to and where to is perfect!!!! THANK YOU ❤❤❤ YOU MAKE AN ABSOLUTE FANTASTIC TEACHER!!!!☺️☺️☺️
You are so welcome! 🥰
Successfully made my own book sleeve with these clear and easy-to-follow instructions, even as a total beginner! ☺ Thank you so much for sharing - and I'm gonna be so annoying and show everyone I know my new book sleeve!! 😅
i am new to doing granny squares..
With your video it helped me understand how to make them..
Thank you so much..
Hi!! I'm laughing so hard. I was watching this and I told my friend I was making crochet book sleeves specifically for Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom and I just watched you break out Six of Crows, oh God 🤣 Really awesome video!!
I just finished my project, and you are the first person to successfully teach me to whip stitch on camera (one side may be on the wrong side for me hehe first time things). I’m brand new to crochet and this is my first big thing so thank you!!! My obsession with granny squares grows stronger especially since learning me how versatile they are. I hope your day is good because you made mine so much better with this video. :)
Love this! I thought i was the only person who does that method of joining new yarn. As a newbie crocheter it's nice to know im not alone lol. I will be trying this❤
Thanks so much for this, I made a book sleeve with sunflower granny squares ❤😊
I made one for a friend. Her favorite colors are red, yellow, and green. So I made the granny square like a flower wit yellow in the middle and red around the yellow. Then I did a lighter green and then a darker green. It turned out really pretty! So easy!
Mine did not turn out quite as good as yours but I improvised a lot to customize it and I'm so happy with it ! Great tutorial
I made one last night in colors cream, yellow, mustard, and black. Just using yarn from my stash instead of buying more. I'm making another one in two different shades of pink (can't remember the names), glacier, and a dark green (also don't know the name). It's so fun and easy to make. Thanks for the tutorial!
I have tried to follow so many granny square tutorials but this is the only video that makes sense!! Such a great video and I just finished the book sleeve for my mum for Mother’s Day!! Thank youuuuuu
You are so welcome! 🥰
Loved making this, a little big rough around the edges as first time maker of anything like this but very pleased with it. i'm a left handed crocheter as well but didn't find it overly difficult to follow.
Absolutely the best tutorial I've ever watched! My granny squares always looked pretty off, but with this tutorial, they looked sooo good. I finished the book sleeve in one day, and I'm sooo proud. Definitely very good for beginners.
That’s so good to hear ✨
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I made one for my little sister as a birthday gift. Kisses from 🇧🇷
I love this video! It’s so easy and easy to follow! Thankyou 😊
this was so awesome, thank you !! just used a whole bunch of scrap yarn to throw it together: pink, lavender, dark green, brown, turquoise, neon orange, light green, and purple :) it looks so fun
I just finished my first one in pink and White and it ended up stunning!!!❤❤❤ And The book I am currently reading fits perfectly😍😍😍
Awesome directions!! I going to make 1 in shades of pink for a friend 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷

I used periwinkle and ivory since periwinkle is my daughter-in-law’s favorite color😊 thank you so much for this tutorial as it was fun to make and now I’m making one for my granddaughter
Hers will be periwinkle, pink and ivory
This has been one of the most fun project I've done! I learned quite a few things along the way. Now I'm gonna make book covers for all my ACOTAR books as I go along reading them! Eeeeeee :)
Thank you SO much for such a beautiful pattern. You got me my crochet mojo back!
I do have a question I did not Ask earlier though… If you want to make one Of these for a thicker book do you add more granny squares or do you make a thicker border..?
I guess it depends on how thick the book is! These have a bit of stretch since I use acrylic yarn, and even after blocking it still does stretch! But you can always modify this by making bigger squares or adding a thicker border, or even changing it up and adding granny squares as the border to add some width to it! I hope that makes sense!! Lol
I have some sketches of plans for a bag that includes this so once I get that into motion and put out, you could always use that method!
I made it in black and white!!! And it looks so awesome I did do a different granny square though
Hi! Could anyone tell me the size of one Granny square, please? I‘m using a different yarn. Thank you! :)
My squares typically turn out to be 5 inches! Hope that helps!!
Wow, thank you sooo much for the quick answer!!! ❤ So if I understand correctly, it‘s 5x5 inches, not diagonally measured, right?
@@Kathi170787 yes! 5x5 :)
@@AshtenStitchesDanke, danke, danke!!!! ❤
I've been looking for a tutorial like this for so long! omg thank you sm!!
This was an amazing tutorial! Your instructions were so good and my book sleeve came out amazing. I used colors (from inside out) white, lavender, sage green, grey and then ended with white again! Want to make one for my best friend for her birthday and experiment with different sizes. Overall I am very pleased with how it came out for my first time ever doing granny squares! Thank you so much for making this available ❤
thanks so much! made this for a friends birthday :)
This was such a great tutorial!!! idk where I went wrong bc mine came out looking the same just much smaller😭
It can be because of tension!! Idr if I mentioned it, but my squares were about 5 inches each!
@@AshtenStitches thanks so much!! Im def gonna use your tutorial & try again!!
I envision this in shades of purple and ecru.
My hands shake and I'd have trouble feeding the tie through the flap on a regular basis. I was wondering if adding a button on the flap and another on the front of the sleeve for winding the tie in a figure eight would work instead.
Oh absolutely!! I even thought about those magnetic button clasps being a great option!
A magnetic snap would be even better!
Vou fazer para dar de presente para uma amiga querida!!!Agradeço...🙏🙏🙏
Mine came out way too small! 😭 I don’t know how it happend, maybe my yarn was thinner? I think I will make extra borders or something 🥲
Yarn can be the reason and also tension can cause that! I have a tighter tension! But I used a weight 4 acrylic yarn, but you can use any yarn as long as you get your squares to around 5 inches!
What brand crochet hook did you use ? Please
I always link what I’m using (or closest to) in the description 💙
I was peacefully following along until you pulled up SOC, I lost my shit. Its my favorite book! 😭
Also thank you for the tutorial, i loved it!
Such a great book!! 🥹
Thank you so much for the tutorial!! I was looking for a video like this!!!
Thanks for the amazing tutorial!! I just finished one for my little sister´s birthday! (i was planning on just a book for her, but this makes all so much better)! She´s a literatura teacher, so she´ll love it (and she have been asking me to make one for a while)
I love this pattern, I made another book cover, but I think I’m going to make this one now, thanks for sharing
Did you block it just with steam from an iron?
I used a steamer but the steam from an iron is the same, so yes! I have also done wet blocking for these and it worked well, but I prefer steam blocking :)
Such a great video! Really simple to follow and I was able to make a lovely book sleeve. Will definitely be experimenting with sizes and colours!
can you please make a video on how you block it?
I’ll add that to my list! I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested but I can definitely do that :)
@@AshtenStitches.. I'm interested too..
Made a book sleeve today 😍😍 great tutorial
Hello! new subscriber here
I would love to know the colors you used for the booksleeve.
If you don’t mind sharing the colors you used for this masterpiece? 😊🎀
They’re all I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby! As for colors, I don’t remember the exact names but there’s a Forest Green, Ivory, either Mid Green or Sage, and maybe Glacier?? Hope that helps!
@@AshtenStitches Thank you so much I really appreciate this! I love the way you explain things it makes it easier to understand! You seem so sweet have a nice day! 🎀
Great pattern. Thank u for sharing ❤
How many grams of yarn ?
I want to know how to make my project loose. I just made it but it was kind of tight not loose and flexible like yours. What could be the problem?
Tension is probably the issue! Try going up a hook size and see if that helps :) basically my squares were 5 inches so as long as you get there, it should be good!
If i make more grammy squares, can this be a laptop sleeve?
Definitely! You can customize this however you need :)
Would love to see a blocking tutorial if one was ever made!
There’s one on my channel now :)
Great video. Thanks. Did you make a video on how to block plz?
I'm actually getting ready to film that today! Will be out soon!
Do you have a video on how to do a solid color granny square?
I don’t! But I will add that to my list and get one out for you guys :)
i made my own with 4 weight acrylic yarn and a 5.5 mm hook and it’s too big for a book 😭 anyone know what i could do with it?
Could always use it as a laptop/tablet holder or even turn it into a bag :)
add a strap to make it into a bag!

Thankyou sm!!💕
Good idea thankyou
does this still work if my squares measure to be about 4.5 inches? just wondering if it’s too small or not 🫣
You can always lay out your squares over the book! I’ve seen some people do 4.5 inches, I just prefer a little bigger!!
can we block the squares before putting the border? or is it better to block it once they’re all connected?
You can definitely do that! I prefer doing it once they’re all sewn together and I’ve added the border so it can all block together, but you can block whenever you’d like!
@@AshtenStitches okay thank you so much for taking the time to respond! i appreciate it 🫶🏼
If I i am using one color do I need to cut and do opposite corners or just keep going?
You should be fine to just keep going! To avoid your square doing that weird spiral thing, I’d suggest chaining up and then turning for each round!
@@AshtenStitches Thank you.
Very difficult to follow
Hi! I am currently making this pattern and was wondering what the measurements of each square are supposed to be? Mine seems large even with just five rounds
Mine tend to be around 5 inches or so!! We might have different tensions so if yours seem too big, go down a hook size and see if that helps!!
@@AshtenStitches thank you so much! I just took out the 5th row and 4 rows is a good 5 inches both ways! I'm about to watch the putting together part!
