HI EVERYONE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE KIND WORDS REGARDING MY COVER OF DOLORES SONG. THE MUSICIANS ON THE RECORDING ARE NIT ACTUALLY IN THE BAND AMD SHOULD BE NOTED - MY FRIEND & Swedish producer PHILIP NASILUND played all guitars bass & piano on this song. JOSEPH MCQUEEN DID THE DRUMS. I LEFT BAD WOLVES in 2021 and have released 4 albums since on my UA-cam page if you want to see more of my work. Thank you everyone for supporting this song and helping me donate the proceeds to dolores children
Is your newer work similar to Disobey or Nation? I feel like Bad Wolves lost out on their personality all over standing your ground on an opinion that should never have been argued against.
And now for the truth. Tommy was kicked out of BW because of his constant drama. He's a big fan of Trump and has a huge victim complex. He tried to sue their manager and lost. He set up a GoFundMe that was shut down because it was fraudulent. Vext is an absolute clown of the highest order. His live vocals were shocking when I saw the band; I was shocked how different it was to on record, the amount of pitch correction needed. He's now sunk back into obscurity where he belongs.
I highly recommend Remember When by Bad Wolves..It's one of my favorites and a song written when Tommy was attacked and nearly killed by his twin brother who wanted money for drugs. It's heartbreaking and very emotionally delivered
I was glad you noticed the lyric change. That's what makes the style change hit so hard. Delores had this sad haunting vibe that was mournful of the death and destruction. This version is filled with more pain and anger that it's STILL happening around the world. They changed "same old theme since 1916" to "same old theme in 2018" and they changed the weapon order from "tanks, bombs, bombs guns" to "tanks, bombs, guns, drones". This is my first Bad Wolves song. My sister is a huge fan of theirs and I'm a huge fan of the Cranberries. One day one of us got the song stuck in our heads and we ended up humming it together and we couldn't figure out how each other knew the song. So she introduced me to this and I introduced her to Delores, which helped her understand the video.
The first time I heard this, the change from 1916 to 2018 and the addition of "drones" really hit me because 100 years later here we still are, killing each other. It reminded me of The Green Fields of France with "Did they really believe that this war would end wars?"
Yeah I love what they changed lyrically but for me the tone is generic. In her voice you can feel the anger and the bitterness. But for me he is too polished. Funny that I like it and it irks me at the same time. And obviously that's just how I find it, clearly others find it the other way.
@@rrw_au9584 this would have been absolutely amazing with their sound and her voice. I was glad that that was the original plan. Someone did a thing that spliced this with the cranberries version to give us an idea and it's beautiful
@@KaitLynnHt Seriously? Is there a mashup? I would love to hear it. Dolores' talents are still being spoken of and used by vocal coaches and teachers around our world. The keening, the pops, etc.. And the hard rock vibe she could have worked with here.... Jeeze. Our world needs recognition of genuine artists in their time. We need to save ourselves from all the sh*t she was protesting.
I love this version, there's so much pain in their voices... and it always gives me chills how it went from "since 1916" to "in 2018" and the only thing that changed is that there are drones now, yet the violence continues, it speaks volume about humankind. It's a marvellous tribute
Exactly. The use of "in 2018" and also the inclusion of drones in the bridge make me think of "Why TF is this still an issue with humans? Why are we still doing this?" And the use of the hard beat for the chorus inhabits that rage.
It's not really humankind but just certain humans. The reason we still have war is because certain people, those who bribe our corrupt leaders, get rich selling weapons to both sides in war. If normal people had the courage to drive those people out of.power and listened to their better natures we'd have peace.
Like considering the lyrics/imagery of the original “Land of Confusion” by Genesis (video included) with Disturbed’s rendition nearly 20 years later. One could easily bring it forward to today, another 18 years since 10k Fists. Or backwards, to any era of history you so choose. Some themes are timeless, because the forces driving them in the human condition are also timeless and enduring. It’s both sad and sobering at the very least. Ecclesiastes 8:9
Dolores herself told the band how much she loved this cover and she was so excited to sing on it with them, and she was supposed to, the same day she died. Tommy Vext and the band had asked Dolores’ mother Eileen for permission to release the video because after they found out Dolores died they debated not to, but went on to do it with Eileen’s blessing and for Dolores’ honor and memory. Their music video even shows the lady in gold to represent Dolores. And they even had her write on the mirror the day Dolores died. It was so tragic. Dolores was so excited to sing on this, that’s why her death is still speculated to this day. There are people who don’t believe it was an accident and there are people who believe she did it on purpose. I know she’s looking down on this seeing that the band donated all proceeds from this to Dolores’ children, she’d be so happy. Can definitely feel her always ❤
@@ikmor ? Dolores died on Jan 15, this song was released on Jan 18? There were articles saying it was four DAYS, not hours, that quoted the cranberries. And this video came out a month after that.
This cover always makes me want to cry. It's so hurt and mournful and such a beautifully done ode to Dolores, may her soul know peace. The minor lyric changes hit hard, showing how those fighting may change, those crying may change, those dying may change, but the reasons stay the same and it is truly heartbreaking that we still have not learned from the past.
I love this song so much and put it right up there with Disturbed's Sound of Silence. Both originals are sad warnings of tragedy and the covers express the rage that the tragedy is ongoing. If you can bear the heartache I would also recommend Five Finger Death Punch's cover of Gone Away by The Offspring as I put it in the same category. Watching both as a double feature to compare the two versions would be incredible!
The original of this was actually about the Irish actively fighting. It wasn't a warning that they would fight it was a story about what had already been going on. How people were afraid of and even scared of the Irish. "You see it's not me it's not my family" is expressing that not everyone is bad, not everyone wants to fight, most want peace back and are peaceful. The kids who died in the song actually died, "another head hangs lowly, child is slowly taken" was about a boy who was killed but he was injured first and died slowly in a hospital... The year she gives us the year the wars and then unrest began and she was crying out that it needed to end that they were better than this killing....
I never really appreciated this song or Dolores singing style until I moved (ironically) to Warrington; the town were the bombings that brought about this song, the whole thing hits different. I can only compare it to reading about an event (Hiroshima) and then actually going to the place (Hiroshima again but also Warrington Town Centre), things just hit different after that. As for lyrical changes they changed "tanks, bombs, bombs guns" to "tanks, bombs, bombs , drones" - I initially expected tanks, bombs, *guns*, drones; to cover 4 instruments of destruction, as well as 1918 to 2018 that you picked up on.
I watched this cover reaction directly after watching The Cranberries' original reaction. I must say, what absolutely struck me so hard was where Delores' delivery was quiet and haunting with a controlled undertone of rage, this version comes in like "did you really not hear us, we'll say it louder for those in the back" in terms of delivery on the original message. Particularly with the addition of drones and the change to 2018 in the lyrics. The layers of the voice on that final chorus she's talking about to me are reminscient of shrapnel. Like they are just tearing at anything they can rip through. It's so explosive. That "sweeping" near the end to me sounds like a synthed clip of Delores woven into the mix. But it also sort sounds like when you are rubbing against glass. Like she still wishes to be heard from the other side. I love both versions of this song so much. It's heartwrenching that these lyrics are still being lived out by so many around the world, even here as we near 2024. The capacity for violence within humans is so immense... but so is the capacity for love and kindness. Choose the later. Always.
The sweeping sound is actually just a effect, called a "flanger", layered on the lead guitar. Flangers were popular in the 80s back when digital manipulation of music was just coming about. It's the same effect used on Queen's "Killer Queen" when Freddie sing's "dynamite with the laser beam", to give that lyrics a futuristic splash. I do think it was used in conjunction with the imagery here in the video, where the model (who I presume to be a stand-in for Delores) is painting the last bit of glass, becoming no longer visible. Almost a metaphor for her passing.
i would recommend bad wolves Hear Me Now (feat. DIAMANTE) is a love song i would also recommend "remember when" the song deals with the relationship between front man Tommy Vext and his twin brother, while tommy chose a life of sobriety and pursued a career in the music industry as a singer, his brother became a drug dealer and struggled with addiction and substance abuse. and these 2 songs also Disturbed does a song with Ann Wilson called don’t tell me, Papa roach Leave a light on is mental health awareness
@the charismatic voice , the "2018" lyric change isn't the only change he did. He also changed "with their tanks and their bombs and their guns and their DRONES" to make it even more relatable to modern times.
There's several songs I would recommend checking out by bad wolves..."Remember When", "Sober", and "Killing me slowly". All three I think really do an amazing job showing the range and depth of this band.
As others have said, Remember When is a very emotional song about Tommy's history with his brother that I would highly recommend. Another song I would recommend is by Tommy after he split with Bad Wolves, called Strong For Someone Else. His voice just conveys so much emotion, so when he sings these more ballad-y songs it just... hits.
Iam so darn happy you decided to review this cover elizabeth! Such an emotional cover and the heaviness adds that much more emotion to it.this song always brings me to tears as iam headbanging.the first time I saw this video I just lost it.especially when their hands are touching thru the glass.Bad Wolves completely did justice to this cover
I remember stumbling across this song back in 2018 when it was first released. I loved it straight away. It sends you through a roller-coaster, it's light but heavy, powerful, full of emotion and it stays true to the original version. ❤
Tommy Vext has one of my favorite metal vocals. The fact that Dolores gave them her blessing just makes it even more beautiful. Definitely in my top 5 covers of all time.
and yet the man gets so much hate for being a real one and standing on his own morals.. crazy what a media presence can do! I agree his haunting voice is truly amazing as well as when he screams it still has the haunting in it which just does something else to so many of his cover tracks as well as the originals
Very powerful cover, one of the best I’ve heard. The original is incredible and it’s tragic the lyrics are still relevant to this very day. We’re still experiencing the same grief and suffering in this world today in the Middle East
Another little thing that I appreciate about the singing in the song is that they didn't try to force doing the signature "yodel" during the repeated "eh, eh, eh." That part of the original song has been memed to death over the years by, mostly, people that don't really appreciate the true meaning of the song. So the fact that their version of that small part of the vocals is true to the rest of the darker feel of the cover, really shows the care they took. I love this cover, I love this song, I love music.
Well said. I love this cover, it suits my metal head heart and captures so much emotion. So well done, I feeI Iike they paid her justice with this song and she herseIf Ioved it. RlP Dolores O'Riordan. ❤ Bravo Bad Wolves. 🤘
This song has always made me cry...right from the original release by the Cranberries. I was aware of its context then. Many people hear this song and its kind of a bop for them. I cant hear it without knowing its about children dying. Bad Wolves did a great job preserving the original meaning of the song, while adding some justified anger that we havent figure this out in the past 30 years, and layering in the painful loss of Delores...who was a rock icon in her own right.
I grew up during the troubles, though i was a child, and this was a song that was something I didn't understand until I was older. Now that I'm older and have experienced war against insurgents, I have come to fully understand the depth of the meaning of Delores's words. It is always children that lose when grow folks can no longer agree to be civil and work out their problems.
I'm actually surprised this is the first time you've seen this version. I was soooooo pissed when I found out someone covered it because in my arrogance I thought "how dare they", but Bad Wolves did this song justice.
Made them famous too! You hear anything about how the remaining Cranberries finished an album of work Dolores had worked on with them? I didn't think so. No one seems to.
@@lauraallen55 "In The End"? It actually performed quite decently. I think the reason why it's not really talked about is because none of the songs, outside of "All Over Now", really have the emotional punch that Cranberries songs are known for. However, most of the albums had 40-50 songs written for them, plus they would sometimes rework and finish songs they wrote for a previous album for their upcoming one. "In The End" didn't have a huge pool of work to pick and choose the best material from. It's a great album, though, and shows that even Delores' not-exactly-best work is still really good.
@@IAmNeomic I know it performed quite decently. I was referring to everyone being so enamored of BWs doing this song (releasing it 3 days after she died, which her band members found insensitive) and no one saying anything about Dolores' band finishing the album.
From a cover to a tribute to Dolores 🙏 This song has always given me the goosebumps, true singing from the heart, true emotion. I make a deep and respectful bow to Dolores and Bad Wolves, this is powerful 🤘🤘
This is by far the best analysis and reaction I've seen. I think this is because you're able to put into words everything I feel when I hear this song. I love all your videos, but this one really touched me. You're doing a great service to the world ❤
@@jonathanstarner3662unfortunately, Tommy Vext is not with the band anymore. Current singer is not bad but not Tommy... Tommy is doing I believe solo stuff and better his life too, his solo stuff is worth checking out and still does shows.
I could shake the thought off my head so I thought I share, the handprint on a glass gave me the feeling as when a person leaves us, they never actually leave us, they always leave an impact on our live. They are always with us like a handprint. Don't know if it was meant to be like that or no but it is beautiful to think about it like that. That song when it came out, instantly leaved an impact for a long time. Still absolutely love this cover and it still brings tears to my eyes ❤
He changed the lyrics in a few places. added the 2018, and also reference to Drones in the chorus which is not in the original, further bringing home the point of the song, that war is still ongoing and the pain is still very real. Love your take on this one Liz!
That review got me again and again remembering how her voice will be missed. I grew up with Cranberries and loved the unique sound. So glad her voice was remembered by many and will live on for a long while. Too many lost from the 90's.
Definitely! If she was ever a Halo fan, "Blow Me Away" is a must. Then you have "Angels Fall", "I Will Not Bow", "Feed the Wolf", "Ashes of Eden", "Dear Agony" (Aurora version), "So Cold", "Blood", "Break My Fall", and "Diary of Jane" as well as others.
Tommy has an amazing voice. It's one of my all time favorite metal vocals. I loved him in Divine Heresy and Westfield Massacre. It's a shame he seems to be difficult to work with from a band standpoint, because his talent deserves recognition and solidification in a band that can grow a big and consistent fan base
This is such a fantastic and moving tribute, done beautifully, heavy but full of emotion. I was so impressed when I first saw this and it still brings tears to my eyes.
I have been requesting this for awhile and am very happy you came around to finally giving it a go. I was happy to hear when this song released that a portion of the money raised from digital spins would be donated to Dolores' children. to my knowledge at least $250,000 has been donated. Bad Wolves still perform this song with their new lead singer Daniel "DL" Laskiewicz. The song still hits home when DL sings it. Find a live version on youtube and the crowd will go all in and sing with lighters/cell phone lights waving. Its extremely emotional and moving. For reasons that need not be covered here, Vext is no longer with the band and DL has taken the reins. They do not play too many songs from the first 2 Vext albums live (Disobey and N.A.T.I.O.N.) due to the personal nature of many of the songs. But DL has fronted their last 2 albums (Dear Monsters and Die About It). Hope this shines a little bit of clarity on the bands current status.
This is my favorite cover song ever! I had never heard of Bad Wolves, and still have not heard any of their original songs. I love what they did with this.
I'd really would have loved to have heard the duet with Tommy and Delores, if they were planning that. Another powerful cover that Elizabeth has reviewed was Johnny Cash's cover of NIN/Trent Reznor's Hurt.
This is an exceptional cover, the updates to the lyrics just ... still bringing home the message. And the video, knowing what happened, is still just a gut punch every time, even now.
In case of Bad Wolves, I have a few songs that are my go-to for them. "Killing Me Slowly", "Remember When", "Learn To Walk Again", "Lifeline" and "If Tomorrow Never Comes" (the last one has 2 versions - the original and feat. Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills). There's also a banger from The HU featuring the current vocalist of Bad Wolves - "Black Thunder".
Well that was a 3-Kleenex review, wow...a first. I've requested this version several times over the past year or two and I was elated to see it pop up this morning. What a treat to hear this song again but with even more appreciation thanks to Elizabeth's insights and commentary. Both the original song and this cover make me tear up for different but similar reasons.
I remember the day she passed i got an alert on my cell saying she was gone because I was subscribed to her personal channel. It hit like a ton of rocks. I've followed her career because she was so passionate about her message through her music. Thank you for sharing this with us 😊
I would love for you to analyze Nothing More. They're a powerful band with inspirational messages in their lyrics. Lead singer, Johnny Hawkins, was kicked out of his 1st grade choir class after he was told he couldn't sing 😂
Couldn’t agree more...Johnny Hawkins is AMAZING! I surely hope no other kids just gave up their dreams or got scarred by that apparent moron of a 1st grade teacher, lol.
This is the first song from Bad Wolves I ever heard. I was so impressed. I saw them live at Capones in Johnson City, TN. The lead singer is a massive dude. There was no A/C he was pouring sweat and still performed absolutely amazing. Will see them again if they come back this way.
They have a different singer because the band didn't like his conservative views which I find crazy because my beastie is liberal and I'm conservative and we just agree to disagree
Tommy has definitely gone through some tough, sad, and challenging times from almost dying from his brother, struggling with depression, and the sad story between him and Bad Wolves ( he's been a solo artist for the past couple years) and yet still makes incredible music and cover. He does an interesting take on "Take Me To Church" and "Wrecking Ball" his voice is AWESOME
Dan Vasc did a cover of the Bad Wolves version. I kept meaning to look up this version and listen to it, but just kept listening to Dan’s version…it sounds so good! When I saw this suggestion on my side bar I clicked on it so fast. Thank you, Elizabeth, for doing a review/ analysis on this one.
Please react to more Dan Vasc songs, not just Amazing Grace. You can do Zombie, or I’ll make a Man out of You, or Nessun Dorma, or Burn Butcher, Burn, or Loch Lamond…there are so many good ones to choose from.
I'm obsessed with this song and the emotions behind it. It's so sad with Delores' death and conflicts throughout the world with unnecessary deaths. This song and video was perfectly made. Thanks for reflecting on it.
I have Iistened to this version so many times. I liked the original, it's a masterfully done song. But I'm a diehard metaI head. So this rendition grabbed me way more than the original one did. Metal is a genre that can make a song so powerful and expressive. I'm glad her song has gotten a whole new Iife and because it appeals to a different crowd, gets even more exposure. RlP Dolores and well done Bad Wolves. ❤🤘
This is such a beautiful cover, I've always loved this version. You should try the trilogy of songs by Breaking Benjamin "Red Cold River", "Torn in Two" and "Tourniquet" the videos have a similar theme and more light should be shed on the broad types of loss and love.
Love some Breaking Ben. I love I Will Not Bow and Breath but I like a lot of their songs. It's a PA band which is where I Iive so we see them as often as we can. We saw them this past summer with Disturbed. I'd love to see The Vengeful One reviewed.
For myself (Australian/Irish) the song always spoke about the ‘otherness’ that people could always feel in referring to wars on the news “it’s THEIr tanks and THEIR bombs. Not only did Tommy and Delores (in the writing process) update this to the modern day! It hits the sobriety it needed! (No idea if that was set before or after she passed! In a way, this recording/video martyrs Delores for peacefires everywhere ❤️
REMEMBER WHEN NO MASTERS HEAR ME NOW (with Diamanté) Those are three songs you would really enjoy from Bad Wolves with Tommy Vext, which shows three different abilities in his voice. Their cover of Zombie was MASTERFUL, it was so powerful and emotional and really did it justice, it really moved me when it came out and I still love it now 🌹
Elizabeth, I’ve been a sub for a couple of years, but I don’t think I’ve ever commented about how much I appreciate your analyses, and not only because I learn things about vocal techniques, and your enjoyment of hearing songs and sounds that are new to you. But what I think I love the most is that I don’t always know WHY I like the songs I like…it’s like I can’t articulate even to myself what evokes my emotions that songs bring out. I think your superpower is being able to identify and explain how the music and vocals are projecting certain emotions. Thank you for giving me a deeper appreciation of the songs that I gravitate to, and a greater understanding of music. ❤
18:50 you may be right about the meaning of why they did it. The effect is known as a phaser, it splits the guitars signal in two, one is the normal tone and the other passes through a filter that makes it come in and out of phase with the first. It gives a really nice up and down sweep to the sound.
Hi Elizabeth, I know you love rock and opera fusion/collabs and share my love for bands like ELO. I think you would really enjoy the live performance of James Brown’s “It’s A Man’s World” with Pavarotti. Awesome combo, and as I’m sure you know James Brown was a titan of early rock and soul. Decent version available on YT
A new post, exciting! I have to say a great bad for you to listen to is Chevelle! Pete Loeffler is definitely an anytime voice to me from soft and clear vocals to great harsh vocals leaving me with feelings of anger and sadness (in a good way!). A great song that gives a mix of both vocal styles is, the Red. Interestingly enough at one point 3 family members all played in the band together...what a skilled family.
I definitely think you should check out masterpiece by motionless in white. The vocals are really interesting, and mixed and the song itself is really powerful
I second that. We've been following MotionIess for about a decade as they are from Scranton, Pa about 2 hours from where we Iive. We've seen them more times than I can say and go everytime they play at Montage Mt. I love Devil's Night, Masterpiece is great, I Iove Brand New Numb, so many of their songs.
I'm A 54 year old big, strong 💪 man and I CRY EVERY TIME I watch this. 😢 . I love you get the emotion and the weight of sorrow in his voice... his voice always feels like he's about to break with the weight of the sadness and desperation behind the lyrics.
This cover is so insanely well done, such an amazing tribute to Dolores... Hear me now, is one of the songs I enjoy the most from them, which might also be a door to analyze DIAMANTE's vocals!
Glad you did this one. Tears... The entire band did an amazing job with the song, and the director nailed the video. The meaning behind the song and the poignance of it is just as relavant now.
If you want to see an instrumental take on her vocals. Look at the cover by the snake charmer. Her voice is represented by the bagpipes. Very fitting and beautiful.
He said, "we love you," to her for all of us in that tribute and i thank him. There was a reason they were gonna colab. Thank you agaim for covering this.
Miley Cyrus also has a great cover of Zombie. It took me by surprise not only how good the cover is, but the level of emotion that Miley delivers in her performance. It is a live performance. I believe it was in 2020. It really is worth checking out.
Just checked it out, not a miley fan but she absolutely nailed that. 10 times better than this cover imo, stayed true to the song and had an authentic solo that gave me goosebumps, wow. Thanks for the heads up 👍
@@kvothe4637 glad you enjoyed it. I liked Miley before, but wasn’t a fan or anything, then this cover sent me on a journey of all her other covers and some of her other songs I’ve never heard before and well I am a fan now.
What a great cover and video!! Man they smashed this one!! Really moving and emotional!! Huge props!! Thanks for covering this so soon after the original
I have never made a suggestion on here before but I would humbly point you in the direction of the song “Eat your Young” by Hozier. He’s an Irish singer/songwriter and I feel like he is continuing some of the themes that Dolores and The Cranberries were highlighting with “Zombie”. In addition to that, it’s well put together and sung exquisitely. I would be truly grateful and excited to hear your thoughts on it and Hozier in general. Thank you so much. I really love your channel! 🙌🙌🙌
I loved the Cranberries version, but this version blew me away, Dolores voice added to this heavy version would have made it perfect. I was fortunate to see Bad Wolves perform this song live, and it was immense, it's such an iconic song, and Bad Wolves took it to another level. It's a shame that Tommy went somewhat off the rails, which caused his departure from Bad Wolves after their second album, such a great vocalist, but a troubled one it seems.
Well, if you can look past his politics(and I recognize that some of his new songs ARE political), Tommy's still making some very meaningful, beautiful songs on his own. Strong For Someone Else is a fantastic song about how being there for someone else helped him save his own life. Even if you dont listen to a single other one of his songs, I would recommend you listen to that one.
He has cleaned up quite a bit recently. He made amends with Bad Wolves, but said he will probably never perform with them and it really split their fan base in half. It also shows that Tommy brought so much for the band and they really don't have that same heart beat in newer music.
@@ProjectGRIDLOKTI like about as many of their songs with Daniel as I did with Tommy, so I'd have to respectfully disagree that they've lost any ground. I find Daniel's voice more versatile. Also, Tommy has one of the worst cases of Lead Singer Disease I've seen in modern bands, so I doubt they'd bring him back in, even if that's what he truly wanted.
@@Mystress1980 you can respectfully disagree, but their success post vs prior Tommy's firing says otherwise. Even their album N.A.T.I.O.N. did better than most of what they've done since D joined. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a bad vocalist. Just don't mix up versatility with delivery. Tommy's voice resonates much better with the fans and he had a very big following and fanbase just by himself. I'm not saying they fell off, but it's very clear that they are not as successful with D vs Tommy. I feel a lot of fans are split like with Killswitch Engaged where they've had 2 separate leads who had different levels of success with the same band.
This song is what really put the band on my radar personally, and I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it!Other Bad Wolves songs I really like and think you might too would be Remember When, Sober, Learn to Walk Again, and Hear Me Now
There’s an acoustic version of their song that you’d probably enjoy, too. But yes, Tommy Vext’s voice is amazing 🥰 Also, Tommy Vext covers “Heart Shaped Box”, and it is 😮💨👌🏻👌🏻 He chooses his covers well.
I was hoping so much this would land on your radar! Thank you for selecting it. Yes there are a couple subtle lyric changes making it relevant to our current time. The year change, drones…. You’d miss it if not paying attention. This is an incredible version of I can only imagine what it would have been with her singing included as originally planned
Random Original lyrics: With their tanks and their bombs - And their bombs and their guns Updated lyrics: With their tanks and their bombs - And their bombs and their drones (updated because of technology, but it fits) Original lyrics: It's the same old theme - Since nineteen-sixteen Updated lyrics: It's the same old theme in 2018
I was one of the many that suggested this cover of her iconic song and I'm sooo glad you did this one it's by far my most favorite cover and tribute to an amazing human that through her music and passion help shed light on such things she will be missed but never forgotten but sadly nothing has changed and we need to do better in this world.
And thank you very much for such a reaction to this amazing cover. It is beautiful to experience 20 minutes of truth filled with sincere feelings in this soulless world. Thank you
This guys voice made me tear up and my hair stand on end. There is so much emotion conveyed through it. The instruments surely help, but it's his voice, so amazing!
I love how she explains the technique. Ive spent a lot of time singing in the car at full blast hearing myself and through this, I understand what I'm doing with my throat and vocal chords to get certain sounds and resonances. This is a cool channel.
I thought last time to write a comment about Bad Wolves cover, but you did it. When i first time hear this song, its just made me cry. Same again. Thank you for the analyzing, for your work too. Love to see your reactions about songs. Keep it up! ❤🩹
Oh, this video. Tears, streaming down my face, every time. The way "Dolores" is desperately painting on the window, trying to get her voice heard from the other side, and then she finally at the end is satisfied that her message got across so she turns and peacefully walks away. 😭😭😭 Also, I'm a 50 year old woman, and rock/metal manages to touch my soul in a way that not much else does, so it's nice to hear a musical expert come to appreciate it the way that you expressed here. ❤
Wow! just wow! Thanks so much for this! I was just in my teens when The Cranberries released the song, and it follows me for alsmost 30 years now. When I heard of this song, and the story behind it, almost made me cry, just for the loss we had
With the opening piano and the background story given at the beginning, I can never help but feel the same feelings loss every time I listen. And they're not typical generic "someone died and that's sad" feelings. They are personal, like I lost someone dear to me, even though I didn't know Delores. And the pain and anger conveyed by Tommy's voice become my own. This is the definition of good art: it makes you feel.
This song hit me on so many levels when it released. Homage fully paid, amazing rendition with word play to the times, and the true respect and appreciation. Tommy I'm sure Delores is proud of you.
Shout out to everyone who recommended this. I haven't heard this cover before, but I'm liking it. Good call. Not as iconic as the original, but more nuanced and understated, especially in the beginning. Heavier, but still very minimalist. I want to hear this dude cover Blue Oyster Cult's "Fire of Unknown Origin", he could knock that out of the park.
This was my introduction to Bad Wolves and it absolutely blew me away. A perfectly fitting tribute to Dolores IMHO. Brilliant analysis as always. Don't always understand what you're talking about but love listening to you anyway (you clearly know your stuff!) and seeing your appreciation of the music.
I'm not going to pretend to have an extensive education in music (what I know past high school band is self taught), but I've never heard chiaroscuro used in a template of music, only physically painting or drawing. I do understand the word and how the comparative contrasts are being made, which really makes me enjoy your reaction, analysis and educative session! Thank you so much for doing the original video and this one also! Both are amazing pieces.
When it comes to covers this is one of the best done right up there with Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. Now I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that this song is what started Tommy down the road of music and if I am right this song has even more meaning for him.
I don't sing and know nothing about singing or music in general, but I really love this channel. They way she expresses feelings and her emotions to the music is really amazing to watch. She uses her obviously uses her eyes and brows like a lot of people, but then also uses her mouth in a very over-exaggerated way (prob. natural for her), and really her entire face, that makes me enjoy the music even more. I would love for the format to be you listen to the entire track once, then comment and teach.
When I first heard this cover it blew me away. I've heard it many, many times but watching it again today it hit just as hard. Amazing cover. Something else to watch from them is "Remember When"....another amazing song that will stir your emotions.
Much respect. I’ll definitely check it out.
Is your newer work similar to Disobey or Nation? I feel like Bad Wolves lost out on their personality all over standing your ground on an opinion that should never have been argued against.
@@BRDNYT yes check out Grand theft audio on all streaming platforms
@tommyvextofficial where can we find your new stuff? I miss your voice!
This basically went from a cover to a tribute
I highly recommend Remember When by Bad Wolves..It's one of my favorites and a song written when Tommy was attacked and nearly killed by his twin brother who wanted money for drugs. It's heartbreaking and very emotionally delivered
As well as giving great insight into the band and the lead singer. SO much more appreciation for them after listening to Remember When.
Yes, Remember When is such an amazing song. Definitely needs to make an appearance on the channel
He actually did die but they were able to bring him back.
His cover of wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus is insane
Yes! A must for reaction
Multi Generational.
@@JeshuaSquirrelWhy? There’s evil humans. Always will be.
I was gonna comment something like this as well but you said it better than I could have
Wow. I’m a 46 year old metal worker and have tears in my eyes and goose bumps on my skin. WOW
I was thinking to myself she’s looking down from the heavens smiling saying Good Job Guys. Great Job. Thank you.
Eh.
They released this 4 hours after she died, according to sources (the Cranberries).
@@ikmor ? Dolores died on Jan 15, this song was released on Jan 18? There were articles saying it was four DAYS, not hours, that quoted the cranberries. And this video came out a month after that.
@@ahumanname8414
Bah! You are absolutely right! Age is getting to me. 🤦
Thanks!
I'm sure if she had known Tommy has a history of beating women she wouldn't have wanted them to cover this song
100% Agree! It will straight punch you in the feels, but such a great cover!
@MarisaAndChew there where 2 boys killed from a bomb in Warrington England by the IRA
Yes, please do Five Finger Death Punch's cover of Gone Away by The Offspring!!!
Always.
EXACTLY!
Same here, back to back viewing of both vids. You hit the nail on the head with your description.
@@IAmNeomic the more you know 🌈
That's really cool. Thanks for the knowledge friend 😊
I just watched the Cranberries reaction last night. Was surprised to see the Bad Wolves version.
i would recommend bad wolves Hear Me Now (feat. DIAMANTE) is a love song i would also recommend "remember when" the song deals with the relationship between front man Tommy Vext and his twin brother, while tommy chose a life of sobriety and pursued a career in the music industry as a singer, his brother became a drug dealer and struggled with addiction and substance abuse.
and these 2 songs also
Disturbed does a song with Ann Wilson called don’t tell me,
Papa roach Leave a light on is mental health awareness
❤❤❤❤❤
the live version of leave a light on took me by surprise...cant stop listening. Jacoby crushes the vocals
His duet with Diamante- Can You Hear Me Now. Absolutely beautiful
Remember when is good. The other 2 are glorified nickelback songs. Look within the album. There are great gems that never saw light of day.
The other reason why the darker tone fits so well is....that we haven't learned a thing. It's the same old thing in 2018, 2020, 2023.
I agree with this, right up there with David Draiman's (Disturbed's) cover of The Sound of Silence from Simon and Garfunkel.
I was obsessed with this when it was released. As a diehard metal fan, I approve, Bravo Bad Wolves 🤘❤️RlP Dolores O'Riordan.
and yet the man gets so much hate for being a real one and standing on his own morals.. crazy what a media presence can do!
Tommy's voice is so powerful but smooth at the same time. it can be aggressive and dirty but also smooth and calm
I get full body chills every time he starts singing. I love this song.
The term for that "yodel" is keening.
You're doing a great service to the world ❤
Heard this song many times, never seen the video till now. Extra powerful, also brought to tears. The guy can sing.
Or, you should see a live performance. He gets the whole crowd into it.
@@JeshuaSquirrel I will be looking into any live performances he has coming up.
@@jonathanstarner3662unfortunately, Tommy Vext is not with the band anymore. Current singer is not bad but not Tommy... Tommy is doing I believe solo stuff and better his life too, his solo stuff is worth checking out and still does shows.
When Elizabeth did the original version, I was one of the many, many people who said to do this song, and I comments to have the tissues on-hand.
@@jonathanstarner3662just so you know, Tommy isn't part of Bad Wolves anymore, so the odds of hearing this live are slim.
You need to react to Breaking Benjamin. Almost every single of their songs are very good to listen to and Ben has a great and unique voice.
Yes yes yes!
Was just listening to BB while traveling over this past weekend - DEFINITELY need to get them on the channel. Solid recommendation for sure!
Actually I have searched on later videos, and it's incredible how she hasn't stumble upon bands like BB, Trivium, TDG...
OMG, yes! Such an underrated band!
It's awesome when the instruments speak where the words can't convey the emotion... both in balance is awesome❤
This is such a fantastic and moving tribute, done beautifully, heavy but full of emotion. I was so impressed when I first saw this and it still brings tears to my eyes.
This is definitely a great cover! His voice is soft and yet powerful!👍
You should check them out, they are a true hidden gem
I'd really would have loved to have heard the duet with Tommy and Delores, if they were planning that. Another powerful cover that Elizabeth has reviewed was Johnny Cash's cover of NIN/Trent Reznor's Hurt.
This is an exceptional cover, the updates to the lyrics just ... still bringing home the message. And the video, knowing what happened, is still just a gut punch every time, even now.
Yeah, I can't wait you to react on this. Bad Wolves donated all the proceeds from this song to Dolores's family. It was a nice thing to from them.
Especially the Live version for Ballast (This is the Time) they did for Sirius XM. That was Amazing!!
Couldn’t agree more...Johnny Hawkins is AMAZING! I surely hope no other kids just gave up their dreams or got scarred by that apparent moron of a 1st grade teacher, lol.
This would be absolutely amazing. So many fantastic songs
Yes! Nothing More is underrated and Johny Hawkins definitely has range
Fade in/Fade out. I want to see her cry.
Wasn’t he kicked out for being pro trump? I’m pretty sure he didn’t want the band to be canceled by the snowflakes so he left the band.
Yay! Thank you for doing this version! I love Tommy Vext’s voice and this video is so emotional!
This is such a beautiful cover, I've always loved this version. You should try the trilogy of songs by Breaking Benjamin "Red Cold River", "Torn in Two" and "Tourniquet" the videos have a similar theme and more light should be shed on the broad types of loss and love.
Just any Breaking Benjamin, honestly. Ben Burnley has such an influential voice
I agree with "Tourniquet"...
This trilogy of songs is outstanding. Would love to see Elizabeth do a breakdown of BB.
REMEMBER WHEN
NO MASTERS
HEAR ME NOW (with Diamanté)
Those are three songs you would really enjoy from Bad Wolves with Tommy Vext, which shows three different abilities in his voice.
I saw them perform this live - AMAZING!
This mans voice is beautiful. Him live is the same as well. His voice makes me cry with excitement
Interestingly enough at one point 3 family members all played in the band together...what a skilled family.
edit: or the clincher!!
Or shameful metaphors
i’m so excited that you reviewed this song. it’s incredible
I'm excited for this! One of the best covers ever.
That guitar solo shoots shivers directly down my spine.
The meaning behind the song and the poignance of it is just as relavant now.
you gotta do a deep dive into Tommy Vext. I promise you, you wont be disappointed at all!!!
Yessss
If you want to see an instrumental take on her vocals. Look at the cover by the snake charmer. Her voice is represented by the bagpipes. Very fitting and beautiful.
I am SO EXCITED to break this down with you ❤- I can’t wait
After that little break when the first chorus kicks in I always get like instant chills!!
But yes, Tommy Vext’s voice is amazing 🥰
Also, Tommy Vext covers “Heart Shaped Box”, and it is 😮💨👌🏻👌🏻
He chooses his covers well.
Please do a review of Breaking Benjamin "Dear Agony" Aurora version. Heart breaking, raw, vocal focus.
Definitely something from Breaking Benjamin!
Oh F***...... Such a great song, but holy sh** It makes me cry instantly!
The level of emotion he puts in is insane...

This cover is honestly not only one of the best covers of all time, but probably one of the best songs of all-time period.
Another absolutely phenomenal cover was Disturbed doing the sound of silence. I think I remember you doing that but if you haven't absolutely have to!
When it comes to covers this is one of the best done right up there with Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. Now I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that this song is what started Tommy down the road of music and if I am right this song has even more meaning for him.
Thank you so much for bringing much needed focus to this song. Tommy did an amazing job of creating a tribute vs. a cover song.
I would love for the format to be you listen to the entire track once, then comment and teach.
thank you for sharing and spreading such an unique interpretation of this song and your emotions as well.
When I first heard this cover it blew me away. I've heard it many, many times but watching it again today it hit just as hard. Amazing cover. Something else to watch from them is "Remember When"....another amazing song that will stir your emotions.
