The part with two times "Bombs" in a row has such a deep meaning. She sings it twice for the two boys, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, who got killed by a bombing attack.
Some context: The Irish had an insurgency against British rule which started in 1916-1918 (and lasted into the 1990s), called "The troubles" around Catholic-Protestant lines (among others) In 1993, some children were killed by the IRA by a bomb hidden in a trash bin. They were killed getting a card for the mother on Mother's Day. Delores heard the explosion and immediately wrote the song in protest. She uses traditional Irish "Keening" in her song which is used for expressing grief. It really is magical, and the symbolism is spot on.
She didn't hear the explosion herself, but she heard about this incident during their UK tour
The reason they wrote this song is heartbreaking. Look it up. Beyond words.
"Her voice is special". Yes; she was special. RIP
The late Dolores O'Riordan was an incredible songwriter, and you can't go wrong listening to the Cranberries! I'll jump on the bandwagon for tracks like "Linger", "Salvation", "Just My Imagination", and "Animal Instinct", among others.
Great reaction RTR's, thank you. Peace and love from a troubled Ireland
This song is in protest of the bombing in Warrington England which killed 2 young boys in 1993 😢
Her voice, that keening… it actually reaches out caressing you before reaching in and snatching your heart and squeezing it, twisting it, forcing every nerve in your body to come alive…. It is so beautiful and distinctive… and when she lets her voice open completely…. It is chilling in a beautiful way. I played this CD to death and had to replace it twice.
The Troubles that occurred between the late 60’s and late 90’s between the Catholic Irish and the English Protestants had their roots in 1916.
Dolores wrote this in 1994 after the deaths in 1993 of Timothy Parry 12 and Jonathan Ball 3 from an IRA bomb that detonated in a trash can in Warrington England
Dolores is the voice of my youth. Living in Chicago in the 90s, evening walks w/ this on my discman lol.
See: Northern Ireland The Troubles to understand the historical context.
The troubles were a religious ethnic conflict that lasted from the late 1960 till 1998.
It was a very bad time.
Images from the period are mindblowing.
Please you owe it to yourself to read about The Troubles in Ireland and the story about this song
I don't come around often but I hadda come for Dolores O'Riordan.
Cheers!
To all reading this comment, an homage tribute to Dolores O'Riordan, Bad Wolves - Zombie
They released it after her death and she was suppose to reprise her vocals for the song, but Bad Wolves released it anyways in tribute and donated all money raised to her children. Just a add on if you want to review :)
What did you say……? Fellopian tubes for vocal cords….. WOW It takes singing from the diaphragm to a whole different level.
😂😂😂
Definitely do some more of The Cranberries, Dreams, Linger, Ode To My Family, When You're Gone, Animal Instinct, Promises, Just My Imagination, Salvation, Ridiculous Thoughts, You And Me, Analyse, Stars, Free To Decide, Time Is Ticking Out, Never Grow Old, Tomorrow
Sorry for so many, just thought I would recommend, so many songs about so many different things, great reaction
Great reaction, thank you. It is a protest song, the war between Ireland and the UK, the struggle to reunite Northern Ireland with the republic of Ireland from the hands of the British empire, not from the good English people themselves. Many innocent souls were lost, on both sides. After hearing about 2 more innocent boys getting killed by a bomb, Dolores RIP wrote this song in protest against all the violence and begged for a truce and peace. Please pray for the people in Gaza, Palestine etc. tonight. Peace
A melhor reação que já vi parabéns ❤
The band was offered a lot of money NOT to release the song. They chose to release it anyway.
If anyone is looking for a great book about The Troubles, check out " Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland" by Patrick Radden Keefe. Really well written and does a really good of picking a specific, personal story and zooming in and out between that and the bigger political context.
In my opinion, this song can easily be transferred to today (Ukraine war, war in the Middle East and elsewhere). The same theme
My great-great- (maybe another great or two) grandfather, James Robb the second (They didn’t say junior then.) was born on the ship Agnus crossing the Atlantic to America from Ireland just before the revolution war. He and his family were exiled instead of prison for insurance fraud by his father James Robb who had a fine fabric trading business. And a friend in trouble. Patrick had an old ship Hazard that wasn’t worth much. The two were loading the Hazard with crates of sand insured as fabric intending go to sea and sink the ship. (With someone conveniently alongside to rescue the crew.) But they got caught. Fortunately James had married Lady Margaret Barr, whose father Lord Barr was quite wealthy and a member of parliament. So they got away. Poor Patrick went to prison.😢
Some sources believe the 1972 tragedy of Bloody Sunday in Derry is considered the catalyst that triggered the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Although there had been previous instances of violence, this was different. It involved the killing of civilians by soldiers in full view of the media, which fueled hostilities on the nationalist side. As a result, more people joined Nationalist paramilitary organizations. At the time, the Original IRA and Sinn Fein were moving towards Marxism. This paved the way for a surge in membership to the Provisional IRA among disaffected and angry young people.
Never an excuse, never an eye for an eye. Dont want the world to be blind. Just a futile attempt to understand. Children should never be in the cross fire. No one should have to worry about just going to the shop. I don't think this song will ever lose it's power over me. It is powerful
great choice for reactions :)
Thanks! 😊
I've seen them twice and she sound's exactly like that unreal I've their autograph aswell they played in Dublin in the 90's I was front row at a small venue in Dublin live the channel ❤
Ireland was full of slavery of their own people and war. I'm Irish, so I grew up knowing this from my family. Look up the history of Ireland.
I thought the Irish were slaves of the British for years. Im Irish too. Does being Irish necessarily mean you are right?
@@jl2937 actually no it doesn't, but it's history. Why be rude if you don't know that?
Please do some more Cranberries, I’m here for it .
If you are the breaker of barz then you should look into these lyrics also .
This is more alternative than rock
my grandpa on moms side was in the IRA. He was a bad MF and he HATED the british. funny thing is my dad is english. Thanksgivings were fun.
Its not a modern pop song per see it actually has meaning.
Based on a true story of a child being blown up by a bomb in Ireland…real footage in the video…sad story…we lost Deloris way too soon! ❤😢
Free 🇵🇸🍉
Ive heard many irish people talking about keening which is a mournful singing usually at funerals
I have a question: Have you never had European history??? How can that be that you have never heard of IRA?? I grew up in Germany and we learned this in history class
I'm English, I had a few around me wounded/disfigured and killed and I was nearly blown up twice....crazy and tough times on our own soil. ✌️ to all in nth ireland 🇬🇧
Super like
Super!
3 STRANGE DAYS
WITH INTRO
SCHOOL OF FISH
Same old team since 1916. Refers to the Republican movement in Ireland
It's Heaven's holy child is slowly taken, not head hangs.
Songs about revenge and how stupid we all are to garnish it. We are all zombies.
It's not your fault that you're American, but this song is way above your head. You'd have to Google it to understand it!
Some imagines are real.
Not sure you noticed that the singer was also playing lead guitar
dang no i didnt lol
🔥🔥🇬🇧
Not sure, if "it's fire"... Scorched earth, I'd say, with too many people to mourn.
Yah, Irish. Na Trioblóidí. 1916 means the Easter Rising. Its hard to understand. Its these thing...all of the island hate each other. That was never a UK.
Thanks FOr watching. Please Like and Subscribe If you haven't already. Be a Original part of the Push to 100K .
If you like meaningful lyrics you should try rap and country artist Jelly Roll. His newest album is Whitsett Chapel: "Unlive" ft. Yelawolf, or "The Lost". Older stuff is good too, like "GLitter", "Can't go home", and "Same Asshole".
Cool reaction but let the song play a bit so we can get into it and so can you.
One day Ireland will be untied and free
🇮🇪
That in yer head/zombie part was sampled in a rap song a while back too
Such a powerful song! ♥
She is dead now. RIP, a graet singer
WHAt... really?
@@RedTopReactions yep really.....Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan (Ballybricken, September 6, 1971 - London, January 15, 2018)
You should also check out the cover of this song by Bad Wolves. Dolores O'Riordan(the singer from The Cranberries) was due to sing on this cover, however she died the day before the recording was to happen.
Eminem- in your head song uses the hook from these song. even more powerful once you learn the meaning of the song.
Gotta hear Bad Wolves cover that she was going to sing with them and she died that morning! Its fantastic
RIP Sinead O'Conner
wrong vid i think lol this is not sinead O'çonner
She killed herself
Not really. She passed out after consuming a mix of Rx drugs and alcohol and happened to be in a bathtub. So she drowned. No suicide note, ruled accidental death. Will never really know.
@@DaShap drugs is killing yourself so yes she did kill herself
Now you need to do Bad Wolves cover of this song
She was sunk in a jakuzzi, in a London hotel room being complite drunk (
R.I.P Dolores
In my interpretation, she says, ".. And their bombs" twice, because the war she is singing about in Northern Ireland ( imagine a tiny little area) there was dropped over 10,000 bombs.
That's too many.
And she is asking the soldiers / zombies what in the world is in their head that is making them do this. They're not thinking, they're just being like zombies-totally brain dead.
My friend/ the irish were not white for some time
man you pause too much
tipical american pause every 5 seconds or so
Do us a favor and don't try to sing along with her. It makes my ears bleed.
okay ill try harder next time
Do what you want-it's your channel after all!@@RedTopReactions
