Loving the fact that we all have access to these videos. Such a great resource for athletes and coaches.

Is the rumour true that the nz mens 8 couldn't high balance before the Tokyo Olympics?

Thanks for the videos! What was the thought process when getting in and on with grip and accerlaration at the front turn?

Hi Tony! Thanks for sharing. Why do you get your crews to row with ‘slow (but continuous) arms away’ with almost a pause in the body as opposed to fast arms away or a pause at the finish? Thanks.

Good question. Theres no real answer except that rowing this way gives the crew a chance to find a point in the stroke where they can be really relaxed, almost taking a rest if you like. I don't believe in stopping the handle. We dont do it on ergos ,we don't do it at rate and the whole rowing movement is one of flow. Flow with the crew, flow with the movement of the boat, flow with the water. Ive never understood the attraction of stopping completely. Bottom line though is that it works! Of course there is no right and wrong in rowing. If it makes the crew go fast then its good rowing!

George, Depends on which "steady state" but somewhere between 1:34 and 1:37 flat water

Its Heart rate dependant. We used to do the odd piece at 1:30 rate 22 but as you know you are pulling like a lunatic. Good fun but not a lot of physiological use to you.
